| 1 | Lignin characteristics in soil profiles in different plant communities in a subtropical mixed forest显示文摘Aims Lignin is generally considered as an important indicator of soil organic carbon(SOC)storage and dynamics.to evaluate the effects of plant communities and soil depth on soil lignin is critical to better understand forest carbon cycling.Methods We compared lignin content and chemical signature in three soil depths of four major plant communities in a subtropical forest,which located in the north part of Wuling Mountains,China.Lignin was measured using CuO oxidation method.Important Findings Both lignin content and its biochemical signature in plant litter varied among communities.However,these differences were mostly no longer exist in the upper soil layers.Lignin chemistry in soils inherited some of the biochemical signature of lignin in litter,but in a diminished magnitude.these results suggest that different plant communities had similar decomposition process with vary-ing rates,caused diminished differences in lignin content and its biochemical signature.Lignin content decreased with soil depth,but the biochemical signature of lignin was not significantly dif-ferent among soil layers for all communities,which suggests that vertical movement of lignin within the soil profile is very likely a key process causing this similar biochemical signature.these results emphasized the important roles of lignin inputs and soil eluviation in shaping lignin characteristics and distribution in forest soils,which pinpoint the urgent need to consider hydrological processes in studying forest soil carbon cycling. | Xinggang Wang Qiuxiang Tian Qianxi Li Chang Liao Mei He Feng Liu | 2018 | Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,4: | 2 |
| 2 | Starch supplementation improves the reproductive performance of sows in different glucose tolerance status显示文摘This study was to evaluate the effects of glucose tolerance status,maternal starch supplementation and soybean substitution in diets on the performance of dams and their offspring.Eighty-eight pregnant sows(Landrace x Large White)were selected from an initial total of 120 sows,based on blood glucose test values,and assigned to 4 experimental treatments in a 2×2 factorial design.The factors were glucose tolerance status(glucose intolerant[GIT]vs.normal glucose tolerant[NGT])or dietary treatments(corn starch diet[CS]vs.soybean substitution diet[SSI]).A higher area under the curve(AUC)for post-meal glucose was observed(P<0.05)in the GIT group than in the NGT group on d 109 of gestation.The CS group had a lower value of homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance than the SS group(P<0.05)on d 109 of gestation.Corn starch supplementation for sows decreased the stillbirth rate(P<0.05),regardless of the sows’glucose tolerance status.The villus height of the jejunum and the villus height to crypt depth ratio of the ileum were greater in normal birth weight piglets from the CS group than from the SS group(P<0.01),and so was the activity of sucrase in the jejunum and ileum(P<0.01).Compared with the SS group,the CS group showed a reduction in pre-weaning mortality rate,an increase in the number of high-birth-weight piglets,and a decrease in the number of low-birth-weight piglets(P<0.05)under GIT status.In conclusion,sows fed CS decreased stillbirth rate and improved insulin resistance,as well as improving the intestinal morphology and digestive enzyme activities of their progeny,regardless of glucose tolerance status.Additionally,the CS group improved birth weight distribution and decreased pre-weaning mortality rate of piglets under GIT status. | Yunyu Yang Ming Deng Jianzhao Chen Xichen Zhao Kaili Xiao Wenliang He Xinggang Qiu Yanzhen Xu Yulong Yin Chengquan Tan | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 2 |

| 8 | In vitro model of the glial scar显示文摘The trauma of central nervous system(CNS)can lead to glial scar,and it can limit the regeneration of neurons at the injured area,which is considered to be a major factor affecting the functional recovery of patients with CNS injury.At present,the study of the glial scar model in vitro is still limited to two-dimensional culture,and the state of the scar in vivo cannot be well mimicked.Therefore,we use a collagen gel and astrocytes to construct a three-dimensional(3D)model in vitro to mimic natural glial scar tissue.The effects of concentration changes of astrocytes on cell morphology,proliferation,and tissue performance were investigated.After 8 days of culture in vitro,the results showed that the tissue model contracted,with a measured shrinkage rate of 4.5%,and the compressive elastic modulus increased to nearly 4 times.Moreover,the astrocytes of the 3D tissue model have the ability of proliferation,hyperplasia,and formation of scar clusters.It indicates that the model we constructed has the characteristics of glial scar tissue to some extent and can provide an in vitro model for the research of glial scar and brain diseases. | Ao Fang Zhiyan Hao Ling Wang Dichen Li Jiankang He Lin Gao Xinggang Mao Rubén Paz | 2019 | International Journal of Bioprinting2019,5,2: | 0 |
