1Terahertz spoof surface-plasmon-polariton subwavelength waveguide显示文摘Surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs) with the features of subwavelength confinement and strong enhancements have sparked enormous interest. However, in the terahertz regime, due to the perfect conductivities of most metals, it is hard to realize the strong confinement of SPPs, even though the propagation loss could be sufficiently low. One main approach to circumvent this problem is to exploit spoof SPPs, which are expected to exhibit useful subwavelength confinement and relative low propagation loss at terahertz frequencies. Here we report the design,fabrication, and characterization of terahertz spoof SPP waveguides based on corrugated metal surfaces. The various waveguide components, including a straight waveguide, an S-bend waveguide, a Y-splitter, and a directional coupler, were experimentally demonstrated using scanning near-field terahertz microscopy. 5Progress in electrolytes for rechargeable Li-based batteries and beyond显示文摘Owing to almost unmatched volumetric energy density, Li-based batteries have dominated the portable electronic industry for the past 20 years. Not only will that continue, but they are also now powering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and zero-emission vehicles. There is impressive progress in the exploration of electrode materials for lithium-based batteries because the electrodes(mainly the cathode) are the limiting factors in terms of overall capacity inside a battery. However, more and more interests have been focused on the electrolytes, which determines the current(power) density, the time stability, the reliability of a battery and the formation of solid electrolyte interface. This review will introduce five types of electrolytes for room temperature Li-based batteries including 1) non-aqueous electrolytes, 2) aqueous solutions, 3)ionic liquids, 4) polymer electrolytes, and 5) hybrid electrolytes. 6Confirming nonthermal plasmonic effects enhance CO2 methanation on Rh/TiO2 catalysts显示文摘In some cases, illumination of traditional thermal catalysts and tailored plasmonic photocatalysts may synergistically combine thermal and nonthermal mechanisms to enhance reaction rates and improve product selectivity at reduced temperatures. To understand how these attributes are achieved in plasmon-driven catalysis, these intertwined thermal and nonthermal effects must be untangled. Here, we show how a novel indirect illumination technique, in conjunction with precisely monitored thermal profiles of the catalyst, can confirm and clarify the role of nonthermal effects in plasmon-enhanced carbon dioxide methanation on a Rh/TiO2 photocatalyst. We find that the extracted nonthermal methane production rate has a linear dependence on the top surface temperature, distinctly different from an exponential dependence for thermal catalysis. We also find that the apparent quantum efficiency from the nonthermal contribution has no dependence on light intensity but maintains a linear dependence on top surface temperatures between 200 and 350℃. The clear exposition of nonthermal effects in the Rh/TiO2 plasmonic photocatalyst illustrates how this methodology may be applied for the quantitative evaluation of thermal and nonthermal light effects in other plasmon-enhanced catalytic reactions.Xueqian Li Henry O. 9Polarization-independent all-silicon dielectric metasurfaces in the terahertz regime显示文摘Dielectric metasurfaces have achieved great success in realizing high-efficiency wavefront control in the optical and infrared ranges. Here, we experimentally demonstrate several efficient, polarization-independent, all-silicon dielectric metasurfaces in the terahertz regime. The metasurfaces are composed of cylindrical silicon pillars on a silicon substrate, which can be easily fabricated using etching technology for semiconductors. By locally tailoring the diameter of the pillars, full control over abrupt phase changes can be achieved. To show the controlling ability of the metasurfaces, an anomalous deflector, three Bessel beam generators, and three vortex beam generators are fabricated and characterized. We also show that the proposed metasurfaces can be easily combined to form composite devices with extended functionalities. 10First results on ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment显示文摘We report the first results on ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from stage one of the China dark-matter experiment(CDEX).A p-type point-contact high-purity germanium detector with a mass of 994 g has been installed to detect neutrinoless double beta decay events, as well as to directly detect dark matter particles. An exposure of 304 kg d has been analyzed over a wide spectral band from 500 keV to 3 MeV. The average event rate obtained was about 0.012 counts per keV per kg per day over the 2.039 MeV energy range. The half-life of ^(76)Ge neutrinoless double beta decay derived based on this result is T^(0ν)1/2>6.4×10^(22) yr(90% C.L.). 11Simulated Influence of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation on Summer Eurasian Nonuniform Warming since the Mid-1990s显示文摘Based on ensemble experiments with three atmospheric general circulation models(AGCMs), this study investigates the role of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO) in shaping the summer nonuniform warming over the Eurasian continent since the mid-1990 s. The results validate that the positive-phase AMO can indeed cause nonuniform warming,with predominant amplified warming over Europe–West Asia and Northeast Asia, but with much weaker warming over Central Asia. The underlying mechanism is then diagnosed from the perspective that the boundary forcing modulates the intrinsic atmospheric variability. The results highlight the role of the Silk Road Pattern(SRP), an intrinsic teleconnection pattern across the subtropical Eurasian continent propagating along the Asian jet. The SRP can not only be identified from the AGCM control experiments with the climatological sea surface temperature(SST), but can also be simulated by the AMO-related SST anomaly(SSTA) forcing. Furthermore, diagnostic linear baroclinic model experiments are conducted, and the results suggest that the SRP can be triggered by the AMO-related tropical diabatic heating. The AMO-triggered SRP-like responses feature anticyclonic circulations over Europe–West Asia and Northeast Asia, but cyclonic circulation over Central Asia. These responses cause increased warm advection towards Europe–West Asia and Northeast Asia, reduced precipitation and cloud cover, and then increased downward shortwave radiation. This increased warm advection and increased downward shortwave radiation together cause amplified warming in Europe–West Asia and Northeast Asia. 13Molecular mechanism of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease induced and aggravated by chronic stress through HSL/ATGL-FFA which promotes fat mobilization显示文摘Objective:To study the effects of social stress(CS)and social stress combined with high-fat diet on fat mobilization as a candidate mechanism for the induction or aggravation of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods:Thirty-two male Wistar rats(250±10 g)were randomly allocated to a blank control group(BC),a high-fat diet group(HFD),a CS group,and a combined CS and high-fat diet group(CS t HFD).Rats were sacrificed and tissues were collected after 8 weeks.Liver and body mass were measured and used to calculate the liver index.Serum aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),and free fatty acids(FFAs)were measured.Liver sections were examined microscopically after oil red O and hematoxylin and eosin staining.The relative mRNA expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase(ACCase),hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A(HMG-CoA)reductase in liver,and hormone-sensitive lipase(HSL),and adipose triglyceride lipase(ATGL)in subcutaneous adipose tissue,were measured by real-time PCR.The liver concentrations of triglyceride,reactive oxygen species,and ACCase were measured by ELISA and HSL activity was determined using turbidimetry.Results:NAFLD developed in the CS,HFD,and CS t HFD groups,with the most severe NAFLD being in the CS t HFD group.Serum AST,ALT,and FFA,liver index,and hepatic triglyceride,FFA,and tumor necrosis factor-a were significantly higher in both the CS and CS t HFD groups.However,food intake and ACCase mRNA expression were lower.The mRNA expression of HSL and ATGL in adipose tissue was much higher,and HSL activity was higher in the CS group than in the BC group,and in the CS t HFD group than in the HFD group.Conclusion:We have successfully established two models of stress-induced NAFLD,suggesting stress can induce and aggravate NAFLD by promoting fat mobilization through upregulation of HSL and ATGL.Jie Mu Xueqian Wang Qingguo Wang Fafeng Cheng Wenxiang Zhu Changxiang Li Chongyang Ma Changming Zhai Yajun Lian Xin Du 2019Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2019,6,4:2
14Removal of elemental mercury by photocatalytic oxidation over La_(2)O_(3)/Bi_(2)O_(3)composite显示文摘La_(2)O_(3)/Bi_(2)O_(3)photocatalysts were prepared by impregnation of Bi_(2)O_(3)with an aqueous solution of lanthanum precursor followed by calcination at different temperatures.The composite materials were used for the first time for the photocatalytic removal of Hg~0 from a simulated flue gas under UV light irradiation.The results showed that the sample containing 6 wt.%La_(2)O_(3)and calcined at 500°C has the highest dispersion of the active sites,which was promoted by the strong interaction with the support(i.e.,the formation of Bi-O-La species).Since they are fully accessible on the surface,the material also exhibits excellent optical properties while the heterojunction formed in La_(2)O_(3)/Bi_(2)O_(3)promotes the separation and migration of photoelectron-hole pairs and thus Hg~0 oxidation efficiency is enhanced.The effects of the various factors(e.g.,the reaction temperature and composition of the simulated flue gas(i.e.,O_(2),NO,H_(2)O,and SO_(2)))on the efficiency of the Hg~0 photocatalytic oxidation were investigated.The results demonstrated that O_(2)and SO_(2)enhanced the efficiency of the reaction while the reaction temperature,NO,and H_(2)O had an inhibitory effect.Renjun Li Yanan Zhou Xueqian Wang Langlang Wang Ping Ning Lei Tao Jun Cai 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,4:2

16Broadband terahertz rotator with an all-dielectric metasurface显示文摘Polarization manipulation is essential in developing cutting-edge photonic devices ranging from optical communication displays to solar energy harvesting. Most previous works for efficient polarization control cannot avoid utilizing metallic components that inevitably suffer from large ohmic loss and thus low operational efficiency.Replacing metallic components with Mie resonance-based dielectric resonators will largely suppress the ohmic loss toward high-efficiency metamaterial devices. Here, we propose an efficient approach for broadband, highquality polarization rotation operating in transmission mode with all-dielectric metamaterials in the terahertz regime. By separating the orthogonal polarization components in space, we obtain rotated output waves with a conversion efficiency of 67.5%.
