Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear. Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks. Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease, while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes. | MA Yan ZHU Dong Shan CHEN Ren Bo SHI Nan Nan LIU Si Hong FAN Yi Pin WU Gui Hui YANG Pu Ye BAI Jiang Feng CHEN Hong CHEN Li Ying FENG Qiao GUO Tuan Mao HOU Yong HU Gui Fen HU Xiao Mei HU Yun Hong HUANG Jin HUANG Qiu Hua HUANG Shao Zhen JI Liang JIN Hai Hao LEI Xiao LI Chun Yan LI Min Qing LI Qun Tang LI Xian Yong LIU Hong De LIU Jin Ping LIU Zhang MA Yu Ting MAO Ya MO Liu Fen NA Hui WANG Jing Wei SONG Fang Li SUN Sheng WANG Dong Ting WANG Ming Xuan WANG Xiao Yan WANG Yin Zhen WANG Yu Dong WU Wei WU Lan Ping XIAO Yan Hua XIE Hai Jun XU Hong Ming XU Shou Fang XUE Rui Xia YANG Chun YANG Kai Jun YUAN Sheng Li ZHANG Gong Qi ZHANG Jin Bo ZHANG Lin Song ZHAO Shu Sen ZHAO Wan Ying ZHENG Kai ZHOU Ying Chun ZHU Jun Teng ZHU Tian Qing ZHANG Hua Min WANG Yan Ping WANG Yong Yan 无 | 2020 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12: | 8
Effects of nitrogen dioxide and its acid mist on reactive oxygen species production and antioxidant enzyme activity in Arabidopsis plants显示文摘Nitrogen dioxide(NO2) is one of the most common and harmful air pollutants. To analyze the response of plants to NO2 stress, we investigated the morphological change, reactive oxygen species(ROS) production and antioxidant enzyme activity in Arabidopsis thaliana(Col-0) exposed to 1.7, 4, 8.5, and 18.8 mg/m3NO2. The results indicate that NO2 exposure affected plant growth and chlorophyll(Chl) content, and increased oxygen free radical(O2-)production rate in Arabidopsis shoots. Furthermore, NO2 elevated the levels of lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation, accompanied by the induction of antioxidant enzyme activities and change of ascorbate(As A) and glutathione(GSH) contents. Following this, we mimicked nitric acid mist under experimental conditions, and confirmed the antioxidant mechanism of the plant to the stress. Our results imply that NO2 and its acid mist caused pollution risk to plant systems. During the process, increased ROS acted as a signal to induce a defense response, and antioxidant status played an important role in plant protection against NO2/nitric acid mist-caused oxidative damage. | Xiaofang Liu Fen Hou Guangke Li Nan Sang | 2015 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2015,27,8: | 7
Amyloid β-protein differentially affects NMDA receptor-and GABA_A receptor-mediated currents in rat hippocampal CA1 neurons显示文摘Although the aggregated amyloid b-protein (Ab) in senile plaques is one of the key neuropathological features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), soluble forms of Ab also interfere with synaptic plasticity at the early stage of AD. The suppressive action of acute application of Ab on hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) has been reported widely, whereas the mechanism underlying the effects of Ab is still mostly unknown. The present study, using the whole-cell patch clamp technique, investigated the effects of Ab fragments (Ab25–35 and Ab31–35) on the LTP induction-related postsynaptic ligand-gated channel currents in isolated hippocampal CA1 neurons. The results showed a rapid but opposite action of both peptides on excitatory and inhibitory receptor currents. Glutamate application-induced currents weresuppressed by Ab25–35in a dose-dependent manner,andfurtherN-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)receptor-mediated currents were selectively inhibited. In contrast, pretreatment with Ab fragments potentiated c-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-induced whole-cell currents. As a control, Ab35–31, the reversed sequence of Ab31–35, showed no effect on the currents induced by glutamate, NMDA or GABA. These results may partly explain the impaired effects of Ab on hippocampal LTP, and suggest that the functional down-regulation of NMDA receptors and up-regulation of GABAA receptors may play an important role in remodeling the hippocampal synaptic plasticity in early AD. | Junfang Zhang Lei Hou Xiuping Gao Fen Guo Wei Jing Jinshun Qi Jiantian Qia | 2009 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,8: | 3
Ginger-indirect moxibustion plus acupuncture versus acupuncture alone for chronic fatigue syndrome:a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the efficacy and safety of gingerindirect moxibustion for chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS).METHODS:In this central randomized, controlled trial,290 CFS participants were recruited and randomly allocated to group A(ginger-indirect moxibustion plus acupuncture)or group B(acupuncture alone). The study consisted of a treatment period of 8 weeks with a total of 24 treatments(3 sessions per week, every other day),and a follow-up period of 12 weeks. The outcome was measured by Fatigue Severity Scale(FSS),Psychological Health Report(SPHERE),the Self-rating depression scale(SDS)and the Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)at baseline,2,4,6,8,12 and 20 weeks.RESULTS:With the treatment undergoing, the changes of FSS,SPHERE,SDS and HAMA scores in both groups increased gradually, and the effect maintained at the 12th week.Between groups, significantly higher score changes were seen in group A in FSS after 4 weeks treatment(11.94 vs 9.12,95%CI:0.94,4.7)and in SPHERE after 2 weeks treatment(3.7 vs 2.27,95%CI:0.56,2.31).But for SDS and HAMA,the improvement did not differ significantly between groups. No severe adverse events were reported.CONCLUSION:Ginger-indirect moxibustion is a safe and effective intervention to relieve fatigue and accompanying physical symptoms of CFS. | MA Tingting WU Jie YANG Lijie FENG Fen YANG Huilin ZHANG Jinhua ZHONG Yanjin NING Qing HUANG Lirong LIN Youbing YAN Jue CHEN Guiquan HOU Tianshu WANG Li REN Yuanfang TAN Jing | 2022 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2022,42,2: | 2
Investigation of a root zone heating system for greenhouse seedling and its effects on micro-environment显示文摘Under the extremely cold climatic condition, crops have to survive severe heat stress conditions, even if they are being kept in greenhouses. In the winter and spring of North China, the air and soil temperature is low inside the greenhouse, and when using a traditional heating system, the energy consumption is high. This paper reports on a study of different design solutions for a root zone heating system based on a kind of low temperature radiation material.Root zone heating systems offer increasing crop quality and productivity.A novel type of heat preservation and root zone heating system was applied in greenhouse seedling. And through multiple experiments, the effect of the root zone heating system on the ambient environment and seedbed surface was studied, and the heat preservation effect and heating uniformity were discussed. Results show that single-layer film covering on the root zone heating system can make the average temperature at night increase 1°C.And the average seedbed surface and substrate temperature can increase 11.3°C and 5.2°C,respectively.In conclusion, the root zone heating system can effectively improve the environmental temperature of seedling and the uniformity of heating is high, which provides a strong guarantee for high-quality seedling cultivation. | Fen He Yong Hou Kai Li Xiaoming Wei Yaqing Liu | 2020 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,6: | 2

Effects of different root zone heating systems on the microclimate and crop development in solar greenhouses显示文摘Heating greenhouse is indispensable for plant development particularly in winter when the air temperature is lower. In that sense, root zone heating is more energy-saving than traditional air heating. The current work was devoted to the study of the effect of two root zone heating systems based on carbon crystal electrothermal film and low temperature hot water pipe on the microclimate and tomato yield in solar greenhouse. And their performance was tested in the coldest period of winter in Yongqing County of Hebei Province. The results showed that the use of root zone heating system can improve the average substrate temperature by 6.8℃.This microclimate improvement had a positive impact on tomato production. The output per square meter has increased by 19%compared to the unheated. It was also noted that the presence of root zone heating leads to a decrease in the development of disease in heated areas.Based on these results, the root zone heating system can be an effective method of improving the environmental temperature of crop plant, which is of great significance for increasing crop yield. | Fen He Jing Tian Liu Wang Yong Hou Fei Qi Yanping Zhang Libao Zhu Zhonghua Li | 2022 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2022,15,6: | 1

Database-Assisted Dynamic Spectrum Access with QoS Guarantees:A Double-Phase Auction Approach显示文摘Since FCC's opening for white space(WS) utilization,database-assisted dynamic spectrum access(DSA) has become the de facto solution for the realization of dynamic spectrum sharing(DSS),due to its simplicity and compatibility with commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) devices. It is envisioned that such technology will strongly support the prosperous wireless multimedia networking(WMN) applications with satisfying QoS guarantees in the future. However, how to counter the time-frequency variant property when exploiting the WS spectrum for the provision of these services to secondary users(SUs) still remains a great challenge. In such context,a dynamic secondary access scheme for database-assisted spectrum sharing networks is proposed in this paper. In the beginning, the spectrum requirements of SUs for diverse services are modeled by considering the minimum required service data-rate and spectrum access duration.Afterwards, the spectrum demand evaluation and bidding policy are formulated based on the service classes of SUs.Furthermore,a doublephase(DP) spectrum allocation scheme, which consists of the initial resource allocation phase and resource allocation adjustment phase,is carefully designed for DSA.Finally, extensive simulations are conducted and the results demonstrate that our scheme can increase the spectrum trading revenue and adapt to varying service requirements. | ZHOU Haibo LIU Bo HOU Fen ZHANG Ning GUI Lin CHEN Jiacheng Xuemin(Sherman) Shen | 2015 | China Communications2015,12,1: | 1

Treatment of Lung Cancer with Orally Administered Chinese Herbal Medicine: An Evidence Map between 1970–2020显示文摘Objective: Through showing the full picture of double-arm controlled clinical research and systematic review evidence in the field of orally administrated Chinese herbal medicine(CHM) for treatment of lung cancer, to provide a reference for future clinical research and to indicate a direction for future systematic reviews. Methods: A comprehensive search of clinical controlled studies was performed regarding orally administered CHM treatment for lung cancer published from January 1970 to September 2020. The language was restricted to Chinese and English. Relevant data were extracted, the quality of systematic reviews was evaluated, and the research evidence was visually displayed. Results: Randomized controlled trials were the most common type of research design. The research sample sizes were typically small. Oral CHM showed certain curative advantages in treating lung cancer. The key stages in oral CHM intervention for lung cancer are chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and late palliative treatment. The advantageous outcomes of oral CHM treatment of lung cancer are the short-term efficacy, quality of life, and adverse reactions. The perioperative stage, overall survival, pharmacoeconomic evaluation, and Chinese medicine decoctions are weak research areas. Conclusions: CHM has staged and therapeutic advantages in treating lung cancer. The overall methodological quality is poor, and the level of evidence requires improvement. It is necessary to carry out large-scale, standardized, and higherquality research in the superior and weak areas of CHM treatment of lung cancer. | GUI Yue-rong ZHANG Ying WANG Xue-qian FAN Bing-jie LI Jing-lei ZHANG Lan-xin FAN Fen CAO Kang-di ZHANG Xiao-gang HOU Wei | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2022,28,10: | 1
Expression of EGFP/SDCT1 fusion protein, subcellular localization signal analysis, tissue distribution and electrophysiological function study显示文摘Full-length cDNA gene of sodium-dependent dicarboxylate co-transporter protein 1 (SDCT1) is cloned from normal human kidney tissue and inserted into EGFP (enhanced green fluorescent protein) expression vector along with N-terminal and C-terminal truncated SDCT1 genes, so to construct the eukaryotic expression vectors of EGFP/SDCT1 fusion proteins, which are transfected into human renal tubular epithelial cells (HKC). Subcellular localizations of these fusion proteins are observed by laser confocal microscope to determine the localization signal of the SDCT1 protein. Duplex PCR analysis validates that the fusion protein genes have been in- tegrated into the genome of HKC. Western blot indicates that the fusion proteins have been ex- pressed in HKC. Confocal microscopy analysis shows that human SDCT1 predominantly locates on the plasma membrane, which is consistent with the results predicted by bioinformatics ap- proach; in HKC transfected with N-terminal truncated SDCT1 gene, the green fluorescence is mainly distributed on the plasma membrane; in HKC transfected with C-terminal truncated SDCT1 gene, the green fluorescence is mainly distributed in the cytoplasm. EGFP/SDCT1 mRNAs obtained by in vitro transcription are microinjected into Xenopus laevis oocytes for ex- pression and the trans-membrane currents are measured by using two-microelectrode volt- age-clamp technique. Na+ inward currents are present on cellular membrane of the injected oo- cytes. Immunohistochemical staining shows that human SDCT1 proteins are expressed on lu- men membrane of the renal proximal tubule, but are negative in distal tubule, collecting duct, renal interstitium and glomerulus. The above-mentioned studies suggest that human SDCT1 protein is located on the lumen membrane of the renal proximal tubule, the C-terminal sequence of the SDCT1 is required for delivery and targeting localization, and the plasma membrane lo- calization signal of the SDCT1 protein maybe locate in the C-terminal sequence. | BAI Xueyuan CHEN Xiangmei FEN Zhe WU Di HOU Kai CHENG Genyang PENG Lixia | 2004 | Science China(Life Sciences)2004,47,6: | 1

Effects of spin-coating speed on the morphology and photovoltaic performance of the diketopyrrolopyrrole-based terpolymer显示文摘Polymer solar cells(PSCs) were fabricated by combining a diketopyrrolopyrrole-based terpolymer(PTBT-HTID-DPP) as the electron donor, and [6,6]-phenyl C_(61) butyric acid methyl ester(PC_(61)BM) as the electron acceptor, and the power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 4.31% has been achieved under AM 1.5 G(100 m W cm^(-2)) illumination condition via optimizing the polymer/PC_(61)BM ratio, the variety of solvent and the spin-coating speed. The impact of the spin-coating speed on the photovoltaic performance of the PSCs has been investigated by revealing the effects of the spin-coating speed on the morphology and the absorption spectra of the polymer/PC_(61)BM blend films. When the thickness of the blend films are adjusted by spin-coating a fixed concentration with different spin-coating speeds, the blend film prepared at a lower spin-coating speed shows a stronger absorption per unit thickness, and the correspond device shows higher IPCE value in the longer-wavelength region. Under the conditions of similar thickness, the blend film prepared at a lower spin-coating speed forms a more uniform microphase separation and smaller domain size which leads to a higher absorption intensity per unit thickness of the blend film in long wavenumber band, a larger short-circuit current density(J_(sc)) and a higher power conversion efficiency(PCE) of the PSC device. Noteworthily, it was found that spin-coating speed is not only a way to control the thickness of active layer but also an influencing factor on morphology and photovoltaic performance for the diketopyrrolopyrrole-based terpolymer. | Fen Wu Rongyan Hou Liang Yang Bin Zhao Songting Tan | 2016 | Science China Chemistry2016,59,4: | 1

Self-organized criticality in multi-pulse gamma-ray bursts显示文摘The variability in multi-pulse gamma-ray bursts(GRBs)may help to reveal the mechanism of underlying processes from the central engine. To investigate whether the self-organized criticality(SOC)phenomena exist in the prompt phase of GRBs,we statistically study the proper ties of GRBs with more than 3 pulses in each burst by fitting the distributions of several observed physical variables with a Markov Chain Monte Carlo approach, including the isotropic energy E_(iso),the duration time T,and the peak count rate P of each pulse. Our sample consists of 454 pulses in 93 GRBs observed by the CGRO/BATSE satellite. The best-fitting values and uncertainties for these power-law indices of the differential frequency distributions are:α_(E)^(d)=1.54±0.09,α_(T)^(d)=1.82_(-0.15)^(+0.14)andα_(P)^(d)=2.09_(-0.19)^(0.18),while the power-law indices in the cumulative frequency distributions are:α_(E)^(c)=1.44_(-0.10)^(+0.08),α_(T)^(c)=1.75_(-0.13)^(0.11)andα_(P)^(c)=1.99_(-0.19)^(+0.16).We find that these distributions are roughly consistent with the physical framework of a Fractal-Diffusive,Self^Organized Criticality(FD-SOC)system with the spatial dimension S=3 and the classical diffusionβ=1.Our results support that the jet responsible for the GRBs should be magnetically dominated and magnetic instabilities(e.g.,kink model,or tearing-model instability)lead the GRB emission region into the SOC state. | Fen Lyu Ya-Ping Li Shu-Jin Hou Jun-Jie Wei Jin-Jun Geng Xue-Feng Wu | 2021 | Frontiers of physics2021,16,1: | 0
