| 2 | Role and effect of vein-transplanted human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells in the repair of diabetic foot ulcers in rats显示文摘Diabetic foot ulcer(DFU)is one of diabetic complications,which is frequently present and tormented in diabetes mellitus.Most multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)are capable of immune evasion,providing an allogeneic,ready-to-use,cell product option for therapeutic applications.The beneficial effect of MSCs for the treatment of a variety of traumatic injuries,such as open wounds,has been extensively explored.In this study,a rat DFU model was used to simulate the pathophysiology of clinical patients and to investigate the localization of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(hUC-MSCs)after intravenous transplantation and its role in DFU healing,so as to evaluate the potential of hUC-MSCs in the treatment of DFU.The diabetic rat model was established by streptozotocin injection,which was used to create full-thickness foot dorsal skin wounds to mimic DFU by a 6-mm skin biopsy punch and a Westcott scissor.The hUC-MSCs were transplanted through femoral vein,and the ulcer cicatrization situation and the fate of hUC-MSCs were evaluated.Our data suggest that intravenously transplantated hUC-MSCs have the ability to migrate and locate to the wound tissue and are helpful to wound healing in DFU rats,partly by regulating inflammation,trans-differentiation and providing growth factors that promote angiogenesis,cell proliferation and collagen deposition.Herein,we demonstrate that hUC-MSC transplantation is able to accelerate DFU healing in rats and transplantation of exogenous stem cells may be a potential strategy for clinical application in DFUs. | Rongfeng Shi Weishuai Lian Yinpeng Jin Chuanwu Cao Shilong Han Xiaohu Yang Suming Zhao Maoquan Li Hui Zhao | 2020 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,6: | 13 |

| 4 | Correlation of An Ultrasonic Scoring System and Intraoperative Blood Loss in Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorders: A Retrospective Cohort Study显示文摘Objective This study aims to investigate the correlation of an ultrasonic scoring system with intraoperative blood loss(IBL) in placenta accreta spectrum(PAS) disorders.Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted between January 2015 and November 2019.Clinical data for patients with PAS have been obtained from medical records. Generalized additive models were used to explore the nonlinear relationships between ultrasonic scores and IBL. Logistic regressions were used to determine the differences in the risk of IBL ≥ 1,500 m L among groups with different ultrasonic scores.Results A total of 332 patients participated in the analysis. Generalized additive models showed a significant positive correlation between score and blood loss. The amount of IBL was increased due to the rise in the ultrasonic score. All cases were divided into three groups according to the scores(low score group: ≤ 6 points, n = 147;median score group: 7-9 points, n = 126;and high score group: ≥ 10 points, n = 59). | 5 | Coral community changes in response to a high sedimentation event:A case study in southern Hainan Island显示文摘A high sedimentation event caused by dredging and dumping of sediment was recorded on Xiaodonghai Reef in Yulin Bay,southern Hainan Island,China.Significantly high sedimentation and constant light shading were observed during the sediment dumping event(SD Event).Using long-term video transects,we quantified coral community changes and responses to the SD Event between 2008 and 2010.The SD Event caused severe coral mortality on Xiaodonghai Reef at a depth of 6 m,while corals at 3 m were less affected.Total live coral cover at 6 m decreased from 54.3% to 14.8%,and Diploastrea heliopora replaced Galaxea fascicularis as the dominant coral species at 6 and 9 m.The density of juvenile corals also declined after the SD Event,especially for the genera Galaxea and Platygyra.However,the density of juvenile Porites and Pocillopora spp.slightly increased.Monitoring for 11 months after the SD Event indicated no recovery of coral communities on Xiaodonghai Reef.Long-term video transect data also revealed that mean live coral cover dramatically declined,from 30.5% in 2008 to 9% in 2010,while the dominant corals in Yulin Bay shifted to more tolerant coral species,such as massive Porites spp.and D.heliopora.The rapid coral community degradation in Yulin Bay between 2008 and 2010 was probably caused by high sediment deposition resulting from intensive dredging and land-clearing activities.These results highlight the necessity for an integrated watershed management to control sediment deposition on near-shore coral reefs. | LI XiuBao HUANG Hui LIAN JianSheng YANG JianHui YE Cheng CHEN YongQiang HUANG LiangMin | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,9: | 7 |

| 10 | The effects of four transplantation methods on five coral species at the Sanya Bay显示文摘Coral transplantation is considered as one of the major tools to increase coral abundance for degraded coral reefs.To investigate the effects of various methods and coral species in transplantation, coral fragments(n=902) of five coral species were transplanted by four methods at Luhuitou, the Sanya Bay, Hainan Province, China, where the reef has been over-exploited and is still threatened by human activities and natural disasters. Ten months after the transplant, the average survivorship of the transplanted corals was 45.5%. Methodologies had different effects on the transplanted corals, but none of them was efficacious for all coral species. Methodology could not change the decreasing trend for Montipora foliosa and Acropora hyacinthus, although it did slow down their decline. All transplants of A. hyacinthus and M. foliosa had high mortalities and significant decrease on survival area, while Porites andrewsi and Galaxea fascicularis had lower mortalities and partial mortalities. Only one method had significant effect on increasing survival area of G. fascicularis, same as P. andrewsi. Out of the five transplanted coral species, Pocillopora damicornis was the only species that had living tissue area increase in all applied methods, while the others had decreased live tissue area in one or more methods. The results of this study suggested that performing coral transplantation in a highly threatened area was not efficient unless the threats were diminished or erased. Moreover, proper species selection for coral transplantation is crucial, especially in a disturbed environment. Methodology, although having limited effects on improving results of coral transplantation, cannot compensate the maladjustment of vulnerable species to the stresses on the Luhuitou Reef. | 13 | Dynamics of Rodent and Rodent-borne Disease during Construction of the Three Gorges Reservoir from 1997 to 2012显示文摘Objective To investigate the impact of impoundment and active public health interventions on rodent populations and rodent-borne diseases in the Three Gorges reservoir region from 1997 to 2012. Methods Surveillance data from 1997 to 2012 were extracted from the Public Health Surveillance System of The Three Gorges established in 1997. Temporal changes in the incidences of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) and leptospirosis, rodent density, pathogen-carrying rates, and their correlations were analyzed. Results The average indoor and outdoor rodent densities decreased overall from 1997 to 2012. The average densities decreased by 47.72%(from 4.38% to 2.29%) and 39.68%(from 4.41% to 2.66%), respectively, after impoundment(2003-2012) compared with before impoundment(1997-2002). The average annual incidence rates of HFRS and leptospirosis were 0.29/100,000 and 0.52/100,000, respectively, and decreased by 85.74%(from 0.68/100,000 to 0.10/100,000) and 95.73%(from 1.47/100,000 to 0.065/100,000), respectively, after impoundment compared with before impoundment. Incidences of HFRS and leptospirosis appear to be positively correlated with rodent density in the reservoir area. Conclusion This study demonstrated that rodent density and incidences of rodent-borne diseases decreased and were maintained at low levels during construction of the Three Gorges dam. | 15 | Characteristics of deep drainage and soil water in the mobile sandy lands of Inner Mongolia, northern China显示文摘Quantification of deep drainage and the response of soil water content to rainfall patterns are critical for an effective management strategy of soil water conservation and groundwater utilization. However, there has been little information on how rainfall characteristics influence soil water dynamics and deep drainage in mobile sandy lands. We used an underground chamber to examine the responses of deep drainage and soil water content in mobile sandy lands to rainfall characteristics in Inner Mongolia during the growing seasons of 2010, 2011 and 2012. Results showed that rainfall in this area was dominated by small events(≤5 mm), which increased soil water content in the surface soil layers(0–40 cm), but did not increase soil water content in the deeper soil layers(greater than 40 cm). Soil water content at the 0–100 cm depth increased significantly when the total amount of rain was >20 mm. Rainfall amount, intensity and the duration of dry intervals were significantly related to the soil water content in different soil layers. Deep drainage was significantly correlated with rainfall amount and intensity, but not with the duration of dry intervals. The coefficients of deep drainage in the mobile sandy lands ranged from 61.30% to 67.94% during the growing seasons. | 16 | Protocatechuic aldehyde protects cardiomycoytes against ischemic injury via regulation of nuclear pyruvate kinase M2显示文摘Rescuing cells from stress damage emerges a potential therapeutic strategy to combat myocardial infarction.Protocatechuic aldehyde(PCA)is a major phenolic acid in Chinese herb Danshen(Salvia miltiorrhiza root).This study investigated whether PCA regulated nuclear pyruvate kinase isoform M2(PKM2)function to protect cardiomyocytes.In rats subjected to isoprenaline,PCA attenuated heart injury and protected cardiomyocytes from apoptosis.Through DARTS and CETSA assays,we identified that PCA bound and promoted PKM2 nuclear translocation in cardiomyocytes exposed to oxygen/glucose deprivation(OGD).In the nucleus,PCA increased the binding of PKM2 to β-Catenin via preserving PKM2 acetylation,and the complex,in cooperation with T-cell factor 4(TCF4),was required for transcriptional induction of genes encoding anti-apoptotic proteins,contributing to rescuing cardiomyocyte survival.In addition,PCA ameliorated mitochondrial dysfunction and prevented mitochondrial apoptosis dependent on PKM2.Consistently,PCA increased the binding of PKM2 to β-Catenin,improved heart contractive function,normalized heart structure and attenuated oxidative damage in mice subjected to artery ligation,but the protective effects were lost in Pkm2-deficient heart.Together,we showed that PCA regulated nuclear PKM2 function to rescue cardiomyocyte survival via β-Catenin/TCF4 signaling cascade,suggesting the potential of pharmacological intervention of PKM2 shuttle to protect the heart. | Xunxun Wu Lian Liu Qiuling Zheng Haiping Hao Hui Ye Ping Li Hua Yang | 2021 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,11: | 4 |
| 17 | Coral cover as a proxy of disturbance:A case study of the biodiversity of the hermatypic corals in Yongxing Island, Xisha Islands in the South China Sea显示文摘The Yongxing Island is the biggest island of Xisha Islands in the middle part of the South China Sea. It occupies 1.8 square kilometers of land area and has permanent residence on it. There are only a few papers on the coral community of the Xisha Islands, reporting the species composition, structure and zonations of the hermatypic coral community in 1970s. The present study describes the hermatypic coral community based on the quadrat survey after almost 30 years in Yongxing Island in August 2002. It was the first time to present the percent cover data of live corals of Yongxing Island via a systematic scheme of quantitative quadrat sampling. The average total percent cover of the live coral is 68.4%. We found the total percent cover (TPC) could be an idea proxy of the overall disturbance regime impinging on the coral community. TPC can be used as an integrated measure of disturbance to coral reef. Using this surrogate, the best fit relation between TPC of the live corals and species richness, species diversity, or the species evenness is the unimodal second-order polymorphic parabola equation. This result is expected by the intermediate disturbance hypothesis (IDH). From the fitted parabola equations, we calculated the best TPCs corresponding to the maximal species richness, the highest species diversity, or the most evenness respectively. They are surprisingly stabilized between 55% and 58%. Coralcover is the basic parameter widely available for most observation, research or monitoring programs.
