1Methylmercury and sulfate-reducing bacteria in mangrove sediments from Jiulong River Estuary,China显示文摘Estuaries are important sites for mercury (Hg) methylation,with sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) thought to be the main Hg methylators.Distributions of total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) in mangrove sediment and sediment core from Jiulong River Estuary Provincial Mangrove Reserve,China were determined and the possible mechanisms of Hg methylation and their controlling factors in mangrove sediments were investigated.Microbiological and geochemical parameters were also determined.Results showed that SRB constitute a small fraction of total bacteria (TB) in both surface sediments and the profile of sediments.The content of THg,MeHg,TB,and SRB were (350±150)ng/g,(0.47±0.11)ng/g,(1.4×10 11±4.1×109)cfu/g dry weight (dw),and (5.0×106±2.7×106)cfu/g dw in surficial sediments,respectively,and (240±24)ng/g,(0.30±0.15)ng/g,(1.9×1011± 4.2×1010)cfu/g dw,and (1.3×106± 2.0×106) cfu/g dw in sediment core,respectively.Results showed that THg,MeHg,TB,MeHg/THg,salinity and total sulfur (TS) increased with depth,but total organic matter (TOM),SRB,and pH decreased with depth.Concentrations of MeHg in sediments showed significant positive correlation with THg,salinity,TS,and MeHg/THg,and significant negative correlation with SRB,TOM,and pH.It was concluded that other microbes,rather than SRB,may also act as main Hg methylators in mangrove sediments.Hao Wu Zhenhua Ding Yang Liu Jinling Liu Haiyu Yan Jiayong Pan Liuqiang Li Huina Lin Guanghui Lin Haoliang Lu 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1:17

4Coseismic response of groundwater level in the Three Gorges well network and its relationship to aquifer parameters显示文摘The 12 May 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake caused notable changes in the water levels of wells in the Three Gorges area. This work examines the relationship between these coseismic changes in water level and the changes in aquifer parameters. Three wells in the area with good responses to earth tide were chosen for analysis. Water-level data from February to June 2008 were used to calculate the aquifer transmissivity, permeability and specific storage of the rocks, and analyze the relationship between the coseismic responses of the wells and their aquifer parameters. The results show that the Wenchuan earthquake changed these parameters considerably, thereby controlling co- and postseismic variations of water level. The values of these parameters prior to the earthquake are linearly related with the amplitudes of coseismic variations in water level. The larger the aquifer transmissivity, the more remarkable the coseismic change in water level. During the earthquake, changes in aquifer parameters were found to be associated with coseismic variations in water level, with the larger changes occurring when the coseismic variation in water level was larger. The tectonic setting has a certain degree of influence on the co- and postseismic changes in water level. The permeability structures of the fault zone appear to determine the manner of coseismic variation in water level. Moreover, it seems that the water level in wells where groundwater converges more easily can recover faster following an earthquake. 5Signal pathways of melanoma and targeted therapy显示文摘Melanoma is the most lethal skin cancer that originates from the malignant transformation of melanocytes.Although melanoma has long bee n regarded as a cancerous malig nancy with few therapeutic opti ons,in creased biological understandi ng and unprecedented innovations in therapies targeting mutated driver genes and immune checkpoints have substantially improved the prog nosis of patients.However,the low response rate and inevitable occurre nee of resistance to curre ntly available targeted therapies have posed the obstacle in the path of melanoma management to obtain further amelioration.Therefore,it is necessary to understand the mechanisms underlying melanoma pathogenesis more comprehensively,which might lead to more substantial progress in therapeutic approaches and expand clinical options for melanoma therapy.In this review,we firstly make a brief introduction to melanoma epidemiology,clinical subtypes,risk factors,and current therapies.Then,the signal pathways orchestrati ng mela noma pathogenesis,in eluding gen etic mutatio ns,key tran scripti onal regulators,epige netic dysregulati ons,metabolic reprogramming,crucial metastasis-related signals,tumor-promoting inflammatory pathways,and pro-angiogenic factors,have been systemically reviewed and discussed.Subsequently,we outline current progresses in therapies targeting mutated driver genes and immune checkpoi nts,as well as the mecha nisms underlying the treatment resista nee.Finally,the prospects and challe nges in the developme nt of mela noma therapy,especially immu no therapy and related ongoing din ical trials,are summarized and discussed.Weinan Guo Huina Wan Chunying Li 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,1:4
6The fluidesolid coupling analysis of screw conveyor in drilling fluid centrifuge based on ANSYS显示文摘In the centrifugal separations of drilling fluid,screw conveyor is a critical component to push and separate the sediment.The work performance and structural parameters of conveyor are immediately related to the production capability,the working life and the separating effect of the centrifuge.The existing researches always use the theoretical calculation of the approximate loads to analyze the strength of conveyor,and it cannot reflect the stress situations accurately.In order to ensure the precise mastery of the working performance,this article obtained pressure distribution under working conditions from CFX evaluation and gained equivalent stress and deformation under several load conditions by using the ANSYS Workbench platform to check the strength of conveyor.The results showed that the influence of centrifugal hydraulic pressure was less than that of centrifugal force on the strength and deformation of conveyor.Besides,the maximum equivalent stress occurred at the inside of the feed opening,while the maximum deformation occurred at the conveyor blade edge of taper extremity.Furthermore,whether considered the feed opening or not,the computing model had a great influence on the analysis results,and the simplified loads had a great influence on the deformation analysis results.The methods and results from this article can provide reference for the design and the improvement of screw conveyor.Hongbin Liu Pingying Li Huina Xiao Weitao Mu 2015Petroleum2015,1,3:3
7Optimization of a synthetic medium for ethanol production by xylose-fermenting Zymomonas mobilis using response surface methodology显示文摘A synthetic medium for ethanol production by recombinant xylose-fermenting Zymomonas mobilis was optimized using Plackett-Burman(PB) design and response surface methodology(RSM).The effects of 19 medium components were investigated by PB design.Eight of these components were determined to have significant effects on ethanol production.The statistical model was constructed via central composite design(CCD) using five selected variables,including xylose,trisodium citrate,choline chloride,pyridoxine,and thiamine.The validity of the developed model was verified.The ethanol concentration in the optimized medium was 6.7% higher than in the RM medium.The optimized medium was then simplified to give the final synthetic medium(S2),in which the ethanol concentration was 20.7% higher than in the RM medium.Xylose and trisodium citrate were the key medium components influencing ethanol production,while calcium pantothenate was the only growth factor required by recombinant Z.mobilis.Ethanol production and growth response were directly proportional to the logarithm of the concentration of trisodium citrate in the range of 0.1-1.6 g/L.DONG HuiNa ZHAO XueMing MA YuanYuan ZHANG MinHua 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,28:3

9Single-cell transcriptomics reveals gene signatures and alterations associated with aging in distinct neural stem/progenitor cell subpopulations显示文摘Aging associated cognitive decline has been linked to dampened neural stem/progenitor cells (NSC/NPCs) activities manifested by decreased proliferation, reduced propensity to produce neurons, and increased differentiation into astrocytes. While gene transcription changes objectively reveal molecular alterations of cells undergoing various biological processes, the search for molecular mechanisms underlying aging of NSC/NPCs has been confronted by the enormous heterogeneity in cellular compositions of the brain and the complex cellular microenvironment where NSC/NPCs reside. Moreover, brain NSC/NPCs themselves are not a homogenous population, making it even more difficult to uncover NSC/NPC sub-type specific aging mechanisms. Here, using both population-based and single cell transcriptome analyses of young and aged mouse forebrain ependymal and subependymal regions and comprehensive “big-data” processing, we report that NSC/NPCs reside in a rather inflammatory environment in aged brain, which likely contributes to the differentiation bias towards astrocytes versus neurons. Moreover, single cell transcriptome analyses revealed that different aged NSC/NPC subpopulations, while all have reduced cell proliferation, use different gene transcription programs to regulate age-dependent decline in cell cycle. Interestingly, changes in cell proliferation capacity are not influenced by inflammatory cytokines, but likely result from cell intrinsic mechanisms. The Erk/Mapk pathway appears to be critically involved in regulating age-dependent changes in the capacity for NSC/NPCs to undergo clonal expansion. 10The RALF1-FERONIA complex interacts with and activates TOR signaling in response to low nutrients显示文摘Target of rapamycin(TOR)kinase is an evolutionarily conserved major regulator of nutrient metabolism and organismal growth in eukaryotes.In plants,nutrients are remobilized and reallocated between shoots and roots under low-nutrient conditions,and nitrogen and nitrogen-related nutrients(e.g.,amino acids)are key upstream signals leading to TOR activation in shoots under low-nutrient conditions.However,how these forms of nitrogen can be sensed to activate TOR in plants is still poorly understood.Here we report that the Arabidopsis receptor kinase FERON IA(FER)interacts with the TOR pathway to regulate nutrient(nitrogen and amino acid)signaling under low-nutrient conditions and exerts similar metabolic effects in response to nitrogen deficiency.We found that FER and its partner,RPM1-induced protein kinase(RIPK),interact with the TOR/RAPTOR complex to positively modulate TOR signaling activity.During this process,the receptor complex FER/RIPK phosphorylates the TOR complex component RAPTOR1B.The RALF1 peptide,a ligand of the FER/RIPK receptor complex,increases TOR activation in the young leaf by enhancing FER-TOR interactions,leading to promotion of true leaf growth in Arabidopsis under lownutrient conditions.Furthermore,we showed that specific amino acids(e.g.,Gin,Asp,and Gly)promote true leaf growth under nitrogen-deficient conditions via the FER-TOR axis.Collectively,our study reveals a mechanism by which the RALF1-FER pathway activates TOR in the plant adaptive response to low nutrients and suggests that plants prioritize nutritional stress response over RALF1-mediated inhibition of cell growth under low-nutrient conditions.Limei Song Guoyun Xu Tingting Li Huina Zhou Qinlu Lin Jia Chen Long Wang Dousheng Wu Xiaoxu Li Lifeng Wang Sirui Zhu Feng Yu 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,7:2

13Field synergy analysis of pollutant dispersion in street canyons and its optimization by adding wind catchers显示文摘The microenvironment,which involves pollutant dispersion of the urban street canyon,is critical to the health of pedestrians and residents.The objectives of this work are twofold:(i)to effectively assess the pollutant dispersion process based on a theory and(ii)to adopt an appropriate stratigy,i.e.,wind catcher,to alleviate the pollution in the street canyons.Pollutant dispersion in street canyons is essentially a convective mass transfer process.Because the convective heat transfer process and the mass transfer process are physically similar and the applicability of field synergy theory to turbulence has been verified in the literature,we apply the field synergy theory to the study of pollutant dispersion in street canyons.In this paper,a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation is conducted to investigate the effects of wind catcher,wind speed and the geometry of the street canyons on pollutant dispersion.According to the field synergy theory,Sherwood number and field synergy number are used to quantitatively evaluate the wind catcher and wind speed on the diffusion of pollutants in asymmetric street canyons.The results show that adding wind catchers can significantly improve the air quality of the step-down street canyon and reduce the average pollutant concentrations in the street canyon by 75%.Higher wind speed enhances diffusion of pollutants differently in different geometric street canyons.Tingzhen Ming Huina Han Zhen Zhao Renaud de Richter Yongjia Wu Wei Li Nyuk Hien Wong 2021Building Simulation2021,14,2:2
14Effect of impeller type and scale-up on spatial distribution of shear rate in a stirred tank显示文摘The main spatial distribution features of shear rate in a stirred tank operated with five different radial and axial flow impellers were presented with particle image velocimetry(PIV)experiments.Not only the average shear rate in the whole tank but also the local value in the vicinity of impeller increases linearly with impeller speed.Furthermore,the shear coefficient(Ks,imp)at the impeller outlet is linearly related to the impeller flow number(Nq)and decreases with the increase of Nq in general at the constant power consumption per unit volume(Pv).During scale-up based on the constant Pv and geometric similarity,CFD results show that the volume-averaged shear rate(cavg)for RDT decreases faster than that of other impellers with the impeller tip velocity(Utip).The novel multi-blade combined(MBC)impeller with the increased height-to-diameter ratio of the stirred tank is able to more effectively improve the distribution uniformity of shear rate at the same Pv after scale-up.These studies provide a data basis for selecting the impeller types and improving the shear rate environment in the large-scale stirred tank.Huina Wang Xiaoxia Duan Xin Feng Zai-Sha Mao Chao Yang 2022Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2022,35,2:2
