| 1 | Modeling study of regional severe hazes over mid-eastern China in January 2013 and its implications on pollution prevention and control显示文摘The Nested Air Quality Prediction Model System(NAQPMS)was used to investigate the temporal and spatial variations of PM2.5over tropospheric central eastern China in January 2013.The impact of regional transport and its implications on pollution prevention and control were also examined.Comparison between simulated and observed PM2.5showed NAQPMS was able to reproduce the evolution of PM2.5during heavy haze episodes.The results indicated that regional transport of PM2.5played an important role in regional haze episodes in the city cluster including Hebei,Beijing and Tianjin(HBT).The cross-city clusters transport outside HBT and transport among cities inside HBT contributed 20%–35%and 26%–35%of PM2.5as compared with local emission,in HBT respectively.To meet the Air Quality Standards for Grade II,90%,90%and65%of emissions would have to be cut down in Hebei,Tianjin and Beijing,if non-control strategy was taken in the surrounding city clusters of HBT.This implicated that control of emissions in one city cluster is not sufficient to reduce regional haze events,and joint efforts among city clusters are essential.Besides regional transports,two-way feedback between boundary-layer evolution and PM2.5also significantly contributed to the formation of heavy hazes,which contributed 30%of monthly average PM2.5concentration in HBT. | WANG ZiFa LI Jie WANG Zhe YANG WenYi TANG Xiao GE BaoZhu YAN PinZhong ZHU LiLi CHEN XueShun CHEN HuanSheng WAND Wei LI JianJun LIU Bing WANG XiaoYan WAND Wei ZHAO YiLin LU Ning SU DeBin | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,1: | 106 |
| 2 | Molecular subtyping and genomic profiling expand precision medicine in refractory metastatic triple-negative breast cancer:the FUTURE trial显示文摘Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is a highly heterogeneous disease,and molecular subtyping may result in improved diagnostic precision and targeted therapies.Our previous study classified TNBCs into four subtypes with putative therapeutic targets.Here,we conducted the FUTURE trial(ClinicalTrials.gov identifer:NCT03805399),a phaseⅠb/Ⅱsubtyping-based and genomic biomarker-guided umbrella trial,to evaluate the efficacy of these targets.Patients with refractory metastatic TNBC were enrolled and stratifed by TNBC subtypes and genomic biomarkers,and assigned to one of these seven arms:(A)pyrotinib with capecitabine,(B)androgen receptor inhibitor with CDK4/6 inhibitor,(C)anti PD-1 with nab-paclitaxel,(D)PARP inhibitor included,(E)and(F)anti-VEGFR included,or(G)mTOR inhibitor with nab paclitaxel.The primary end point was the objective response rate(ORR).We enrolled 69 refractory metastatic TNBC patients with a median of three previous lines of therapy(range,1-8).Objective response was achieved in 20(29.0%,95%confidence interval(CI):18.7%-41.2%)of the 69 intention-to-treat(ITT)patients.Our results showed that immunotherapy(arm C),in particular,achieved the highest ORR(52.6%,95%CI:28.9%-75.6%)in the ITT population.Arm E demonstrated favorable ORR(26.1%,95%C:10.2%-48.4%in the ITT population)but with more high grade(23)adverse events.Somatic mutations of TOP2A and CD8 immunohistochemical score may have the potential to predict immunotherapy response in the immunomodulatory subtype of TNBC.In conclusion,the phaseⅠb/ⅡFUTURE trial suggested a new concept for TNBC treatment,demonstrating the clinical beneft of subtyping-based targeted therapy for refractory metastatic TNBC. | Yi-Zhou Jiang Yin Liu Yi Xiao Xin Hu Lin Jiang Wen-ia Zuo Ding Ma Jiahan Ding Xiaoyu Zhu Jianjun Zou Claire Verschraegen Daniel G.Stover Virginia Kaklamani Zhong-Hua Wang Zhi-Ming Shao | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,2: | 37 |
| 3 | Wind tunnel test on the effect of metal net fences on sand flux in a Gobi Desert, China显示文摘The Lanzhou-Xinjiang High-speed Railway runs through an expansive windy area in a Gobi Desert, and sand-blocking fences were built to protect the railway from destruction by wind-blown sand. However, the shielding effect of the sand-blocking fence is below the expectation. In this study, effects of metal net fences with porosities of 0.5 and 0.7 were tested in a wind tunnel to determine the effectiveness of the employed two kinds of fences in reducing wind velocity and restraining wind-blown sand. Specifically, the horizontal wind velocities and sediment flux densities above the gravel surface were measured under different free-stream wind velocities for the following conditions: no fence at all, single fence with a porosity of 0.5, single fence with a porosity of 0.7, double fences with a porosity of 0.5, and double fences with a porosity of 0.7. Experimental results showed that the horizontal wind velocity was more significantly decreased by the fence with a porosity of 0.5, especially for the double fences. The horizontal wind velocity decreased approximately 65% at a distance of 3.25 m(i.e., 13 H, where H denotes the fence height) downwind the double fences, and no reverse flow or vortex was observed on the leeward side. The sediment flux density decreased exponentially with height above the gravel surface downwind in all tested fences. The reduction percentage of total sediment flux density was higher for the fence with a porosity of 0.5 than for the fence with a porosity of 0.7, especially for the double fences. Furthermore, the decreasing percentage of total sediment flux density decreased with increasing free-stream wind velocity. | 4 | Formability of AA 2219-O sheet under quasi-static,electromagnetic dynamic,and mechanical dynamic tensile loadings显示文摘The mechanism by which electromagnetic forming(EMF)enhances the formability of metals is unclear owing to the coupling effect of multi-physics fields.In the present work,the associated formability improvement mechanisms were qualitatively categorized and illustrated.This was realized by comparing the formability of fully annealed 2219 aluminum alloy(AA 2219-O)sheet under quasi-static(QS),electromagnetic dynamic(EM),and mechanical dynamic(MD)tensile loadings.It was found that the forming limit of AA 2219-O sheet under EM tensile loading was significantly(45.4%)higher than that under QS tensile loading,and was marginally(3.7%–4.3%)higher than that under MD tensile loading.In addition,the forming limit of AA 2219-O sheet demonstrated a negative dependency on the strain rate within the range of the dynamic tensile tests conducted.The deformation conditions common to EM and MD tensile loadings were responsible for the significant formability improvement compared with QS tensile loading.In particular,the inertial effect was dominant.The different deformation conditions that distinguish EM tensile loading from MD tensile loading resulted in the marginal improvement in formability.This was caused by the absence of a sustaining contact force at the later deformation stage and the lower strain rate.The body force exerted little influence on the formability improvement,and the thermal effect under the two dynamic tensile loadings was negligible. | Hongliang Su Liang Huang Jianjun Li Wang Xiao Hui Zhu Fei Feng Hongwei Li Siliang Yan | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,11: | 13 |

| 7 | Influence of Golmud-Lhasa Section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway on Blown Sand Transport显示文摘The Qinghai-Tibet Railway(QTR) passes through 281 km of sandy land, 11.07 km of which causes serious sand damage to the railway and thus, the control of blown sand is important for the safe operation of the railway. Construction of the railway and sand prevention system greatly changed the blown sand transport of the primary surface. Effective and feasible sand-control measures include stone checkerboard barriers(SCBs), sand fences(SFs), and gravel coverings. This study simulated the embankments, SCBs and SFs of the QTR in a wind tunnel, and analyzed their respective wind profile, sand deposition, and sand-blocking rate(SBR) in conjunction with field data, aiming at studying the influence of Golmud-Lhasa section of the QTR and sand prevention system on blown sand transport. The results of wind tunnel experiments showed that wind speed increased by 67.7%–77.3% at the upwind shoulder of the embankment and decreased by 50.0%–83.3% at upwind foot of embankment. Wind speed decreased by 50.0%–100.0% after passing through the first SF, and 72.2%–100.0% after the first row of stones within the first SCB grid. In the experiment of sand deposition, the higher the wind speed, the lower the SBR of SCB and SF. From field investigation, the amount of sand blocked by the four SFs decreased exponentially and its SBR was about 50.0%. By contrast, SCB could only block lower amounts of sand, but had a higher SBR(96.7%) than SF. | 9 | Lodging resistance and yield potential of winter wheat:effect of planting density and genotype显示文摘Improved lodging resistance is important for achieving high yield in irrigated environments.This study was conducted to determine genotypic variation in lodging resistance and related morphological traits among winter wheat cultivars planted at two densities,and to identify key traits associated with lodging resistance.Lodging performance of 28 genotypes,including 24 released cultivars and four advanced lines,was evaluated at 250 plants per square meter and 500 plants per square meter in Shandong province during the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 crop seasons.At the higher density,the average grain yield was 2.6%higher,even though lodging score rose by as much as 136%.The higher planting density increased lodging through increased leaf area index(LAI),plant height,center of gravity and length of basal internodes,and reduced grain weight per spike and diameter of the lower two stem internodes.LAI,center of gravity and diameter of first internodes,as the important indicators for lodging resistance,were significantly correlated with lodging score,with R=0.62,0.59 and–0.52(P<0.01),respectively.Plant pushing resistance was significantly associated with diameter and length of the first internodes(R=0.71–0.77,P<0.01),indicating it could be used to assess the strength of the lower stem.Higher planting density could be used to select genotypes with lodging resistance in irrigated environments.Cultivars carrying high plant density tolerance and high yield potential,such as Jimai 22 and Liangxing 66,were recommended as leading cultivars for production as well as elite crossing parents for further increasing yield potential in the Yellow and Huai Valleys Winter Wheat Zone in China. | Yonggui XIAO Jianjun LIU Haosheng LI Xinyou CAO Xianchun XIA Zhonghu HE | 2015 | Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2015,2,2: | 5 |
| 10 | Morphology and formation mechanism of sand shadow dunes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The formation and development of dunes depend on wind-blown sand movement which is affected by the characteristics of sand material, topography, wind regimes and other factors. In this paper, we investigated two sand shadow dune groups in Shigatse and Za'gya Zangbo of Tibet and an individual dune in Da Qaidam of Qinghai, and analyzed their topographies and morphologies, and the physical characteristics of the sand, wind regime and sand transport. Formed under harsh conditions behind hills, these mature sand shadow dunes are hundreds of meters long, have significant ridges and crescent dunes downwind, and have a hill pass on one or both sides. Wind tunnel experiments revealed that the hill gap and wind velocity are important factors in the formation of these dunes. Sand shadow dunes formed only when the gap spacing is two-thirds of the hill height. When wind velocities are 20 m/s, the sand body is divided into two parts. The hill pass allows the transport of sand by wind, creating a 'narrow-pipe effect', which causes the transported material to gradually accumulate in the center of the shadow zone. We observed that the following are needed for sand shadow dunes to form:(1) strong winds, sufficient sand, suitable obstacles and a dry climate;(2) one or both sides of the obstacle forming the shadow zone must have a hill pass; and(3) the windward side of the obstacle must have a wide, flat area, providing adequate spacing for wind flow and transport of material and the leeward side must have a sufficiently broad, flat area to allow the release of the transported material. | 14 | A new electroplated Ir/Ir(OH)_x pH electrode and its application in the coastal areas of Newport Harbor, California显示文摘Resulting from the rising levels of atmospheric carbon, ocean acidification has become a global problem. It has significant impacts on the development, survival, growth and physiology of marine organisms. Therefore, a highprecision sensor is urgently needed to measure the pH of sea-water. Iridium wire with a diameter of 0.25 mm is used as the substrate, and an Ir/Ir(OH)_x pH electrode is prepared by a one-step electrochemical method in a Li OH solution at the room temperature. A scanning electron microscope(SEM) observation reveals that it is coated with nanoscale particles. In laboratory tests, the electrode exhibits a very promising pH response, with an ideal Nernst slope(56.14–59.52), fast response, good stability and long life-span in tested pH buffer solutions. For a sea trial,four pH electrodes and one Ag/Ag Cl reference electrode are integrated with a self-made chemical sensor, and a profile detection of nearly 70 m is implemented near Newport Harbor, California on August 3, 2015. The results reflect that the pH value measured by the sensor is very close to the data given by Sea-Bird 911 plus CTD, with a difference value ranging from 0.000 075 to 0.064 719. And the sensor shows a better data matching degree in 0–40m water depth. | 16 | Mineralized collagen-modified PMMA cement enhances bone integration and reduces fibrous encapsulation in the treatment of lumbar degenerative disc disease显示文摘As a minimally invasive surgery,percutaneous cement discoplasty(PCD)is now contemplated to treat lumbar disc degeneration disease in elder population.Here,we investigated whether the osteogenic mineralized collagen(MC)modified polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA)cement could be a suitable material in PCD surgery.Injectability,hydrophilicity and mechanical properties of the MC-modified PMMA(PMMA-MC)was characterized.The introduction of MC did not change the application and setting time of PMMA and was easy to be handled in minimally invasive operation.Hydrophilicity of PMMA-MC was greatly improved and its elastic modulus was tailored to complement mechanical performance of bone under dynamic stress.Then,PCD surgery in a goat model with induced disc degeneration was performed with implantation of PMMA-MC or PMMA.Three months after implantation,micro-computed tomography analysis revealed a 36.4%higher circumferential contact index between PMMA-MC and bone,as compared to PMMA alone.Histological staining confirmed that the surface of PMMA-MC was in direct contact with new bone,while the PMMA was covered by fibrous tissue.The observed gathering of macrophages around the implant was suspected to be the cause of fibrous encapsulation.Therefore,the interactions of PMMA and PMMA-MC with macrophages were investigated in vitro.We discovered that the addition of MC could hinder the proliferation and fusion of the macrophages.Moreover,expressions of fibroblaststimulating growth factors,insulin-like growth factor,basic fibroblast growth factor and tumor necrosis factor-b were significantly down-regulated in the macrophages cocultured with PMMA-MC.Together,the promoted osteointegration and reduced fibrous tissue formation observed with PMMA-MC material makes it a promising candidate for PCD surgery. | Long Yang Jianjun Kong Zhiye Qiu Tieliang Shang Siyu Chen Rui Zhao Maria Grazia Raucci Xiao Yang Zhanyong Wu | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,2: | 1 |

| 19 | Polar WRF V4.1.1.simulation and evaluation for the Antarctic and Southern Ocean显示文摘A recent version of the Polar Weather Research and Forecasting model(Polar WRF)has been upgraded to the version 4.X era with an improved NoahMP Land Surface Model(LSM).To assess the model performance over the Antarctic and Southern Ocean,downscaling simulations with different LSM(NoahMP,Noah),WRF versions(Polar WRF 4.1.1 and earlier version 4.0.3,WRF 4.1.1),and driving data(ERA-Interim,ERA5)are examined with two simulation modes:the short-term that consists of a series of 48 h segments initialized daily at 0000 UTC with the first 24 h selected for model spin-up,whereas the long-term component used to evaluate long-term prediction consists of a series of 38-41 day segments initialized using the first 10 days for spin-up of the hydrological cycle and planetary boundary layer structure.Simulations using short-term mode driven by ERA-Interim with NoahMP and Noah are selected for benchmark experiments.The results show that Polar WRF 4.1.1 has good skills over the Antarctic and Southern Ocean and better performance than earlier simulations.The reduced downward shortwave radiation bias released with WRF 4.1.1 performed well with PWRF411.Although NoahMP and Noah led to very similar conclusions,NoahMP is slightly better than Noah,particularly for the 2 m temperature and surface radiation because the minimum albedo is set at 0.8 over the ice sheet.Moreover,a suitable nudging setting plays an important role in long-term forecasts,such as reducing the surface temperature diurnal cycle near the coast.The characteristics investigated in this study provide a benchmark to improve the model and guidance for further application of Polar WRF in the Antarctic. | Jianjun XUE Ziniu XIAO David H.BROMWICH Lesheng BAI | 2022 | Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,4: | 1 |
