1Mussel-inspired agarose hydrogel scaffolds for skin tissue engineering显示文摘Polysaccharide hydrogels are widely used in tissue engineering because of their superior biocompatibility and low immunogenicity.However,many of these hydrogels are unrealistic for practical applications as the cost of raw materials is high,and the fabrication steps are tedious.This study focuses on the facile fabrication and optimization of agarose-polydopamine hydrogel(APG)scaffolds for skin wound healing.The first study objective was to evaluate the effects of polydopamine(PDA)on the mechanical properties,water holding capacity and cell adhesiveness of APG.We observed that APG showed decreased rigidity and increased water content with the addition of PDA.Most importantly,decreased rigidity translated into significant increase in cell adhesiveness.Next,the slow biodegradability and high biocompatibility of APG with the highest PDA content(APG3)was confirmed.In addition,APG3 promoted full-thickness skin defect healing by accelerating collagen deposition and promoting angiogenesis.Altogether,we have developed a straightforward and efficient strategy to construct functional APG scaffold for skin tissue engineering,which has translation potentials in clinical practice.Ting Su Mengying Zhang Qiankun Zeng Wenhao Pan Yijing Huang Yuna Qian Wei Dong Xiaoliang Qi Jianliang Shen 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,3:6
2Enclosed stigma contributes to higher spikelet fertility for rice(Oryza sativa L.) subjected to heat stress显示文摘With global warming, rice plants may be subjected to heat stress more regularly during the heatsensitive flowering stage, causing spikelet sterility and grain yield loss.Stigma exsertion is considered to increase pollen reception and promote female reproductive success.The aim of this study was to investigate the role of stigma exsertion on spikelet fertility at high temperatures.Five rice cultivars(Liangyoupeijiu, Shanyou 63, Huanghuazhan, Nagina 22, and IR64) with differing degrees of stigma exsertion were cultivated and exposed to high temperature at anthesis.Heat-tolerant cultivars did not always show a high percentage of spikelets with exserted stigmas, and vice versa.Irrespective of the presence of more pollen grains on exserted stigmas, spikelets with exserted stigmas did not show greater spikelet fertility than spikelets with fewer exserted stigmas or hidden stigmas under heat stress.GA3 application augmented the percentage of spikelets with exserted stigmas;however, it did not increase spikelet fertility under heat stress.Spikelet fertility of whole panicles was negatively correlated with the percentage of spikelets with exserted stigmas, but positively with that with hidden stigmas.Viability of the hidden stigmas was less reduced than that of exserted stigmas under heat stress, suggesting that hidden stigmas have an advantage in maintaining viability.Heat stress delayed anther dehiscence and reduced the viabilities of both exserted stigmas and pollens, thereby causing low spikelet fertility.Together, these results suggest that high spikelet fertility does not depend on stigma exsertion and that enclosed stigma generally contributes to higher spikelet fertility and heat tolerance under high-temperature conditions during flowering in rice.Chao Wu Kehui Cui Qiuqian Hu Wencheng Wang Lixiao Nie Jianliang Huang Shaobing Peng 2019The Crop Journal2019,7,3:4
3Comparison of yield performance between direct-seeded and transplanted double-season rice using ultrashort-duration varieties in central China显示文摘Labor scarcity requires double-season rice to be planted by direct seeding as an alternative to transplanting. Only ultrashort-duration varieties can be used in direct-seeded, double-season rice(DSD) in central China where thermal time is limited. Whether ultrashort-duration varieties grown in DSD can be as productive and efficient in nitrogen(N) use as transplanted double-season rice(TPD) remains unclear. Field experiments were conducted in Hubei province, central China with two establishment methods(DSD,TPD) and three N rates in the early and late seasons of 2017 and 2018. Nitrogen treatments included zero-N control(N0), total N rate of 60 kg N ha;with equal splits at basal, midtillering, and panicle initiation(N1), and weekly N application at 15 kg ha;from seeding/transplanting to heading(N2). Both early-and late-season rice under DSD matured within 95 days, on average 9 days shorter than rice under TPD. The grain yield of DSD was comparable to or higher than that of TDP in both seasons, although the daily yield was significantly higher under DSD than under TDP. Before heading, DSD had higher leaf area,stem number, intercepted radiation, and radiation use efficiency than TPD, which compensated for the negative effect of short growth duration on biomass production. Total dry weight and harvest index under DSD were comparable to or higher than those under TDP. In general, the recovery efficiency of fertilizer-N under DSD was higher than that under TPD, but the reverse was true for physiological N use efficiency. Thus, there was no significant difference in agronomic N use efficiency between DSD and TPD. 4Lens Epithelial Cell Proliferation and Cell Density in Human Age-related Cataract显示文摘Purpose: To discuss the potential effect of the lens epithelial cell proliferation inage-related cataract.Methods: In vitro cell proliferation was assayed by MTT method to evaluate the lensepithelial cell density, index, and proliferation capacity in normal lens and all kinds ofage-related cataract. Capsulotomy specimens from all kinds of patients who underwentcataract phacoemulsification extraction surgery were compared with the lens epithelialspecimens from non-cataract lenses of Eye Bank eyes.Results:Lens epithelial cell density of central anterior capsule(LECD) in female normallens was higher than that in male, LECD in nuclear cataract (> NⅢ) was higher thanthat in normal lens, but in the mature cortical cataract, LECD was lower. 5Heavy soil drying during mid-to-late grain filling stage of the main crop to reduce yield loss of the ratoon crop in a mechanized rice ratooning system显示文摘Yield loss(Y_(Loss)) in the ratoon crop due to crushing damage to left stubble from mechanical harvesting of the main crop is a constraint for wide adoption of mechanized rice ratooning technology.Soil drying before the harvest of the main crop has been proposed to overcome this problem.The objective of this study was to determine the effect of soil drying during the mid-to-late grain filling stage of the main crop on grain yield of the ratoon crop in a mechanized rice ratooning system.Field experiments were conducted to compare Y_(Loss) between light(LD) and heavy(HD) soil drying treatments in Hubei province,central China in 2017 and 2018.Y_(Loss) was calculated as the percentage of yield reduction in the ratoon crop with the main crop harvested mechanically,relative to the grain yield of the ratoon crop with the main crop harvested manually.In comparison with LD,soil hardness was increased by 42.8%-84.7% in HD at the 5-20 cm soil depth at maturity of the main crop.Soil hardness at 5 and 10 cm depths reached respectively 4.05 and 7.07 kg cm^(-2) in HD.Soil drying treatment did not significantly affect the grain yield of the main crop.Under mechanical harvesting of the main crop,HD increased the grain yield of the ratoon crop by 9.4% relative to LD.Consequently,Y_(Loss) was only 3.4% in HD,in contrast to 16.3% in LD.The differences in grain yield and Y_(Loos) between the two soil drying treatments were explained mainly by panicles m^(-2),which was increased significantly by HD in the track zone of the ratoon crop compared with LD.These results suggest that heavy soil drying practice during the mid-to-late grain filling stage of the main crop is effective for reducing Y_(Loss) of the ratoon crop in a mechanized rice ratooning system.Chang Zheng Yuechao Wang Shen Yuan Sen Xiao Yating Sun Jianliang Huang Shaobing Peng 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,1:3
6Surface texturing for adaptive Ag/MoS_2 solid lubricant plating显示文摘The objective of this research is to prepare specially designed surface texture on hard steel surface by electrochemical micromachining (EM) and to incorporate electroless plated Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating into the dimples of EM textured steel surface to effectively reduce friction and wear of steel-steel contacts. The friction and wear behavior of the Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating on EM textured steel surface was evaluated in relation to the size and spacing of the dimples thereon. The microstructure of as-plated Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating and the morphology and elemental composition of the worn coating surface and counterface steel surface were analyzed by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectrometry. It is found that electroless plated Ag/MoS2 coating is able to greatly reduce the friction and wear of the EM textured steel disc coupled with GCr15 steel ring, mainly because of the formation of solid self-lubricating layer on the EM textured steel surface and of transferred lubricating film on counterface steel surface. 7Polydopamine nanoparticle-dotted food gum hydrogel with excellent antibacterial activity and rapid shape adaptability for accelerated bacteria-infected wound healing显示文摘Most commonly used wound dressings have severe problems,such as an inability to adapt to wound shape or a lack of antibacterial capacity,affecting their ability to meet the requirements of clinical applications.Here,a nanocomposite hydrogel(XKP)is developed by introducing polydopamine nanoparticles(PDA NPs)into a food gum matrix(XK,consisting of xanthan gum and konjac glucomannan,both FDA-approved food thickening agents)for skin wound healing.In this system,the embedded PDA NPs not only interact with the food gum matrix to form a hydrogel with excellent mechanical strength,but also act as photothermal transduction agents to convert near-infrared laser radiation to heat,thereby triggering bacterial death.Moreover,the XKP hydrogel has high elasticity and tunable water content,enabling it to adapt to the shape of the wound and insulate it,providing a moist environment suitable for healing.In-vivo skin wound healing results clearly demonstrate that XKP can significantly accelerate the healing of wounds by reducing the inflammatory response and promoting vascular reconstruction.In summary,this strategy provides a simple and practical method to overcome the drawbacks of traditional wound dressings,and provides further options when choosing suitable wound healing materials for clinical applications.Qiankun Zeng Yuna Qian Yijing Huang Feng Ding Xiaoliang Qi Jianliang Shen 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,9:3
8Dark current mechanism of unpassivated mid wavelength type II InAs/GaSb superlattice infrared photodetector显示文摘We investigate the dark current mechanism for an unpassivated mid wavelength(MW) type II InAs/GaSb superlattice infrared photodetector by doing the variablearea diode tests. The bulk resistance-area product and the resistivity due to the surface current are determined to be17.72 X cm2 and 704.23 X cm at 77 K, respectively. It is found that for all the mesa sizes used, the dark current is dominated or predominated by the surface component, and with scaling back the mesa size, the surface current increases while the bulk component decreases. The activation energy is determined to be 145 meV for the temperature range around 140–280 K, while it is 6 meV when temperature is below 100 K. 10Thermal behaviors and growth of reduced ferronickel particles in carbon-laterite composites显示文摘The thermal behaviors of single laterite ore and graphite-laterite mixtures were investigated by thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermo-gravimetry (DTG), and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Four mass loss steps maximized at about 78, 272, 583, and 826°C are observed for the laterite ore, representing the vaporization of free water, the dehydroxylation of goethite, the decomposition of serpentines, and the second dehydroxylation of serpentines, respectively. The reduction reactions of the graphite-laterite mixtures start at around 700°C and can be divided into three major temperature regions. Coal-laterite composites with an addition of 10 wt.% CaO were roasted at 1100-1350°C for 30 min, and the reduced samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indi-cate that the reduction reactions proceed more completely at higher temperatures. The growth of the reduced ferronickel particles is greatly influenced by the roasting temperature. Obvious growth of the reduced ferronickel particles appears with the formation of worm-like crystals for the sample reduced at 1250°C, and spheric particles are observed for the sample reduced at 1300°C. When the reduction temperature in-creases to 1350°C, the reduced ferronickel particles agglomerate to ferronickel granules of 3-8 mm in diameter. 13Analysis and Optimisation of Halomonas Growth Factors Based on PCA and RSM显示文摘The biomass of petroleum-degrading bacteria, such as Halomonas spp., is crucial to the alleviation of severe oil spills through bioremediation. In this paper, the bacterium(HDMP1) was isolated and identified. Growth factors were analysed and optimised through the single-factor experiments, the factor analysis(FA), the principal component analysis(PCA), and the response surface methodology(RSM). Results indicated that HDMP1 was identified as genus Halomonas. In the single-factor experiments, the range of suitable growth conditions for HDMP1 covered: a salt concentration of 2%-4%, a medium pH value of approximately 9, an inoculum concentration of 1.0%, a substrate concentration of 1.0%-1.4%, and a rotation rate of 140 r/min. The evaluation by FA and PCA indicated that three significant growth factors were the salt concentration, the pH value, and the rotation rate. 15A NUMERICAL STUDY OF INDENTATION WITH SMALL SPHERICAL INDENTERS显示文摘The finite element method for the conventional theory of mechanism-based strain gradient plasticity is used to study the indentation size effect. For small indenters (e.g.,radii on the order of 10 μm),the maximum allowable geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density is introduced to cap the GND density such that the latter does not become unrealistically high. The numerical results agree well with the indentation hardness data of iridium. The GND density is much larger than the density of statistically stored dislocations (SSD) underneath the indenter,but this trend reverses away from the indenter. 18The development of perturbation model for fringe field in Open XAL and its application in beam commissioning of CSNS显示文摘Background The China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS)accelerator employs Open XAL as the control software in beam commissioning.The main magnets of CSNS/RCS have serious fringe field effect;however,there is not corresponding model for fringe field in Open XAL.Purpose The purpose is to develop a suitable model for fringe field and append to the online model of Open XAL.Methods On the basis of the requirements of beam commissioning and model features of Open XAL,a perturbation model was developed to correct the effect of fringe field.Results The comparison of the parameters calculated by slice model with the values obtained from Open XAL with perturbation model showed the validity of the model.Furthermore,with the response matrix method,the values obtained from Open XAL with perturbation model were very close to the measured response matrices,which showed the accuracy of the model.Conclusion The perturbation model is effective for correcting the fringe field effect in Open XAL.Xiaohan Lu Jianliang Chen Shouyan Xu Ming-Yang Huang Yuwen An Sheng Wang 2018Radiation Detection Technology and Methods2018,2,2:1
19Treatment of Phenol-Contaminated Soil by Potassium Ferrate Based on pH Control显示文摘This study aims to optimize the treatment of phenol-contaminated soil by potassium ferrate. Variations in pH value can accurately reflect the state and reaction status of the entire treatment process. Therefore, the pH value could be an important variable for optimizing the reaction conditions and achieving the automatic control of the process. About 99.89% of phenol was removed after 10 min of the pH-controlled reaction at a rotational speed of 40―70 r/min, with the initial phenol concentration equating to 10.0 g/kg and the total water consumption reaching 2.72 L(at a soil/water ratio of 1:0.68).
