| 1 | Soil microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen in forest ecosystems of Northeast China:a comparison between natural secondary forest and larch plantation显示文摘Aims Natural secondary forest(NSF)and larch plantation are two of the predominant forest types in Northeast China.However,how the two types of forests compare in sustaining soil quality is not well understood.This study was conducted to determine how natural secondary forest and larch plantation would differ in soil microbial biomass and soil organic matter quality.Methods Microbial biomass carbon(MBC),microbial biomass nitrogen(MBN),soil organic carbon(SOC)and total nitrogen(TN)in the 0-to 15-cm and 15-to 30-cm soil layers were investigated by making chemical and biological measurements in the montane region of eastern Liaoning Province,Northeast China,during the growing season of 2008 in stands of NSF and Larix olgensis plantation(LOP).Important Findings We found that soil MBC and MBN were significantly lower in the LOP than in the NSF.Both MBC and MBN declined significantly with increasing soil depth in the two types of stands.The ratios of MBC to SOC(MBC/SOC)and MBN to TN(MBN/TN)were also significantly lower in the LOP than in the NSF.Moreover,the values of MBC,MBC/SOC,and MBN/TN significantly varied with time and followed a similar pattern during the growing season,all with an apparent peak in summer.Our results indicate that NSF is better in sustaining soil microbial biomass and nutrients than larch plantation in the temperate Northeast China.This calls for cautions in large-scale conversions of the native forests to coniferous plantations as a forest management practice on concerns of sustaining soil productivity. | Kai Yang Jiaojun Zhu Min Zhang Qiaoling Yan Osbert Jianxin Sun | 2010 | Journal of Plant Ecology2010,3,3: | 44 |
| 2 | Genetic analysis of 'all-fish' growth hormone gene transferred carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and its F_1 generation显示文摘Recornbinant 'all-fish' growth hormone gene (GH) was microinjected into the fertilized eggs of carp. A comparison between the growth traits of transgenics and non-transgenics was carried out, and the transgenic individuals with significant 'fast-growing' effect were successfully gained. A comparison on the reproductivities was also given out between the transgenics and their non-transgenic siblings, and showed that the reproductive capacity of transgenics was substantially equivalent to those of the non-transgenics. On the other hand, the genetic separation and the characteristic distribution of the FI generation were genetically analyzed, which gave solid evidence for the hypothesis that 2-3 chromosomes are integrated with trans-gene. In addition, the distinct biological effects for multi-site-integrated transgenes were further discussed. | 4 | Targets and molecular mechanisms of triptolide in cancer therapy显示文摘Triptolide(TPL/TL) is a natural drug with novel anticancer effects. Preclinical studies indicated that TPL inhibits cell proliferation, induces cell apoptosis, inhibits tumor metastasis and enhances the effect of other therapeutic methods in various cancer cell lines. Multiple molecules and signaling pathways, such as caspases, heat-shock proteins, NF-κB, and deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) repair-associated factors, are associated with the anti-cancer effect. TPL also improves chemoradiosensitivity in cancer therapy. Phase I trials indicate the potential clinical value of TPL use. | 5 | Constitutive relationship of IN690 superalloy by using uniaxial compression tests显示文摘The hot deformation behavior of IN690 superalloy was characterized in a temperature range of 1273-1473 K and a strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1 using uniaxial compression tests on process annealed material.The constitutive relations between flow stress and effective strain,effective strain rate as well as deformation temperature were studied.It can be concluded that the flow stress significantly reduces with the deformation temperature of IN690 superalloy increasing.Whereas,there is a significant increase of flow stress when the strain rate increases from 0.1 s-1 to 10 s-1.Based on the hyperbolic-sine Arrhenius-type equation,a constitutive equation considering compensation of strain was developed.The activation energy and the material constants(Q,n and ln A) decrease as the deformation strain increases.The strain dependent term is successfully incorporated in the constitutive equation through a quartic equation.A good agreement between the experimental data and the predicted results has been achieved,indicating that the proposed constitutive equation and the methods of determing the material constants are suitable to model the high temperature deformation behavior of IN690 superalloy. | SUN Chaoyang LIU Jinrong LI Rui ZHANG Qingdong DONG Jianxin | 2011 | Rare Metals2011,30,1: | 11 |
| 6 | Contrasting responses of net primary productivity to inter-annual variability and changes of climate among three forest types in northern China显示文摘Aims A lack of explicit information on differential controls on net primary productivity(NPP)across regions and ecosystem types is largely responsible for uncertainties in global trajectories of terrestrial carbon balance with changing environment.The objectives of this study were to determine how NPP of different forest types would respond to inter-annual variability of climate and to examine the responses of NPP to future climate change scenarios across contrasting forest types in northern China.Methods We investigated inter-annual variations of NPP in relation to climate variability across three forest types in northern China,including a boreal forest dominated by Larix gmelinii Rupr.,and two temperate forests dominated by Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.and Quercus wutaishanica Mayr.,respectively,and studied the responses of NPP in these forests to predicted changes in climate for the periods 2011–40,2041–70 and 2070–100 under carbon emission scenarios A2 and B2 of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.We simulated the responses of NPP to predicted changes in future climate as well as inter-annual variability of the present climate with the Biome-BGC version 4.2 based on site-and species-specific parameters.The modeled forest NPP data were validated against values in literature for similar types of forests and compared with inter-annual growth variations reflected by tree-ring width index(RWI)at the study sites.Important Findings Inter-annual variations in modeled NPP during the period 1960–06 were mostly consistent with the temporal patterns in RWI.There were contrasting responses of modeled NPP among the three forest types to inter-annual variability of the present climate as well as to predicted changes in future climate.The modeled NPP was positively related to annual mean air temperature in the L.gmelinii forest(P<0.001),but negatively in the P.tabulaeformis forest(P=0.05)and the Q.wutaishanica forest(P=0.03),while the relationships of modeled NPP with annual precipitation for the three forest types were all positive.Multiple stepwise regression analyses showed that temperature was a more important constraint of NPP than precipitation in the L.gmelinii forest,whereas precipitation appeared to be a prominent factor limiting the growth in P.tabulaeformis and Q.wutaishanica.Model simulations suggest marked,but differential increases in NPP across the three forest types with predicted changes in future climate. | Shuai Ouyang Xiangping Wang Yulian Wu Osbert Jianxin Sun | 2014 | Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,3: | 9 |

The important parameters,such as the variety of ionic liquids,molar ratio of [Bmim]X to [Bmim]OH,amount of ionic liquid,molar ratio of water to ethylene carbonate,reaction tem-perature,pressure and reaction time,were investigated systematically. Excellent yield(>93%) and high selectivity(99.5%) of ethylene glycol were achieved. | 11 | Structure of the Upper Mantle and Transition Zone Beneath the South China Block Imaged by Finite Frequency Tomography显示文摘We applied the finite frequency tomography method to S wave data recorded by 350 broadband stations beneath the South China Block(SCB) and its surroundings from earthquakes occurring between July 2007 and July 2010,to better understand upper mantle deformation.Differential travel-times in the pair of stations with appropriate weighting for each station are used in the inversion.Our results are consistent with previous tomography that show a high velocity anomaly beneath the Sichuan basin and a high velocity anomaly in the transition zone beneath the Yangtze Craton.However,the resolution of mantle heterogeneity provides new insight into the tectonic framework of subduction of Burmese lithosphere in the west part of the study region and subduction of oceanic lithosphere in the east.In the subduction realm,west of 107°E,a significant fast S-wave anomaly is located on the southeast of Sichuan Basin.East of 107°E,and two narrow and discontinuous fast S-wave anomalies occur at a depth of 400-600 km beneath the middle of the South China block overlain by the pronounced low S-wave anomalies at a depth of 100 and 400 km.If the fast anomalies located in the mantle transition zone represent stagnant slabs,their fragmented nature may suggest that they could be produced by different episodes of subduction beneath western Pacific island and the above slow velocity anomaly may associated with the back-arc regions of ongoing subduction.In addition,tomography also reveals an anomalously high S-wave velocity continental root extends eastward to a depth 400 km beneath the eastern Sichuan Basin.This anomaly may be related to eastern extrusion of Indian lithosphere associated with the collision of India and Eurasia.Moreover,our results also show large slow anomalies beneath the Red River fault region connected to deeper anomalies beneath the South China Fold Belt and South China Sea.AH these observations are consistent with the scenario that the South China block has been built by both of subduction of Paleopacific plate and eastward subduction of Burma microplate. | SUN Ya LIU Jianxin TANG Youcai CHEN Jiawei ZHOU Keping CHEN Bo | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,5: | 8 |

| 14 | Distribution and Ecological Risk Assessment of HCHs and DDTs in Surface Seawater and Sediment of the Mariculture Area of Jincheng Bay,China显示文摘The distribution of hexachlorocyclohexanes(HCHs) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes(DDTs) in the surface seawater and sediment of Jincheng Bay mariculture area were investigated in the present study. The concentration of total HCHs and DDTs ranged from 2.98 to 14.87 ng L-1 and were < 0.032 ng L-1, respectively, in surface seawater, and ranged from 5.52 to 9.43 and from 4.11 to 6.72 ng g-1, respectively, in surface sediment. It was deduced from the composition profile of HCH isomers and DDT congeners that HCH residues derived from a mixture of technical-grade HCH and lindane whereas the DDT residues derived from technical-grade DDT and dicofol. Moreover, both HCH and DDT residues may mainly originate from historical inputs. The hazard quotient of α-HCH, β-HCH, γ-HCH and δ-HCH to marine species was 0.030, 0.157, 3.008 and 0.008, respectively. It was estimated that the overall probability of adverse biological effect from HCHs was less than 5%, indicating that its risk to seawater column species was low. The threshold effect concentration exceeding frequency of γ-HCH, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDE and p,p'-DDT in sediment ranged from 8.3% to 100%, and the relative concentration of the HCH and DDT mixture exceeded their probable effect level in sediment. | 15 | Effects of Sini San used alone and in combination with fluoxetine on central and peripheral 5-HT levels in a rat model of depression显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Sini San and fluoxetine on the levels of central and peripheral 5-HT in a rat model of depression, and provide new insight into the treatment of depression with integrated Chinese-Western Medicine.METHODS: A rat model of depression was established by chronic mild stress(CMS). Model rats received either Sini San, fluoxetine, a combination of the two drugs, or no drug treatment. Healthy naive rats were used as controls. Open field and sucrose preference tests were used to assess depression-like behavior. ELISA and immunohistochemistry were used to determine central and peripheral levels of 5-HT.RESULTS: In the group with no drug treatment,central 5-HT expression decreased while peripheral5-HT concentrations increased as CMS continued.Four weeks after CMS, Sini San alone was less effective in reducing depression-like behavior than fluoxetine alone or in combination with Sini San,but combined use was more effective than fluoxetine alone. Eight weeks after CMS, Sini San alone or in combination with fluoxetine was more effective in reducing depression-like behavior than fluoxetine alone. Furthermore Sini San and fluoxetine used alone or in combination notably increased central 5-HT expression and decreased peripheral 5-HT levels in the rat model.CONCLUSION:The results of the present study indicate that there is a synergistic action between the two medicines in the treatment of depression. Sini San exhibited a relatively long lag before its effects were observed; however, by eight weeks the Traditional Chinese Medicine appeared at least as effective as fluoxetine. | 17 | Variations in leaf litter decomposition across contrasting forest stands and controlling factors at local scale显示文摘Aims litter decomposition is a critical pathway linking the above-and belowground processes.However,factors underlying the local spatial variations in forest litter decomposition are still not fully addressed.We investigated leaf litter decomposition across con-trasting forest stands in central China,with objective to determine the spatial variations and controlling factors in forest floor leaf lit-ter decomposition in relation to changes in forest stands in a tem-perate forest ecosystem.Methods leaf litter decomposition was studied by using litterbag method across several typical forest stand types in baotianman Nature reserve,central China,including pure stands of Quercus aliena var.acuteserrata,Q.glandulifera var.brevipetiolata and Q.vari-abilis,respectively,and mixed pine/oak stands dominated by Pinus armandii and Q.aliena var.acuteserrata,as well as stands of pure Q.aliena var.acuteserrata trees ranging in stand age from~40 to>160 years.measurements were made on litter mass remaining and changes in litter chemistry during decomposition over a 2-year period,along with data collections on selective biotic and environmental factors.a reciprocal transplant experiment involv-ing Q.aliena var.acuteserrata and Q.variabilis was concurrently carried out to test the occurrence of‘home-field advantage(HFa)’in local forests when only considering contrasting oak tree spe-cies.Correlation analyses and path analyses were performed to identify the dominant drivers and their relative contributions to variations in leaf litter decomposition.Important findingssignificant variations were found in the rate of leaf litter decomposi-tion among stands of different tree species but not among stand age classes.The values of decay constant,k,varied from 0.62 in Q.aliena var.acuteserrata stands to 0.56 in Q.variabilis stands.The reciprocal litter transplant experiment showed that the rate of leaf litter decom-position was on average 5%slower in home-fields than on recipro-cal sites.Path analysis identified litter acid-unhydrolyzable residue(AUR)to N ratio,soil microbial biomass carbon(MBC),soil pH and soil organic carbon(SOC)as most prominent factors controlling the rate of leaf litter decomposition,collectively accounting for 57.8%of the variations;AUR/N had the greatest negative effect on k value,followed by weaker positive effects of SOC and MBC.our findings suggest that tree species plays a primary role in affecting forest floor leaf litter decomposition by determining the litter quality,with site environment being a secondary factor contributing to the local vari-ations in leaf litter decomposition in this temperate forest ecosystem. | Juan Wang Yeming You Zuoxin Tang Shirong Liu Osbert Jianxin Sun | 2015 | Journal of Plant Ecology2015,8,3: | 6 |
| 18 | Two optimization algorithms for solving robotics inverse kinematics with redundancy显示文摘The kinematic redundancy in a robot leads to an infinite number of solutions for inverse kinematics, which implies the possibility to select a 'best' solution according to an optimization criterion. In this paper, two optimization objective functions are proposed, aiming at either minimizing extra degrees of freedom (DOFs) or minimizing the total potential energy of a multilink redundant robot. Physical constraints of either equality or inequality types are taken into consideration in the objective functions. Since the closed-form solutions do not exist in general for highly nonlinear and constrained optimization problems, we adopt and develop two numerical methods, which are verified to be effective and precise in solving the two optimization problems associated with the redundant inverse kinematics. We first verify that the well established trajectory following method can precisely solve the two optimization problems, but is computation intensive. To reduce the computation time, a sequential approach that combines the sequential quadratic programming and iterative Newton-Raphson algorithm is developed. | 19 | Tat-functionalized Ag-Fe_3O_4 nano-composites as tissue-penetrating vehicles for tumor magnetic targeting and drug delivery显示文摘In this paper, we prepared a dual functional system based on dextrin-coated silver nanoparticles which were further attached with iron oxide nanoparticles and cell penetrating peptide(Tat), producing Tat-modified Ag-Fe_3O_4 nanocomposites(Tat-FeAgNPs). To load drugs, an –SH containing linker, 3-mercaptopropanohydrazide, was designed and synthesized. It enabled the silver carriers to load and release doxorubicin(Dox) in a pH-sensitive pattern. The delivery efficiency of this system was assessed in vitro using MCF-7 cells, and in vivo using null BalB/c mice bearing MCF-7 xenograft tumors. Our results demonstrated that both Tat and externally applied magnetic field could promote cellular uptake and consequently the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles,with the IC_(50) of Tat-FeAgNP-Dox to be 0.63 mmol/L. | 20 | Application of two remote sensing GPP algorithms at a semiarid grassland site of North China显示文摘Estimation of gross primary production(GPP)from remote sensing data is an important approach to study regional or global carbon cycle.However,for a given algorithm,it usually has its limitation on applications to a wide range of vegetation types and/or under diverse environmental conditions.This study was conducted to compare the performance of two remote sensing GPP algorithms,the MODIS GPP and the vegetation photosynthesis model(VPM),in a semiarid temperate grassland ecosystem.Methods The study was conducted at a typical grassland site in Ujimuqin of Inner Mongolia,North China,over 2 years in 2006 and 2007.Environmental controls on GPP measured by the eddy covariance(EC)technique at the study site were first investigated with path analysis of meteorological and soil moisture data at a daily and 8-day time steps.The estimates of GPP derived from the MODIS GPP and the VPM with site-specific inputs were then compared with the values of EC measurements as ground truthing at the site.Site-specific emax(a)was estimated by using rectangular hyperbola function based on the 7-day flux data at 30-min intervals over the peak period of the growing season(May to September).Important Findings Between the two remote sensing GPP algorithms and various estimates of the fraction of absorbed photosynthetic active radiation(FPAR),the VPM based on FPAR derived from the enhanced vegetation index(EVI)works the best in predicting GPP against the ground truthing of EC GPP.A path analysis indicates that the EC GPP in this semiarid temperate grassland ecosystem is controlled predominantly by both soil water and temperature.The site water condition is slightly better simulated by the moisture multiplier in the VPM than in the MODIS GPP algorithm,which is a most probable explanation for a better performance of the VPM than MODIS GPP algorithm in this semiarid grassland ecosystem. | Jianfeng Liu Osbert Jianxin Sun Hongmei Jin Zhiyong Zhou Xingguo Han | 2011 | Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4: | 5 |
