| 1 | Occurrence of perfluoroalkyl substances in matched human serum,urine,hair and nail显示文摘The purpose of this study was to determine perfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs) in human serum, urine, hair and nail from general populations, and to investigate the possibility for human urine, hair and nail used as the biomonitoring sample for PFASs exposure. We detected the concentrations of PFHx A, PFOA, PFNA, PFDA, PFUn DA, PFDo A, PFHx S and PFOS in 39 matched human serum, urine, hair and nail samples from Shenzhen in China. The detection frequency and the median level of PFOS were all higher than that of the other PFASs in four matrices. The median concentration of PFOS in serum, urine, hair, and nail were 9.24 ng/mL, 13.96 ng/L, 0.58 ng/g and 0.63 ng/g, respectively. | 2 | A holistic strategy for quality and safety control of traditional Chinese medicines by the “iVarious” standard system显示文摘An effective quality control system is the key to ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of traditional Chinese medicines(TCMs). However, the current quality standard research lacks top-level design and systematic design,mostly based on specific technologies or evaluation methods. To resolve the challenges and questions of quality control of TCMs, a brand-new quality standard system, named 'iVarious', was proposed. The system comprises eight elements in a modular format. Meaning of every element was specifically illustrated via corresponding research instances. Furthermore, frankincense study was taken as an example for demonstrating standards and research process, based on the 'i Various' system. This system highlighted a holistic strategy for effectiveness,security, integrity and systematization of quality and safety control standards of TCMs. The establishment of'i Various' integrates multi-disciplinary technologies and progressive methods, basis elements and key points of standard construction. | 3 | Association of serum levels of perfluoroalkyl substances with gestational diabetes mellitus and postpartum blood glucose显示文摘This study was conducted to examine the association of perfluoroalkyl substance(PFAS)exposure with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) risk and postpartum fasting blood glucose.We used a 1:2 matched case–control study with 84 GDM subjects and 168 healthy pregnant women from Beijing, China. The maternal blood was collected at 1–2 days before delivery, and eight linear isomers and fourteen branched isomers were determined in maternal serum.Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations after adjusting for potential confounders. The median of the sum of levels of total PFASs was 4.24 ng/m L with a interquartile range(IQR) of 2.82–6.54 ng/m L. Although maternal PFAS exposure was not associated with risk of GDM, significant positive associations were observed between evaluated exposure to specific PFAS congeners and increasing blood glucose. | 4 | Ecological adaptation strategies of annual plants in artificial vegetation-stabilized sand dune in Shapotou Region显示文摘Taking annual plant Eragrostis poaeides in the artificial vegetation-stabilized sand dune in the Shapotou Experimental Research Station as example, study has been done on the adaptation strategies of annual plants to random environment through fixed quadrat observations of population changes and fixed plant determinations of individual growth, seed germination,population dynamics, spatial distribution pattern of population, competition and regulation. During the growing season, the survival rate of annual plants depends on the precipitation intensity and precipitation duration which activate the germination of seeds. The optimal germination strategy of annual plants in this habitat during the growing season appears as continuous germination under suitable conditions. Such continuous germination is an adaptive characteristic of annual plants to random environment. In addition, the variation processes of population size and regulation mechanism of E. poaeoides are studied. Statistical results of natural population in four consecutive years show that water condition in the habitat is the leading factor affecting the population dynamics of E. poaeoides. During the establishment period E. poaeoides had a higher death rate, but in the middle to later period they could survive stably. Due to the limitation of soil moisture, the competition among individuals for water inevitably led to self-thinning phenomena. Under very arid condition, the survival curve of annual herbs entirely appears as Deevey Ⅲ type (C type), but under relatively adequate precipitation condition, the survival curve appears as intermediate type. The strategy of life history obviously appears as r-strategy. Plant species of r-strategy often occurs in the early succession stage of the communities. In the relatively adequate and evenly-distributed rainfall years, E. poaeoides population exhibited a density-dependent, i. e., survival rate increased with decrease in population density. | 5 | Indoor decorating and refurbishing materials and furniture volatile organic compounds emission labeling systems:A review显示文摘The volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted from indoor decorating and refurbishing materials and furniture is recognized as one of the main causes of bad indoor air quality,which has resulted in serious economic losses.In European countries and the U.S.,labeling systems for indoor decorating and refurbishing materials and furniture were established to address this issue with good effect.This paper is a review of these existing labeling systems.The basic principle of the labeling systems is introduced.The technical,policy and operational parts of the labeling systems are then discussed.The research concentrates on target pollutants,their threshold values and the testing methods employed.Some problems were uncovered in these labeling systems:too many VOCs were targeted;the method to determine the threshold values was not very rigorous;the testing time was too long (7-28 d).Some China's special features in developing such system are stated.Therefore,as the world's largest national producer and consumer of wood based panels and furniture,China should learn from foreign experience of establishing labeling systems as much as it can.However China should not simply copy the foreign approaches but develop its own scientific labeling system for indoor decorating and refurbishing materials and furniture. | LIU WeiWei ZHANG YinPing YAO Yuan LI JingGuang | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,20: | 7 |
| 6 | Particle-bound PCDD/Fs in the Atmosphere of an Electronic Waste Dismantling Area in China显示文摘Objective Particulate samples from the atmosphere in an electronic waste dismantling area were collected to investigate the levels and sources of polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). Methods Particulate samples including total suspended particulates (TSP) and particulate matter <2.5 μm diameter (PM2.5) were collected on selected non‐rainy days in summer (Jul 10-12, 2006) and winter (Jan 11-13, 2007) from Fengjiang (FJ), an electronic waste (e‐waste) dismantling area in eastern China, and an adjacent area Luqiao (LQ). The samples were analyzed by isotope dilution ‐ high resolution gas chromatography / high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). Results In FJ, the mean PCDD/F concentrations (mean TEQ values) were 280.6 pg Nm‐3 (3.432 pg WHO‐TEQ Nm‐3) for the TSP samples and 223.3 pg Nm‐3 (3.180 pg WHO‐TEQ Nm‐3) for the PM2.5 samples. The total PCDD/F concentrations and TEQs in the PM2.5 samples were about 66.8%‐108.0% of the TSP samples, indicating that the fine particles contained higher levels of PCDD/Fs than coarse particles. The PCDD/F levels in FJ were much higher than those detected in common urban areas around the world, suggesting that the study area was heavily polluted by PCDD/Fs. Furthermore, the total average daily PCDD/F intake in FJ was estimated at 62.11 pg WHO‐TEQ kg‐1·day‐1 for adults and 110.11 pg WHO‐TEQ kg‐1·day‐1 for children, which greatly exceeds the WHO (1998) tolerable daily intake of 1-4 pg of WHO‐TEQ kg‐1·day‐1. Conclusion The PCDD/F homologues and congener profiles confirmed that the PCDD/Fs in FJ originated from crude e‐waste recycling activities. The severe dioxin pollution present in FJ has also substantially influenced the adjacent area of LQ through atmospheric transport. | 10 | Functional genomic studies on an immune-and antiviral-related gene of MyD88 in orange-spotted grouper,Epinephelus coioides显示文摘Myeloid differentiation factor 88(MyD88) is a universal adaptor protein involved in Toll-like receptors and in interleukin-1 receptor-induced nuclear factor-kappaB(NF-κB) activation.In this study,a new MyD88 gene(designated as Og-MyD88) was cloned from orange-spotted grouper,Epinephelus coioides,based on the expressed sequence tag(EST) obtained following Roche 454 GS-FLX sequencing.The full-length Og-MyD88 cDNA is composed of 1682 bp and encodes a deduced polypeptide of 289 amino acids with 86% homology to MyD88 of Siniperca chuatsi.The deduced amino acid sequence of Og-MyD88 contains a typical death domain at the amino terminus and a conserved Toll/IL-1R(TIR) domain at the carboxyl terminus,as well as three highly conserved motifs(Box1,Box2 and Box3) within the C-terminal TIR domain.In healthy fish,Og-MyD88 was found to be strongly expressed in immune-related tissues,including the spleen,head kidney,kidney,liver,skin and intestine,with lower expression in heart,stomach,brain and muscle.Transcripts of Og-MyD88 were found to be markedly up-regulated in fish spleen after challenge with Singapore grouper iridovirus(SGIV),a highly lethal viral pathogen to grouper fish.Furthermore,the full length Og-MyD88 and its N-terminal death domain were capable of inducing NF-κB activity in HEK-293 cells.Overexpressed Og-MyD88 showed the ability to inhibit replication of SGIV in grouper spleen(GS) cells.These results suggest that Og-MyD88 is involved in the grouper immune response to invasion of viral pathogens and may share similar functions to those observed in higher vertebrates. | YAN Yang CUI HuaChun WEI JingGuang HUANG YouHua HUANG XiaoHong QIN QiWei | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,25: | 2 |

| 12 | Rice Heavy Metal P-type ATPase OsHMA6 Is Likely a Copper Efflux Protein显示文摘P1B-type heavy metal ATPases(HMAs)are transmembrane metal-transporting proteins that play a key role in metal homeostasis.We here reported the characterization of rice OsHMA6,a member of the P1B-type ATPase family.Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that OsHMA6 belonged to the Cu/Ag subgroup of the HMA family and had a close evolutionary relationship with OsHMA9.Amino acid sequence alignment showed 82.78%consistency between OsHMA6 and OsHMA9.OsHMA6 expressed in all organs at different growth stages,including spikelet,and abundant in leaf blades,however,OsHMA9 most strongly expressed in roots,but very low in spikelet.Excessive Cu^2+can up-regulate the expression of OsHMA6 and OsHMA9 in rice seedlings.The heterologous expression in yeast showed that OsHMA6 can significantly rescue the growth of yeast strain CM52 when supplied with 3 or 6 mmol/L Cu^2+.Compared with the empty vector pYES2,the Cu concentration in OsHMA6-pYES2 decreased by 23.4%and 30.3%under 3 or 6 mmol/L Cu2+,respectively.Subcellular localization revealed that OsHMA6 was located in the plasma membrane.These results suggested that OsHMA6,similar to OsHMA9,is likely a copper efflux protein located in the plasma membrane. | ZOU Wenli LI Chang ZHU Yajun CHEN Jingguang HE Haohua YE Guoyou | 2020 | Rice science2020,27,2: | 2 |
