1The characteristic differences of tropical cyclones forming over the western North Pacific and the South China Sea显示文摘The best track dataset of tropical cyclones in the western North Pacific (WNP) and the South China Sea (SCS) from 1977 to 2005 during the satellite era, the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis dataset and the extended reconstructed sea surface temperature dataset are employed in this study. The main climatological characteristics of tropical cyclone formation over the WNP and the SCS are compared. It is found that there is obviously different for the locations of tropical cyclone origins, achieving the lowest central pressure and termination points between over the WNP and over the SCS. The annual number of tropical cyclones forming over the SCS is obviously less than over the WNP, and there is a significant negative correlation with the correlation coefficient being -0.36 at the 5% significance level between over the WNP and over the SCS. The mean speed of tropical cyclone moving is 6.5 m /s over the WNP and 4.6 m /s over the SCS. The mean lowest central pressure of tropical cyclones is obviously weaker over the SCS than over the WNP. The tropical cyclone days per year, mean total distance and total displacement of tropical cyclone traveled over the WNP are all obviously longer than those over the SCS. Tropical cyclone may intensify to Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale 5 over the WNP, but no tropical cyclone can intensify to Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale 3 over the SCS. The changing ranges of the radii(R15,R16) of the 15.4 m /s winds them and the 25.7 m /s winds over the WNP are obviously wider than those over the SCS, and the median values of the radii over the WNP are also larger than those over the SCS. For the same intensity of tropical cyclones, both radii have larger medians over the WNP than over the SCS. The correlations of annual mean tropical cyclone size parameters between over the WNP and over the SCS are not significant. 2Ecological evolution across the Permian/Triassic boundary at the Kangjiaping Section in Cili County, Hunan Province, China显示文摘The stratigraphic sequence of calcimicrobialite facies at the Permian-Triassic (P/Tr) boundary has well recorded the biotic and environmental transition across the end-Permian catastrophic events. The biostratigraphy, microfacies, carbon isotopes, and fossil records across the P/Tr boundary have been studied at the Kangjiaping Section in Cili County, Hunan Province. Three biostratigraphic zones, Palaeofusulina-Colaniella Zone, Hindeodus parvus Zone, and Isarcicella staeschei Zone, are identified. The excursion of δ13Ccarb exhibits a sharp negative shift in the calcimicrobialite at the P/Tr boundary, which is roughly accordant with the abrupt bioclastic decline. In addition, five types of microfacies are recognized, including algal-foraminifer bioclastic limestone, algal-laminated calcimicrobial limestone, oolitic grainstone, vermiculate limestone, and intraclastic wackstone. 3Carbon dioxide emissions from cities in China based on high resolution emission gridded data显示文摘Based on the China high resolution emission gridded data(1 km spatial resolution), this article is aimed to create a Chinese city carbon dioxide(CO_2) emission data set using consolidated data sources as well as normalized and standardized data processing methods. Standard methods were used to calculate city CO_2 emissions, including scope 1 and scope 2. Cities with higher CO_2 emissions are mostly in north, northeast, and eastern coastal areas. Cities with lower CO_2 emissions are in the western region. Cites with higher CO_2 emissions are clustered in the Jing-Jin-Ji Region(such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Tangshan), and the Yangtze River Delta region(such as Shanghai and Suzhou).The city per capita CO_2 emission is larger in the north than the south. There are obvious aggregations of cities with high per capita CO_2 emission in the north. Four cities among the top 10 per capita emissions(Erdos, Wuhai, Shizuishan, and Yinchuan) cluster in the main coal production areas of northern China. This indicates the significant impact of coal resources endowment on city industry and CO_2 emissions. The majority(77%) of cities have annual CO_2 emissions below 50 million tons. The mean annual emission, among all cities, is 37 million tons. Emissions from service-based cities, which include the smallest number of cities, are the highest. Industrial cities are the largest category and the emission distribution from these cities is close to the normal distribution. Emissions and degree of dispersion, in the other cities(excluding industrial cities and service-based cities), are in the lowest level. Per capita C02 emissions in these cities are generally below 20 t/person(89%) with a mean value of 11 t/person. The distribution interval of per capita CO_2 emission within industrial cities is the largest among the three city categories. This indicates greater differences among per capita CO_2 emissions of industrial cities. The distribution interval of per capita CO_2 emission of other cities is the lowest, indicating smaller differences of per capita CO_2 emissions among this city category. Three policy suggestions are proposed: first, city CO_2 emission inventory data in China should be increased,especially for prefecture level cities. Second, city responsibility for emission reduction, and partitioning the national goal should be established, using a bottom-up approach based on specific CO_2emission levels and potential for emission reductions in each city. 4Surveillance of Noise Exposure Level in the Manufacturing Industry—China,2020显示文摘Introduction:Occupational noise exposure is a widespread issue in the manufacturing industry in China.Since 2019,the National Surveillance System for Occupational Hazards in the workplace was established to understand different occupational hazards,especially occupational noise,in workplaces in China.Methods:Both environmental and individual noise exposure levels were measured for 19,378 enterprises according to the Work Plan for Surveillance of Occupational Hazards in the Workplace(2020)issued by National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China.Median and interquartile range(IQR)were calculated to describe the distribution of the noise exposure level by industry classification,enterprise-scale,and ownership type of the enterprise.Results:Overall,25.14%of the individual noise exposure samples exceeded the Chinese national standard among the selected enterprises.The overall median of environmental noise exposure level was 82.8 dB(A)in selected enterprises,while the median of individual noise exposure level was 81.3 dB(A).The individual noise exposure level in the manufacture of metal products,manufacture of motor vehicles,minisized enterprises,collective enterprises and private enterprises was relatively high.Conclusion:Occupational noise is still one of the occupational hazards that cannot be ignored in the manufacturing industry,especially in mini-sized and private enterprises.The risk of noise exposure in the target industry is still high and will pose a threat to the health of workers.Jinnan Zheng Siyu Zhang Hongfei Wang Yue Yu Weijiang Hu 2021China CDC weekly2021,3,43:9
5Quantitative standard of eco-compensation for the water source area in the middle route of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project in China显示文摘The Middle Route Project(MRP)of the Southto-North Water Transfer Scheme(SNWT)in China will require a very large financial expenditure to ensure the water supply and the associated water quality to northern China.An eco-compensation mechanism between the water service source areas and its beneficiaries is essential.This paper establishes an analytic framework of ecocompensation standard for the protection of the water source area,including both the calculation of ecocompensation based on opportunity cost method(OCM)and calculation of the burden sharing of eco-compensation between the water source area and the external water reception area based on the deviation square method(DSM).Taking Shiyan City,Hubei Province in China as a case study,our results show that the eco-compensation in the first-phase of MRP for the water source area in Shiyan,Hubei Province should be 1.63×10^(10) CNY,about four times of planned eco-construction investment budget(4.33×10^(9) CNY).In addition,the burden sharing of eco-compensation varied greatly in terms of different methods.It would be better to integrate the results of different single-factor burden sharing methods by determining the corresponding weighting coefficient with DSM and form one unanimous consent result by the interested parties.Zhanfeng DONG Jinnan WANG 2011Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2011,5,3:7
6Policy and Practice Progress of Watershed Eco-compensation in China显示文摘The ecological protection of the watersheds in China is being confronted with a lot of problems such as soil and water erosion, water pollution at present. Therefore watershed eco-compensation is becoming a question of common interest. Based on the analyses of the major problems and their origins in the watershed protection in China, the paper discusses the concerned policies including relative rules and laws, financial policies and water right transaction policies. Simultaneously the paper reviews the practices carried out in China, including the ecological construction project in the western China, the trans-provincial eco-compensation practice and the small watershed eco-compensation practice. 7A novel aminated polymeric adsorbent for removing refractory dissolved organic matter from landfill leachate treatment plant显示文摘Refractory dissolved organic matter (DOM) from landfill leachate treatment plant was with high dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content. An aminated polymeric adsorbent NDA-8 with tertiary amino groups and sufficient mesopore was synthesized, which exhibited high adsorption capacity to the DOM (raw water after coagulation). Resin NDA-8 performed better in the uptake of the DOM than resin DAX-8 and A100. Electrostatic attraction was considered as the decisive interaction between the adsorbent and adsorbate. Special attention was paid to the correlation between porous structure and adsorption capacity. The mesopore of NDA-8 played a crucial role during uptake of the DOM. In general, resin in chloride form performed a higher removal rate of DOC. 8The microfacies and sedimentary responses to the mass extinction during the Permian-Triassic transition at Yangou Section, Jiangxi Province, South China显示文摘A Permian-Triassic(P-Tr) boundary section of continuous carbonate facies, which well recorded the biotic and environmental processes through the great P-Tr transition in the shallow non-microbialite carbonate facies, has been studied in Yangou, Leping County, Jiangxi Province. The P-Tr sequence is well correlated with the Meishan section according to the conodont biostratigraphy and the excursion of carbon isotopes. A series of high-resolution thin-sections from the P-Tr boundary carbonate rocks at the Yangou section are studied to explore the interrelation between environmental change and biological evolution during the transitional time. Six microfacies have been identified based upon the observation of the thin-sections under a microscope on the grains and matrix and their interrelation. Combined with the data of fossils and carbon isotopes, Microfacies 4(MF-4), coated-grain-bearing foraminifer oolitic sparitic limestone, and Microfacies 6(MF-6), dark shelly micritic limestone, should be the different responses to the two episodes of mass extinction and environmental events that can be correlated throughout South China and even over the world. The oolitic limestone of MF-4 is the first finding from the latest Permian strata in South China and it might be a proxy of an unusual environmental condition of high pCO2, low sulfate concentration and of microbial blooming in the aftermath of the latest Permian mass extinction. The micritic limestone of MF-6 containing rich micro-gastropods and ostracods probably represents the blooming event of disaster taxa in the earliest Triassic environment. 10China's Total Emission Control Policy:a Critical Review显示文摘As part of a comprehensive environmental management system, many countries establish emission control targets for mass emissions of a pollutant. Such targets are often the key objective of an environmental policy, such as an emission trading program. In China, however, it is more than just an objective of one particular policy; it has become a concept that has influenced many national environmental policies and activities. The objective of this article is to review the implementation of the total emission control policy in the past 10 years and explore emerging issues in its implementation. 11Cost-benefit analysis of China’s Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control显示文摘China’s rapid economic growth has caused severe air pollution and public health problems.Therefore,the Chinese government launched the Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control(hereinafter referred to as the“Air Plan”)in 2013-2017 to improve air quality and safeguard public health.In this study,an analytical framework for a cost-benefit analysis applicable to China was constructed,and the costs and benefits of the implementation of the“Air Plan”in 30 cities and provinces in China from 2013 to 2017 were evaluated.Results show that the total cost of implementation of the“Air Plan”is 1.6511 trillion RMB.The benefits of air quality improvement were determined to be 2.4691 trillion RMB through the willingness-to-pay method to calculate the economic loss of premature deaths.The net benefit related to the implementation of the“Air Plan”was 818 billion RMB.The public health benefit of air quality improvement was 1.5 times the cost of the nationwide implementation of the“Air Plan”.At the provincial level,net benefits that reach 279.3 billion RMB were the highest in Guangdong,whereas the benefit-cost ratio,where the benefit was 5.5 times the cost,was the highest in Fujian.Estimations in this study can serve as a reference for China in formulating similar environmental policies and implementing the “3-year Plan to Defend the Blue Sky”.In addition,these estimations have practical significance for advancing the long-term effective mechanisms of the cost-benefit analysis of China5s environmental policies.Jing ZHANG Hongqiang JIANG Wei ZHANG Guoxia MA Yanchao WANG Yaling LU Xi HU Jia ZHOU Fei PENG Jun BI Jinnan WANG 2019Frontiers of Engineering Management2019,6,4:4
12PagGRF12a interacts with PagGIF1b to regulate secondary xylem development through modulating PagXND1a expression in Populus alba×P.glandulosa显示文摘Growth-regulating factors(GRFs)are important regulators of plant development and growth,but their possible roles in xylem development in woody plants remain unclear.Here,we report that Populus alba×Papulus glandulosa PagGRF12a negatively regulates xylem development in poplar.PagGRF12a is expressed in vascular tissues.Compared to non-transgenic control plants,transgenic poplar plants overexpressing PagGRF12a exhibited reduced xylem width and plants with repressed expression of PagGRF12a exhibited increased xylem width.Xylem NAC domain 1(XND1)encodes a NAC domain transcription factor that regulates xylem development and transcriptional analyses revealed that PagXND1a is highly upregulated in PagGRF12a-overexpressing plants and downregulated in PagGRF12a-suppressed plants,indicating that PagGRF12a may regulate xylem development through PagXND1a.Transient transcriptional assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation-polymerase chain reaction assays confirmed that PagGRF12a directly upregulates PagXND1a.In addition,PagGRF12a interacts with the GRF-Interacting Factor(GIF)PagGIF1b,and this interaction enhances the effects of PagGRF12a on PagXND1a.Our results indicate that PagGRF12a inhibits xylem development by upregulating the expression of PagXND1a.Jinnan Wang Houjun Zhou Yanqiu Zhao Cheng Jiang Jihong Li Fang Tang Yingli Liu Shutang Zhao Jianjun Hu Xueqin Song MengZhu Lu 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,10:3
13Effect of dissolved organic matter on nitrate-nitrogen removal by anion exchange resin and kinetics studies显示文摘The effects of dissolved organic matter (DOM) on the removal of nitrate-nitrogen from the model contaminated water have been investigated utilizing the strong base anion exchange resins. With the increase of gallic acid concentration from 0 to 400 mg/L, the adsorption amount of nitrate-nitrogen on the commercial resins, including D201, Purolite A 300 (A300) and Purolite A 520E (A520E), would significantly decrease. However, the presence of tannin acid has little impact on nitrate-nitrogen adsorption on them. Compared to D201 and A300 resins, A520E resin exhibited more preferable adsorption ability toward nitrate-nitrogen in the presence of competing organic molecules, such as gallic acid and tannin acid at greater levels in aqueous solution. Attractively, the equilibrium data showed that the adsorption isotherm of nitrate-nitrogen on A520E resin was in good agreement with Langmuir and Freundlich equations. The rate parameters for the intra particle diffusion have been estimated for the different initial concentrations. In batch adsorption processes, nitrate-nitrogen diffuse in porous adsorbent and rate process usually depends on t 1/2 rather than the contact time. The pseudo first- and the second-order kinetic models fit better for nitrate-nitrogen adsorption onto A520E resin. Comparing with Amberlite XAD-4 and NDA-150, the equilibrium adsorption for phenol on the JN-3 from aqueous solutions was tested, perfect adsorption capacity was shown. Pb2+ can be also removed by JN-3 because of the chelate interaction between sulfhydryl groups and metal ions. 15Selection of magnetic anion exchange resins for the removal of dissolved organic and inorganic matters显示文摘Four magnetic anion exchange resins (MAERs) were used as adsorbents to purify drinking water. The effect of water quality (pH, temperature, ionic strength, etc.) on the performance of MAER for the removal of dissolved organic matter (DOM) was also investigated. Among the four studied MAERs, the strong base resin named NDMP-1 with high water content and enhanced exchange capacity exhibited the highest removal rate of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) (48.9% removal rate) and UV-absorbing substances (82.4% removal rate) with a resin dose of 10 mL/L after 30 min of contact time. The MAERs could also effectively remove inorganic matter such as sulfate, nitrate and fluoride. Because of the higher specific UV absorbance (SUVA) value, the DOM in the raw water was found to be removed more effectively than that in the clarified water by NDMP resin. The temperature showed a weak influence on the removal of DOC from 6 to 26°C, while a relatively strong one at 36°C. The removal of DOM by NDMP was also affected to some extent by the pH value. 16Solvent extraction of lanthanum and cerium ions from hydrochloric acidic aqueous solutions using partly saponified 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester显示文摘In order to clarify the extraction process with saponified extractant, the solvent extraction experiments of rare earth elements(REEs), lanthanum and cerium, by using partly saponified 2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester(EHEHPA, HL) from hydrochloric acidic solutions have been performed. The concentration of initial aqueous rare earth ion was in a range of 0.0010–0.1000 mol·L^(-1); EHEHPA in a range of 0.2877–0.8631 mol·L^(-1) with saponification rate of 0.3(mole fraction), and the initial aqueous p H in a range of 1.00–4.00. Firstly, the extracted species were determined by the saturation extraction capacity method. Secondly, according to the equilibrium aqueous pH values, the extraction processes were divided into three different categories: extraction with saponified EHEHPA, extraction with un-saponified EHEHPA, and hydrolysis process.
