| 1 | General characteristics of climate changes during the past 2000 years in China显示文摘The general characteristics of climate changes over the past 2000 years in China,regional differences and uncertainties were analyzed based on the recently peer-reviewed high time-resolution climatic reconstructions.The results showed that there exists four warm periods of the temperature variation in China since the Qin Dynasty,including the western and eastern Han Dynasties(200 BC-AD 180),the Sui and Tang dynasties(541-810),the Song and Yuan dynasties(931-1320),and the 20th century,and three cold phases involving the Wei,Jin,and North-South Dynasties(181-540),the late Tang Dynasty(811-930),and the Ming and Qing dynasties(1321-1920).The Song and Yuan warm period is consistent with the Medieval Warm Period over the Northern Hemisphere,and the cold phases of the North-South Dynasties and the Ming and Qing dynasties are paralleled to the Dark Ages Cold Period and the Little Ice Age,respectively.The 13th-15th century could be a shift to the wet condition of the climate,and the low precipitation variability is exhibited in western China prior to 1500.In the context of the climate warming,the pattern of the drought in north and flood in south is prevalent over the eastern China.In addition,the published reconstructions have a high level of confidence for the past 500 years,but large uncertainties exist prior to the 16th century. | GE QuanSheng ZHENG JingYun HAO ZhiXin LIU HaoLong | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,2: | 15 |

We first find a characterization of the conditional probability generating function of Z(t) (given the environment ξ) via a functional equation, and obtain a criterion for almost certain extinction of the process by comparing it with an embedded Galton-Watson process. | 5 | Spatiotemporal differentiation of changes in wheat phenology in China under climate change from 1981 to 2010显示文摘Phenology is a reliable biological indicator for reflecting climate change. An examination of changes in crop phenology and the mechanisms driving them is critical for guiding regional agricultural activities in attempts to adapt to climate change. Due to a lack of records based on continuous long-term observation, studies on changes in multiple consecutive phenological stages throughout a whole growing season on a national scale are rarely found, especially with regard to the spatiotemporal differentiation of phenological changes. Using a long-term dataset(1981-2010) of wheat phenology collected from 48 agro-meteorological stations in China, we qualified the spatiotemporal changes of 10 phenological stages as well as the length of wheat growth phases. Results showed that climate and wheat phenology changed significantly during the growing seasons from 1981 to 2010. On average, on a national scale, dates of sowing(0.19 d a-1), emergence(0.06 d a-1), trefoil(0.05 d a-1), and milk ripe(0.06 d a-1) showed a delaying trend, whereas dates of tillering(-0.02 d a-1), jointing(-0.15 d a-1),booting(-0.21 d a-1), heading(-0.17 d a-1), anthesis(-0.19 d a-1), and maturity(-0.10 d a-1) showed an advancing trend.Furthermore, the vegetative growth phase and growing season were shortened by 0.23 and 0.29 d a-1, respectively, whereas the reproductive growth phase was lengthened by 0.06 d a-1. Trends in dates of phenological stages or length of growing phases varied across wheat-planting regions. Moreover, spatiotemporal differentiation of sensitivity in growing season length(GSL) to variations in climatic factors during the growing season between spring and winter wheat were remarkable. The GSL of spring(winter) wheat decreased(increased) with an increase in average temperature during the growing season. In all wheat-planting regions, the GSL increased with the increasing of total precipitation and sunshine duration during the growing season. In particular, the sensitivity of GSL to precipitation for spring wheat was weaker than for winter wheat, while the sensitivity of GSL to sunshine duration for spring wheat was stronger than for winter wheat. | 6 | Characteristics of Temperature Change in China over the Last 2000 years and Spatial Patterns of Dryness/Wetness during Cold and Warm Periods显示文摘This paper presents new high-resolution proxies and paleoclimatic reconstructions for studying climate changes in China for the past 2000 years. Multi-proxy synthesized reconstructions show that temperature variation in China has exhibited significant 50–70-yr, 100–120-yr, and 200–250-yr cycles. Results also show that the amplitudes of decadal and centennial temperature variation were 1.3℃ and 0.7℃, respectively, with the latter significantly correlated with long-term changes in solar radiation, especially cold periods, which correspond approximately to sunspot minima. The most rapid warming in China occurred over AD 1870–2000, at a rate of 0.56°± 0.42℃(100 yr)^(-1); however, temperatures recorded in the 20 th century may not be unprecedented for the last 2000 years, as data show records for the periods AD 981–1100 and AD1201–70 are comparable to the present. The ensemble means of dryness/wetness spatial patterns in eastern China across all centennial warm periods illustrate a tripole pattern: dry south of 25°N, wet from 25°–30°N, and dry to the north of 30°N. However, for all centennial cold periods, this spatial pattern also exhibits a meridional distribution. The increase in precipitation over the monsoonal regions of China associated with the 20 th century warming can primarily be attributed to a mega El Nino–Southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation. In addition, a significant association between increasing numbers of locusts and dry/cold conditions is found in eastern China. | 10 | Newborn screening with targeted sequencing:a multicenter investigation and a pilot clinical study in China显示文摘Different newborn screening(NBS) programs have been practiced in many countries since the 1960 s. It is of considerable interest whether next-generation sequencing is applicable in NBS. We have developed a panel of 465 causative genes for 596 early-onset, relatively high incidence, and potentially actionable severe inherited diseases in our Newborn Screening with Targeted Sequencing(NESTS) program to screen 11,484 babies in 8 Women and Children’s hospitals nationwide in China retrospectively. The positive rate from preliminary screening of NESTS was 7.85%(902/11,484). With 45.89%(414/902) follow-up of preliminary positive cases, the overall clinically confirmative diagnosis rate of monogenic disorders was 12.07%(50/414), estimating an average of 0.95%(7.85% × 12.07%) clinical diagnosis rate, suggesting that monogenic disorders account for a considerable proportion of birth defects. The disease/gene spectrum varied in different regions of China. NESTS was implemented in a hospital by screening 3923 newborns to evaluate its clinical application. The turn-around time of a primary report, including the sequencing period of < 7 days, was within 11 days by our automatic interpretation pipeline. | 11 | Real-time rock mass condition prediction with TBM tunneling big data using a novel rock-machine mutual feedback perception method显示文摘Real-time perception of rock mass information is of great importance to efficient tunneling and hazard prevention in tunnel boring machines(TBMs).In this study,a TBM-rock mutual feedback perception method based on data mining(DM) is proposed,which takes 10 tunneling parameters related to surrounding rock conditions as input features.For implementation,first,the database of TBM tunneling parameters was established,in which 10,807 tunneling cycles from the Songhua River water conveyance tunnel were accommodated.Then,the spectral clustering(SC) algorithm based on graph theory was introduced to cluster the TBM tunneling data.According to the clustering results and rock mass boreability index,the rock mass conditions were classified into four classes,and the reasonable distribution intervals of the main tunneling parameters corresponding to each class were presented.Meanwhile,based on the deep neural network(DNN),the real-time prediction model regarding different rock conditions was established.Finally,the rationality and adaptability of the proposed method were validated via analyzing the tunneling specific energy,feature importance,and training dataset size.The proposed TBM-rock mutual feedback perception method enables the automatic identification of rock mass conditions and the dynamic adjustment of tunneling parameters during TBM driving.Furthermore,in terms of the prediction performance,the method can predict the rock mass conditions ahead of the tunnel face in real time more accurately than the traditional machine learning prediction methods. | Zhijun Wu Rulei Wei Zhaofei Chu Quansheng Liu | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,6: | 6 |

| 13 | Impact of stress on solute transport in a fracture network: A comparison study显示文摘This paper compares numerical modeling of the effect of stress on solute transport (advection and matrix diffusion) in fractured rocks in which fracture apertures are correlated with fracture lengths. It is mainly motivated by the performance and safety assessments of underground radioactive waste repositories. Five research teams used different approaches to model stress/deformation, flow and transport processes, based on either discrete fracture network or equivalent continuum models. The simulation results derived by various teams generally demonstrated that rock stresses could significantly influence solute transport processes through stress-induced changes in fracture apertures and associated changes in permeability. | 14 | Atorvastatin attenuates surgery-induced BBB disruption and cognitive impairment partly by suppressing NF-κB pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in aged mice显示文摘In clinic,perioperative neurocognitive disorder is becoming a common complication of surgery in old patients.Neuroinflammation and blood-brain barrier(BBB)disruption are important contributors for cognitive impairment.Atorvastatin,as a strong HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor,has been widely used in clinic.However,it remains unclear whether atorvastatin could prevent anesthesia and surgery-induced BBB disruption and cognitive injury by its anti-inflammatory property.In this study,aged C57BL/6J mice were used to address this question.Initially,the mice were subject to atorvastatin treatment for 7 days(10 mg/kg).After a simple laparotomy under 1.5%isoflurane anesthesia,Morris water maze was performed to assess spatial learning and memory.Western blot analysis,immunohistochemistry,and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were used to examine the inflammatory response,BBB integrity,and cell apoptosis.Terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labeling assay was used to assess cell apoptosis.The fluorescein sodium and transmission electron microscopy were used to detect the permeability and structure of BBB.The results showed that anesthesia and surgery significantly injured hippocampal-dependent learning and memory,which was ameliorated by atorvastatin.Atorvastatin could also reverse the surgery-induced increase of systemic and hippocampal cytokines,including IL-1β,TNF-α,and IL-6,accompanied by inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB)pathway and Nucleotide-Binding Oligomerization Domain,or Leucine Rich Repeat and Pyrin Domain Containing 3(NLRP3)inflammasome activation,as well as hippocampal neuronal apoptosis.In addition,surgery triggered an increase of BBB permeability,paralleled by a decrease of the ZO-1,occludin,and Claudin 5 proteins in the hippocampus.However,atorvastatin treatment could protect the BBB integrity from the impact of surgery,by up-regulating the expressions of ZO-1,occludin,and Claudin 5.These findings suggest that atorvastatin exhibits neuroprotective effects on cognition in aged mice undergoing surgery. | Pengfei Liu Quansheng Gao Lei Guan Yanting Hu Jingwen Jiang Teng Gao Weixuan Sheng Xinying Xue Hui Qiao Tianzuo Li | 2021 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,5: | 6 |

| 19 | Radio-Acoustic Integrated Network for Ocean Information Transmission:Framework and Enabling Technologies显示文摘An important vision of next generation mobile system is to provide global internet access.The Space-Terrestrial Integrated Network(STIN)has been proposed and intensively studied to tackle this challenge.Due to the severe attenuation of radio signals in water,the STIN cannot be directly applied in underwater scenarios.In this paper we envision a framework of integrated radio-acoustic network arming at high-efficient data transmission in underwater scenarios,where acoustic signal is for underwater communication and radio signal is for surface and air communications.Since radio links have much higher data transmission rate and lower delay,in the integrated radio-acoustic network,the acoustic links easily become congested,at the same time the radio links are not fully utilized.We therefore propose that the integrated radio-acoustic network should be properly designed to minimize the hop count of acoustic links,as well as the signaling overhead in the acoustic subnetwork.We then present a novel network framework and the relative technologies to help moving the signaling overhead to the radio subnetwork. | Fangjiong Chen Zilong Jiang Fei Ji Hua Yu Quansheng Guan Feng Liu | 2021 | China Communications2021,18,9: | 4 |
