1Methylmercury and sulfate-reducing bacteria in mangrove sediments from Jiulong River Estuary,China显示文摘Estuaries are important sites for mercury (Hg) methylation,with sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) thought to be the main Hg methylators.Distributions of total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) in mangrove sediment and sediment core from Jiulong River Estuary Provincial Mangrove Reserve,China were determined and the possible mechanisms of Hg methylation and their controlling factors in mangrove sediments were investigated.Microbiological and geochemical parameters were also determined.Results showed that SRB constitute a small fraction of total bacteria (TB) in both surface sediments and the profile of sediments.The content of THg,MeHg,TB,and SRB were (350±150)ng/g,(0.47±0.11)ng/g,(1.4×10 11±4.1×109)cfu/g dry weight (dw),and (5.0×106±2.7×106)cfu/g dw in surficial sediments,respectively,and (240±24)ng/g,(0.30±0.15)ng/g,(1.9×1011± 4.2×1010)cfu/g dw,and (1.3×106± 2.0×106) cfu/g dw in sediment core,respectively.Results showed that THg,MeHg,TB,MeHg/THg,salinity and total sulfur (TS) increased with depth,but total organic matter (TOM),SRB,and pH decreased with depth.Concentrations of MeHg in sediments showed significant positive correlation with THg,salinity,TS,and MeHg/THg,and significant negative correlation with SRB,TOM,and pH.It was concluded that other microbes,rather than SRB,may also act as main Hg methylators in mangrove sediments.Hao Wu Zhenhua Ding Yang Liu Jinling Liu Haiyu Yan Jiayong Pan Liuqiang Li Huina Lin Guanghui Lin Haoliang Lu 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1:17
2Climate as the dominant control on C3 and C4 plant abundance in the Loess Plateau: Organic carbon isotope evidence from the last glacial-interglacial loess-soil sequences显示文摘Abundance of C3 and C4 photosynthesis plants can be inferred relatively from stable carbon isotopic composition of organic matter in soils. The samples from five sequences of the last glacial-interglacial loess-soil in the Chinese Loess Plateau have been measured for organic carbon isotopic ratios (? 13Corg). The organic carbon isotope data show that relative abundance (or biomass) of C4 plants was increased ca. 40% for each sampling site from the last glacial maximum (LGM) to Holocene optimum, and increased southeastward on the Loess Plateau during both periods of LGM and Holocene. Statistic analyses on the steady maximumδ 13Corg values of Holocene soils and modern climatic data from the Loess Plateau and Inner Mongolia indicate that the C4 plant abundance increases with increasing temperature and decreasing precipitation. The C4 plant abundance is related much closer with mean April temperature and precipitation than annual. These results lead us to deduce following conclusions. First, temperature is the major factor for control on variations in C4 plant abundance in the Loess Plateau from the last glacial to interglacial. In the absence of favorable temperature condition, both of low moisture and low atmospheric CO2 concentration are insufficient to drive an expansion of the C4 plants in the plateau. Second, ? 13Corg in the loess-paleosol sequences, as a proxy of the relative abundance of C4 plants in the Loess Plateau, could not be used as an indicator of changes in the summer monsoon intensity unless the temperature had changed without great amplitude. 3Identification of novel cis-elements bound by BplMYB46 involved in abiotic stress responses and secondary wall deposition显示文摘Transcription factors(TFs)play vital roles in various biological processes by binding to cis-acting elements to control expressions of their target genes.The MYB TF BplMYB46,from Betula platyphylla,is involved in abiotic stress responses and secondary wall deposition.In the present study,we used a TF-centered yeast onehybrid technology(TF-centered Y1H)to identify the cisacting elements bound by BplMYB46.We screened a shortinsert random library and identified three cis-elements bound by BplMYB46:an E-box(CA(A/T/C)(A/G/C)TG)and two novel motifs,a TC-box(T(G/A)TCG(C/G))and a GT-box(A(G/T)T(A/C)GT(T/G)C).Chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)and effector-reporter coexpression assays in Nicotiana tabacum confirmed binding of BplMYB46 to the TC-box,GT-box,and E-box motifs in the promoters of the phenylalanine ammonia lyase(PAL),peroxidase(POD),and superoxide dismutase(SOD)genes,which function in abiotic stress tolerance and secondary wall biosynthesis.This finding improves our understanding of potential regulatory mechanisms in the response to abiotic stress and secondary wall deposition of BplMYB46 in B.platyphylla.Huiyan Guo Liuqiang Wang Chuanping Yang Yiming Zhang Chunrui Zhang Chao Wang 2018Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2018,60,10:7

6ThERF1 regulates its target genes via binding to a novel cis-acting element in response to salt stress显示文摘Ethylene responsive factors(ERFs) are plantspeci fi c transcription factors that are involved in a variety of biological processes. We previously demonstrated that an ERF gene from Tamarix hispida, Th ERF1, encodes a protein binding to GCC-box and DRE motifs and negatively modulates abiotic stress tolerance. In the present study, microarray analysis was performed to study the genes regulated by Th ERF1 on a genomic scale. There were 154 and 307 genes(respectively representing 134 and 260 unique genes) signi fi cantly up- and downregulated by Th ERF1 under salt stress conditions,respectively. A novel motif, named TTG, was identi fi ed to be recognized by Th ERF1, which commonly presents in the promoters of Th ERF1-targeted genes. The TTG motif is also bound by other ERFs of a different subfamily from T. hispida and Arabidopsis, indicating that it is commonly recognized by ERF proteins. The binding af fi nities of ERFs to the TTG motif R e s e a r c h Aare signi fi cantly induced by salt stress. The TTG motif is more enriched than the GCC-box and DRE motifs in the promoters of Th ERF1-targeted genes. 7Parotid gland carcinosarcoma with follicular dendritic cell sarcoma as mesenchymal component: a case report显示文摘The WHO has classified malignant mixed tumours of salivary glands into noninvasive carcinoma in pleomorphic adenoma, invasive carcinoma in pleomorphic adenoma, carcino-sarcoma and metastasizing mixed tumour.1 Carcinosarcoma, or true malignant mixed tumour, is a tumour composed of both carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements. It is an exceedingly rare tumour of the salivary glands and only about 60 cases have been reported.2 In this report we describe a case of carcinosarcoma of a parotid gland that contained an unusual mesenchymal component (follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, FDCS) in a 55-year-old man with cytological, histological and immunohistochemical findings. 8ThERF1 from Tamarix hispida confers decreased tolerance to oxidative and drought stresses and is regulated by a WRKY protein显示文摘The ethylene-responsive factor family is one of the largest families of plant-specific transcription factors that are involved in plant development and stress responses. Previously, we demonstrated that the gene Th ERF1,encoding a novel ethylene-responsive factor from Tamarix hispida, negatively modulates abiotic stress tolerance. In the present study, Arabidopsis plants overexpressing Th ERF1 had decreased oxidative tolerance and increased transpirational water loss rate compared with wild-type plants, leading to sensitivity to abiotic stress. Real-time RT-PCR showed that the upstream regulator of Th ERF1,Th WRKY2, is involved in responses to different abiotic stresses. Furthermore, both Th WRKY2 and Th ERF1 shared similar expression patterns in the stems and leaves of T.hispida when exposed to salinity, drought and abscisic acid. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays further confirmed that Th WRKY2 can directly bind to the promoter of Th ERF1 and regulate its expression. 9Carbon isotopic record from Upper Devonian carbonates at Dongcun in Guilin, southern China, supporting the worldwide pattern of carbon isotope excursions during Frasnian-Famennian transition显示文摘Two positive δ13C excursions are presented in records from the Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) marine carbonate sediments in Europe, America, Africa, and Australia, having been considered as a worldwide pattern, and attributed to enhanced organic carbon burial during the F-F biological mass extinction. However, this worldwide pattern has not been revealed from the well-deposited Late Devonian sequences in southern China. In this paper, a detailed investigation has been made on the Late Devonian section at Dongcun, Guilin, southern China to constrain perturbations in δ13C of carbonates in the F-F deposited sequence. The result from this section also indicates two positive δ13C excursions during the F-F transition. The first excursion with an amplitude of 1.5‰ occurred at the bottom of linguiformis Zone, later than the early excursion existing in the Late rhenana Zone of the Late Devonian profiles in other continents, especially, in central Europe. This difference has been expected to be a result as conodont Palmatolepis linguiformis occurred earlier in southern China than other sites. The second excursion with an amplitude of 2.1‰ is located at the F-F boundary, same as the records from other continents.
