1Expenditure and financial burden for the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer in China:a hospital.based,multicenter,cross-sectional survey显示文摘Background: The increasing prevalence of colorectal cancer(CRC) in China and the paucity of information about relevant expenditure highlight the necessity of better understanding the financial burden and effect of CRC diagnosis and treatment. We performed a survey to quantify the direct medical and non-medical expenditure as well as the resulting financial burden of CRC patients in China.Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cross-sectional survey in 37 tertiary hospitals in 13 provinces across China between 2012 and 2014. Each enrolled patient was interviewed using a structured questionnaire. All expenditure data were inflated to the 2014 Chinese Yuan(CNY; 1 CNY = 0.163 USD). We quantified the overall expenditure and financial burden and by subgroup(hospital type, age at diagnosis, sex, education, occupation, insurance type, household income, clinical stage, pathologic type, and therapeutic regimen). We then performed generalized linear modeling to determine the factors associated with overall expenditure.Results: A total of 2356 patients with a mean age of 57.4 years were included, 57.1 % of whom were men; 13.9% of patients had stage I cancer; and the average previous-year household income was 54,525 CNY.The overall average direct expenditure per patient was estimated to be 67,408 CNY, and the expenditures for stage Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, and Ⅳ disease were 56,099 CNY, 59,952 CNY, 67,292 CNY, and 82,729 CNY, respectively. Non-medical expenditure accounted for 8.3%of the overall expenditure. The 1-year out-of-pocket expenditure of a newly diagnosed patient was 32,649 CNY, which accounted for 59.9% of their previous-year household income and caused 75.0% of families to suffer an unmanageable financial burden. Univariate analysis showed that financial burden and overall expenditure differed in almost all subgroups(P < 0.05), except for sex. Multivariate analysis showed that patients who were treated in specialized hospitals and those who were diagnosed with adenocarcinoma or diagnosed at a later stage were likely to spend more,whereas those with a lower household income and those who underwent surgery spent less(all P < 0.05).Conclusions: For patients in China, direct expenditure for the diagnosis and treatment of CRC seemed catastrophic,and non-medical expenditure was non-ignorable. 2Dual-comb spectroscopy resolved three-degreeof-freedom sensing显示文摘Precise and fast determination of position and orientation, which is normally achieved by distance and angle measurements, has broad applications in academia and industry. We propose a dynamic three-degree-of-freedom measurement technique based on dual-comb interferometry and a self-designed grating-corner-cube(GCC) combined sensor. Benefiting from its unique combination of diffraction and reflection characteristics, the absolute distance, pitch, and yaw of the GCC sensor can be determined simultaneously by resolving the phase spectra of the corresponding diffracted beams. We experimentally demonstrate that the method exhibits a ranging precision(Allan deviation) of 13.7 nm and an angular precision of 0.088 arcsec, alongside a 1 ms reaction time. The proposed technique is capable of precise and fast measurement of distances and two-dimensional angles over long stand-off distances. 4Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity of One-Dimensional CdS@TiO_2 Core-Shell Hetero-structures显示文摘One-dimensional Cd S@TiO_2 core-shell heterostructures were fabricated via the hydrolysis of tetrabutyl titanate(TBT) on preformed Cd S nanowires. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy techniques. Results demonstrated that the hydrolysis of TBT had a great influence on the morphology of the coated TiO_2 shell, resulting in the formation of TiO_2 nanoparticles and nanolayer-modified Cd S@TiO_2 heterostructures. Degradation of methylene blue using Cd S@TiO_2 core-shell heterostructures as photocatalysts under visible light irradiation was investigated. 9PKC-SWI6 signaling regulates asexual development,cell wall integrity,stress response,and lifestyle transition in the nematode-trapping fungus Arthrobotrys oligospora显示文摘Predatory fungi possess intricate signal transduction systems that regulate their development and support successful infection of the host.Herein,we characterized three components of the cell wall integrity-controlling pathway,namely protein kinase C(Ao PKC),SLT2-MAPK(Ao SLT2),and SWI6(Ao SWI6),in a representative nematode-trapping fungus Arthrobotrys oligospora,using gene disruption and multi-omics approaches.The phenotypic traits(such as mycelia development,conidiation,stress response,and trap morphogenesis) and metabolic profiles of ΔAopkc and ΔAoswi6 mutants were similar but differed from those of the ΔAoslt2 mutants.Transcriptomic analysis indicated that the genes differentially expressed in the absence of Aoswi6 were involved in DNA replication,repair,and recombination during trap formation.Moreover,the yeast two-hybrid assay showed that Ao PKC interacted with Ao SWI6,suggesting that in A.oligospora,PKC can directly regulate SWI6,bypassing the SLT2signaling cascade.Conclusively,our findings deepen our understanding of the regulatory mechanism of asexual development and lifestyle switching in nematode-trapping fungi.Meihua Xie Ni Ma Na Bai Le Yang Xuewei Yang Ke-Qin Zhang Jinkui Yang 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,12:1

15Effect of Different Factors on the Quality of Life and Sequelae of COVID-19 Patients After Discharge显示文摘Background The continued spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)remains an international public health emergency,resulting in a significant global disease burden.The long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans and the long-term prognosis of patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)after discharge remain unclear.We aimed to assess the quality of life(QoL)and sequelae in patients with COVID-19 after discharge from the hospital by conducting multiple follow-up visits to understand the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 on patients'health and its possible influencing factors.Methods COVID-19 patients discharged from Huoshenshan Hospital(Wuhan,China)between February 15 and April 5,2020,were followed up at 6,9,and 12 months after discharge.They completed questionnaires on postdischarge QoL and sequelae under the guidance of medical staff with professional training.The demographic and clinical characteristics of the COVID-19 patients were analyzed using descriptive statistics.A generalized estimating equation model was used to analyze the QoL-related factors.Theχ2 test(or Fisher exact test)and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the sequelae and influencing factors.Results A total of 175 patients participated in at least 1 follow-up visit,and 120 completed all 3 follow-up visits.Patients diagnosed with severe and critically ill COVID-19 had worse mental conditions(χ2=7.653,P=0.022)than those with the nonsevere type(not severe or critical)and were more likely to feel fatigued(χ2=4.836,P=0.028).Female patients had a higher risk of sleep disturbance(χ2=10.026,P=0.002)and dyspnea(χ2=5.672,P=0.017)and had more difficulty returning to their original work and life(χ2=8.922,P=0.003)than male patients.Patients with diabetes had a worse appetite(χ2=4.669,P=0.031)and were more prone to sleep disturbance(χ2=4.417,P=0.036)after discharge.The proportion of patients with at least 1 sequela increased from 29.76%(50/168)at 6 months to 51.11%(69/135)at 9 months(χ2=14.305,P<0.001).Compared with the nonsevere type,patients diagnosed with severe and critically ill COVID-19 had an odds ratio(OR)of 4.325(95%confidence interval[CI],1.215–15.401)for memory decline.Female patients had an OR of 4.632(95%CI,1.716–12.501)for joint or muscle pain.Patients with hypertension had an OR of 3.014(95%CI,1.193–7.615)for joint or muscle pain.Conclusion One year after discharge,there were still some patients with varying degrees of decline in QoL and sequelae,which occurred in all follow-up visits.Moreover,QoL and sequelae after discharge were related to sex,clinical classification of COVID-19,and underlying diseases.Nan Guo Ya-Ping Yao Le Song Guan-Zhen Wang Jun-Li He Ning Zheng Qiong Mo Wen-Xu Ni Bo Zhang Fu-Sheng Wang Lei Huang 2023Infectious Diseases & Immunity2023,3,2:1

19A long/short-range interconnected carbon with well-defined mesopore for high-energy-density supercapacitors显示文摘Amorphous carbon derived from biomass unusually combines the merits of large specific surface area and abundant micropores,offering massive anchoring points for ion adsorption in electrolyte.Nevertheless,the short-range ordered structure in amorphous carbon hinders the fast electron transfer.Conversely,graphitic carbon with long-range ordered structure is beneficial for electron transfer.Thus,a low-cost strategy is required to marry hierarchical porous structure with long-range ordered structure,resulting in a long/short-range interconnected porous carbon and then leading to fast ion and electron transfer.Herein,we modified the solid-phase conversion process of biomass by employing the features of liquid-phase carbonization for petroleum asphalt.With the assistance of asphalt,the large specific surface area(>2,000 m^(2)·g^(-1)),high ratio of mesopores(ca.60%)together with long-range ordered structure are in-situ created in as-made porous carbon.Thanks to the well configured structure in small scale,the as-made co-converted carbon can be operated in high-viscosity EMIMBF4 electrolyte with a superior capacitance(315 F·g^(-1)@1 A·g^(-1)).Besides,the as-assembled symmetric supercapacitor can deliver a super-high specific energy of 174 Wh·kg^(-1)@2.0 kW·kg^(-1).This work provides a new version for designing highly porous biomass-derived carbon with long/short-range alternating structure at molecular level.Yuanyang Xie Chang Yu Wei Guo Lin Ni Zhao Wang Jinhe Yu Le Yang Rong Fu Kunlun Liu Jieshan Qiu 2022Nano Research2022,15,2:1
