Effect of Cultivation on Spatial Distribution of Nematode Trophic Groups in Black Soil显示文摘Geostatistics combined with GIS was applied to assess the spatial distribution of nematode trophic groups following two contrasting soil uses in the black soil region of Northeast China. Two plots, one with fallow for 12 years and the other cultivated, were marked on regular square grids with 2-m spacing. Soil samples were collected from each sampling point, nematodes were extracted from these samples and classified into four trophic groups: bacterivores, fungivores, plant parasites, and omnivores/predators. The numbers of total nematodes and trophic groups analyzed had normal distributions on both fallow and cultivated plots. The absolute abundances of total nematodes and trophic groups were observed to be much more homogeneous on cultivated plot than on fallow one. Geostatistical analysis showed that the densities of total nematodes and trophic groups on both fallow and cultivated plots exhibited spatial dependence at the sampled scale and their experimental semivariograms were adjusted to a spherical or exponential model, except those of bacterivores and fungivores on cultivated plot. The spatial distribution of nematode trophic groups was found to be different for the two land uses, indicating that cultivation changed the native condition for soil nematode activities.LIANG WENJU, LI QI, JIANG YONG, CHEN WENBO and WEN DAZHONGShenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Institute of Applied Ecology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016 (China) 2003Pedosphere2003,13,2:29
Spatial heterogeneity of DTPA-extractable zinc in cultivated soils induced by city pollution and land use显示文摘The spatial heterogeneity of DTPA-extractable zinc in the cultivated soils of Shenyang suburbs in Liaoning Province of China was investigated, and its map was drawn by the methods of geostatistics combined with geographic information system. The data of soil DTPA-extractable zinc fitted normal distribution after logarithm transformation, and its semivariogram fitted a spherical model. The semivariogram indicated that the spatial dependence of soil DTPA-extractable zinc content was moderate, with the spatial dependence range of 1.69 km and the fractal dimension of 1.96. Stochastic factors contributed to 49.9% of the spatial variability, while structural factors contributed to 50.1% of it. The spatial heterogeneity of soil DTPA-extractable zinc shown by a kriged interpolation map was deeply influenced by stochastic factors such as city pollution, land use pattern and crop distributions. For example, the average content of Zn in vegetable garden soils was 2.5-4 times as much as in their originated soils, and was lower in paddy soils than in their originated soils. The areas with a higher content of soil DTPA-extractable zinc appeared in the near suburbs and the riverside along Hunhe River and the wastewater drainage of Xihe River, and the extremely high values in the near suburb of the city's residential area were a striking feature, indicating the key role of city pollution in the spatial heterogeneity of soil DTPA-extractable zinc. When recorded in the form of a soil pollution map,the results of such a survey make it possible to identify the unusually polluted areas, and to provide more information for precise agriculture and environmental control.JIANG Yong, LIANG Wenju, WEN Dazhong, ZHANG Yuge & CHEN Wenbo Key Laboratory of Terrestrial Ecological Process, Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China College of Land and Environment, Shenyang Agricultural University, Shenyang 110161, China 2005Science China(Life Sciences)2005,48,z1:13
Effects of heavy metal pollution of highway origin on soil nematode guilds in North Shenyang, China显示文摘Soil samples were collected with distance at 5,20,40,80,160,and 320 m from the Shen-Ha(Shenyang-Harbin) Highway,Northeast China,to investigate the effect of heavy metals of highway origin on soil nematode guilds. The contents of soil Pb,Cu,Zn,and the nematode community structure were analyzed. The results showed that the contents of total and available Pb,Cu,Zn varied significantly with the different distances from the highway.Pb was the main pollutant in the soils in the vicinity of Shen-Ha Highway. The zone from 20 to 40 m away from the highway was the most polluted area. The highest abundance of soil nematodes was found at 5 m while the lowest at 20 m away from the highway.Thirty six genera of nematodes belonging to 23 families were identified.Nematode guilds having different responses to soil heavy metals were classified into four types.Soil nematode guilds may act as a prominent indicator to heavy metal pollution of highway origin.HAN Dechang ZHANG Xiaoke TOMAR Vijay Vikram Singh LI Qi WEN Dazhong LIANG Wenju 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,2:10
Effects of slow-release urea fertilizers on urease activity, microbial biomass, and nematode communities in an aquic brown soil显示文摘A field experiment was carried out at the Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology (CAS) in order to study the effects of slow-release urea fertilizers high polymer-coated urea (SRU1), SRU1 mixed with dicyandiamide DCD (SRU2), and SRU1 mixed with calcium carbide CaC2 (SRU3) on urease activity, microbial biomass C and N, and nematode communities in an aquic brown soil during the maize growth period. The results demonstrated that the application of slow-release urea fertilizers inhibits soil urease activity and increases the soil NH4+-N content.Soil available N increment could promote its immobilization by microorganisms. Determination of soil microbial biomass N indicated that a combined application of coated urea and nitrification inhibitors increased the soil active N pool. The population of predators/omnivores indicated that treatment with SRU2 could provide enough soil NH4+-N to promote maize growth and increased the food resource for the soil fauna compared with the other treatments.JIAO Xiaoguang, LIANG Wenju, CHEN Lijun, ZHANG Haijun, LI Qi, WANG Peng & WEN Dazhong Key Laboratory of Terrestrial Ecological Process, Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100039, China 2005Science China(Life Sciences)2005,48,z1:5
Organic amendment effects on nematode distribution within aggregate fractions in agricultural soils显示文摘To evaluate the effect of organic amendments on soil nematode community composition and diversity within aggregate fractions,a study was initiated in agricultural soils with four-year organic amendments.Soil samples were collected from the plow layer(0-20 cm)under three cornfield management scenarios:1)conventional cropping(CK,corn straw removal and no organic manure application);2)straw retention(SR,incorporation of chopped corn stalk);and 3)manure application(MA,chicken manure input). The soil samples were fractionated into four aggregate sizes,i.e.,>2 mm(large macroaggregates),1-2 mm(macroaggregates),0.25-1 mm(small macroaggregates),and<0.25 mm(microaggregates, silt and clay fractions). The composition and diversity of soil nematode communities were determined within each aggregate fraction. The results showed that both SR and MA treatments significantly increased the percentage of macroaggregates(>1 mm)and only MA treatment strongly increased the mean weight diameter compared to the CK(P<0.05).The abundance of total nematodes and four trophic groups were affected significantly by the aggregate fractions and their higher abundance occurred in the larger aggregates. The effects of aggregate size on most nematode genera were significant.Bacterivores in the small macroaggregates and microaggregates, and fungivores in the large macroaggregates were significantly different among treatments. The percentage of bacterivores increased after the application of organic materials, while that of fungivores decreased. It can be concluded that organic management significantly affects soil aggregation and soil characteristics within aggregates, and the aggregate size subsequently influences the distribution of nematode communities.Xiaoke Zhang Xia Wu Shixiu Zhang Yuehua Xing Wenju Liang 2019Soil Ecology Letters2019,1,3:3
Four years of free-air CO_2 enrichment enhance soil C concentrations in a Chinese wheat field显示文摘Elevated atmospheric CO2 can influence soil C dynamics in agroecosystems. The effects of free-air CO2 enrichment(FACE) and N fertilization on soil organic C(Corg) ,dissolved organic C(DOC) ,microbial biomass C(Cmic) and soil basal respiration(SBR) were investigated in a Chinese wheat field after expose to elevated CO2 for four full years. The results indicated that elevated CO2 has stimulative effects on soil C concentrations regardless of N fertilization.Following the elevated CO2,the concentrations of Corg and SBR were increased at wheat jointing stage, and those of DOC and Cmic were enhanced obviously across the wheat jointing stage and the fallow period after wheat harvest. On the other hand,N fertilization did not significantly affect the content of soil C.Significant correlations were found among DOC,Cmic, and SBR in this study.ZHONG Shuang LIANG Wenju LOU Yilai LI Qi ZHU Jianguo 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,9:2
SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor-binding domain perturbates intracellular calcium homeostasis and impairs pulmonary vascular endothelial cells显示文摘Exposure to the spike protein or receptor-binding domain(S-RBD)of SARS-CoV-2 significantly influences endothelial cells and induces pulmonary vascular endotheliopathy. In this study,angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 humanized inbred(hACE2 Tg)mice and cultured pulmonary vascular endothelial cells were used to investigate how spike protein/S-RBD impacts pulmonary vascular endothelium. Results show that S-RBD leads to acute-to-prolonged induction of the intracellular free calcium concentration([Ca^(2+)]i)via acute activation of TRPV4,and prolonged upregulation of mechanosensitive channel Piezo1 and store-operated calcium channel(SOCC)key component Orai1 in cultured human pulmonary arterial endothelial cells(PAECs).In mechanism,S-RBD interacts with ACE2 to induce formation of clusters involving Orai1,Piezo1 and TRPC1,facilitate the channel activation of Piezo1 and SOCC,and lead to elevated apoptosis. These effects are blocked by Kobophenol A,which inhibits the binding between S-RBD and ACE2,or intracellular calcium chelator,BAPTA-AM.Blockade of Piezo1 and SOCC by GsMTx4 effectively protects the S-RBDinduced pulmonary microvascular endothelial damage in hACE2 Tg mice via normalizing the elevated[Ca^(2+)]i.Comparing to prototypic strain,Omicron variants(BA.5.2 and XBB)of S-RBD induces significantly less severe cell apoptosis.Transcriptomic analysis indicates that prototypic S-RBD confers more severe acute impacts than Delta or Lambda S-RBD.In summary, this study provides compelling evidence that S-RBD could induce persistent pulmonary vascular endothelial damage by binding to ACE2 and triggering[Ca^(2+)]i through upregulation of Piezo1 and Orai1.Targeted inhibition of ACE2-Piezo1/SOCC-[Ca^(2+)]i axis proves a powerful strategy to treat S-RBD-induced pulmonary vascular diseases.Kai Yang Shiyun Liu Han Yan Wenju Lu Xiaoqian Shan Haixia Chen Changlei Bao Huazhuo Feng Jing Liao Shuxin Liang Lei Xu Haiyang Tang Jason X-J.Yuan Nanshan Zhong Jian Wang 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,8:2
