| 1 | Tree-ring precipitation records from Baiyinaobao, Inner Mongolia since A.D. 1838显示文摘Correlation function analysis shows that total precipitation from April to early July (to July 10) in growing season limits the ring width of Picea Koraiensis significantly in Baiyinaobao, Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia. Thus a transfer function is designed to reconstruct the total precipitation from April to early July over the region for the last 160 years. The explained variance of the reconstruction is 49.3% (and 45.7% when adjusted for loss of degrees of freedom, N = 31, r = 0.702, F = 13.608, p < 0.0001). There are three relatively wet periods in the reconstruction which are: 1869—1875, 18861921 and 19431968, and four relatively dry periods: 1851—1868, 1876—1885, 1922—1943 and 1969—1999. Among them, the wet periods of 1886—1921 and 1943—1968, and the dry period of 1922—1943 appeared almost at the same time with those in Mt. Qilian region. Meanwhile, the dry period of 1922—1943 corresponds to high temperature and low rainfall during the 1920s and thereafter, and wetness of 1943—1968 corresponds very well to low temperature and more precipitation after the 1940s in Northwest, Northern China and the Changjiang River drainage basin. Calculation shows that the reconstruction series is significantly correlated with local dry-wet index (r = -0.234, p < 0.007, N = 143). Wavelet analysis indicates that there is a 22-a cycle in the precipitation of April to early July during 18381920, and an 11-a cycle during 1920—1952. No more cycles that reach 95% confidence limits are identified after 1953. The precipitation from April to early July quickly dropped into low during the 1920s. | 2 | Characteristics and formation mechanism of regional haze episodes in the Pearl River Delta of China显示文摘To investigate the characteristics and the specific mechanism of continuous haze,comprehensive measurements were conducted from 15 October to 19 November in the Atmospheric Environment Monitoring Super-Station in Heshan of Guangdong province.Five haze episodes occurred in October and November 2014 in the Pearl River Delta(PRD)region. The meteorological parameters, gas data, chemical compositions, and optical parameters of the aerosols were obtained. Among these events, the second haze episode,with the highest concentration of PM2.5 of 187.51 μg/m^3, was the most severe. NO^3-was always higher than SO_4^(2-), which indicated that motor vehicles played an important role in the haze, even though the oxidation rate from SO_2 to SO_4^(2-)was faster than that of NOXto NO_3^-. The difference between the hourly averages of Na+and K+during the haze episode and clean days was small, implying that straw combustion and sea salt had no significant effect on the occurrence of haze, and the backward trajectories of the air masses also conformed with this result. The air pollutants were difficult to disperse because of the significant decrease in the planetary boundary layer(PBL) height. | 3 | Inhibition of growth and metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer targeted by Traditional Chinese Medicine Tubeimu in orthotopic mice models显示文摘Objective: Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC) is highly invasive and metastatic, which is in urgent need of transformative therapeutics. Tubeimu(TBM), the rhizome of Bolbostemma paniculatum(Maxim.) Franquet, is one of the Chinese medicinal herbs used for breast diseases since the ancient times. The present study evaluated the efficacy, especially the anti-metastatic effects of the dichloromethane extract of Tubeimu(ETBM) on TNBC orthotopic mouse models and cell lines.Methods: We applied real-time imaging on florescent orthotopic TNBC mice model and tested cell migration and invasion abilities with MDA-MB-231 cell line. Digital gene expression sequencing was performed and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) analysis applied to explore the pathways influenced by ETBM.Moreover, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions(q RT-PCR) and Western blot were delivered to confirm the gene expression changes.Results: ETBM exhibited noticeable control on tumor metastasis and growth of TNBC tumors with no obvious toxicity. In compliance with this, it also showed inhibition of cell migration and invasion in vitro. | 5 | Efficacy and Safety of Second-line Treatments in Patients with Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma after Sorafenib Failure:A Meta-analysis显示文摘Background and Aims:In the last decade,several second-line therapies followed by sorafenib in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)have been reported.But the outcomes were different from each other.This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the second-line therapies followed by sorafenib in patients with advanced HCC.Methods:Embase(1974 to October 2019)and Ovid MEDLINE(1946 to October 2019)were searched for randomized clinical trials on second-line therapies followed by sorafenib in patients with advanced HCC.The quality of each study was assessed by the modified Jadad scale.Statistical analysis was carried out by RevMan5.3 software.Efficacy and safety were analyzed.Efficacy included overall survival(OS),disease control rate,time to progression,and progression-free survival.Results:Eight studies involving 3,173 patients were eligible.No difference in OS was found between the second-line treatment group and the control group(HR=0.87,95%CI:0.74-1.01,p=0.06).Disease control rate(relative risk(RR)=1.36,95%CI:1.16-1.60,p=0.0002),time to progression(HR=0.64,95%CI:0.51-0.81,p=0.0002)and progression-free survival(HR=0.60,95%CI:0.46-0.77,p<0.0001)were significantly improved by the second-line therapies.There was a slight difference in adverse events of any grade(RR=1.07,95%CI:1.00-1.14,p=0.03)between the two groups.Conclusions:These second-line therapies followed by sorafenib may potentially improve the prognosis in patients with advanced HCC.Compared with other second-line therapies,regorafenib seemed to be more effective. | Limin An Haotian Liao Kefei Yuan | 2021 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2021,9,6: | 2 |

| 15 | Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Severe or Critical COVID-19 Patients Presenting No Respiratory Symptoms or Fever at Onset显示文摘It is difficult to identify suspected cases of atypical patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and data on severe or critical patients are scanty.This retrospective study presents the clinical,laboratory,and radiological profiles,treatments,and outcomes of atypical COVID-19 patients without respiratory symptoms or fever at onset.The study examined ten atypical patients out of 909 severe or critical patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Wuhan Union Hospital West Campus between 25 January 2020 and 10 February 2020.Data were obtained from the electronic medical records of severe or critical patients without respiratory symptoms or fever at onset.Outcomes were followed up to discharge or death.Among 943 COVID-19 patients,909(96.4%)were severe or critical type.Of the severe or critical patients,ten(1.1%)presented without respiratory symptoms or fever at admission.The median age of the ten participants was 63 years(interquartile range(IQR):57–72),and seven participants were men.The median time from symptom onset to admission was 14 d(IQR:7–20).Eight of the ten patients had chronic diseases.The patients had fatigue(n=5),headache or dizziness(n=4),diarrhea(n=5),anorexia(n=3),nausea or vomiting(n=3),and eye discomfort(n=1).Four patients were found to have lymphopenia.Imaging examination revealed that nine patients had bilateral pneumonia and one had unilateral pneumonia.Eventually,two patients died and eight were discharged.In the discharged patients,the median time from admission to discharge lasted 24 d(IQR:13–43).In summary,some severe or critical COVID-19 patients were found to have no respiratory symptoms or fever at onset.All such atypical cases should be identified and quarantined as early as possible,since they tend to have a prolonged hospital stay or fatal outcomes.Chest computed tomography(CT)scan and nucleic acid detection should be performed immediately on close contacts of COVID-19 patients to screen out those with atypical infections,even if the contacts present without respiratory symptoms or fever at onset. | Juanjuan Xu Zhengrong Yin Yu Liu Sufei Wang Limin Duan Yi An Jinshuo Fan Tingting Liao Yang Jin Jianguo Chen | 2021 | Engineering2021,7,10: | 0 |

| 17 | Portable multi-amplified temperature sensing for tumor exosomes based on MnO_(2)/IR780 nanozyme with high photothermal effect and oxidase-like activity显示文摘Efficient determination of tumor exosomes using portable devices is crucial for the establishment of facile and convenient early cancer diagnostic methods. However, it is still challenging to effectively amplify the detection signal to achieve tumor exosomes detection with high sensitivity by portable devices. To address this issue, we developed a portable multi-amplified temperature sensing strategy for highly sensitive detecting tumor exosomes based on multifunctional manganese dioxide/IR780 nanosheets(MnO_(2)/IR780 NSs) nanozyme with high oxidase-like activity and enhanced photothermal performance.Inspiringly, MnO_(2)/IR780 NSs were synthesized via a facile one-step method with mild experimental conditions, which not only exhibited a stronger photothermal effect than that of MnO_(2) but also showed excellent oxidase-like activity that can catalyze the oxidation of 3',3',5',5'-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB) to generate TMB oxide(oxTMB) with a robust photothermal property, thus conjoining with MnO_(2)/IR780 NSs to further enhance the temperature signal. The present assay enables highly sensitive determination of tumor exosomes with the detection limit down to 5.1×10~3 particles/mL, which was comparable or superior to those of the most previously reported sensors. Furthermore, detection of tumor exosomes spiked in biological samples was successfully realized. More importantly, our method showed the recommendable portability, robust applicability, and easy manipulation.
