1The biological content of ballast water in China:A review显示文摘The introduction of species through the release of ballast water has become a major threats to marine biodiversity and ecosystem function worldwide.China is one of the top trading countries,yet little is known about exotic species in the ballast water of ships coming to its ports.Here,we review the biological surveys of ballast water from major Chinese ports.These surveys reveal that 40 species of nonindigenous phytoplankton that,belong to 25 genera and five phyla,have been observed in ballast water.The dominant species are diatoms and dinoflagellates.There were 17 red-tide causing species observed,five of which are noxious algae.Seventeen species of non-indigenous zooplankton have been reported,most of them(11)copepods.There were also 22 species of pathogenic bacteria recorded,including Vibrio alginolyticus,V.carchariae,V.parahaemolyticus,and V.vulnificus.These studies show that species introduction through ballast water potentially a serious threat to the ecology and human health in China.More research,including collaboration with the international community,is urgently needed to address this problem.Huixian Wu Chen Chen Qiong Wang Junda Lin Junzeng Xue 2017Aquaculture and Fisheries2017,2,6:11
2The osmolyte-producing endophyte Streptomyces albidoflavus OsiLf-2 induces drought and salt tolerance in rice via a multi-level mechanism显示文摘Drought and salinity are major environmental stresses that impair crop growth and productivity worldwide. Improving drought and salt tolerance of crops with microbial mutualists is an effective and environmentally sound strategy to meet the demands of the ever-growing world population. In the present study, we found that the Streptomyces albidoflavus Osi Lf-2, a moderately salt-tolerant endophytic actinomycete, produced abundant osmolytes, including proline, polysaccharides, and ectoine. Inoculation with Osi Lf-2 increased the osmotic-adjustment ability of the rice host by increasing the proline content(by250.3% and 49.4%) and soluble sugar(by 20.9% and 49.4%) in rice under drought and salt conditions, relative to the uninoculated control. Osi Lf-2 increased stress responses in the rice host at the physiological and biochemical levels(photosynthesis efficiency, osmolytes and antioxidant content), and the gene level(osmolytes synthesis, stress-responsive and ion-transport related genes), raising rice yields under both greenhouse and saline–alkaline soil conditions. 3Determination of trace Pb(Ⅱ), Cd(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) using differential pulse stripping voltammetry without Hg modification显示文摘In this work,we reported a simultaneous determination approach for Pb(II),Cd(II)and Zn(II)atμg L 1concentration levels using differential pulse stripping voltammetry on a bismuth film electrode(BiFE).The BiFE could be prepared in situ when the sample solution contained a suitable amount of Bi(NO)3,and its analytical performance was evaluated for the simultaneous determination of Pb(II),Cd(II)and Zn(II)in solutions.The determination limits were found to be 0.19μg L 1for Zn(II),and0.28μg L 1for Pb(II)and Cd(II),with a preconcentration time of 300 s.The BiFE approach was successfully applied to determine Pb(II),Cd(II)and Zn(II)in tea leaf and infusion samples,and the results were in agreement with those obtained using an atomic absorption spectrometry approach.Without Hg usage,the in situ preparation for BiFE supplied a green and acceptability sensitive method for the determination of the heavy metal ions.LIN Qi LIN HongMei ZHANG YuanHui RONG MingCong KE HuiXian TANG XinHua CHEN Xi 2013Science China Chemistry2013,56,12:2

9An almost full reversible lithium-rich cathode: Revealing the mechanism of high initial coulombic efficiency显示文摘Low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) is an important impediment to practical application of Li-rich layered oxides (LLOs), which is due to the irreversible oxygen release. It is generally considered that surface oxygen vacancies are conducive to the improvement of ICE of LLOs. To reveal the relation of oxygen vacancies and ICE, sample PLO (Li-Mn-Cr-O) and its treated product (TLO) are comprehensive investigated in this work. During the treated process, part of oxygen atoms return to original constructed vacancies. It makes oxygen vacancies in sample TLO much poorer than those in sample PLO, and induces the formation of Li-poor spinel-layered integrated structure. Electrochemical measurement indicates the ICE of sample PLO is only 80.8%, while sample TLO is almost full reversible with the ICE of ~97.1%. In term of high-energy X-ray diffraction, scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and synchrotron hard/soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we discover that the ICE is difficult to be improved significantly just by building oxygen vacancies. LLOs with high ICE not only have to construct suitable oxygen vacancies, but also require other components with Li-poor structure to stabilize oxygen. 10Cardiopulmonary prognosis of prophylactic endotracheal intubation in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding undergoing endoscopy显示文摘BACKGROUND:It is controversial whether prophylactic endotracheal intubation(PEI)protects the airway before endoscopy in critically ill patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB).The study aimed to explore the predictive value of PEI for cardiopulmonary outcomes and identify high-risk patients with UGIB undergoing endoscopy.METHODS:Patients undergoing endoscopy for UGIB were retrospectively enrolled in the eICU Collaborative Research Database(eICU-CRD).The composite cardiopulmonary outcomes included aspiration,pneumonia,pulmonary edema,shock or hypotension,cardiac arrest,myocardial infarction,and arrhythmia.The incidence of cardiopulmonary outcomes within 48 h after endoscopy was compared between the PEI and non-PEI groups.Logistic regression analyses and propensity score matching analyses were performed to estimate effects of PEI on cardiopulmonary outcomes.Moreover,restricted cubic spline plots were used to assess for any threshold effects in the association between baseline variables and risk of cardiopulmonary outcomes(yes/no)in the PEI group.RESULTS:A total of 946 patients were divided into the PEI group(108/946,11.4%)and the non-PEI group(838/946,88.6%).After propensity score matching,the PEI group(n=50)had a higher incidence of cardiopulmonary outcomes(58.0%vs.30.3%,P=0.001).PEI was a risk factor for cardiopulmonary outcomes after adjusting for confounders(odds ratio[OR]3.176,95%confidence interval[95%CI]1.567-6.438,P=0.001).The subgroup analysis indicated the similar results.A shock index>0.77 was a predictor for cardiopulmonary outcomes in patients undergoing PEI(P=0.015).The probability of cardiopulmonary outcomes in the PEI group depended on the Charlson Comorbidity Index(OR 1.465,95%CI 1.079-1.989,P=0.014)and shock index>0.77(compared with shock index≤0.77[OR 2.981,95%CI 1.186-7.492,P=0.020,AUC=0.764]).CONCLUSION:PEI may be associated with cardiopulmonary outcomes in elderly and critically ill patients with UGIB undergoing endoscopy.Furthermore,a shock index greater than 0.77 could be used as a predictor of a worse prognosis in patients undergoing PEI.Yufang Lin Fei’er Song Weiyue Zeng Yichi Han Xiujuan Chen Xuanhui Chen Yu Ouyang Xueke Zhou Guoxiang Zou Ruirui Wang Huixian Li Xin Li 2023World Journal of Emergency Medicine2023,14,5:0

12The genetic basis of the leafy seadragon's unique camouflage morphology and avenues for its efficient conservation derived from habitat modeling显示文摘The leafy seadragon certainly is among evolution’s most“beautiful and wonderful”species aptly named for its extraordinary camouflage mimicking its coastal seaweed habitat.However,limited information is known about the genetic basis of its phenotypes and conspicuous camouflage.Here,we revealed genomic signatures of rapid evolution and positive selection in core genes related to its camouflage,which allowed us to predict population dynamics for this species.Comparative genomic analysis revealed that seadragons have the smallest olfactory repertoires among all ray-finned fishes,suggesting adaptations to the highly specialized habitat.Other positively selected and rapidly evolving genes that serve in bone development and coloration are highly expressed in the leaf-like appendages,supporting a recent adaptive shift in camouflage appendage formation.Knock-out of bmp6 results in dysplastic intermuscular bones with a significantly reduced number in zebrafish,implying its important function in bone formation.Global climate change-induced loss of seagrass beds now severely threatens the continued existence of this enigmatic species.The leafy seadragon has a historically small population size likely due to its specific habitat requirements that further exacerbate its vulnerability to climate change.Therefore,taking climate change-induced range shifts into account while developing future protection strategies.Meng Qu Yingyi Zhang Zexia Gao Zhixin Zhang Yali Liu Shiming Wan Xin Wang Haiyan Yu Huixian Zhang Yuhong Liu Ralf Schneider Axel Meyer Qiang Lin 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,6:0
13Dual-site Doping to Enhance Oxygen Redox and Structural Stability of Li-rich Layered Oxides显示文摘Cobalt-free Li-rich layered oxides(LLOs)such as Li_(2)MnO_(3) have attracted extensive attention owing to their high specific capacity and low cost.Nonetheless,numerous problems such as continuous voltage fading and capacity decay have become stumbling blocks in its commercial application.In this study,we propose an effective dual-site doping strategy by choosing Mo as the cation and F as the anion to enhance the capacity and cycling performance.The researchdemonstrates that the cycling stability of LLOs enhances with the doping ratio of Mo,and their capacity increases with the doping ratio of F.It is because Mo as a pillar enhances the structural stability and F doping is conducive to the activation of Li;MnO;.What’s more,dual-site doping also promotes the diffusion of Li;and reduces the internal resistance of the electrode.Due to these improvements,the 5F3M sample still maintains a discharge capacity of 190.98 mAh g;after 100 cycles at 200 mA g^(-1),which is much higher than 165.29 mAh g;of the Pristine sample.This discovery provides a new way to develop advanced layered oxide cathodes for both Na-and Li-ion batteries.Zuhao Zhang Xiaoyan Xie Huixian Xie Xiaokai Ding Jiaxiang Cui Chenyu Liu Dong Luo Zhan Lin 2022Chinese Journal of Structural Chemistry2022,41,4:0
14Boosting electrocatalytic selectivity in carbon dioxide reduction:The fundamental role of dispersing gold nanoparticles on silicon nanowires显示文摘Carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction(CO_(2)RR)has been recognized as an efficient way to mitigate CO_(2)emissions and alleviate the pressure on global warming and associated environmental consequences.Gold(Au)is reported as stable and active electrocatalysts to convert CO_(2)to CO at low overpotential due to its moderate adsorption strength of^(*)COOH and^(*)CO.The request for improved catalytic performance,however,is motivated by current unsatisfied catalytic selectivity because of the side hydrogen evolution reaction.In this context,the design of Au based binary catalysts that can boost CO selectivity is of great interest.In the present work,we report that Au nanoparticles can be feasibly dispersed and anchored on silicon nanowires to form Au-Si binary nanomaterials.The Au-Si may stably drive CO_(2)RR with a CO Faraday efficiency of 95.6%at−0.6 V vs.RHE in 0.5 mol/L KHCO_(3)solution.Such selectivity outperforms Au particles by up to 61%.Controlled experiments illustrate that such catalytic enhancement can chiefly be ascribed to electronic effects of binary catalysts.Theoretical calculations reveal that spontaneously produced silicon oxide may not only inhibit hydrogen evolution reaction,but also stabilize the key intermediate^(*)COOH in CO formation.Fan Liao Xing Fan Huixian Shi Qing Li Mengjie Ma Wenxiang Zhu Haiping Lin Youyong Li Mingwang Shao 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,9:0
15Invasion and Morphological Variation of the Non- Indigenous Barnacle Chthamalus challengeri(Hoek, 1883) in Yangshan Port and its Surrounding Areas显示文摘Invasive species generally possess unique characteristics that allow them to survive the invasion process in order to establish and spread in new habitats. Successful invaders must resist both physical and physiological stresses associated with the changing environment. A common littoral barnacle, Chthamalus challengeri Hoek, 1883(Crustacea, Cirripedia), which is native to Japan, South Korea and northern China, has become established in the high-littoral zone adjacent to Yangshan Port, Shanghai, China. A comparison of the morphology of Chthamlus species from Zhoushan archipelago with previous description indicates the occurrence of C. challengeri. The new immigrant becomes a dominant species in certain high-intertidal habitats of the adjacent area to of Yangshan Port. C. challengeri was found in part of sampling sites in Zhoushan in 2010; however, it dispersed to all the eleven sampling sites in 2012. Densities of C.challengeri had increased over 10 times in the last 2 years, with the highest mean value reaching 39533 ± 6243 ind. m-2 in the new habitat. The specific ratios of both operculum area(Sa) to base area(SA) and average height of parietal plates(H) to length of base(L) revealed that C. challengeri displays morphological changes to resist stronger currents in the new habitats for invasion.LIU Yan XUE Junzeng LIN Junda WU Huixian 2015Journal of Ocean University of China2015,14,3:0
