| 1 | Enhancing sewage sludge dewaterability by bioleaching approach with comparison to other physical and chemical conditioning methods显示文摘The sewage sludge conditioning process is critical to improve the sludge dewaterability prior to mechanical dewatering.Traditionally,sludge is conditioned by physical or chemical approaches,mostly with the addition of inorganic or organic chemicals.Here we report that bioleaching,an efficient and economical microbial method for the removal of sludge-borne heavy metals,also plays a significant role in enhancing sludge dewaterability.The effects of bioleaching and physical or chemical approaches on sludge dewaterability were compared.The conditioning result of bioleaching by Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans on sludge dewatering was investigated and compared with the effects of hydrothermal(121°C for 2 hr),microwave(1050 W for 50 sec),ultrasonic(250 W for 2 min),and chemical conditioning(24% ferric chloride and 68% calcium oxide;dry basis).The results show that the specific resistance to filtration(SRF) or capillary suction time(CST) of sludge is decreased by 93.1% or 74.1%,respectively,after fresh sludge is conditioned by bioleaching,which is similar to chemical conditioning treatment with ferric chloride and calcium oxide but much more effective than other conditioning approaches including hydrothermal,microwave,and ultrasonic conditioning.Furthermore,after sludge dewatering,bioleached sludge filtrate contains the lowest concentrations of chroma(18 times),COD(542 mg/L),total N(TN,300 mg/L),NH 4 +-N(208 mg/L),and total P(TP,2 mg/L) while the hydrothermal process resulted in the highest concentration of chroma(660 times),COD(18,155 mg/L),TN(472 mg/L),NH 4 +-N(381 mg/L),and TP(191 mg/L) among these selected conditioning methods.Moreover,unlike chemical conditioning,sludge bioleaching does not result in a significant reduction of organic matter,TN,and TP in the resulting dewatered sludge cake.Therefore,considering sludge dewaterability and the chemical properties of sludge filtrate and resulting dewatered sludge cakes,bioleaching has potential as an approach for improving sludge dewaterability and reducing the cost of subsequent reutilization or disposal of dewatered sludge. | Fenwu Liu Jun Zhou Dianzhan Wang Lixiang Zhou | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,8: | 26 |
| 2 | Biodegradation of aniline by Candida tropicalis AN1 isolated from aerobic granular sludge显示文摘Aniline-degrading microbes were cultivated and acclimated with the initial activated sludge collected from a chemical wastewater treatment plant. During the acclimation processes, aerobic granular sludge being able to effectively degrade aniline was successfully formed, from which a preponderant bacterial strain was isolated and named as AN1. Effects of factors including pH, temperature, and second carbon/nitrogen source on the biodegradation of aniline were investigated. Results showed that the optimal conditions for the biodegradation of aniline by the strain AN1 were at pH 7.0 and 28-35°C. At the optimal pH and temperature, the biodegradation rate of aniline could reach as high as 17.8 mg/(L·hr) when the initial aniline concentration was 400 mg/L. Further studies revealed that the addition of 1 g/L glucose or ammonium chloride as a second carbon or nitrogen source could slightly enhance the biodegradation efficiency from 93.0% to 95.1%-98.5%. However, even more addition of glucose or ammonium could not further enhance the biodegradation process but delayed the biodegradation of aniline by the strain AN1. | 4 | Effect of Liuweidihuang pill and Jinkuishenqi pill on inhibition of spontaneous breast carcinoma growth in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the preventing and treating action of Liuweidihuang pill(LP) and Jinkuishenqi pill(JP) on spontaneous breast carcinoma in mice.METHODS: A model of spontaneous breast carcinoma was derived from 11.5-month-old female Kunming breeding mice following the delivery of several litters. The mice were randomly divided into five groups: model control group(C),Liuweidihuang pill high-dose group(LH; 4.6 g·kg1·d1),Liuweidihuang pill low-dose group(LL;2.3 g·kg1·d﹣1),Jinkuishenqi pill high-dose group(JH; 4.6 g·kg﹣1·d1) and Jinkuishenqi pill low-dose group(JL;2.3 g·kg﹣1·d﹣1). Cancer tissue volume was measured by water immersion. Histopathology was analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK) and cyclin D1 protein expression in cancer tissue was assayed by western blotting.RESULTS: Compared with the control group,cancer tissue volume and weight were lower in the LP and JP groups,and survival time was longer. The expression of VEGF,ERK and Cyclin D1 were inhibited in the LP and JP groups(P < 0.05),and cell differentiation was increased. | 6 | Experimental Study of Effects of Tip Geometry on the Flow Field in a Turbine Cascade Passage显示文摘This study investigates the effects of blade tip geometry on the flow field of a turbine cascade at the incidence angle of 0 degree experimentally. The tests were performed in a low-speed turbine cascade wind tunnel. The Reynolds number based on the blade chord was about 172300 at the exit. Traverses of the exit flow field were made in order to measure the overall performance. The effects of using flat tip and grooved tip with a chord-wise channel were studied. The case with the flat tip is referenced as the baseline. The tip clearances are all 1 mm measuring 0.84 percent of the blade span. The depth of channel is 2mm.The flow field at 10% chord downstream from the cascade trailing edge was measured at 38 span-wise positions and 26 pitch-wise positions using a mini five-hole pressure probe. The static pressure distribution on the tip end wall is measured at 16 pitch-wise stations and 17 chord-wise stations. Results show that there exists great pressure gradient in the pressure side for the flat tip and the pressure side squealer tip, which means strong leakage flow. The pressure gradient from the pressure side to the suction side is greatly decreased for the grooved tip, and the resulting leakage flow is weaker. The core of the leakage vortex moves closer to the suction side for the pressure side squealer tip and farther away from the suction side for the suction side squealer tip. The pressure side squealer has little advantages over the flat tip in improving the flow capacity and reducing the overall losses. | 8 | Adipocyte-derived SFRP5 inhibits breast cancer cells migration and invasion through Wnt and epithelial-mesenchymal transition signaling pathways显示文摘Objective:Obesity is closely associated with metastasis in breast cancer patients.Secreted frizzled-related protein 5(SFRP5),one of the novel adipokines with anti-inflammatory properties,is associated with obesity.This study aims to study the role of SFRP5 in the crosstalk between obesity and breast cancer metastasis and identify the underlying mechanism.Methods:3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes were differentiated to mature adipocytes and a hypertrophic adipocyte model was induced with palmitic acid(PA).Cell motility was measured in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells co-cultured with adipocytes conditioned medium(CM)with or without SFRP5 protein.Wnt and epithelialmesenchymal transition(EMT)signal pathways were investigated by western blot.Circulating SFRP5 level in 218 breast cancer patients and the association with clinicopathologic characteristics of breast cancer were further determined.Online databases ENCORI and PREDICT Plus were used to exam the link between SFRP5 and prognosis.Results:Reduced SFRP5 level was detected in the hypertrophic adipocyte model.Recombinant SFRP5 protein inhibited MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells invasion and migration induced by PA-treated adipocyte CM,and SFRP5 inhibition by specific antibody reversed the effect of SFRP5.Furthermore,SFRP5 significantly inhibited Wnt and downstream EMT in breast cancer cells.Low circulating SFRP5 level correlated with body mass index(BMI),lymph node(LN)metastasis,TNM stage and high Ki67 expression in breast cancer patients.Increased SFRP5 level was associated with favorable predicted survival.Kaplan-Meier curves showed high SFRP5 level in tumor tissue was associated with better outcome of breast cancer patients.Conclusions:Our findings demonstrated SFRP5 is a vital adipokine that mediates the crosslink between obesity and the metastatic potential of breast cancer.Promotion of SFRP5 expression in the adipose microenvironment may represent a novel approach for preventing breast cancer metastasis. | Wenzhong Zhou Chunmiao Ye Liang Li Liyuan Liu Fei Wang Lixiang Yu Fei Zhou Yujuan Xiang Yongjiu Wang Gengshen Yin Zhongbing Ma Qinye Fu Qiang Zhang Dezong Gao Shuya Huang Zhigang Yu | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2020,32,3: | 5 |

| 10 | To inhibit coffee ring effect in inkjet printing of light-emitting polymer films by decreasing capillary force显示文摘Polymer thin film with uniform thickness and flat surface profile is the key point for polymer light emitting diodes(PLEDs) by inkjet printing. However, the coffee ring effect is usually observed due to the mismatch between the evaporation of the solvent and the decrease of solution volume, which promotes the formation of radial flow from the interior of the drop to the edge. In this paper, coffee ring effects of inkjet printed poly(spirobifluorene) films were proposed to be restrained by decreasing capillary force by adding co-solvent with high boiling point and high viscosity to the main solvent. The low evaporation rate of the co-solvent can reduce the driving force of the radial flow; meanwhile the high viscosity of the co-solvent can increase the resistance of the radial flow. Thus, polymer films with improve uniformity can be obtained due to the suppression of the radial flow. | 11 | Abnormal Effective Connectivity of the Anterior Forebrain Regions in Disorders of Consciousness显示文摘A number of studies have indicated that disorders of consciousness result from multifocal injuries as well as from the impaired functional and anatomical connectivity between various anterior forebrain regions.However, the specific causal mechanism linking these regions remains unclear. In this study, we used spectral dynamic causal modeling to assess how the effective connections(ECs) between various regions differ between individuals. Next, we used connectome-based predictive modeling to evaluate the performance of the ECs in predicting the clinical scores of DOC patients. We found increased ECs from the striatum to the globus pallidus as well as from the globus pallidus to the posterior cingulate cortex, and decreased ECs from the globus pallidus to the thalamus and from the medial prefrontal cortex to the striatum in DOC patients as compared to healthy controls.Prediction of the patients' outcome was effective using the negative ECs as features. In summary, the present study highlights a key role of the thalamo-basal ganglia-cortical loop in DOCs and supports the anterior forebrain mesocircuit hypothesis. | 15 | Experimental Investigation of Effects of Suction-Side Squealer Tip Geometry on the Flow Field in a Large-scale Axial Compressor using SPIV显示文摘It is well known that the non-uniform tip geometry is a promising passive flow control technique in turbomachinery.However,detailed investigation of its effects on the unsteady flow field of turbomachinery is rare in the existiug hteratures.This paper presents an experimental investigation of effects of suction side squealer tip configuration on both the steady and unsteady flow field of an isolated compressor rotor.The flow field at 10%chord downstream from the trailing edge was measured using a mini five-hole probe.Meanwhile,the unsteady flow field inside the passage was investigated using stereo particle image velocimetry(SPIV).The steady results show that the SSQ tip configuration exerts positive effect on the static pressure rise performance of this compressor,and the radial equilibrium at the rotor outlet is obviously rearranged.The SSQ tip configuration would create a stronger tip leakage vortex at the formation phase,and it experiences a faster dissipation process around the rear chord.Also,the splitting process of the tip leakage vortex is severer,which is the main cause of the relatively higher probability of the presence of the streamwise reverse flow.The quantitatively analysis of the tip leakage vortex indicates that the velocity loss inside the blockage region is direct response of the evolutionary procedure of the tip leakage vortex.It keeps increasing until the end of the splitting process.Although the blockage coefficient grows sustainably,the velocity loss will reduce once the turbulent mixing procedure is dominant. | MA Hongwei WEI Wei WANG Lixiang TIAN Yangtao | 2015 | Journal of Thermal Science2015,24,4: | 4 |
| 16 | Adsorption of methyl orange from aqueous solution by composite magnetic microspheres of chitosan and quaternary ammonium chitosan derivative显示文摘Novel composite magnetic microspheres containing chitosan and quaternary ammonium chitosan derivative(CHMMs) were prepared by inverse suspension method,and used for the methyl orange(MO) removal from aqueous solutions.The CHMMs were characterized by a scanning electron microscope,a transmission electron microscope,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,respectively.Compared with the chitosan beads,the incorporation of quaternary ammonium chitosan derivative significantly reduced the particle size.The MO adsorption by CHMMs was investigated by batch adsorption experiments.The adsorption kinetics was conformed to the pseudo second-order kinetics equation.The adsorption isotherm followed the Langmuir model better than the Freundlich model and the calculated maximum MO adsorption capacity was 266.6 mg·g^-1 at 293 K.Thermodynamic studies indicated that the MO adsorption was endothermic in nature with the enthalpy change(△H°) of 99.44 kJ·mol^-1.The CHMMs had a stable performance for MO adsorption in the pH range of 4-10,but high ionic strength deteriorated the MO removal due to the shielding of the ion exchange interaction.A 1 mol·L^-1 NaCl solution could be used to regenerate the exhausted CHMMs.The proposed CHMMs can be used as an effective adsorbent for dye removal or recovery from the dye wastewater. | Bin Zhao Xiaojing Sun Liang Wang Lixiang Zhao Zhaohui Zhang Junjing Li | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2019,27,8: | 3 |

| 18 | Discovery of Late Carboniferous strata and their tectonic significance in the southern margin of the North China Block(Huoqiu and Gushi areas)显示文摘Late Carboniferous fossils(such as Boultonia? sp., Tabulata, and spiriferoid specimens with smooth shells), bioclastic material(such as crinoid stems and sponge fragments), and Late Ordovician microfossils of the conodont Belodina have been discovered in the lower part of the strata typically referred to as the Neoproterozoic on the boundary of the provinces of Anhui and Henan in the southern margin of the North China Block. These findings prove that the strata contain macrofossils belonging to the Late Carboniferous, which belonged to a carbonate debris flow deposit that was formed under a carbonate slope environment. The conodont fossils might belong to a detrital deposit.
