1An option for green and sustainable future: Electrochemical conversion of ammonia into nitrogen显示文摘Green and sustainable options are needed to ease the current energy and environmental crisis, and alleviate the greenhouse effect and energy shortage. As an alternative carbon–neutral synthetic fuel, ammonia shows great potential due to its high energy density, non-toxic by-products, and mature related infrastructures. However, related practical applications have been severely hampered on ammoniaoxidation due to the high cost of catalysts and immature energy utilization systems. Here, we comprehensively summarized the efforts which have been made in recent years with the aim of providing a deep sight into the development and deficiencies in this territory and trying to establish a simple framework of basic knowledge for researchers. The exploration of mechanism is discussed first and then the relevant catalysts studied in recent years are summarized. 2A 5'-flanking region polymorphism in toll-like receptor 4 is associated with gastric cancer in a Chinese population显示文摘Objective:Inflammation induced by H.pylori colonization in the stomach is related to the development of gastric cancer and the genetic variations of the genes involved in the immune responses modify the host response to the infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether polymorphisms in the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene, a key regulator of both innate and adaptive immunity, were related to the susceptibility togastric cancer in a Chinese population. Methods: Two variations in the 5'-flanking region of TLR4 (rs1927914 T>C and rs10759932 T>C) were genotyped by using the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assay in a case-control study of 1,053 incident gastric cancer cases and 1,100 cancer-free controls in a Chinese population. Results: Individuals carrying the C allele of rs10759932 had a significantly reduced risk of gastric cancer (adjusted OR=0.81; 95%CI=0.67-0.96), compared with the wild-type homozygote (TT), and the protective effect was not significantly different among subgroups stratified by age, sex, smoking, drinking and H.pylori infection status (P for heterogeneity >0.05). No significant association was observed between rs1927914 and gastric cancer risk in this study population. Conclusion: The T to C allele substitution of rs10759932 may play a protective role in gastric carcinogenesis in a Chinese population. 3SDSA: A Framework of a Software-Defi ned Security Architecture显示文摘The fact that the security facilities within a system are closely coupled and the security facilities between systems are unconnected results in an isolated protection structure for systems, and gives rise to a serious challenge to system security integrations and system controls. Also, the need for diversified services and flexible extensions of network security asks for more considerations and contribu?tions from the perspective of software engineering in the process of designing and constructing security systems. Based on the essence of the virtualization technique and the idea of software-defined networks, we in this paper propose a novel software-defi ned security architecture for systems. 12A hybrid flexible gas sensory system with perceptual learning显示文摘Imbuing artificial sensory system with intelligence of the biological counterpart is limited by challenges in emulating perceptual learning ability at the device level.In biological systems,stimuli from the surrounding environment are detected,transmitted,and processed by receptor,afferent nerve,and brain,respectively.This process allows the living creatures to identify the potential hazards and improve their adaptability in various environments.Here,inspired by the biological olfaction system,a gas sensory system with perceptual learning is developed.As a proof-of-concept,H2S gas with various concentrations is used as the stimulation and the stimuli will be converted to pulse-like physiological signals in the designed system,which consists of a gas sensor,a flexible oscillator,and a memristor-type artificial synapse.Furthermore,the learning ability is implemented using a supervised learning method based on k-nearest neighbors(KNN)algorithm.The recognition accuracy can be enhanced by repeating training,illustrating a great potential to be used as the neuromorphic sensory system with a learning ability for the applications in robotics.Qifeng Lu Fuqin Sun Yanbing Dai Yingyi Wang Lin Liu Zihao Wang Shuqi Wang Ting Zhang 2022Nano Research2022,15,1:0
13Structure-guided protein design of fluoroacetate dehalogenase for kinetic resolution of rac-2-bromobutyric acid显示文摘R-2-Bromobutyric acid is a very important intermediate for the synthesis of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals.Bioresolution of rac-2-bromobutyric acid(rac-2-BBA)provides a promising process for R-2-bromobutyric acid(R-2-BBA)production.The fluoroacetate dehalogenase(FAcD)has been always studied in the defluorination process.We found that FAcD RPA1163 showed detectable activity but no enantioselectivity towards rac-2-BBA.The iterative saturation mutagenesis(ISM)of FAcD RPA1163 resulted in a mutant H155V/W156R/Y219M,which catalyzed the kinetic resolution of rac-2-BBA to produce R-2-BBA with enhanced activity and enantioselectivity(99.3%ee).The high preference for S-2-bromobutyric acid(S-2-BBA)is of synthetic value.Molecular docking analysis indicated that the H155V/W156R/Y219M mutation reduced steric hindrance and broadened the halide pocket.It is not only the steric hindrance but also the electrostatic environment that has an effect on the activity and enantioselectivity.Shu Wang Zhanbing Cheng Yanbing Xu Lu Yang Jian-Bo Wang Zhenhua Tian Xudong Qu 2020Green Synthesis and Catalysis2020,1,1:0
14From tuberculosis bedside to bench:UBE2B splicing as a potential biomarker and its regulatory mechanism显示文摘Alternative splicing(AS)is an important approach for pathogens and hosts to remodel transcriptome.However,tuberculosis(TB)-related AS has not been sufficiently explored.Here we presented the first landscape of TB-related AS by long-read sequencing,and screened four AS events(S100A8-intron1-retention intron,RPS20-exon1-alternaitve promoter,KIF13B-exon4-skipping exon(SE)and UBE2B-exon7-SE)as potential biomarkers in an in-house cohort-1.The validations in an in-house cohort-2(2274 samples)and public datasets(1557 samples)indicated that the latter three AS events are potential promising biomarkers for TB diagnosis,but not for TB progression and prognosis.The excellent performance of classifiers further underscored the diagnostic value of these three biomarkers.Subgroup analyses indicated that UBE2B-exon7-SE splicing was not affected by confounding factors and thus had relatively stable performance.The splicing of UBE2B-exon7-SE can be changed by heat-killed mycobacterium tuberculosis through inhibiting SRSF1 expression.After heat-killed mycobacterium tuberculosis stimulation,231 ubiquitination proteins in macrophages were differentially expressed,and most of them are apoptosis-related proteins.Taken together,we depicted a global TB-associated splicing profile,developed TB-related AS biomarkers,demonstrated an optimal application scope of target biomarkers and preliminarily elucidated mycobacterium tuberculosis-host interaction from the perspective of splicing,offering a novel insight into the pathophysiology of TB.Mengyuan Lyu Jian Zhou Yanbing Zhou Weelic Chong Wei Xu Hongli Lai Lu Niu Yang Hai Xiaojun Yao Sheng Gong Qinglan Wang Yi Chen Yili Wang Liyu Chen Zengwanggema Jiongjiong Zeng Chengdi Wang Binwu Ying 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,3:0
15UV-B promotes flavonoid biosynthesis in Ginkgo biloba by inducing the GbHY5-GbMYB1-GbFLS module显示文摘Ginkgo biloba(ginkgo)leaves have medicinal value due to their high levels of secondary metabolites,such as flavonoids.We found that the flavonoid content in ginkgo leaves increases significantly at high altitudes(Qinghai-Tibet Plateau).Considering that high UV-B radiation is among the key environmental characteristics of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,we carried out simulated UV-B treatments on ginkgo seedlings and found that the flavonoid content of the leaves increased significantly following the treatments.Combined with results from our previous studies,we determined that the transcription factor GbHY5 may play a key role in responses to UV-B radiation.Overexpression of GbHY5 significantly promoted the accumulation of flavonoids in both ginkgo callus and Arabidopsis thaliana.Furthermore,yeast two-hybrid and real-time quantitative PCR showed that GbHY5 promoted the expression of GbMYB1 by interacting with GbMYB1 protein.Overexpression of GbMYB1 in ginkgo callus and A.thaliana also significantly promoted flavonoid biosynthesis.GbFLS encodes a key enzyme in flavonoid biosynthesis,and its promoter has binding elements of GbHY5 and GbMYB1.A dual-luciferase reporter assay indicated that while GbHY5 and GbMYB1 activated the expression of GbFLS individually,their co-expression achieved greater activation.Our analyses reveal the molecular mechanisms by which the UV-B-induced GbHY5-GbMYB1-GbFLS module promotes flavonoid biosynthesis in ginkgo,and they provide insight into the use of UV-B radiation to enhance the flavonoid content of ginkgo leaves.Sian Liu Xiaoyin Gu Yanbing Jiang Lu Wang Nan Xiao Yadi Chen Biao Jin Li Wang Weixing Li 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,8:0
16Unravelling the role of boron dopant in borocarbonitirde catalytic dehydrogenation reaction显示文摘Borocarbonitride(BCN) materials are newly developed metal-free catalytic materials exhibiting high selectivity in oxidative dehydrogenation(ODH) of alkanes. However, the in-depth understandings on the role of boron(B) dopants and the intrinsic activities of –C=O and –B–OH still remain unknown.Herein, we report a series of BCN materials with regulable B content and surface oxygen functional groups via self-assembly and pyrolysis of guanine and boric acid. We found that the B/C ratio is the key parameter to determine the activity of ODH and product distribution. Among them, the high ethylbenzene conversion(~57%) and styrene selectivity(~83%) are achieved in ODH for B_(1)CN. The styrene selectivity can be improved by increasing of B/C ratio and this value reaches near 100% for B_5CN.Structural characterizations and kinetic measurements indicate that –C=O and –B–OH dual sites on BCN are real active sites of ODH reaction. The intrinsic activity of –C=O(5.556 × 10^(-4)s^(-1)) is found to be 23.7 times higher than –B–OH(0.234 × 10^(-4)s^(-1)) site. More importantly, we reveal that the deep oxidation to undesirable CO_(2) occurs on –C=O rather than –B–OH site, and B dopant in BCN materials can reduce the nucleophilicity of –C=O site to eliminate the CO_(2) emission. 17Base-or acid-assisted polystyrene plastic degradation in supercritical CO_(2)显示文摘Plastic has caused serious'white pollution'to the environment,and the highly inert characteristics of plastic bring a major challenge for degradation.Supercritical fluids have unique physical properties and have been widely used in various fields.In this work,supercritical CO_(2)(Sc-CO_(2))with mild conditions was selected and assisted by NaOH/HCl solution to degrade polystyrene(PS)plastic,and the reaction model was designed using response surface methodology(RSM).It was found that,regardless of the types of assistance solutions,the factors affecting PS degradation efficiencies were reaction temperature,reaction time,and NaOH/HCl concentration.At the temperature of 400℃,time of 120 min,and base/acid concentration of 5%(in weight),0.15 g PS produced 126.88/116.99±5 mL of gases with 74.18/62.78±5 mL of H2,and consumed 81.2/71.5±5 mL of CO_(2).Sc-CO_(2)created a homogeneous environment,which made PS highly dispersed and uniformly heated,thus promoting the degradation of PS.Moreover,Sc-CO_(2)also reacted with the degradation products to produce new CO and more CH_(4)and C_(2)H_(x)(x=4,6).Adding NaOH/HCl solution not only improved the solubility of PS in Sc-CO_(2),but also provided a base/acid environment that reduced the activation energy of the reaction,and effectively improved the degradation efficiencies of PS.In short,degrading PS in Sc-CO_(2)is feasible,and better results are obtained with the assistance of base/acid solution,which can provide a reference for the disposal of waste plastics in the future.Yanbing Liu Jinwen Shi Liuhao Mao Bingru Lu Xing Kang Hui Jin 2023Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2023,5,2:0
18Archaea, the tree of life, and cellular evolution in eukaryotes显示文摘The early history of life harbours many unresolved evolutionary questions, none more important than the genomic origin and cellular evolution of eukaryotes. An issue central to eukaryote origin concerns the position of eukaryotes in the tree of life and the relationship of the host lineage that acquired the mitochondrion some two billion years ago to lineages of modern-day archaea. Recent analyses indicate that the host lineage branches within the Archaea, prompting the search for novel archaeal lineages that can improve our understanding of the cellular evolution of eukaryotes. Here we give a brief review of the studies on Archaea, the tree of life and the cellular evolution of eukaryotes, which is followed by an overview of recent progress fueled by new genomic technologies and recent status of archaeal research in China. 19Urban development and resource endowments shape natural resource utilization efficiency in Chinese cities显示文摘Improving the efficiency with which natural resources are utilized is an indispensable for achieving sustainable development and carbon neutrality. By analyzing the utilization efficiency of energy, water, and land, we established a comprehensive natural resource utilization efficiency index(NRUEI). We then calculated the 2016 index for 165 cities in China,and investigated what caused it to vary. We found three main results:(1) the NRUEI varied greatly across China and there were significant positive correlations between urban energy utilization efficiency(EUE), water utilization efficiency(WUE) and land utilization efficiency(LUE);(2) the NRUEI showed a significant positive correlation with a city’s population size,economy(Gross Domestic Product(GDP)), and the level of urban social development(GDP per capita);(3) cities in East China have the highest natural resource utilization efficiency,while cities in Northeast China have the lowest. These results indicate that China’s increasing urban development is associated with rising natural resource utilization efficiency and that the city’s endowment of natural resources is an important factor affecting that efficiency. Further, the results showed that the determinants of a city’s NRUEI differed in large and small cities. Lastly, our results suggest that improving EUE is key for improving NRUEI in urban China, and different efficiencies can be improved intertwined.
