| 1 | Nucleoporin 88 expression in hepatitis B and C virus-related liver diseases显示文摘AIM: To investigate the expression of nucleoporin 88 (Nup88) in hepatitis B virus (HBV) and C virus (HCV)-related liver diseases. METHODS: We generated a new monoclonal Nup88 antibody to investigate the Nup88 protein expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 294 paraffin-embedded liver specimens comprising all stages of hepatocellular carcinogenesis. In addition, in cell culture experiments HBV-positive (HepG2.2.15 and HB611) and HBV-negative (HepG2) hepatoma cell lines were tested for the Nup88 expression by Western-immunoblotting to test data obtained by IHC.RESULTS: Specific Nup88 expression was found in chronic HCV hepatitis and unspecific chronic hepatitis, whereas no or very weak Nup88 expression was detected in normal liver. The Nup88 expression was markedly reduced or missing in mild chronic HBV infection and inversely correlated with HBcAg expression. Irrespective of the HBV- or HCV-status, increasing Nup88 expression was observed in cirrhosis and dysplastic nodules, and Nup88 was highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinomas. The intensity of Nup88 expression significantly increased during carcinogenesis (P < 0.0001) and correlated with dedifferentiation (P < 0.0001). Interestingly, Nup88 protein expression was significantly downregulated in HBV-positive HepG2.2.15 (P < 0.002) and HB611 (P < 0.001) cell lines as compared to HBV-negative HepG2 cells. CONCLUSION: Based on our immunohistochemical data, HBV and HCV are unlikely to influence the expression of Nup88 in cirrhotic and neoplastic liver tissue, but point to an interaction of HBV with the nuclear pore in chronic hepatitis. The expression of Nup88 in nonneoplastic liver tissue might reflect enhanced metabolic activity of the liver tissue. Our data strongly indicate a dichotomous role for Nup88 in non-neoplastic and neoplastic conditions of the liver. | Martina Knoess Anna Kordelia Kurz Olga Goreva Nuran Bektas Kai Breuhahn Magarethe Odenthal Peter Schirmacher Hans Peter Dienes C Thomas Bock Hanswalter Zentgraf Axel zur Hausen | 2006 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2006,12,36: | 4 |
| 2 | General characteristics of patients with electrolyte imbalance admitted to emergency department显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fluid and electrolyte balance is a key concept to understand for maintaining homeostasis, and for a successful treatment of many metabolic disorders. There are various regulating mechanisms for the equilibrium of electrolytes in organisms.Disorders of these mechanisms result in electrolyte imbalances that may be life-threatening clinical conditions. In this study we defined the electrolyte imbalance characteristics of patients admitted to our emergency department.METHODS:This study was conducted in the Emergency Department(ED) of Uludag University Faculty of Medicine, and included 996 patients over 18 years of age.All patients had electrolyte imbalance, with various etiologies other than traumatic origin.Demographic and clinical parameters were collected after obtaining informed consent from the patients. The ethical committee of the university approved this study.RESULTS:The mean age of the patients was 59.28±16.79,and 55%of the patients were male. The common symptoms of the patients were dyspnea(14.7%),fever(13.7%),and systemic deterioration(11.9%);but the most and least frequent electrolyte imbalances were hyponatremia and hypermagnesemia, respectively. Most frequent findings in physical examination were confusion(14%),edema(10%) and rales(9%);and most frequent pathological findings in ECG were tachycardia in24%,and atrial fibrillation in 7%of the patients. Most frequent comorbidity was malignancy(39%).Most frequent diagnoses in the patients were sepsis(11%),pneumonia(9%),and acute renal failure(7%).CONCLUSIONS:Electrolyte imbalances are of particular importance in the treatment of ED patients. Therefore,ED physicians must be acknowledged of their fluid-electrolyte balance dynamics and general characteristics. | Arif Kadri Balci Ozlem Koksal Ataman Kose Erol Armagan Fatma Ozdemir Taylan Inal Nuran Oner | 2013 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2013,4,2: | 3 |

| 15 | Restoration of severe hypodontia associated with microdontia by using an overdenture: a clinical report显示文摘Dental abnormalities associated with specific syndromes and/or severe systemic abnormalities in tooth number, form or size are challenging cases in dentistry, affecting esthetics and function. 1 Microdontia is used to term abnormally small teeth that generally the maxillary lateral incisor or third molar is involved. On the other hand, the entire dentition may be affected as well. 1 Prevalence of microdontia range from 1.5%-2%. 2 The definition of severe hypodontia is four or more lacking teeth. 3-5 The prevalence of severe hypodontia was found to be less than 1% of the unselected population. 6 In another study hypo-dontia is seen with a higher incidence in the permanent dentition (3.5%-6.5%), compared to that of the primary one (0.1%-0.9%). 7 The etiology seems to be inheritance in most cases of hypodontia. However, some are caused by mechanical trauma to jaws during tooth formation, by infection or by the effects of cytostatica and radiation during cancer treatment. 6 There are more than 160 syndromes combined with hypo-dontia. 6 Some of them are ectodermal dysplasia, Rieger syndrome and incontinentia pigmenti. In such cases morphological aberrancies as microdontia and conical crowns may be additional features. 6 In addition to the number of lacking teeth, tooth eruption, occlusion and craniofacial parameters are influenced. The present paper reports the use of maxillary and mandibular overdenture removable complete dentures to treat a patient with class Ⅲ skeletal malocclusion, reduced vertical dimension of occlusion and unacceptable esthetics caused by a rare case of hypodontia and microdontia. | Nuran zyemi■ci | 2005 | Chinese Medical Journal2005,,4: | 1 |
