| 1 | N-acetylcysteine attenuates oxidative stress and liver pathology in rats with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis显示文摘AIM: To evaluate attenuating properties of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on oxidative stress and liver pathology in rats with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 (control, n = 8) was free accessed to regular dry rat chow (RC) for 6 wk. Group 2 (NASH, n = 8) was fed with 100% fat diet for 6 wk. Group 3 (NASH + NAC20, n = 9) was fed with 100% fat diet plus 20 mg/kg per day of NAC orally for 6 wk. All rats were sacrificed to collect blood and liver samples at the end of the study. RESULTS: The levels of total glutathione (GSH) and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) were increased significantly in the NASH group as compared with the control group (GSH; 2066.7 ± 93.2 vs 1337.5 ± 31.5 μmol/L and MDA; 209.9± 43.9 vs 3.8 ±1.7 μmol/g protein, respectively, P < 0.05). Liver histopathology from group 2 showed moderate to severe macrovesicular steatosis, hepatocyte ballooning, and necroinflammation. NAC treatment improved the level of GSH (1394.8 ± 81.2 μmol/L, P < 0.05), it did not affect MDA (150.1 ± 27.0 μmol/g protein), but led to a decrease in fat deposition and necroinflammation. | 3 | How to spot ocular abnormalities in progressive supranuclear palsy?A practical review显示文摘differential diagnosis.PSP presents a range of ocular abnormalities that have been suggested as optional tools for its early detection,apart from the principal characteristic of postural unsteadiness.Nonetheless,such symptoms may be difficult to identify,particularly during the early onset stage of the disorder.It may also be problematic to recognize these symptoms for general practitioners who lack the required experience or physicians who are not specifically educated and proficient in ophthalmology or neurology.Main body:Thus,here,a methodical evaluation was carried out to identify seven oculomotor abnormalities occurring in PSP,comprising square wave jerks,the speed and range of saccades(slow saccades and vertical supranuclear gaze palsy),‘round the houses’sign,decreased blink rate,blepharospasm,and apraxia of eyelid opening.Inspections were conducted using direct visual observation.An approach to distinguish these signs during a bedside examination was also established.When presenting in a patient with parkinsonism or dementia,the existence of such ocular abnormalities could increase the risk of PSP.For the distinction between PSP and other parkinsonian disorders,these signs hold significant value for physicians.Conclusion:The authors urge all concerned physicians to check for such abnormalities with the naked eye in patients with parkinsonism.This method has advantages,including ease of application,reduced time-consumption,and requirement of minimal resources.It will also help physicians to conduct efficient diagnoses since many patients with PSP could intially present with ocular symptoms in busy outpatient clinics. | Onanong Phokaewvarangkul Roongroj Bhidayasiri | 2019 | Translational Neurodegeneration2019，8，1： | 1 |

| 5 | Stereocomplexation and Mechanical Properties of Polylactide-bpoly(propylene glycol)-b-polylactide Blend Films: Effects of Polylactide Block Length and Blend Ratio显示文摘In the present work, poly(propylene glycol)(PPG) was block copolymerized to form polylactide-poly(propylene glycol)-polylactide(PL-PPG-PL) triblock copolymers for preparing flexible stereocomplex PL(sc PL) blend films. The sc PL blend films were prepared by solution blending of poly(L-lactide)-PPG-poly(L-lactide)(PLL-PPG-PLL) and poly(D-lactide)-PPG-poly(D-lactide)(PDL-PPG-PDL) triblock copolymers before film casting. The influences of PL end-block lengths(2×10~4 and 4×10~4 g/mol) and blend ratios(75/25, 50/50 and 25/75 W/W) on the stereocomplexation and mechanical properties of the blend films were evaluated. From DSC and WAXD results, the 50/50 blend films had complete stereocomplexation. Phase separation between the sc PL and PPG phases was not observed from their SEM images. The tensile stress and elongation at break increased with the sterecomplex crystallinities and PL end-block lengths. The PPG middle-blocks enhanced elongation at break of the sc PL films. The results showed that the PL-PPG-PL triblock structures did not affect stereocomplexation of the PLL/PDL block blending.
