| 1 | Discovery of ultrahigh-pressure magnesite-bearing garnet lherzolite (>3.8 GPa) in the Altyn Tagh, Northwest China显示文摘Magnesite-bearing garnet Iherzolite from the Altyn Tagh, associated with garnet pyroxenite, and garnet-bearing felsic gneiss, crops out as lenses in Proterozoic gneiss about 100 km east of the Jianggelasayi River. The garnet Iherzolite, together with the eclogite in western Jianggelasayi, composes a high-pressure to ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt in the southern margin of the Altyn Tagh. Parageneses of minerals from magnesite-bearing garnet Iherzolite indicate that the rock evolved a multi-stage metamorphism. The peak-stage metamorphism produces an assemblage of Grt+Ol+Opx+Cpx±Mgs, in which A12O3 content of Opxis very low (0.30-0.66wt%). The calculated P-T condition of the peak stage is 3.8-5.lGPa and 880-970°C, some exsolution rods of clinopyroxene and rutile occur in the Grt and magnesite is rimed by dolomite and orthopyroxene, all implying that the peak stage was a UHP metamorphic process. | 2 | Opening of an early Paleozoic limited oceanic basin in the northern Altyn area: Constraints from plagiogranites in the Hongliugou-Lapeiquan ophiolitic mélange显示文摘This paper reports petrological and geochemical features and zircon U-Pb age of plagiogranite from the Hongliugou-Lapeiquan ophiolitic mélange belt in the northern Altyn Tagh. The zircon U-Pb dating results yield a mean 238U/206Pb age of 512.1 - 1.5 Ma, representing an emplacement time of the plagiogranites in the Middle Cambrian. The plagiogranites are interpreted to have derived from anatexis of hydrated amphibolites by ductile shearing during transports of the oceanic crust. Thus it is believed that the formation age of such type of plagiogranite was coeval to or slightly younger than the spreading of the Hongliugou-Lapeiquan limited oceanic basin. | 4 | A new control design for a morphing UAV based on disturbance observer and command filtered backstepping techniques显示文摘Morphing unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) can manipulate its shape for excellent flight performance under different conditions.The most research of the morphing UAV focuses on modeling. However, the issues including nonlinear characteristics, strong couplings, and mismatched disturbances are inevitable, which can lead to a great challenge in controller design. In this paper,a composite anti-disturbance controller is developed for morphing UAV to achieve enhanced flight performance under multiple sources of disturbances. In the inner loop, a nonlinear disturbance observer(DO) is constructed to estimate the inertial forces and moment;while in the outer loop, the command filtered backstepping(CFBS) method is adopted to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system. The system outputs can promptly track reference signals in the morphing process of the UAV. The novelty is that the disturbance estimations are added into the control laws to compensate the mismatched disturbances. | 5 | A Scenario-Based Evaluation of COVID-19-Related Essential Clinical Resource Demands in China显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is a global crisis,and medical systems in many countries are overwhelmed with supply shortages and increasing demands to treat patients due to the surge in cases and severe illnesses.This study aimed to assess COVID-19-related essential clinical resource demands in China,based on different scenarios involving COVID-19 spreads and interventions.We used a susceptible–exposed–infectious–hospitalized/isolated–removed(SEIHR)transmission dynamics model to estimate the number of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations with corresponding essential healthcare resources needed.We found that,under strict non-pharmaceutical interventions(NPIs)or mass vaccination of the population,China would be able to contain community transmission and local outbreaks rapidly.However,under scenarios involving a low intensity of implemented NPIs and a small proportion of the population vaccinated,the use of a peacetime–wartime transition model would be needed for medical source stockpiles and preparations to ensure a normal functioning healthcare system.The implementation of COVID-19 vaccines and NPIs in different periods can influence the transmission of COVID-19 and subsequently affect the demand for clinical diagnosis and treatment.An increased proportion of asymptomatic infections in simulations will not reduce the demand for medical resources;however,attention must be paid to the increasing difficulty in containing COVID-19 transmission due to asymptomatic cases.This study provides evidence for emergency preparations and the adjustment of prevention and control strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.It also provides guidance for essential healthcare investment and resource allocation. | Ting Zhang Qing Wang Zhiwei Leng Yuan Yang Jin Yang Fangyuan Chen Mengmeng Jia Xingxing Zhang Weiran Qi Yunshao Xu Siya Chen Peixi Dai Libing Ma Luzhao Feng Weizhong Yang | 2021 | Engineering2021,7,7: | 7 |
| 6 | Carbon assimilation characteristics of plants in oasis-desert ecotone and their response to CO_2 enrichment显示文摘Six species of more than 20-year-old desert woody plants in the oasis-desert ecotone were selected for study. The results showed that: (1) in different growing seasons δ13 C values of assimilating organ varied between -14‰ and -16‰ for Haloxylon ammodendron (HA),-14‰ - -15‰ for Calligonum mongolicum (CM) and -25‰ - -28‰ for Caragana korshinskii (CK), Nitraria sphaerocarpa (NS) and Hedysarum scoparium (HS). (2) The net photosynthetic rate (Pn) of HA and CM was significantly higher than those of the other species. With the decrease in Pn for the six species, their intercellular CO2 concentration increased, but stomatal limitation value decreased under the intensive light. At the same time, the photochemical efficiency of PS Ⅱ dropped to different degrees. (3) The CO2 enrichment experiment demonstrated that, Pn of HA and CM increased to different extent under 450 μmol/mol, but their Pn reduced or approximated to the current condition under 650 μmol/mol. Under 450 μmol/mol the efficiency for solar energy utilization of CK and HS significantly reduced and under 650 μmol/mol their respiration rate exceeded photosynthesis rate. It can be concluded that HA and CM have some function of pathway for C4, but the other three species have the function for C3. The decline in their Pn is mainly caused by non-stomatal factors. HA, CM, CK and HS exhibited photoinhibition, which disappeared in a short time. This is a kind of positive readjustment to adapting to the desert environment. HA and CM can adapt to the high CO2 environment, but CKand HS cannot. | 7 | Response of root traits of Reaumuria soongorica and Salsola passerina to facilitation显示文摘C3 plant Reaumuria soongorica and C4 plant Salsola passerina are super xerophytes and coexist in a mixed community in either isolated or associated growth, and interspecific facilitation occurs in associated growth. In the present study, the root traits including root distribution, root length(RL), root surface area(RSA), root weight(RW) and specific root length(SRL) of both species in two growth forms were investigated to clarify their response to facilitation in associated growth. Six isolated plants of each species, as well as six associated plants similar in size and development were selected during the plant growing season, and their roots were excavated at 0–10, 10–20, 20–30, 30–40 and 40–50 cm soil depths at the end of the growing season. All the roots of each plant were separated into the two categories of fine roots(<2 mm diameter) and coarse roots(≥2 mm diameter). Root traits such as RL and RSA in the fine and coarse roots were obtained by the root analyzing system WinRHIZO. Most of the coarse roots in R. soongorica and S. passerina were distributed in the top 10 cm of the soil in both growth forms, whereas the fine roots of the two plant species were found mainly in the 10–20 and 20–30 cm soil depths in isolated growth, respectively. However, the fine roots of both species were mostly overlapped in 10–20 cm soil depth in associated growth. The root/canopy ratios of both species reduced, whereas the ratios of their fine roots to coarse roots in RL increased, and both species had an increased SRL in the fine roots in associated growth. In addition, there was the increase in RL of fine roots and content of root N for S. passerina in associated growth. | 8 | The Incoming Influenza Season—China,the United Kingdom,and the United States,2021–2022显示文摘Introduction:Seasonal influenza activity has declined globally since the widespread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)transmission.There has been scarce information to understand the future dynamics of influenza—and under different hypothesis on relaxation of nonpharmaceutical interventions(NPIs)in particular—after the disruptions to seasonal patterns.Methods:We collected data from public sources in China,the United Kingdom,and the United States,and forecasted the influenza dynamics in the incoming 2021–2022 season under different NPIs.We considered Northern China and Southern China separately,due to the sharp difference in the patterns of seasonal influenza.For the United Kingdom,data were collected for England only.Results:Compared to the epidemics in 2017–2019,longer and blunter influenza outbreaks could occur should NPIs be fully lifted,with percent positivity varying from 10.5 to 18.6 in the studying regions.The rebounds would be smaller if the maskwearing intervention continued or the international mobility stayed low,but sharper if the mask-wearing intervention was lifted in the middle of influenza season.Further,influenza activity could stay low under a much less stringent mask-wearing intervention coordinated with influenza vaccination.Conclusions:The results added to our understandings of future influenza dynamics after the global decline during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.In light of the uncertainty on the incoming circulation strains and the relatively low negative impacts of mask wearing on society,our findings suggested that wearing mask could be considered as an accompanying mitigation measure in influenza prevention and control,especially for seasons after long periods of low-exposure to influenza viruses.Seasonal influenza activity declines globally during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic(1–4).For instance,in China,influenza activity,as measured by percentage of submitted specimens testing positive,dropped from 11.8%to 2.0%in 2020–2021 influenza season,compared to the past 5 years(5).The long-period of low-exposure to influenza viruses adds great uncertainty on preparedness for the incoming 2021–2022 influenza season.Influenza vaccination is one of the most effective measures in seasonal influenza prevention and control,but with only a few influenza viruses circulating,it could be difficult to determine the targeted strains for vaccination.In this context,it is of primary importance to identify alternative mitigation measures for the incoming 2021–2022 influenza season,the first season after long periods of virtually no influenza outbreaks worldwide.Using data from China,the United Kingdom,and the United States,we forecasted the influenza activity in the incoming 2021–2022 influenza season under hypothetical scenarios without non-pharmaceutical interventions(NPIs)and with different assumptions on mask-wearing and mobility levels. | Shasha Han Ting Zhang Yan Lyu Shengjie Lai Peixi Dai Jiandong Zheng Weizhong Yang Xiaohua Zhou Luzhao Feng | 2021 | China CDC weekly2021,3,49: | 3 |

| 10 | Destruction of the Northern Margin of the North China Craton in Mid-Late Triassic: Evidence from Asthenosphere-derived Mafic Enclaves in the Jiefangyingzi Granitic Pluton from the Chifeng Area, Southern Inner Mongolia显示文摘The petrology, geochronology and geochemistry of the mafic enclaves in the Mid-Late Triassic Jiefangyingzi pluton from Chifeng area, southern Inner Mongolia, in China are studied to reveal their petrogenetic relationship with the host pluton. Furthermore, the coeval magmatic assemblage and its petrogenesis on the northern margin of the North China craton(NCC) are studied synthetically to elucidate their tectonic setting and the implications for the destruction of the NCC. Zircon U-Pb dating reveals that the mafic enclaves formed at 230.4 ± 2.2 Ma, which is similar to the age of the host pluton. The most basic mafic enclaves belong to weak alkaline rocks, and they display rare earth element(REE) and trace element normalized patterns and trace element compositions similar to those of ocean island basalt(OIB). In addition, they have positive εNd(t) values(+3.84 to +4.94) similar to those of the Cenozoic basalts on the northern margin of the NCC. All of these geochemical characteristics suggest that the basic mafic rocks originated from the asthenosphere. Petrological and geochemical studies suggest that the Jiefangyingzi pluton and the intermediate mafic enclaves were formed by the mixing of the asthenosphere-derived and crust-derived magmas in different degrees. The Mid-Late Triassic magmatic rocks on the northern margin of the NCC could be classified into three assemblages according to their geochemical compositions: alkaline series, weak alkaline–sub-alkaline series and sub-alkaline series rocks. Petrogenetic analyses suggest that the upwelling of the asthenosphere played an important role in the formation of these Mid-Late Triassic magmatic rocks. | 11 | Interpretation of Temperature Profiles during Soak Periods in Steam-stimulated Wells显示文摘To address the problems existing in testing steam injection profiles in a steam-stimulated well during steam injection and production periods,this paper proposes that the temperature profile in the completion interval could be tested during the soak period. A mathematical model for calculating the vertical distribution of temperature in a single layer reservoir is established based on the temperature characteristics of steam stimulated reservoirs,and the vertical distribution of temperature in a single layer reservoir could be obtained and heat loss could be calculated. The temperature,which is disturbed by thermal conduction in a multilayer reservoir,and heat loss could be derived based on the superposition principle of temperature potential. This paper establishes a multilayer testing temperature profile interpretation method and interprets the actual test temperature profile of Well Gao 3-7-66. | 17 | Comparison of anatomical structure and photosynthetic characteristics between the two photosynthetic organs of the desert plant Hedysarum scoparium显示文摘The desert plant Hedysarum scoparium uses leaflets and rachises as its photosynthetic organs. The abundance of leaflets was lower under unfavorable environmental conditions and higher with improved water conditions. To examine the characteristics associated with the adaptation of H. scoparium to its environment, we selected plants with both compound leaves and rachis without leaflets to study the anatomical structures and gas exchange characteristics of the two organs. The results show that the water storage tissues in rachises were more developed compared with the leaflets. The diurnal courses of the net photosynthetic rate for the rachis and the leaflet were both in a bimodal pattern. Meanwhile, both two peak values of the rachis were significantly higher than those of the leaflet. The daily average transpiration rate was significantly higher in the rachis than in the leaflet in order to lower the temperature of the rachises. It was concluded that under desert drought conditions, the leaflets of H. scoparium were partially or completely degraded to reduce the transpiration area as an adaptive response to water deficit, and only the rachises were retained as photosynthetic organ.
