| 1 | Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. | 2 | Vulnerability of Water Resources and Its Spatial Heterogeneity in Haihe River Basin, China显示文摘To manage water resources effectively, a multiscale assessment of the vulnerability of water resources on the basis of political boundaries and watersheds is necessary. This study addressed issues on the vulnerability of water resources and provided a multiscale comparison of spatial heterogeneity under a climate change background. Using improved quantitative evaluation methods of vulnerability, the Theil index and the Shannon-Weaver index, we evaluated the vulnerability of water resources and its spatial heterogeneity in the Haihe River Basin in four scales, namely, second-class water resource regions(Class ⅡWRRs), third-class water resource regions(Class Ⅲ WRRs), Province-Class ⅡWRRs, and Province-Class Ⅲ WRRs. Results show that vulnerability enhances from the north to south in the different scales, and shows obvious spatial heterogeneity instead of moving toward convergence in multiscale assessment results. Among the Class Ⅱ WRRs, the Tuhai-Majia River is the most vulnerable area, and the vulnerability of the Luanhe River is lower than that of the north of the Haihe River Basin, which in turn is lower than that of the south of the Haihe River Basin. In the scales of Class Ⅲ WRRs and Province-Class Ⅲ WRRs, the vulnerability shows obvious spatial heterogeneity and diversity measured by the Theil index and the Shannon-Weaver index. | 4 | Biofilm Microenvironment-Responsive Nanotheranostics for Dual-Mode Imaging and Hypoxia-Relief-Enhanced Photodynamic Therapy of Bacterial Infections显示文摘The formation of bacterial biofilms closely associates with infectious diseases.Until now,precise diagnosis and effective treatment of bacterial biofilm infections are still in great need.Herein,a novel multifunctional theranostic nanoplatform based on MnO_(2)nanosheets(MnO_(2)NSs)has been designed to achieve pH-responsive dual-mode imaging and hypoxia-relief-enhanced antimicrobial photodynamic therapy(aPDT)of bacterial biofilm infections.In this study,MnO_(2)NSs were modified with bovine serum albumin(BSA)and polyethylene glycol(PEG)and then loaded with chlorin e_(6)(Ce_(6))as photosensitizer to form MnO_(2)-BSA/PEG-Ce_(6)nanosheets(MBP-Ce_(6)NSs).After being delivered into the bacterial biofilm-infected tissues,the MBP-Ce_(6)NSs could be decomposed in acidic biofilm microenvironment and release Ce_(6)with Mn^(2+),which subsequently activate both fluorescence(FL)and magnetic resonance(MR)signals for effective dual-mode FL/MR imaging of bacterial biofilm infections.Meanwhile,MnO_(2)could catalyze the decomposing of H2O_(2)in biofilm-infected tissues into O_(2)and relieve the hypoxic condition of biofilm,which significantly enhances the efficacy of aPDT.An in vitro study showed that MBP-Ce_(6)NSs could significantly reduce the number of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)in biofilms after 635nm laser irradiation.Guided by FL/MR imaging,MRSA biofilm-infected mice can be efficiently treated by MBP-Ce_(6)NSs-based aPDT.Overall,MBP-Ce_(6)NSs not only possess biofilm microenvironment-responsive dual-mode FL/MR imaging ability but also have significantly enhanced aPDT efficacy by relieving the hypoxia habitat of biofilm,which provides a promising theranostic nanoplatform for bacterial biofilm infections. | Weijun Xiu Siyu Gan Qirui Wen Qiu Qiu Sulai Dai Heng Dong Qiang Li Lihui Yuwen Lixing Weng Zhaogang Teng Yongbin Mou Lianhui Wang | 2020 | Research2020,,1: | 7 |

| 10 | Improving the Unconfined Compressive Strength of Red Clay by Combining Biopolymers with Fibers显示文摘To explore an environmentally friendly improvement measure for red clay,the function and mechanism of xanthan gum biopolymer and polypropylene fibers on the strength properties of red clay were investigated by unconfined compressive strength and scanning electron microscopy tests.The test results demonstrated that the contents and curing ages of xanthan gum had significant influences on the unconfined compressive strength of red clay.Compared with untreated soil,1.5%xanthan gum content was the optimal ratio in which the strength increment was between 41.52 kPa and 64.73 kPa.On the other hand,the strength of xanthan gum-treated red clay increased,whereas the ductility decreased with the increase in curing ages,indicating that the xanthan gum-treated red clay started to gradually consolidate after 3 days of curing and stiffness significantly improved between 7 and 28 days of curing.The results also showed that the synergistic consolidation effects of the xanthan gum–polypropylene fibers could not only effectively enhance the strength of red clay but also reduce the brittle failure phenomenon.The strengths of soil treated with 2.0%xanthan gum-polypropylene fibers were 1.9–2.41 and 1.12–1.47 times than that of red clay and 1.5%xanthan gum-treated clay,respectively.The results of study provide the related methods and experiences for the field of ecological soil treatment. | Zhiyu Weng Lina Wang Qiang Liu Xuemin Pan Yonghao Xu Jing Li | 2021 | Journal of Renewable Materials2021,9,8: | 2 |
