| 1 | Numerical analysis and experimental investigation of wind turbine blades with innovative features:Structural response and characteristics显示文摘Innovative features of wind turbine blades with flatback at inboard region,thick airfoils at inboard as well as mid-span region and transversely stepped thickness in spar caps have been proposed by Institute of Engineering Thermophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences(IET-Wind)in order to improve both aerodynamic and structural efficiency of rotor blades.To verify the proposed design concepts,this study first presented numerical analysis using finite element method to clarify the effect of flatback on local buckling strength of the inboard region.Blade models with various loading cases,inboard configurations,and core materials were comparatively studied.Furthermore,a prototype blade incorporated with innovative features was manufactured and tested under static bending loads to investigate its structural response and characteristics.It was found that rotor blades with flatback exhibited favorable local buckling strength at the inboard region compared with those with conventional sharp trailing edge when low-density PVC foam was used.The prototype blade showed linear behavior under extreme loads in spar caps,aft panels,shear web and flatback near the maximum chord which is usually susceptible to buckling in the blades according to traditional designs.The inboard region of the blade showed exceptional load-carrying capacity as it survived420%extreme loads in the experiment.Through this study,potential structural advantages by applying proposed structural features to large composite blades of multi-megawatt wind turbines were addressed. | CHEN Xiao QIN ZhiWen YANG Ke ZHAO XiaoLu XU JianZhong | 2015 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2015,58,1: | 9 |

| 3 | Chondrogenesis mediates progression of ankylosing spondylitis through heterotopic ossification显示文摘Ankylosing spondylitis(AS)is chronic inflammatory arthritis with a progressive fusion of axial joints.Anti-inflammatory treatments such as anti-TNF-αantibody therapy suppress inflammation but do not effectively halt the progression of spine fusion in AS patients.Here we report that the autoimmune inflammation of AS generates a microenvironment that promotes chondrogenesis in spine ligaments as the process of spine fusion.Chondrocyte differentiation was observed in the ligaments of patients with earlystage AS,and cartilage formation was followed by calcification.Moreover,a large number of giant osteoclasts were found in the inflammatory environment of ligaments and on bony surfaces of calcified cartilage.Resorption activity by these giant osteoclasts generated marrow with high levels of active TGF-β,which induced new bone formation in the ligaments.Notably,no Osterix+osteoprogenitors were found in osteoclast resorption areas,indicating uncoupled bone resorption and formation.Even at the late and maturation stages,the uncoupled osteoclast resorption in bony interspinous ligament activates TGF-βto induce the progression of ossification in AS patients.Osteoclast resorption of calcified cartilage-initiated ossification in the progression of AS is a similar pathologic process of acquired heterotopic ossification(HO).Our finding of cartilage formation in the ligaments of AS patients revealed that the pathogenesis of spinal fusion is a process of HO and explained why anti-inflammatory treatments do not slow ankylosing once there is new bone formation in spinal soft tissues.Thus,inhibition of HO formation,such as osteoclast activity,cartilage formation,or TGF-βactivity could be a potential therapy for AS. | Tao Yu Jianguo Zhang Wei Zhu Xiao Wang Yun Bai Bin Feng Qianyu Zhuang Chang Han Shengru Wang Qimiao Hu Senbo An Mei Wan Shiwu Dong Jianzhong Xu Xisheng Weng Xu Cao | 2021 | Bone Research2021,9,2: | 7 |
| 4 | Preliminary results of the close-off depth and the stable isotopic records along a 109.91 m ice core from Dome A, Antarctica显示文摘A 109.91 m ice core was recovered from Dome A (or Dome Argus), the highest ice feature in Antarctica, during the 2004/05 austral summer by the 21st Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE-21). Both methane profile along the core and firn densification model calculation suggest that the close-off depth is at about 102.0 m with an ice age about 4200 a. Stable isotopes (δ18O and δD) of the chips samples produced during each run of ice core drilling at Dome A, together with those of the other cores recovered from the eastern inland Antarctica, suggest a relative stable climate with a temperature fluctuation amplitude about ±0.6℃ at the eastern inland Antarctica during the late Holocene. The average d-excess (or d =δ D-8δ 18O) of 17.1‰ along the Dome A core is probably the highest among the Antarctic inland ice cores, which may be resulted from the kinetic fractionation during the snow formation under an oversaturation condition. Moreover, the increasing trend of d-excess during the late Holocene reflects mainly the migration of the water source area for precipitation at Dome A towards low latitudes. | 5 | Solution of general dynamic equation for nanoparticles in turbulent flow considering fluctuating coagulation显示文摘A new averaged general dynamic equation(GDE) for nanoparticles in the turbulent flow is derived by considering the combined effect of convection, Brownian diffusion, turbulent diffusion, turbulent coagulation, and fluctuating coagulation. The equation is solved with the Taylor-series expansion moment method in a turbulent pipe flow. The experiments are performed. The numerical results of particle size distribution correlate well with the experimental data. The results show that, for a turbulent nanoparticulate flow, a fluctuating coagulation term should be included in the averaged particle GDE. The larger the Schmidt number is and the lower the Reynolds number is,the smaller the value of ratio of particle diameter at the outlet to that at the inlet is. At the outlet, the particle number concentration increases from the near-wall region to the near-center region. The larger the Schmidt number is and the higher the Reynolds number is, the larger the difference in particle number concentration between the near-wall region and near-center region is. Particle polydispersity increases from the near-center region to the near-wall region. The particles with a smaller Schmidt number and the flow with a higher Reynolds number show a higher polydispersity. | 6 | Polymer nanodisks by collapse of nanocapsules显示文摘It is an important challenge to make disk-like polymeric nanostructures. Herein we report a facile method for preparing polymer nanodisks by self-collapse of nanocapsules self-assembled from a statistical copolymer after partial hydrolysis. We find that partial hydrolysis of the statistical copolymer is crucial for the formation of nanodisks as it affords a suitable rigidity for the membrane of nanocapsules. The nanodisk structure has been confirmed by transmission electron microscopy(TEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM) studies with a thickness of 6.3±0.2 nm. | 9 | Seizures dynamics in a neural field model of cortical-thalamic circuitry显示文摘The focus of this study is to explore the mechanisms during seizure behavior using a physiologically motivated by corticothalamic circuity. The model is based on the assumption that, the inhibitory projects from thalamus reticular nucleus(TRN) to specific relay nuclei(SRN) are mediated by GABAA and GABAB receptors which react different time scales in synaptic transmission.Secondly, we include the effects of slow modulation on the threshold current of TRN population that were found to generate bursting behavior. Our model can reproduce healthy and pathological dynamics including wake, spindle, deep sleep, and also seizure states. In addition, contour maps are used to explore the transition of different activity states. It is worthy to point out seizure duration is significantly affected by a time-varying delay as illustrated in our numerical simulation.
