| 1 | A life support-based comprehensive treatment regimen dramatically lowers the in-hospital mortality of patients with fulminant myocarditis: a multiple center study显示文摘Fulminant myocarditis(FM) has unacceptable high mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of a life support-based comprehensive treatment regimen(LSBCTR), a completely novel treatment regimen, for FM. A total of 169 FM patients recruited from January 2008 to December 2018 were divided into two groups: patients receiving LSBCTR(81 cases),which includes(i) mechanical life support(positive pressure respiration, intra-aortic balloon pump with or without extracorporeal membrane oxygenation),(ii) immunomodulation therapy using sufficient doses of glucocorticoids and immunoglobulins, and(iii) application of neuraminidase inhibitors, and those receiving conventional treatment(88 cases). The endpoints were in-hospital death and heart-transplantation. Of all the population, 44 patients(26.0%) died in hospitals. Inhospital mortality was 3.7%(3/81) for LSBCTR group and 46.6%(41/88) for traditional treatment(P<0.001). Early application of LSBCTR, mechanical life support, neuraminidase inhibitors, and immunomodulation therapy significantly contributed to reduction in in-hospital mortality. This study describes a novel treatment regimen for FM patients that dramatically reduces inhospital mortality. | 2 | Study of Bacillus subtilis on growth performance, nutrition metabolism and intestinal microflora of 1 to 42 d broiler chickens显示文摘To study the influence of different levels of Bacillus subtilis on growth performance, nutrition metabolism and intestinal microflora of 1 to 42 d Arbor Acres(AA) broilers, a total of 800 one-day-old healthy broilers were randomly divided into 5 groups with 4 replicates per group and 40 broilers per replicate. Broilers were fed a basic diet(group 1) which acted as the control group, and 4 other groups(2 to 5) were fed the basal diet with B. subtilis added at concentrations of 100, 150, 200 and 250 mg/kg, respectively for 42 days. The results showed as follow: the average daily gain(ADG) of group 4 was significantly higher than(P < 0.05) that of group 1, and the average daily feed intake(ADFI) of group 5 was the highest but the differences between groups were not significant(P > 0.05). The feed to gain ratio(F/G) of all the experimental groups was lower than that of the control and the difference was significant in group 4(P < 0.05). In addition, supplementation of B. subtilis increased the apparent metabolism of crude protein(P > 0.05), crude fat(P > 0.05), dry matter(P > 0.05) and organic matter(P < 0.05). B. subtilis decreased the Escherichia coli and Salmonella populations in the cecum. This shows that adding B. subtilis to the broiler diet can improve the growth performance, increase feed efficiency, regulate serum index and reduce harmful bacteria in the intestinal tract. | 3 | Highly efficient generation of arbitrary vector beams with tunable polarization, phase, and amplitude显示文摘We propose an efficient and robust method to generate tunable vector beams by employing a single phasetype spatial light modulator(SLM). With this method, a linearly polarized Gaussian beam can be converted into a vector beam with arbitrarily controllable polarization state, phase, and amplitude. The energy loss during the conversion is greatly reduced and depends mainly on the reflectivity of the SLM. We experimentally demonstrate that conversion efficiency of about 47% is achieved by using an SLM with reflectivity of 62%.Several typical vector beams, including cylindrical vector beams, vector beams on higher order Poincaré spheres,and arbitrary vector beams attached with phases and with tunable amplitude, are generated and verified experimentally. | 4 | Effects of fluid balance on prognosis of acute respiratory distress syndrome patients secondary to sepsis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fluid management is crucial to acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)secondary to sepsis.However,choices of fluid resuscitation strategies and fluid input volumes remain a thorny problem.Our study aimed to elucidate the relationship between fluid balance and prognosis of ARDS patients secondary to sepsis.METHODS:Our study included 322 sepsis patients from Ruijin Hospital between 2014 and 2018,and 84 patients were diagnosed as ARDS within 72 hours after onset of sepsis according to Berlin ARDS Defi nition.RESULTS:Among the 322 sepsis patients,84(26.1%)were complicated with ARDS within 72 hours.ARDS patients had a lower oxygenation index(PaO2/FiO2166.4±71.0 vs.255.0±91.2,P<0.05),longer duration of mechanical ventilation(11[6-24]days vs.0[0-0]days,P<0.05)than those without ARDS.Sepsis patients with ARDS showed daily positive net fl uid balance during seven days compared with those without ARDS who showed daily negative net fluid balance since the second day with signifi cant statistical differences.Among the 84 sepsis patients with ARDS,58(69.0%)died.Mean daily fl uid input volumes were much lower in survivors than in non-survivors(43.2±16.7 mL/kg vs.51.0±25.2 mL/kg,P<0.05)while output volumes were much higher in survivors(45.2±19.8 mL/kg vs.40.2±22.7 mL/kg,P<0.05).Using binary logistic regression analysis,we found that the mean daily fl uid balance was independently associated with mortality of sepsis patients complicating with ARDS(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS:Early negative fluid balance is independently associated with a better prognosis of sepsis patients complicated with ARDS. | Yu-ming Wang Yan-jun Zheng Ying Chen Yun-chuan Huang Wei-wei Chen Ran Ji Li-li Xu Zhi-tao Yang Hui-qiu Sheng Hong-ping Qu En-qiang Mao Er-zhen Chen | 2020 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2020,11,4: | 11 |
| 5 | Mapping the permafrost stability on the Tibetan Plateau for 2005–2015显示文摘Data scarcity is a major obstacle for high-resolution mapping of permafrost on the Tibetan Plateau(TP).This study produces a new permafrost stability distribution map for the 2010 s(2005–2015)derived from the predicted mean annual ground temperature(MAGT)at a depth of zero annual amplitude(10–25 m)by integrating remotely sensed freezing degree-days and thawing degree-days,snow cover days,leaf area index,soil bulk density,high-accuracy soil moisture data,and in situ MAGT measurements from 237 boreholes on the TP by using an ensemble learning method that employs a support vector regression model based on distance-blocked resampled training data with 200 repetitions.Validation of the new permafrost map indicates that it is probably the most accurate of all currently available maps.This map shows that the total area of permafrost on the TP,excluding glaciers and lakes,is approximately 115.02(105.47–129.59)×10^4 km^2.The areas corresponding to the very stable,stable,semi-stable,transitional,and unstable types are 0.86×10^4,9.62×10^4,38.45×10^4,42.29×10^4,and 23.80×10^4 km^2,respectively.This new map is of fundamental importance for engineering planning and design,ecosystem management,and evaluation of the permafrost change in the future on the TP as a baseline. | Youhua RAN Xin LI Guodong CHENG Zhuotong NAN Jinxing CHE Yu SHENG Qingbai WU Huijun JIN Dongliang LUO Zhiguang TANG Xiaobo WU | 2021 | Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,1: | 11 |

| 12 | Silk Fibroin‑Based Wearable All‑Fiber Multifunctional Sensor for Smart Clothing显示文摘Wearable sensing technology enables the interaction between the physical world and the digital world,as takes an irreplaceable role in development of the Internet of Things(IoT),and artificial intelligence(AI).However,increasing requirements posed by rapid development of wearable electronic information technology bring about many for wearable sensing technology,such as the demands for ultrahigh flexibility,air permeability,excellent biocompatibility,and multifunctional integration.Herein,we propose a wearable all-fiber multifunctional sensor(AFMS)based on a biocompatible material,i.e.,silk fibroin.A simple two-layer configuration of a silk fiber film and an interdigital Ag nanowires(AgNWs)electrode was designed to construct the AFMS,in which silk fibroin simultaneously serves as a fundamental supporting component and a functional sensing component.Electrospinning and spray coating technologies were introduced to process the silk fiber film and the AgNWs electrode.The all-fiber configuration allows AFMS to possess ultrahigh flexibility and good air permeability,and silk fibroin enables the AFMS to have excellent biocompatibility.More importantly,benefiting from the all-fiber structure and the environmentally sensitive dielectric property of silk fibroin,the AFMS presented multiple sensing characteristics,including pressure sensing,temperature sensing,and humidity sensing.Among them,the pressure sensing function reached a high sensitivity of 2.27 pF/kPa(7.5%/kPa)and a remarkable resolution of~26 Pa in the low pressure range.Additionally,the outstanding mechanical reliability and sensing stability of AFMS were proven by a systematic experiment.In addition,the AFMS was successfully applied for smart mask for breathing monitoring and a smart glove for bending angle recognition of finger joints.Multiple sensing characteristics combined with prominent fundamental features enable the AFMS tremendous potential in the smart sensing field,e.g.,smart clothing. | Dan‑Liang Wen Yu‑Xing Pang Peng Huang Yi‑Lin Wang Xin‑Ran Zhang Hai‑Tao Deng Xiao‑Sheng Zhang | 2022 | Advanced Fiber Materials2022,4,4: | 2 |

| 14 | Electroporation-Mediated Immunization of a Candidate DNA Vaccine Expressing Dengue Virus Serotype 4 prM-E Antigen Confers Long-Term Protection in Mice显示文摘Dengue fever, caused by dengue viruses(DENVs), is a widespread mosquito-borne zoonotic disease; however, there is no available anti-dengue vaccine for worldwide use. In the current study, a DNA vaccine candidate(pV-D4 ME) expressing prM-E protein of DENV serotype 4(DENV-4) was constructed, and its immunogenicity and protection were evaluated in immunocompetent BALB/c mice. The pV-D4 ME candidate vaccine induced effective humoral and cellular immunity of mice against DENV-4 in vivo when administered both at 50 μg and 5 μg through electroporation. Two weeks after receiving three immunizations, both doses of pV-D4 ME DNA were shown to confer effective protection against lethal DENV-4 challenge. Notably, at 6 months after the three immunizations, 50 μg, but not 5 μg, of pV-D4 ME could provide stable protection(100% survival rate) against DENV-4 lethal challenge without any obvious clinical signs. The magnitude of desorption hysteresis decreases in the order: untreated Pahokee peat (P)> acid treated peat (FP)> humin (TP). The desorption percentages are lower than 28% of the sorbed 1, 4-DCB after desorbing for 6 days. The sorption and desorption isotherms are well fitted to Freundlich equation, whose parameter 1/n ranges from 0.055 to 0.527. Moreover, the parameter 1/n of the desorption isotherm is significantly lower than that of the sorption isotherm, but the parameter logK increases on contrary to 1/n. The desorption isotherms are very well fitted to Langmuir equation, whose Qm decreases in the order: TP>FP> P. The apparent partition coefficients (Kp) increase with increasing sorption time or decreasing aqueous equilibrium concentration of DCB.
