| 1 | Effects of Flower Buds Extract of Tussilago farfara on Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rats and Inflammatory Response in BV2 Microglia显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of the flower buds extract of Tussilago farfara Linné(Farfarae Flos; FF) on focal cerebral ischemia through regulation of inflammatory responses in activated microglia. Methods: Brain ischemia was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion(t MCAO) for 90 min and reperfusion for 24 h. Twenty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups(n=5 per group): normal, t MCAO-induced ischemic control, t MCAO plus FF extract 300 mg/kg-treated, and t MCAO plus MK-801 1 mg/kg-treated as reference drug. FF extract(300 mg/kg, p.o.) or MK-801(1 mg/kg, i.p.) was administered after reperfusion. Brain infarction was measured by 2,3,5,-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. Neuronal damage was observed by haematoxylin eosin, Nissl staining and immunohistochemistry using anti-neuronal nuclei(Neu N), anti-glial fibril ary acidic protein(GFAP), and antiCD11 b/c(OX42) antibodies in ischemic brain. The expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS), tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 a(HIF-1α) were determined by Western blot. BV2 microglial cel s were treated with FF extract or its main bioactive compound, tussilagone with or without lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Nitric oxide(NO) production was measured in culture medium by Griess assay. The expressions of i NOS, COX-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines mRNA were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The expression of i NOS, and COX-2 proteins, the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK and the nuclear expression of NF-κB p65 in BV2 cells were determined by Western blot. Results: FF extract significantly decreased brain infarctions in ischemic rats(P<0.01). The neuronal death and the microglia/astrocytes activation in ischemic brains were inhibited by FF extract. FF extract also suppressed i NOS, TNF-α, and HIF-1α expression in ischemic brains. FF extract(0.2 and 0.5 mg/m L, P<0.01) and tussilagone 20 and 50 μmol/L, P<0.01) significantly decreased LPS-induced NO production in BV2 microglia through downregulation of i NOS m RNA and protein expression. FF extract and tussilagone significantly inhibited LPS-induced expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 m RNA, and also suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK and p38 MAPK and the nuclear expression of NF-κB in a dosedependent manner. | 2 | Effect of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis on inflammatory responses in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anti-inflammatory activities of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis Lam.(Cuscutae Semen; CS) on the production of inflammatory mediators, nitric oxide(NO), prostaglandin 2(PGE2), and proinflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglia. METHOD: BV-2 cells were treated with CS extract for 30 min, and then stimulated with LPS or without for 24 h. The levels of NO, PGE2 and proinflammatory cytokines were measured by Griess assay and ELISA. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS), and cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 mRNA and protein was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2), Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK), and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), and the nuclear expression of nuclear factor(NF)-κB p65 were investigated by Western blot analysis. RESULTS: CS extract significantly decreased the production of NO and PGE2 by suppressing the expression of iNOS and COX-2 in activated microglia. CS extract decreased the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 by down-regulating their transcription levels. In addition, CS extract suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK, and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 in activated microglia. | 3 | Differential diagnosis of left-sided abdominal pain:Primary epiploic appendagitis vs colonic diverticulitis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinical characteristics of left primary epiploic appendagitis and to compare them with those of left colonic diverticulitis.METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records and radiologic images of the patients who presented with left-sided acute abdominal pain and had computer tomography(CT) performed at the time of presentation showing radiological signs of left primary epiploic appendagitis(PEA) or left acute colonic diverticulitis(ACD) between January 2001 and December 2011. A total of 53 consecutive patients were enrolled and evaluated. We also compared the clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments,and clinical results of left PEA with those of left ACD.RESULTS:Twenty-eight patients and twenty-five patients were diagnosed with symptomatic left PEA and ACD,respectively. The patients with left PEA had focal abdominal tenderness on the left lower quadrant(82.1%). On CT examination,most(89.3%) of the patients with left PEA were found to have an oval fatty mass with a hyperattenuated ring sign. In cases of left ACD,the patients presented with a more diffuse abdominal tenderness throughout the left side(52.0%vs 14.3%; P = 0.003). The patients with left ACD had fever and rebound tenderness more often than those with left PEA(40.0% vs 7.1%,P = 0.004; 52.0% vs14.3%,P = 0.003,respectively). | 4 | Electronically coupled layered double hydroxide/MXene quantum dot metallic hybrids for high-performance flexible zinc–air batteries显示文摘Precise control of the local electronic structure and properties of electrocatalysts is important for enhancing the multifunctionality and durability of electrocatalysts and for correlating the structure/chemistry with the catalytic properties.Herein,we report electronically coupled metallic hybrids of NiFe layered double hydroxide nanosheet/Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots deposited on a nitrogen-doped graphene surface(LDH/MQD/NG)for high-performance flexible Zn-air batteries(ZABs).As verified from the Mott-Schottky and Nyquist plots,as well as spectroscopic,electrochemical,and computational analyses,the electronic and chemical coupling of LDH/MQD/NG modulates the local electronic and surface structure of the active LDH to provide metallic conductivity and abundant active sites,leading to significantly improved bifunctional activity and electrocatalytic kinetics.The rechargeable ZABs with LDH/MQD/NG hybrids are superior to the previous LDH-based ZABs,demonstrating a high power density(113.8 mW cm^(-2))and excellent cycle stability(150 h at 5 mA cm^(-2)).Moreover,the corresponding quasi solid-state ZABs are completely flexible and practical,affording a high power density of 57.6 mW cm^(-2)even in the bent state,and in real-life operation of tandem cells for powering various electronic devices. | Xiaotong Han Nannan Li Peixun Xiong Min Gyu Jung Yingbo Kang Qingyun Dou Qing Liu Jin Yong Lee Ho Seok Park | 2021 | InfoMat2021，3，10： | 4 |
| 5 | Risk factors for metachronous gastric carcinoma development after endoscopic resection of gastric dysplasia: Retrospective, single-center study显示文摘AIM To determine the gastric adenocarcinoma(GAC)occurrence rate and related factors,we evaluated the follow-up results of patients confirmed to have gastric dysplasia after endoscopic resection(ER).METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the medical records,endoscopic examination records,endoscopic procedure records,and histological records of 667 cases from641 patients who were followed-up for at least 12mo,from among 1273 patients who were conformed to have gastric dysplasia after Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)of gastric mucosal lesions between January 2007and August 2013 at the Chungnam National University Hospital.RESULTS The mean follow-up period was 33.8 mo,and the median follow-up period was 29 mo(range:12-87).During the follow-up period,the occurrence of metachronous GAC was 4.0%(27/667).The mean and median interval periods between the occurrence of metachronous GAC and endoscopic treatment of gastric dysplasia were 36.3 and 34 mo,respectively(range:16-71).The factors related to metachronous GAC occurrence after ER for gastric dysplasia were male sex(5.3%vs 1.0%),open-type atrophic gastritis(9.5%vs3.4%),intestinal metaplasia(6.8%vs 2.4%),and highgrade dysplasia(HGD;8.4%vs 3.2%).Among them,male sex[OR:5.05(1.18-21.68),P=0.029],intestinal metaplasia[OR:2.78(1.24-6.23),P=0.013],and HGD[OR:2.70(1.16-6.26),P=0.021]were independent related factors in multivariate analysis.Furthermore,24of 27 GAC cases(88.9%)occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites,and 3(11.1%)occurred at the same site as the previous resection site.CONCLUSION Male sex,intestinal metaplasia,and HGD were significantly related to the occurrence of metachronous GAC after ER of gastric dysplasia,and most GACs occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites. | Hee Seok Moon Gee Young Yun Ju Seok Kim Hyuk Soo Eun Sun Hyung Kang Jae Kyu Sung Hyun Yong Jeong Kyu-Sang Song | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017，23，24： | 3 |

| 7 | Attenuated FOLFIRINOX in the salvage treatment of gemcitabine-refractory advanced pancreatic cancer: a phase II study显示文摘Background:Combination therapy with oxaliplatin,irinotecan,fluorouracil,and leucovorin(FOLFIRINOX)chemotherapy drastically improves survival of advanced pancreatic cancer patients.However,the efficacy of FOLFIRINOX as a second-line treatment after gemcitabine failure has not been tested prospectively.We investigated the feasibility and safety of attenuated FOLFIRINOX in patients with gemcitabine-refractory advanced pancreatic cancer.Methods:A multicenter phase II prospective open-label,single-arm study was conducted at 14 hospitals.Patients with histologically proven invasive ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma,a measurable or evaluable lesion,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0 or 1,adequate organ function,and aged 19 years or older were eligible.Attenuated FOLFIRINOX consisted of oxaliplatin 65 mg/m2,irinotecan 135 mg/m2,and leucovorin 400 mg/m2 injected intravenously on day 1 and 5-fluorouracil 2000 mg/m2 continuously infused intravenously over 46 h on days 1-2,repeated every 2 weeks.The primary endpoint was progression-free survival from the initiation of FOLFIRINOX.Secondary endpoints were the objective response rate,disease control rate,overall survival,safety,and tolerability.We estimated overall survival and progression-free survival using the Kaplan-Meier methods.Results:We enrolled 39 patients from 14 institutions.The objective response rate was 10.3%,while the disease control rate was 64.1%.The 6-month and 1-year overall survival rates were 59.0%and 15.4%,respectively.Median progression-free survival and overall survival were 3.8 months(95%confidence interval[CI]1.5-6.0 months)and 8.5 months(95%CI 5.6-11.4 months),respectively.Grade 3 or 4 adverse events were neutropenia(41.0%),nausea(10.3%),anorexia(10.3%),anemia(7.7%),mucositis(7.7%),pneumonia/pleural effusion(5.1%),and fatigue(5.1%).One treatment-related death attributable to septic shock occurred.Conclusion:Attenuated FOLFIRINOX may be promising as a second-line therapy for gemcitabine-refractory pancre-atic cancer. | Jung Hoon Kim Sang-Cheol Lee Sung Yong Oh Seo-Young Song Namsu Lee Eun Mi Nam Soonil Lee In Gyu Hwang Hyo Rak Lee Kyu Taek Lee Sang-Byung Bae Han Jo Kim Joung Soon Jang Do Hyoung Lim Hyun Woo Lee Seok Yun Kang Jung Hun Kang | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018，38，1： | 2 |

| 15 | Usefulness of colonic tattooing using indocyanine green in patients with colorectal tumors显示文摘AIM To prove that tattooing using indocyanine green(ICG) is feasible in laparoscopic surgery for a colon tumor.METHODS From January 2012 to December 2016, all patients who underwent laparoscopic colonic surgery were retrospectively screened, and 1010 patients with colorectal neoplasms were included. Their lesions were tattooed with ICG the day before the operation. The tattooed group(TG) included 114 patients, and the non-tattooed group(NTG) was selected by propensity score matching of subjects based on age, sex, tumor staging, and operation method(n = 228). In total, 342 patients were enrolled. Between the groups, the changes in [Delta(Δ), preoperative-postoperative] the hemoglobin and albumin levels, operation time, hospital stay, oral ingestion period, transfusion, and perioperative complications were compared. RESULTS Preoperative TG had a shorter operation time(174.76 ± 51.6 min vs 192.63 ± 59.9 min, P < 0.01), hospital stay(9.55 ± 3.36 d vs 11.42 ± 8.23 d, P < 0.01), and postoperative oral ingestion period(1.58 ± 0.96 d vs 2.81 ± 1.90 d, P < 0.01). The Δ hemoglobin(0.78 ± 0.76 g/dL vs 2.2 ± 1.18 g/dL, P < 0.01) and Δ albumin(0.41 ± 0.44 g/dL vs 1.08 ± 0.39 g/dL, P < 0.01) levels were lower in the TG. On comparison of patients in the 'N0' and 'N1 or N2' groups, the N0 colon cancer group had a better operation time, length of hospital stay, oral ingestion period, Δ hemoglobin, and Δ albumin results than those of the N1 or N2 group. The operation methods affected the results, and laparoscopic anterior resection(LAR) showed similar results.
