1Polar organic tracers in PM_(2.5) aerosols from an inland background area in Southwest China: Correlations between secondary organic aerosol tracers and source apportionment显示文摘PM_(2.5) aerosol samples were collected over 12 hr and 24 hr intervals in an inland background area, Gongga Mountain National Nature Reserve(hereafter shortened to Gongga), during the summer of 2011. Polar organic tracers, inorganic ions and meteorological data were measured. The purpose of this work was to investigate the variation patterns, formation and sources of the secondary organic aerosol tracers in the studied atmosphere. The average concentrations of isoprene oxidation products, α-pinene oxidation products, β-caryophyllinic acid, sugars, sugar alcohols and anhydrosugars were 88.6 ± 106.1, 3.6 ± 5.7,0.13 ± 0.30, 13.6 ± 13.1, 31.9 ± 31.4 and 14.8 ± 10.7 ng/m3 respectively in all aerosol samples.The aged α-pinene second organic aerosol(SOA) tracers(i.e., 3-hydroxyglutraric acid(3 HGA), 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylglutaric acid(HDMGA), 3-acetylpentandioic acid(APDA) and 3-methyl-1,2,3-butanetricarboxylic acid(MBTCA)) correlated significantly with each other in the 24 hr PM2.5 aerosol samples, indicating that OH· is the major factor controlling the formation of these α-pinene SOA tracers. Using the positive matrix factorization(PMF) model and the tracer-based source apportionment method, we calculated that isoprene oxidation products, α-pinene oxidation products, sesquiterpene oxidation products, biomass burning, fungi spores and anthropogenic SOA accounted for 21.9% ± 5.5%, 8.4% ± 2.1%, 3.0% ± 0.7%, 5.2% ± 5.3%, 5.0% ± 6.2% and 31.4% ± 7.8% of organic carbon respectively during the sampling period.Li Li Wei Lai Jinguo Pu Hengqin Mo Dongjue Dai Guilin Wu Shihuai Deng 2018Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,7:6
2Characterization of summer PM_(2.5) aerosols from four forest areas in Sichuan,SW China显示文摘Aerosol samples were collected over 24 and 12 h to represent day/night aerosol characteristics in forest areas at Ya'an Baima Spring Scenic Area(BM),Panzhihua Cycas National Nature Reserve(PZ),Gongga Mountain National Nature Reserve(GG),and Wolong National Nature Reserve(WL),during the summers of 2010-2012.Mass and chemical component concentrations,including organic carbon,elemental carbon,and inorganic ions(F^-,Cl^-,NO_2^-,NO_3^-,SO_4^(2-),C_2O_4^(2-),PO_4^(3-),K^+,Na^+,Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),and NH_4^+),of PM_(2.5) aerosols were measured.The average PM2.5 concentrations for 24 h were 72.42,104.89,20.55,and29.19 μg/m^3 at BM,PZ,GG,and WL,respectively.Organic matter accounted for 38.0-49.3%,while elemental carbon accounted for 2.0-5.7%of PM2.5 mass.The sum concentrations of SO_4^(2-),NH_4^+,and NO_3^-accounted for 23.0%,17.4%,22.1%,and 30.5%of PM2.5 mass at BM,PZ,GG,and WL,respectively.Soil dust was also an important source of PM2.5,accounting for 6.3%,17.0%,10.4%,and 19.1%of PM2.5 mass at BM,PZ,GG,and WL,respectively.These reconstructed masses accounted for 75.9-102.0%of PM2.5 mass from the four forest areas of SW China.Hengqin Mo Li Li Wei Lai Min Zhao Jinguo Pu Yi Zhou Shihuai Deng 2015Particuology2015,13,3:4
3Clinical Application of X-ray,B-scan,and CT in the Diagnosis of Ocular Foreign Bodies显示文摘Purpose:To analyze the sensitivity and specificity of X-ray, B-ultrasound, and CT scan in diagnosing ocular foreign bodies, and to compare the accuracy of these three imaging tools in locating these foreign bodies. Methods:A retrospective review was conducted of radio graphic and clinical eye examination data from 62 patients (66 eyes),suspected of having ocular foreign bodies at time of first presentation to the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (Guangzhou, China) between August 2007 and October 2011. The sensitivity and specificity of X-ray, B-ultrasound and CT scan in the diagnosis of ocular foreign bodies were investigated and their accuracy in locating these foreign bodies was compared. Results: A total of 75.8% (n=47) subjects had ocular foreign bodies; 66% of these were metallic. Patients with intraocular, eye wall,and extraocular foreign bodies accounted for 46, 28, and 26% of the total, respectively. The sensitivities of X-ray,CT scan,and B-ultrasound in the diagnosis of ocular foreign bodies were 58.3%, 61.7%, and 75%, the specificityies were 63.3%, 100%, and 87.5%, and the accuracy in locating foreign bodies was 73.4%, 94.7%, and 86.5%, respectively. The properties of foreign bodies affected the diagnosistic accuracy of X-ray,but exerted little impact upon B-ultrasound and CT scan. Conclusion:A fairly high incidence of ocular foreign bodies was noted in patients suspected with ocular foreign bodies at their first presentations.X-ray combined with CT scan or X-ray in combination with B-ultrasound showed a relatively high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing ocular foreign bodies. 12Elucidating dominant factors of PO43–, Cd2+ and nitrobenzene removal by biochar: A comparative investigation based on distinguishable biochars显示文摘Biochars produced from crab shell(CSB),oak sawdust(OB),Jeru salem artichoke tuber(JAB) and sorghum grain(SB) displayed distinguishable adsorption-related characteristics,such as specific surface area(SSA),ash content and acidic oxygen-containing functional groups(AFGs),which linked to the biochar adsorption mechanisms of most pollutants.Herein,PO4^3-,Cd^2+,and nitrobenzene(NB) were employed for adsorption by these biochars to elucidate the dominant factors for the adsorption.Adsorption performance of the three pollutants onto these four biochars varied considerably,as exemplified by the excellent adsorption of PO4^3- and Cd^2+ onto CSB(225.3 and 116.0 mg/g,respectively) as compared with onto the other three biochars(4.2-37.1 mg/g for P043-and 9.7-41.0 mg/g for Cd^2+).OB displayed the best adsorption of NB(72.0 mg/g),followed by SB(39.5 mg/g),JAB(31.1 mg/g),and CSB(23.6 mg/g).The kinetics and isotherm adsorption assessments couple with material characterization suggested that the sorption of selected pollutants on biochars was attributed to the multiple mechanisms involved,including coprecipitation,chemical bonds,cation exchange,physical absorption,and complexation.Further path analysis suggested that AFGs and ash content in biochars were more important than SSA with regards to pollutant removal,especially,with ash playing a crucial role in the removal of Cd2+ and PO43-,and AFGs being mainly re s ponsible for NB adsorption.These findings might offer guidance on the preparation or modification of biochar with a targeted function for pollutant removal through an understanding the dominant factors.Zhanglin Liu Dong Tian Fei Shen Lulu Long Yanzong Zhang Gang Yang Yongmei Zeng Jing Zhang Jinsong He Ying Zhu Shihuai Deng 2019Chinese Chemical Letters2019,30,12:0

14Determination of the crustal friction and state of stress in deep boreholes using hydrologic indicators显示文摘We apply binary logistic regression to correlate fracture shear-slip criticality to hydraulic conductivity using data from four deep scientific boreholes in fractured crystalline rocks.In each borehole,an optimized decision boundary is obtained by maximizing the joint probability of classifying all fractures in consideration as critical or not.All four cases feature an optimized decision boundary close to the empirical rock friction(μ=0.6),corroborating the applicability of laboratory-derived friction coefficients to faults in situ.Utilizing this statistical technique,we demonstrate that one can determine the in situ stress orientation and relative magnitude based only on whether fractures of varied orientations are hydraulically conductive,or not.The stress inversion results are consistent with independent stress measurements in each of the four case studies.Shihuai Zhang Xiaodong Ma Mark Zoback 2023Rock Mechanics Bulletin2023,2,1:0
15Lithology-controlled stress variations of Longmaxi shale–Example of an appraisal wellbore in the Changning area显示文摘The Longmaxi shale is an extensive,prolific unconventional play in southwestern China.Its development in the Changning area is affected by ineffective hydraulic fracturing(HF)stimulation,fault reactivation and casing damage.It is suspected that the stress contrast within and between the shale reservoirs and the formations above and below matters to hydraulic fracture propagation and reservoir stimulation.To this end,the Longmaxi shale in the Changning area deserves a dedicated quantification of the in situ stress state and its variations.In this study,we re-visit the available data from one of the play’s first appraisal wellbores(X01)for an integrated geomechanics study,focusing on profiling the stress across the Longmaxi and its adjacent formations.Combining geophysical logs and other stress indicators,we re-interpret its stress profile in the context of lithological variations.The resulting stress variations are modeled primarily through a viscoplastic stress relaxation framework,compared with the results via the frictional equilibrium and an elastic theory(the Extended Eaton model).We offer some discussions on the differences and similarities of these stress profiling methods,and examine their applicability to Longmaxi shale in the Changning area.Our objective is to connect the lithology-controlled stress variations to the first-order complexities(HF ineffectiveness and fault reactivation)that have been observed in the area to date.Xiaodong Ma Shihuai Zhang Xiaowen Zhang Jiandong Liu Juan Jin Wei Cheng Weidong Jiang Guangming Zhang Zhaowei Chen Mark D.Zoback 2022Rock Mechanics Bulletin2022,1,1:0
