1Leonurine protects ischemia-induced brain injury via modulating SOD, MDA and GABA levels显示文摘The present study was designed to investigate the protective effects of leonurine, a compound purified from Herba Leonuri that is active on ischemic rat behavior and cortical neurons, and explore the underlying mechanism. The general rat activity, cortical neuron morphology, superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA),γ- aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate decarboxylase 67 (GAD67) levels were measured. We found leonurine significantly improve the general activity of rats in an opefield test, which was associated with attenuated neuronal damage induced by ischemia. Moreover, serum SOD activity was significantly greater, MDA level lower in the leonurine group as compared with ischemia group. In addition, GABA content in the cerebral cortex was significantly greater in high-dose leonurine group. Correspondingly, GAD67 protein level coincided with the GABA level. 2Antidepressant effect of electroacupuncture regulates signal targeting in the brain and increases brain- derived neurotrophic factor levels显示文摘Electroacupuncture improves depressive behavior faster and with fewer adverse effects than antidepressant medication. However, the antidepressant mechanism of electroacupuncture remains poorly understood. Here, we established a rat model of chronic unpredicted mild stress, and then treated these rats with electroacupuncture at Yintang(EX-HN3) and Baihui(DU20) with sparse waves at 2 Hz and 0.6 m A for 30 minutes, once a day. We found increased horizontal and vertical activity, and decreased immobility time, at 2 and 4 weeks after treatment. Moreover, levels of neurotransmitters(5-hydroxytryptamine, glutamate, and γ-aminobutyric acid) and protein levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor-related proteins(Trk B, protein kinase A, and phosphorylation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein) were increased in the hippocampus. Similarly, protein kinase A and Trk B m RNA levels were increased, and calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II levels decreased. These findings suggest that electroacupuncture increases phosphorylation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein and brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels by regulating multiple targets in the cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein signaling pathway, thereby promoting nerve regeneration, and exerting an antidepressive effect.Dong-mei Duan Ya Tu Ping Liu Shuang Jiao 2016Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,10:11
3Recyclable adsorbent of BiFeO_3/Carbon for purifying industrial dye wastewater via photocatalytic reproducible显示文摘It is essential to prepare highly-efficiency reproducible adsorbent for purifying industrial dye wastewater. In this work, biscuit with a layered porous structure as a template is applied to prepare a photocatalytic recyclable adsorbent of BiFeO3/Carbon nanocomposites for purifying simulative industrial dye wastewater. It is found that the structure of the prepared BiFeO3/Carbon nanocomposite is related to the natural structure of the biscuit, annealing temperatures and immersing times, demonstrated by XRD, TEM, UV-Vis and adsorptive activities. Kinetics data shows that the adsorption rate of the adsorbent to the dye is rapid and fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model, that more than 80% of dyes can be removed in the beginning 30 min. The adsorption isotherm can be perfectly described by the Langmuir model as well. It can be seen from the adsorption data that the adsorption performance can reach over 90% at pH ? 2–12, which can imply its universal utilization. The prepared BiFeO_3/Carbon nanocomposites have also displayed excellent capacities(over 90% within 30 min) for adsorption of seven different dyes and their mixed one. According to the five times photocatalytic reproducible experiments, it is proved that BiFeO_3/Carbon nanocomposites show the excellent stability and reproduction for purifying simulative industrial dyes, even the sample have been placed for one year. 5Establishment and validation of standardized animal models of spinal cord injury by normal external force-caused fracture dislocation显示文摘The duplication of animal models plays a key role in spinal cord injury research; however, there has been limited study into normal, external force-derived fracture dislocation. This study adopted experimental devices, designed in-house, to construct standardized ventral and dorsal spinal cord injury animal models of 6 g and 17 g falling from a height of 2, 4, and 10 cm, and 15, 30 or 50 g transversal compression on the spinal cord. The results showed that gradual increases in the degree of histopathological injury led to decreased Tarlov and Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan scores for the behavioral test, and increased Ashworth scores for the hind limb. Furthermore, there was a gradual decline in the slope test in the rats with dorsal spinal cord injury that correlated to increases in the falling substance weight or falling height. Similar alterations were observed in the ventral spinal cord injured rats, proportional to the increase in compression weight. 7Characterization of increased cuticular wax mutant and analysis of genes involved in wax biosynthesis in Dianthus spiculifolius显示文摘Cuticular wax formation on the surface of plant leaves is associated with drought-stress tolerance.The identification of wax biosynthesis-related genes will contribute to the genetic improvement of drought resistance in plants.In this study,we characterize a novel Dianthus spiculifolius mutant with increased cuticular wax.The mutant exhibited stronger drought resistance as indicated by less leaf wilting and death,higher leaf relative water content and water retention capacity,and slower water loss and chlorophyll extraction than did the wild type during drought treatment.In the mutant leaves,2730 upregulated and 2151 downregulated differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified by transcriptome sequencing.A wax biosynthesis pathway of the identified DEGs was significantly enriched.Finally,three key genes(DsCER1,DsMAH1,and DsWSD1)involved in wax biosynthesis were identified and verified by qPCR.These results suggest that differential expression of DEGs involved in wax biosynthesis may be associated with the increase in cuticular wax in the mutant.Taken together,our results help elucidate wax formation patterns in D.spiculifolius.Furthermore,the DEGs involved in wax biosynthesis identified here may be valuable genetic resources for improving plant stress tolerance through increased accumulation of cuticular wax.Aimin Zhou Enhui Liu Jiao Liu Shuang Feng Shufang Gong Jingang Wang 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:4

10Breeding for Parents of Hybrid Rice with Maize pepc Gene显示文摘The results of the investigation on transgenic rice with maize C4-specific phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (pepc) gene showed that the transgenic rice plants with the maize pepc gene expressed at high level and the maize PEPC expression was inherited in the progenies in a Mendelian manner. The transgenic plants had PEPC activity of more than 10-fold higher than untransformed plants. As compared with untransformed plants, the panicle per plant, spikelet per panicle, 1000-grain weight and grain-weight per plant for transgenic plants increased by 14.9 %, 5.7%, 1.3 % and 13.9 %, respectively. By crossing the maize pepc gene was incorporated into the parents of hybrid rice, which were the photo-sensitive genic male sterile (PGMS)lines of two-line hybrid rice such as Peiai64s, 7001s, 2302s, 2304s and 2306s-1, and the BT type of cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) line of three-line hybrid rice such as Shuangjiu A, and restorer lines 5129, Wanjing97 in the spring of 1998. The following progresses were made: (1) The inheritance of the high-level expression of the maize PEPC was stable in different genetic background of rice; (2) PEPC activity of F1 hybrid was the mean of the two parents. Its saturated photosynthetic rate (Pn) rose to 50 % higher than that of the receptor parent. 11Smyd1 is essential for myosin expression and sarcomere organization in craniofacial,extraocular,and cardiac muscles显示文摘Skeletal and cardiac muscles are striated myofibers that contain highly organized sarcomeres for muscle contraction.Recent studies revealed that Smyd1,a lysine methyltransferase,plays a key role in sarcomere assembly in heart and trunk skeletal muscles.However,Smyd1 expression and function in craniofacial muscles are not known.Here,we analyze the developmental expression and function of two smyd1 paralogous genes,smyd1 a and smyd1 b,in craniofacial and cardiac muscles of zebrafish embryos.Our data show that loss of smyd1a(smyd1a^(mb5))or smyd1b(smyd1b^(sa15678))has no visible effects on myogenic commitment and expression of myod and myosin heavy-chain m RNA transcripts in craniofacial muscles.However,myosin heavy-chain protein accumulation and sarcomere organization are dramatically reduced in smyd1b^(sa15678) single mutant,and almost completely diminish in smyd1a^(mb5);smyd1b^(sa15678) double mutant,but not in smyd1a^(mb5) mutant.Similar defects are also observed in cardiac muscles of smyd1b^(sa15678) mutant.Defective craniofacial and cardiac muscle formation is associated with an upregulation of hsp90α1 and unc45b mRNA expression in smyd1b^(sa15678) and smyd1a^(mb5);smyd1b^(sa15678) mutants.Together,our studies indicate that Smyd1b,but not Smyd1a,plays a key role in myosin heavy-chain protein expression and sarcomere organization in craniofacial and cardiac muscles.Loss of smyd1b results in muscle-specific stress response.Shuang Jiao Rui Xu Shaojun Du 2021Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,3:2
12QNE1 is a key flowering regulator determining the length of the vegetative period in soybean cultivars显示文摘The soybean E1 gene is a major regulator that plays an important role in flowering time and maturity.However,it remains unclear how cultivars carrying the dominant E1 allele adapt to the higher latitudinal areas of northern China.We mapped the novel quantitative trait locus QNE1(QTL near E1) for flowering time to the region proximal to E1 on chromosome 6 in two mapping populations.Positional cloning revealed Glyma.06G204300,encoding a TCP-type transcription factor,as a strong candidate gene for QNE1.Association analysis further confirmed that functional single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) at nucleotides 686 and 1,063 in the coding region of Glyma.06G204300 were significantly associated with flowering time.The protein encoded by the candidate gene is localized primarily to the nucleus.Furthermore,soybean and Brassica napus plants overexpressing Glyma.06G204300 exhibited early flowering.We conclude that despite their similar effects on flowering time,QNE1 and E4 may control flowering time through different regulatory mechanisms,based on expression studies and weighted gene co-expression network analysis of flowering time-related genes.Deciphering the molecular basis of QNE1 control of flowering time enriches our knowledge of flowering gene networks in soybean and will facilitate breeding soybean cultivars with broader latitudinal adaptation.Zhengjun Xia Hong Zhai Yanfeng Zhang Yaying Wang Lu Wang Kun Xu Hongyan Wu Jinglong Zhu Shuang Jiao Zhao Wan Xiaobin Zhu Yi Gao Yingxiang Liu Rong Fan Shihao Wu Xin Chen Jinyu Liu Jiayin Yang Qijian Song Zhixi Tian 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,12:1

14Combined effects of electroacupuncture and anti-depression drugs on the hippocampus and frontal lobe显示文摘Electroacupuncture(EA) has been clinically used to treat depression and has resulted in favorable effects in China.However,results from animal studies and pathology do not reflect the influence of electroacupuncture treatment on in vivo physiological functions.To thoroughly and dynamically observe pathological changes during depression,the present study established EA + fluoxetine and fluoxetine groups to observe depression in patients.1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy was utilized to determine the correlation between hippocampal frontal lobe metabolite changes and mental disorder scale.Results revealed significantly increased N-acetylaspartate(NAA)/creatine(Cr) in the bilateral hippocampus and right frontal lobe of depression patients treated with EA compared with fluoxetine.Changes in NAA/Cr in bilateral hippocampus and right frontal lobe in both groups,before and after treatment,negatively correlated with severity and curative effects.Choline/Cr changes in the bilateral frontal lobes of both groups were significant before and after treatment,but negatively correlated with curative effects.Choline/Cr changes in the bilateral hippocampus were significant in the EA + fluoxetine group before and after treatment,but negatively correlated with severity and the curative effects of depression.These results demonstrate abnormal biochemical metabolism in bilateral frontal lobes and hippocampus of depression patients,and show that EA significantly altered biochemical indices in the frontal lobes and hippocampus compared with fluoxetine.Dongmei Duan Ya Tu Shuang Jiao Liping Chen 2010Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,22:1
15Clinical epidemiology and disease burden of bronchiolitis in hospitalized children in China:a national cross-sectional study显示文摘Background Bronchiolitis is a common acute lower respiratory tract infection(ALRTI)and the most frequent cause of hospitalization of infants and young children with ALRTI.Respiratory syncytial virus is the main pathogen that leads to severe bronchiolitis.The disease burden is relatively high.To date,few descriptions of the clinical epidemiology and disease burden of children hospitalized for bronchiolitis are available.This study reports the general clinical epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of bronchiolitis in hospitalized children in China.Methods This study included the face sheet of discharge medical records collected from 27 tertiary children’s hospitals from January 2016 to December 2020 that were aggregated into the FUTang Update medical REcords(FUTURE)database.The sociodemographic variables,length of stay(LOS)and disease burden of children with bronchiolitis were analyzed and compared using appropriate statistical tests.Results In total,42,928 children aged 0–3 years were hospitalized due to bronchiolitis from January 2016 to December 2020,accounting for 1.5%of the total number of hospitalized children of the same age in the database during the period and 5.31%of the hospitalizations for ALRTI.The male to female ratio was 2.01:1.Meanwhile,more boys than girls were observed in different regions,age groups,years,and residences.The 1–2 year age group had the greatest number of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis,while the 29 days–6 months group had the largest proportion of the total inpatients and inpatients with ALRTI in the same age group.In terms of region,the hospitalization rate of bronchiolitis was the highest in East China.Overall,the number of hospitalizations from 2017 to 2020 showed a decreasing trend from that in 2016.Seasonally,the peak hospitalizations for bronchiolitis occurred in winter.Hospitalization rates in North China in autumn and winter were higher than those in South China,while hospitalization rates in South China were higher in spring and summer.Approximately,half of the patients with bronchiolitis had no complications.Among the complications,myocardial injury,abnormal liver function and diarrhea were more common.The median LOS was 6 days[interquartile range(IQR)=5–8],and the median hospitalization cost was 758 United States dollars(IQR=601.96–1029.53).Conclusions Bronchiolitis is a common respiratory disease in infants and young children in China,and it accounts for a higher proportion of both total hospitalizations and hospitalizations due to ALRTI in children.Among them,children aged 29 days–2 years are the main hospitalized population,and the hospitalization rate of boys is significantly higher than that of girls.The peak season for bronchiolitis is winter.Bronchiolitis causes few complications and has a low mortality rate,but the burden of this disease is heavy.Jiao Tian Xin‑Yu Wang Lin‑Lin Zhang Meng‑Jia Liu Jun‑Hong Ai Guo‑Shuang Feng Yue‑Ping Zeng Ran Wang Zheng‑De Xie 2023World Journal of Pediatrics2023,19,9:1

20Fast growth of large single-crystalline WS_(2) monolayers via chemical vapor deposition显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)tungsten disulfide(WS2)has emerged as a promising ultrathin semiconductor for building high-performance nanoelectronic devices.The controllable synthesis of WS2 monolayers(1L)with both large size and high quality remains as a challenge.Here,we developed a new approach for the chemical vapor deposition(CVD)growth of WS2 monolayers by using K2WS4 as the growth precursor.The simple chemistry involved in our approach allowed for improved controllability and a fast growth rate of~30μm·min−1.We achieved the reliable growth of 1L WS2 flakes with side lengths of up to~500μm and the obtained WS2 flakes were 2D single crystals with low density of defects over a large area as evidenced by various spectroscopic and microscopic characterizations.In addition,the large 1L WS2 single crystals we obtained showed higher electrical performance than their counterparts grown with previous approaches,demonstrating the potential of our approach in producing high quality and large 2D semiconductors for future nanoelectronics.Shengxue Zhou Lina Liu Shuang Cui Xiaofan Ping Dake Hu Liying Jiao 2021Nano Research2021,14,6:1
