| 2 | Kallistatin,a new and reliable biomarker for the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis显示文摘Kallistatin,which protects organs and cells against inflammation,fibrosis and oxidative stress,is mainly synthesized and secreted in liver.However,its relationship to human liver disease remains unclear.The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between serum kallistatin and clinical evidence of both cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),and to determine if serum kallistatin levels could be used as a diagnostic indicator of hepatic health status,especially human liver cirrhosis(LC).Our cohort consisted of 115 patients with clinically proven liver fibrosis(LF),LC,or HCC by liver biopsies,and 31 healthy controls(CON).Serum kallistatin levels were quantified by ELISA.Results of the present study demonstrated that irrespective of the underlying etiology,serum kallistatin levels were significantly lower in the LF/LC group when compared with the CON group.A decrease in serum kallistatin levels appeared to reflect the extent of cirrhosis,with the lowest levels associated with higher grades of cirrhosis.Patients with LC had a noticeable correlation between serum kallistatin levels and other serum biochemical indicators.The area under the curve(AUC) for LC,viral liver cirrhosis(VLC)and alcoholic liver cirrhosis(ALC) was 0.845,0.757 and 0.931,respectively.In conclusion,our findingsdemonstrated that kallistatin,a plasma protein produced by the liver,can be a useful and reliable diagnostic indicator of hepatic health status,especially for LC. | Zhiyun Cheng Yinghui Lv Suqiu Pang Ruyu Bai Mingxi Wang Shuyu Lin Tianwen Xu Duncan Spalding Nagy Habib Ruian Xu | 2015 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2015,5,3: | 7 |

| 4 | A novel lineage of osteoprogenitor cells with dual epithelial and mesenchymal properties govern maxillofacial bone homeostasis and regeneration after MSFL显示文摘Bone regeneration originates from proliferation and differentiation of osteoprogenitors via either endochondral or intramembranous ossifcation;and the regeneration capacities decline with age and estrogen loss.Maillary sinus floor lifting(MSFL)is a commonly used surgical procedure for guiding bone regeneration in mailla.Radiographic analysis of 1210 clinical cases of maxilla bone regeneration after MSFL revealed that the intrasinus osteogenic eficacy was independent of age and gender,however;and this might be related to the Schneiderian membrane that lines the sinus cavity.In view of the particularity of this biological process,our present study aimed to elucidate the underlying mechanism of MSFL-induced bone regeneration.We frst established a murine model to simulate the clinical MSFL.By single cell RNA-sequencing and flow cytometry-based bulk RNA-sequencing,we identifed a novel Krt14^(+)Ctsk^(+)subset of cells that display both epithelial and mesenchymal properties and the transcriptomic feature of osteoprogenitors.Dual recombinases-mediated lineage tracing and oss-offunction analyses showed that these Krt14^(+)Ctsk^(+)progenitors contribute to both MSFL-induced osteogenesis and physiological bone homeostasis by differentiating into Krt14 Ctsk^(+)descendants which show robust osteogenic capacity.In addition,we detected a similar population of Kt14^(+)Ctsk^(+)cells in human samples of Schneiderian membrane,which show a highly similar osteogenic potential and transcriptomic feature to the corresponding cells in mice.The identifcation of this Krt14^(+)Ctsk^(+)population,featured by osteoprogenitor charateristics and dual epithelial-mesenchymal properties,provides new insight into the understanding of bone regeneration and may open more possibilities for clinical applications. | Yuteng Weng Haicheng Wang Di Wu Shuyu Xu Xiaofan Chen Jie Huang Yanhuizhi Feng Lin Li Zuolin Wang | 2022 | Cell Research2022,32,9: | 5 |

| 7 | Allotransplantation of adult spinal cord tissues after complete transected spinal cord injury: long-term survival and functional recovery in canines显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI), especially complete transected SCI, leads to loss of cells and extracellular matrix and functional impairments. In a previous study, we transplanted adult spinal cord tissues(aSCTs) to replace lost tissues and facilitate recovery in a rat SCI model. However, rodents display considerable differences from human patients in the scale, anatomy and functions of spinal cord systems, and responses after injury. Thus, use of a large animal SCI model is required to examine the repair efficiency of potential therapeutic approaches. In this study, we transplanted allogenic aSCTs from adult dogs to the lesion area of canines after complete transection of the thoracic spinal cord, and investigated the long-term cell survival and functional recovery. To enhance repair efficiency, a growth factor cocktail was added during aSCT transplantation, providing a favorable microenvironment. The results showed that transplantation of a SCTs, in particular with the addition of growth factors, significantly improves locomotor function restoration and increases the number of neurofilament-, microtubule-associated protein2-, 5-hydroxytryptamine-, choline acetyltransferase-and tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the lesion area at 6 months post-surgery. In addition, we demonstrated that donor neurons in a SCTs can survive for a long period after transplantation. The optical data storage capacity resulting from abundant defect states enables PSPs to be applied to information storage. | 20 | Symmetry-aware recursive image similarity exploration for materials microscopy显示文摘In pursuit of scientific discovery,vast collections of unstructured structural and functional images are acquired;however,only an infinitesimally small fraction of this data is rigorously analyzed,with an even smaller fraction ever being published.One method to accelerate scientific discovery is to extract more insight from costly scientific experiments already conducted.Unfortunately,data from scientific experiments tend only to be accessible by the originator who knows the experiments and directives.Moreover,there are no robust methods to search unstructured databases of images to deduce correlations and insight.Here,we develop a machine learning approach to create image similarity projections to search unstructured image databases.To improve these projections,we develop and train a model to include symmetry-aware features.As an exemplar,we use a set of 25,133 piezoresponse force microscopy images collected on diverse materials systems over five years.We demonstrate how this tool can be used for interactive recursive image searching and exploration,highlighting structural similarities at various length scales.This tool justifies continued investment in federated scientific databases with standardized metadata schemas where the combination of filtering and recursive interactive searching can uncover synthesis-structure-property relations.We provide a customizable open-source package(https://github.com/m3-learning/Recursive_Symmetry_Aware_Materials_Microstructure_Explorer)of this interactive tool for researchers to use with their data. | Tri N.M.Nguyen Yichen Guo Shuyu Qin Kylie S.Frew Ruijuan Xu Joshua C.Agar | 2021 | npj Computational Materials2021,,1: | 0 |
