Special Section:SARS-CoV-2 Preliminary evidence from a multicenter prospective observational study of the safety and efficacy of chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19显示文摘Effective therapies are urgently needed for the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.Chloroquine has been proved to have antiviral effect against coronavirus in vitro. In this study,we aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of chloroquine with different doses in COVID-19.In this multicenter prospective observational study,we enrolled patients older than 18 years old with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection excluding critical cases from 12 hospitals in Guangdong and Hubei Provinces.Eligible patients received chloroquinephosphate s00 mg,orally, once(half dose)or twice(full dose)daily.Patients treated with non-chloroquine therapy were included as historical controls. The primary endpoint is the time to undetectable viral RNA.Secondary outcomes include the proportion of patients with undetectable viral RNA by day 10 and 14,hospitalization time, duration of fever, and adverse events.A total of 197 patients completed chloroquine treatment, and 176patients were included as historical controls. The median time to achieve an undetectable viral RNA was shorter in chloroquine than in non-chloroquine(absolute difference in medians-6.0 days;95%CI-6.0 to—4.0).The duration of fever is shorter in chloroquine(geometric mean ratio 0.6;95%CIO.5 to 0.8).No serious adverse events were observed in the chloroquine group.Patients treated with half dose experienced lower rate of adverse events than with full dose.Although randomized trials are needed for further evaluation, this study provides evidence for safety and efficacy of chloroquine in COVID-19 and suggests that chloroquine can be a cost-effective therapy for combating the COVID-19 pandemic.Mingxing Huang Man Li Fei Xiao Pengfei Pang Jiabi Liang Tiantian Tang Shaoxuan Liu Binghui Chen Jingxian Shu Yingying You Yang Li Meiwen Tang Jianhui Zhou Guanmin Jiang Jingfen Xiang Wenxin Hong Songmei He Zhaoqin Wang Jianhua Feng Changqing Lin Yinong Ye Zhilong Wu Yaocai Li Bei Zhong Ruilin Sun Zhongsi Hong Jing Liu Huili Chen Xiaohua Wang Zhonghe Li Duanqing Pei Lin Tian Jinyu Xia Shanping Jiang Nanshan Zhong Hong Shan 2020National Science Review2020,7,9:20
Changes of soil microbial communities during decomposition of straw residues under different land uses显示文摘Monitoring soil microbial communities can lead to better understanding of the transformation processes of organic carbon in soil. The present study investigated the changes of soil microbial communities during straw decomposition in three fields, i.e., cropland, peach orchard and vineyard. Straw decomposition was monitored for 360 d using a mesh-bag method. Soil microbial metabolic activity and functional diversity were measured using the Biolog-Eco system. In all three fields, dried straws with a smaller size decomposed faster than their fresh counterparts that had a larger size. Dried corn straw decomposed slower than dried soybean straw in the early and middle stages, while the reverse trend was found in the late stage. The cropland showed the highest increase in microbial metabolic activity during the straw decomposition, whereas the peach orchard showed the lowest. There was no significant change in the species dominance or evenness of soil microbial communities during the straw decomposition. However, the species richness fluctuated significantly, with the peach orchard showing the highest richness and the cropland the lowest. With different carbon sources, the peach orchard utilised carbon the most, followed by the cropland and the vineyard. In all three fields, carbon was utilized in following decreasing order: saccharides>amino acids>polymers>polyamines>carboxylic acids>aromatic compounds. In terms of carbon-source utilization, soil microbial communities in the peach orchard were less stable than those in the cropland. The metabolic activity and species dominance of soil microbial communities were negatively correlated with the straw residual percentage. Refractory components were primarily accumulated in the late stages, thus slowing down the straw decomposition. The results showed that dried and crushed corn straw was better for application in long-term fields. The diversity of soil microbial communities was more stable in cropland than in orchards during the straw decomposition.ZHANG Hong XU Wenxin LI Yubao LYU Jialong CAO Yingfei HE Wenxiang 2017Journal of Arid Land2017,9,5:9
Hybrid nano-scale Au with ITO structure for a high-performance near-infrared silicon-based photodetector with ultralow dark current显示文摘An internal photoemission-based silicon photodetector detects light below the silicon bandgap at room temperature and can exhibit spectrally broad behavior, making it potentially suited to meet the need for a near-infrared pure Si photodetector. In this work, the implementation of a thin Au insertion layer into an ITO/n-Si Schottky photodetector can profoundly affect the barrier height and significantly improve the device performance.By fabricating a nanoscale thin Au layer and an ITO electrode on a silicon substrate,we achieve a well-behaved ITO/Au/n-Si Schottky diode with a record dark current density of 3.7×10^(−7) A/cm^(2) at−1 V and a high rectification ratio of 1.5×10^(8) at±1 V.Furthermore, the responsivity has been obviously improved without sacrificing the dark current performance of the device by decreasing the Au thickness.Such a silicon-based photodetector with an enhanced performance could be a promising strategy for the realization of a monolithic integrated pure silicon photodetector in optical communication.Xinxin Li Zhen Deng Jun Li Yangfeng Li Linbao Guo Yang Jiang Ziguang Ma Lu Wang Chunhua Du Ying Wang Qingbo Meng Haiqiang Jia Wenxin Wang Wuming Liu Hong Chen 2020Photonics Research2020,8,11:4

Temperature dependence of photoluminescence from self-organized Ge quantum dots with large size and low density显示文摘Photoluminescence(PL) from self-organized Ge quantum dots(QDs) with large size and low density has been investigated over a temperature range from 10 to 300 K using continuous-wave(CW) optical excitation. The integrated PL intensity of QDs observed is negligible at about 10 K and rapidly increases with raising temperature up to 100 K.Through analyzing the PL experimental data of the QDs and wetting layer(WL),we provide direct evidence that there exists a potential barrier, arising from the greater compressive strain surrounding large QDs,which could trap carriers in WL at low temperatures and could be overcome via increasing temperature.LI Hui HE Tao DAI LongGui WANG XiaoLi WANG WenXin CHEN Hong 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,2:1
The Limitation of Rapid Tests for DENV2 Infection in Host with Unique Immune Status:Low NS1 Antigenemia and Deficient Antibody Responses显示文摘Dear Editor,Dengue infections are caused by all four serotypes of dengue virus(DENV1–4).In recent years it has been confirmed that DENV-1 and DENV-2 are co-circulated in Guangzhou,Guangdong,China(Lai et al.2015;Luo et al.2017).DENV-2 strains were imported from Thailand and Indonesia(Luo et al.2017;Zhao et al.2014,2016),and had become the second local circulated serotype in Guangzhou.Lei Yu Yingfen Wen Mengrong Xiang Wenxin Hong Lingzhai Zhao Fuchun Zhang 2020Virologica Sinica2020,35,4:0
MBE growth of high absorption mid-IR type-II InAs/GaSb superlattices显示文摘Two kinds of short-period type II superlattices(SLs)InAs(6 monolayers(MLs))/GaSb(3 MLs)and InAs(8 MLs)/GaSb(8 MLs)which can serve for mid-infrared(MIR)detection have been grown by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE)on p-type GaSb(100)substrates.The cutoff wavelength for the two superlattices(SLs)was found to be around 4.8 lm at 300 K.The high resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD)measurements indicated that the InAs(8 MLs)/GaSb(8 MLs)SLs have better crystalline quality than that of the InAs(6 MLs)/GaSb(3 MLs)SLs.However, compared with infrared absorption in the 2.5–4.3 lm range, the optical absorption of InAs(6 MLs)/GaSb(3MLs)SLs was more excellent. This can be attributed to increase probability of the electron and hole wave function overlap in the thinner period thickness.Geng Wang Lu Wang Hong Chen Wenxin Wang Zhenwu Shi Yulong Chen Miao He Pingyuan Lu Weining Qian 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,20:0
Association between serum albumin levels and disease severity in adult patients with dengue: A 7-year retrospective cohort study in China's Mainland显示文摘Objective:To identify the association between serum albumin levels and disease severity among adult patients with dengue in China's Mainland. Methods:This retrospective cohort study analyzed the data of adult patients(aged≥18 years)hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed dengue in a tertiary center for infectious diseases from 2013 to 2019 in China's Mainland.Serum albumin levels were estimated and compared between patients with severe dengue and non-severe dengue.Additionally, the association between serum albumin levels and severe dengue was evaluated using a generalized linear model[relative risks(RR)].Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the potential predictors of severe dengue.Results:Overall,1568 patients were included in this study.Of these patients,34(2.17%)developed severe dengue. The median serum albumin levels were significantly lower in patients with severe dengue than that in those with non-severe dengue(33 g/L vs.37 g/L,P<0.001).After adjustment for age, sex, and comorbidities, hypoalbuminemia(RR 4.877,95%CI 2.193-11.461,P<0.001)was found to be a predictor of severe dengue.Serum albumin levels(OR 1.303,95%CI 1.161-1.462,P<0.001)and age(OR 1.038,95%CI 1.017-1.061,P<0.001)were significant risk factors for severe dengue. The area under the curve for serum albumin levels to distinguish severe dengue was 0.787.Conclusions:Lower serum albumin levels were significantly associated with disease severity in adult patients with dengue.Hypoalbuminemia on admission resulted in at least a four-fold increased risk of severe dengue.Changtai Wang Huiqin Yang Jielan Xu Jian Wang Lingzhai Zhao Wenxin Hong Fuchun Zhang 2023Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2023,16,5:0
COVID-19 induces new-onset insulin resistance and lipid metabolic dysregulation via regulation of secreted metabolic factors显示文摘Abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism in COVID-19 patients were recently reported with unclear mechanism. In this study,we retrospectively investigated a cohort of COVID-19 patients without pre-existing metabolic-related diseases, and found new-onset in suli n resista nee, hyperglycemia, and decreased HDL-C in these patie nts.Mecha nistically,SARS-CoV-2 infecti on in creased the expression of RE1-silencing transcription factor(REST),which modulated the expression of secreted metabolic factors including myeloperoxidase, apelin, and myostatin at the transcriptional level, resulting in the perturbation of glucose and lipid metabolism.Furthermore, several lipids,including(±)5-HETE,(±)12-HETE,propionic acid, and isobutyric acid were identified as the potential biomarkers of COVID-19-induced metabolic dysregulation, especially in insulin resistance.Taken together, our study revealed insulin resistance as the direct cause of hyperglycemia upon COVID-19,and further illustrated the underlying mechanisms, providing potential therapeutic targets for COVID-19-induced metabolic complications.Xi He Chenshu Liu Jiangyun Peng Zilun Li Fang Li Jian Wang Ao Hu Meixiu Peng Kan Huang Dongxiao Fan Na Li Fuchun Zhang Weiping Cai Xinghua Tan Zhongwei Hu Xilong Deng Yueping Li Xiaoneng Mo Linghua Li Yaling Shi Li Yang Yuanyuan Zhu Yanrong Wu Huichao Liang Baolin Liao Wenxin Hong Ruiying He Jiaojiao Li Pengle Guo Youguang Zhuo Lingzhai Zhao Fengyu Hu Wenxue Li Wei Zhu Zefeng Zhang Zeling Guo Wei Zhang Xiqiang Hong Wei kang Cai Lei Gu Ziming Du Yang Zhang Jin Xu Tao Zuo Kai Deng Li Yan Xinwen Chen Sifan Chen Chunliang Lei 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,1:0
Genetic and pathogenicity diversity of dengue virus type 2 strains circulating in Guangdong,China显示文摘Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease spread in tropical and subtropical regions caused by the dengue virus(DENV).DENV causes a febrile illness, severe forms including hemorrhagic fevers and shock with fatalities in humans.DENV-2 is frequently associated with severe dengue infections and epidemics.DENV-2 strains from Guangdong,China, have not been characterized to compare the phylogenetics and pathogenicity of different DENV-2 subgenotype strains in both vitro and vivo.A total of 22 patients tested to be DENV-2 positive and were enrolled in this study,22 complete genomes were obtained by virus isolation and high-throughput sequencing.Phylogenetic and single amino polymorphism(SAP)analysis indicated that two major subgenotypes(A and C)of DENV-2 Cosmopolitan were prevalent in Guangdong in 2018.The apparent change of major subgenotypes of DENV-2 circulating in Guangdong indicated the diversity of DENV-2 strains, including endemic genotype and imported genotype. It alerted the risk of cross-border transmission of DENV.A significant difference in replication rate was observed in C6/36 between different DENV-2 strains, although growth kinetics comparison of different DENV-2 Cosmopolitan subgenotypes showed similar profiles.DENV-2 subgenotypes(A and C)replicated efficiently in IFNAR−/−C57BL/6 mice, and subgenotype A of Cosmopolitan infected mice showed increased weight loss and delayed viral clearance compared with the subgenotype C group.DENV-2 prevalent in Guangdong in 2018 showed apparent genetic and pathogenicity diversity in both vitro and vivo, indicating the necessity of molecular surveillance and exploration of the relationship between its pathogenicity and clinical characteristics.Lu Zhang Lingzhai Zhao Zhaoyong Zhang Wenxin Hong Jian Wang Shuang Qiu Huiqin Yang Mian Gan Jing Sun Jingxian Zhao Yanqun Wang Jincun Zhao Fuchun Zhang 2021Biosafety and Health2021,3,6:0

The influence of pressure on the growth of a-plane GaN on r-plane sapphire substrates by MOCVD显示文摘Nonpolar a-plane (110) GaN films have been grown on r-plane (102) sapphire by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) under different growth pressures. The as-grown films are investigated by optical microscopy, high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) and Raman scattering. As growth pressure rises from 100 mbar to 400 mbar, the surface gets rougher, and the in-plane XRD full width at half maximum (FWHM) along the c-axis [0001] increases while that along the m-axis [100] decreases. Meanwhile, residential stresses are reduced along both the c-axis and the m-axis. The structural anisotropy feature under 400 mbar is inverted with respect to 100 mbar, and the weakened anisotropy is achieved under a moderate pressure of 200 mbar, probably due to the suppressed Ga atomic migration along the c-axis under a larger pressure. We propose that pressure can affect a-plane growth through the V/III ratio.HE Tao LI Hui DAI LongGui WANG XiaoLi CHEN Yao MA ZiGuang XU PeiQiang JIANG Yang WANG Lu JIA HaiQiang WANG WenXin CHEN Hong 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,3:0
