2Multiple effects of nitrate amendment on the transport, transformation and bioavailability of antimony in a paddy soil-rice plant system显示文摘Nitrate(NO3^(-))is known to be actively involved in the processes of mineralization and heavy metal transformation;however,it is unclear whether and how it affects the bioavailability of antimony(Sb)in paddy soils and subsequent Sb accumulation in rice.Here,the effects of NO3^(-)on Sb transformation in soil-rice system were investigated with pot experiments over the entire growth period.Results demonstrated that NO3^(-)reduced Sb accumulation in brown rice by 15.6%compared to that in the control.After amendment with NO3^(-),the Sb content in rice plants increased initially and then gradually decreased(in roots by 46.1%).During the first 15 days,the soil p H increased,the oxidation of Sb(Ⅲ)and sulfides was promoted,but the reduction of iron oxide minerals was inhibited,resulting in the release of adsorbed and organic-bound Sb from soil.The microbial arsenite-oxidizing marker gene aox B played an important role in Sb(Ⅲ)oxidation.From days 15 to 45,after NO3^(-)was partially consumed,the soil p H decreased,and the reductive dissolution of Fe(Ⅲ)-bearing minerals was enhanced;consequently,iron oxide-bound Sb was transformed into adsorbed and dissolved Sb species.After day 45,NO3^(-)was completely reduced,Sb(V)was evidently reduced to Sb(Ⅲ),and green rust was generated gradually.Thus,the available Sb decreased due to its enhanced affinity for iron oxides.Moreover,NO3^(-)inhibited the reductive dissolution of iron minerals,which ultimately caused low Sb availability.Therefore,NO3^(-)can chemically and biologically reduce the Sb availability in paddy soils and alleviate Sb accumulation inrice.This study provides a potential strategy for decreasing Sb accumulation in rice in the Sb-contaminated sites.Xiaofeng Zhang Tongxu Liu Fangbai Li Xiaomin Li Yanhong Du Huanyun Yu Xiangqin Wang Chuanpin Liu MiFeng Bing Liao 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,2:6
3The applicability of biochar and zero-valent iron for the mitigation of arsenic and cadmium contamination in an alkaline paddy soil显示文摘In paddy fields, the opposing transformation of arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) poses many challenges for their simultaneous remediation.In our previous study,we reported that combined biochar and zero-valent iron(ZVI)amendment had great potential for the simultaneous alleviation of As and Cd bioavailability in contaminated acid paddy soil.In this study,an As-and Cd-contaminated alkaline paddy soil was further studied,and the same ZVI-biochar mixtures amendments were applied to evaluate the impact of the mixtures on As and Cd transformation and translocation in the soil-rice system by performing pot experiments with rice.In line with our previous study,the ZVI-biochar composites significantly reduced As and Cd accumulation in different rice tissues,leading to a 42%and 47%decrease in rice grain As and Cd levels,respectively,compared with the control values.The ZVI-biochar mixtures exhibited synergistic effects of biochar and ZVI by enhancing the transformation of bioavailable As and Cd fractions into less bioavailable fractions,and by increasing iron plaque formation to reduce As and Cd bioavailability.Although the bioaccumulation and translocation factors of As and Cd in alkaline paddy soil were generally lower than those in acid paddy soil,particularly in the presence of the ZVI-biochar mixtures,the grain As and Cd levels did not achieve the desired food safety standard levels,probably related to the high soil As content and the small changes in soil pH.Nevertheless,for treating lightly and moderately contaminated paddy soils,ZVI-biochar mixtures can still be a good choice in the future.Jiangtao Qiao Huanyun Yu Xiangqin Wang Fangbai Li Qi Wang Yuzhen Yuan Chuanping Liu 2019Biochar2019,1,2:5
4Homoharringtonine synergy with oridonin in treatment of t(8;21) acute myeloid leukemia显示文摘Collaboration of c-KIT mutations with AML1-ETO (AE) has been demonstrated to induce t(8;21) acute myeloid leukemia (AML).Targeted therapies designed to eliminate AE and c-KIT oncoproteins may facilitate effective treatment of t(8;21) AML.Homoharringtonine (HHT) features activity against tumor cells harboring c-KIT mutations,whereas oridonin can induce t(8;21) AML cell apoptosis and AE cleavage.Therefore,studies should explore the efficacy of combination therapy with oridonin and HHT in t(8;21) AML.In this study,we investigated the synergistic effects and mechanism of oridonin combined with HHT in t(8;21) AML cell line and mouse model.The two drugs synergistically inhibited cell viability and induced significant mitochondrial membrane potential loss and apoptosis.Oridonin and HHT induced significant downregulation of c-KIT and its downstream signaling pathways and promoted AE cleavage.HHT increased intracellular oridonin concentration by modulating the expressions of MRP1 and MDR1,thus enhancing the effects of oridonin.The combination of oridonin and HHT prolonged t(8;21) leukemia mouse survival.In conclusion,oridonin and HHT exert synergistic effects against t(8;21) leukemia in vivo and in vitro,thereby indicating that their combination may be an effective therapy for t(8;21) leukemia.Weina Zhang Ying Lu Tao Zhen Xinjie Chen Ming Zhang Ping Liu Xiangqin Weng Bing Chen Yueying Wang 2019Frontiers of Medicine2019,13,3:4
5Ultrastructure of focal cerebral cortex tissue from rats with focal cortical dysplasia显示文摘BACKGROUND: Developing a model of focal cortical dysplasia in microgyrus and observing the ultrastructure of focal tissue is of important significance for analyzing the pathology of cortical developmental disorder and the factors of structural changes. OBJECTIVE: This study was to observe the pathological characteristics of focal tissue around the microgyrus of rats with cortical developmental disorder using an electron microscope, so as to analyze the causes associated with cerebral cortical developmental disorder. DESIGN: A randomized controlled animal experiment. SETTING: The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. MATERIALS: This study was carried out in the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Neurology, Room for Electron Microscope of Chongqing Medical University, and Laboratory Animal Center, Research Institute of Surgery, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA between January 2004 and August 2006. Eighteen healthy newborn male Wistar rats, weighing 3.0-6.0 g, provided by the Laboratory Animal Center, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA, were involved in this study. The protocol was carried out in accordance with animal ethics guidelines for the use and care of animals. Probes (Chongqing Wire & Cable Factory, China) were made of copper core wire with diameter of 1 mm. METHODS: The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6 in each: normal control group, liquid nitrogen injured group and sham-operation group. ①In the liquid nitrogen injured group, a blunt probe frozen by liquid nitrogen was placed on fronto-parietal crinial bone of rats for 8 s. A 3-5 cm of microgyrus was induced in the unilateral cerebral sensory cortical area. In the sham-operation group, probe was placed at the room temperature. In the normal control group, rats were untouched. ② The conscious state and electrical activity of brain of rats in each group were observed. ③ 2-3 mm thickness of hippocampal tissue with coronary section was taken for observing its ultrastructure under a transmission electron microscope. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① The ultrastructure of hippocampal tissue. ②The conscious state and electrical activity of brain of rats. RESULTS: Eighteen rats were enrolled in the final analysis. ① Observation of hippocampal ultrastructure: Electromicroscopic pathological findings showed that for each rat of the liquid nitrogen injured group, mitochondrium in the pyramidal neuron around the microgyrus was swelled, endoplasmic reticulum was expanded, glial cells were swelled, water gathered around the blood capillary, partial medullary sheath was degenerated, neuropilem was normal and no obviously abnormal synapse was found. ② Changes in conscious state of rats: Rats in the normal control group and sham-operation group had no convulsive seizure, but those in the liquid nitrogen injured group had occasionally. Most of them showed increased activities, excitation and restlessness, scratching and frequent ' watching face-like activities'. ③Electrical activity of brain of rats: Electroencephalogram recording of liquid nitrogen injured group showed that small wave amplitude of rhythm took the main part. No typical sharp wave, V wave, sharp and slow wave, V and slow waves were discharged. CONCLUSION: Liquid nitrogen can lead to cerebral cortical developmental disorder. 7Effects ofβ-alanine on intestinal development and immune performance of weaned piglets显示文摘Beta-alanine is an important amino acid involved in several metabolic reactions in the body.The study aimed to investigate the effect ofβ-alanine supplementation on intestinal development and the immune performance of weaned piglets.Thirty-two 21-day-old healthy weaned piglets(half female and half male;Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire)with an initial body weight of 8.11±0.21 kg were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 replicates of 1 pig each.The control group was fed a basal diet and the three experimental treatment groups were fed diets supplemented with 300,600 and 1,200 mg/kgβ-alanine,respectively.The trial lasted 28 days and the diets fed were divided into 2 phases:the late lactation period(day 1 to 14)and the nursery period(day 15 to 28),during which the weaned piglets had free access to food and water.The regulatory effects ofβ-alanine were further investigated in vitro using organoids obtained from the jejunum of piglets.In vivo,the addition ofβ-alanine to the diet had no significant effect on the growth performance of weaned piglets(P>0.05),but significantly reduced serum levels of immunoglobulin G(IgG)(P<0.01),immunoglobulin M(IgM)(P=0.005),and complement 3(C3)(P=0.017).The serum interleukin-6(IL-6)levels(P<0.01)were significantly reduced in the 1,200 mg/kg treatment group.The addition ofβ-alanine increased ileal villus height,with the most significant effect at a concentration of 300 mg/kg(P=0.041).The addition of 600 mg/kgβ-alanine significantly up-regulated the expression of superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity(P=0.020)and the zonula occludens-1(ZO-1)gene(P=0.049)in the jejunum.Diets supplemented with 300 mg/kgβ-alanine significantly increased the number of Ki67 positive cells in the jejunal crypts(P<0.01).In vitro,β-alanine increased the organoid budding rates(P=0.001)and the budding height of the crypt significantly(P=0.004).In conclusion,β-alanine can improve intestinal morphology and barrier function,reduce inflammatory responses and alleviate the adverse effects of weaning stress on piglet intestinal health.Linlin Chen Yan Zhong Xiangqin Ouyang Chunfeng Wang Lanmei Yin Jing Huang Yali Li Qiye Wang Junyan Xie Pengfei Huang Huansheng Yang Yulong Yin 2023Animal Nutrition2023,,1:2
8Evaluation of chitosaneanionic polymers based tablets for extended-release of highly watersoluble drugs显示文摘The objective of this study is to develop chitosaneanionic polymers based extendedrelease tablets and test the feasibility of using this system for the sustained release of highly water-soluble drugs with high drug loading.Here,the combination of sodium valproate(VPS)and valproic acid(VPA)were chosen as the model drugs.Anionic polymers studied include xanthan gum(XG),carrageenan(CG),sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC-Na)and sodium alginate(SA).The tablets were prepared by wet granulation method.In vitro drug release was carried out under simulated gastrointestinal condition.Drug release mechanism was studied.Compared with single polymers,chitosaneanionic polymers based system caused a further slowdown of drug release rate.Among them,CS exanthan gum matrix system exhibited the best extended-release behavior and could extend drug release for up to 24 h.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)studies demonstrated that polyelectrolyte complexes(PECs)were formed on the tablet surface,which played an important role on retarding erosion and swelling of the matrix in the later stage.In conclusion,this study demonstrated that it is possible to develop highly water-soluble drugs loaded extendedrelease tablets using chitosaneanionic polymers based system.Yang Shao Liang Li Xiangqin Gu Linlin Wang Shirui Mao 2015Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2015,10,1:2
9^(210)Pb Chronology and Trace Metal Geochemistry in the Intertidal Sediment of Qinjiang River Estuary, China显示文摘Historical records of metal inputs were studied by using a sediment core collected from a sand-rich mudflat in the Qinjiang River estuary, China. 210Pb chronology was used to reconstruct the fluxes of Hg, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Cr and As to the core site during the last 86 years. Based on the constant initial concentration model, the sedimentation rates are 1.18 cm year-1 in the top 30 cm sandy layer and 0.92 cm year-1 in the muddy bottom layer. To compensate for grain-size and mineralogy effects on metal concentra-tions, aluminum was used as the normalizing element. The enrichment factors (EF) indicate that the natural inputs had prevailed up to the early 1980s. After this period, the intensity of human activities has resulted in continual increasing trend of metals towards the surface. Recent sediment samples from the Qinjiang River estuary are found moderately enriched by Cd (EF>1.5) and slightly enriched by other metals (EF<1.5). 10Rare earth elements-rich phase and enriching mechanism in sediments from CC area, the Pacific Ocean显示文摘Compared to North American shale composition (NASC), REE contents of sediments from the CC area in the Pacific Ocean are obviously high except that cerium has equal content to that of NASC. Three-valence rare earth elements were completely enriched in phosphate-phase and cerium in iron-phase. Rare earth elements in the sediments were originally derived from seawater. 14Tunable and sustained-release characteristics of venlafaxine hydrochloride from chitosan–carbomer matrix tablets based on in situ formed polyelectrolyte complex film coating显示文摘The objective of this study is to design sustained-release tablets using matrix technology, which can well control the release of highly water-soluble drugs with good system robustness and simple preparation process. Taking venlafaxine hydrochloride(VH) as a drug model, the feasibility of using chitosan(CS), carbomer(CBM) combination system to achieve this goal was studied. Formulation and process variables influencing drug release from CS–CBM matrix tablets were investigated. It was found that CS–CBM combination system weakened the potential influence of CS, CBM material properties and gastric emptying time on drug release profile. Demonstrated by direct observation, differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), in situ self-assembled polyelectrolyte complex(PEC) film was formed on the tablet surface during gastrointestinal tract transition, which contributed to the tunable and robust control of drug release. The sustained drug release behavior was further demonstrated in vivo in Beagle dogs, with level A in vitro and in vivo correlation(IVIVC) established successfully. 20Exploration and preliminary clinical investigation of an adhesive approach for primary tooth restoration显示文摘The current study aims to investigate a suitable adhesive for primary tooth enamel. Shear bond strength(SBS)of primary teeth and the length of resin protrusion were analyzed using one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni multiple comparison tests after etching with 35% H_(3)PO_(4). SBS and marginal microleakage tests were conducted with Single Bond Universal(SBU)/Single Bond 2(SB2) adhesives with or without pre-etching using a nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test. Clinical investigations were performed to validate the adhesive for primary teeth restoration using Chi-square tests. Results showed that the SBS and length of resin protrusion increased significantly with the etching time. Teeth in the SBU with 35% H_(3)PO_(4)pre-etching groups had higher bond strength and lower marginal microleakage than those in the SB2 groups. Mixed fractures were more common in the 35% H_(3)PO_(4)etched 30 s + SB2/SBU groups. Clinical investigations showed significant differences between the two groups in cumulative retention rates at the 6-, 12-and 18-month follow-up evaluations, as well as in marginal adaptation, discoloration, and secondary caries at the 12-and 18-month follow-up assessments.Together, pre-etching primary teeth enamel for 30 s before SBU treatment improved clinical composite resin restoration, which can provide a suitable approach for restoration of primary teeth.Xiangqin Xu Jiansheng Zhu May Lei Mei Huaying Wu Kaipeng Xie Shoulin Wang Yaming Chen 2023The Journal of Biomedical Research2023,37,2:0
