| 1 | Mechanisms underlying attenuation of apoptosis of cortical neurons in the hypoxic brain by flavonoids from the stems and leaves of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi显示文摘Flavonoids from the stems and leaves of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, an antioxidant, markedly improve memory impairments and neuronal injuries. In the present study, primary cortical neurons of rats were exposed to potassium cyanide to establish a model of in vitro neural cell apoptosis. Inhibition of apoptosis by flavonoids from the stems and leaves of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi at concentrations of 18.98, 37.36, and 75.92 μg/mL was detected using this model. These flavonoids dramatically increased cell survival, inhibited cell apoptosis and excessive production of malondialdehyde, and increased the activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and Na+-K+-ATPase in primary cortical neurons exposed to potassium cyanide. The flavonoids from the stems and leaves of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi were originally found to have a polyhydric structure and to protect against cerebral hypoxia in in vitro and in vivo models, including hypoxia induced by potassium cyanide or cerebral ischemia. | 2 | Development of a new method for analyzing free aluminum ions(Al^(3+)) in seafood using HPLC-ICP-MS显示文摘This paper presents a novel method for simultaneous online examination of free aluminum ions(Al3+)in seafood,using solidphase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography online with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(SPEHPLC-ICP-MS),without post-column reaction.The optimum conditions for chromatographic separation of Al3+were achieved using an IonPac CS5A analytical column with an IonPac CG5A guard column.The mobile phase consisted of 0.040 mol/L LiOH,0.0060 mol/L 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid,and 0.090 mol/L CH3COOH(pH 4.7).The free Al3+ions in seafood were extracted by shaking with the mobile phase at 70°C for 2 h.SPE was conducted using an Oasis MCX,3cc/60 mg,30μm column,which was activated and equilibrated with 2 mL of methanol and 4 mL of deionized water before use.HCl(0.075 mol/L,2 mL)was used to wash inorganic Al from the SPE column.The standard recoveries of Al3+were all above 89%and the relative standard deviations were all below 5%.The proposed method was successfully used for the examination of Al3+in seafood samples,and the results were similar to those obtained using the static equilibrium method. | SHANG DeRong ZHAO YanFang ZHAI YuXiu NING JinSong DING HaiYan SHENG XiaoFeng | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013，58，35： | 8 |

| 4 | Optical observations of LIGO source GW 170817 by the Antarctic Survey Telescopes at Dome A,Antarctica显示文摘The LIGO detection of gravitational waves(GW) from merging black holes in 2015 marked the beginning of a new era in observational astronomy. The detection of an electromagnetic signal from a GW source is the critical next step to explore in detail the physics involved. The Antarctic Survey Telescopes(AST3),located at Dome A, Antarctica, is uniquely situated for rapid response time-domain astronomy with its continuous night-time coverage during the austral winter. We report optical observations of the GW source(GW 170817) in the nearby galaxy NGC 4993 using AST3. The data show a rapidly fading transient at around 1 day after the GW trigger, with the i-band magnitude declining from 17:23 ± 0:13 magnitude to 17:72 ± 0:09 magnitude in ~1:8 h. The brightness and time evolution of the optical transient associated with GW 170817 are broadly consistent with the predictions of models involving merging binary neutron stars.
