| 1 | Qingnaoyizhi decoction suppresses the formation of glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells in cultured neural stem cells by inhibiting the Janus kinase 2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 signaling pathway显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Inactivation of the Janus kinase 2(JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3) signaling axis plays a crucial role in determining the fate of neural stem cells(NSCs).Qingnaoyizhi decoction(QNYZD) has been used for the treatment of vascular dementia and has shown to improve synaptic remodeling. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) containing QNYZD(CSF-QNYZD) on the differentiation of cultured NSCs and the involvement of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway.METHODS: The protein expression levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP), tubulin, drosophila mothers against decapentaplegic protein(SMAD-1), STAT3, and phosphorylated-STAT3 were detected by western immunoblot analysis in the groups: control, CSF, JAK/STAT inhibitor(AG490),CSF-QNYZD, and CSF-XDZ(CSF-Xidezhen). The differentiation of NSCs was determined by immunofluorescence staining. The proliferation of NSCs was measured using the Cell Counting Kit-8 proliferation assay.RESULTS: Compared with the control group,CSF-QNYZD and AG490 significantly increased the number and expression of tubulin-positive cells, reduced the number and expression of GFAP-positive cells, and down-regulated the expression of p-STAT3. However, CSF-QNYZD also decreased the expression of SMAD-1 and STAT3.CONCLUSION: Enhanced neuronal differentiation may be associated with the down-regulation of glial differentiation instead of promoting proliferationin treated NSCs. Furthermore, QNYZD may play a direct role in suppressing the formation of GFAP-positive cells and enhancing neuronal differentiation by inhibiting JAK2/STAT3 activation. | 2 | Evaluation of maize inbred lines currently used in Chinese breeding programs for resistance to six foliar diseases显示文摘Foliar diseases are common in most maize-producing regions and have caused serious yield reduction in China. To evaluate genetic resistance of parental lines actively used in maize breeding programs to major foliar diseases, 152 maize inbred lines were tested against northern corn leaf blight(NCLB), southern corn leaf blight(SCLB), Curvularia leaf spot(CLS),gray leaf spot(GLS), common rust, and southern rust from 2003 to 2005. A small number of lines exhibited highly resistant reactions to common rust and southern rust, but none were highly resistant to NCLB, SCLB, CLS, and GLS. Although 53.3%, 40.8%, and 80.7% of lines were resistant to NCLB, SCLB, and common rust, the resistance in most lines was moderate.Resistance to CLS, GLS, and southern rust was rare in this collection of maize lines. Five lines,313, Chang 7-2, Qi 319, Qi 318, and Shen 137, were resistant to five diseases tested. Lines belonging to heterotic subgroup PB exhibited better resistance to the foliar diseases than lines from other heterotic subgroups, such as BSSS, PA, Lancaster, LRC, and PA. | 3 | A meta-analysis of Chinese herbal medicines for vascular dementia显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicines in the treatment of patients with vascular dementia. DATA RETRIEVAL: We retrieved publications from Cochrane Library (2004 to July 2011), PubMed (1966 to July 2011), the Chinese Science and Technique Journals Database (1977 to July 2011), the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (1979 to July 2011), Google Scholar (July 2011), and the Chinese Biomedical Database (1977 to July 2011) using the'Chinese medicine OR Chinese herbal medicine' and 'vascular dementia OR mild cognition impair OR multi-infarct dementia OR small-vessel dementia OR strategic infarct dementia OR hypoperfusion dementia OR hemorrhagic dementia OR hereditary vascular dementia'. SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomized controlled trials comparing Chinese herbal medicines with placebo/western medicine in the treatment of patients with vascular dementia were included. Diagnostic standards included Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV, and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and Association Internationale pour la Recherché et l'Enseignement en Neurosciences. Two participants independently conducted literature screening, quality evaluation and data extraction. The quality of each trial was assessed according to the Cochrane Reviewers' Handbook 5.0. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Effective rate, Mini-Mental State Examination scores, Hasegawa Dementia Scale scores, and incidence of adverse reactions. RESULTS: We identified 1 143 articles discussing the effects of Chinese medicine on vascular dementia. Thirty-one of these were included in the analysis. These studies involved a total of 2 868 participants (1 605 patients took Chinese medicine decoctions (treatment group); 1 263 patients took western medicine or placebo). The results of our meta-analysis revealed that Chinese herbal remedies in the treatment group were more efficacious than the control intervention (relative risk (RR)=1.27; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18-1.38, P<0.01). Mini-Mental State Examination scores were higher in patients taking Chinese herbal medicines than in those in the control group (weighted mean difference (WMD)=2.83; 95%CI: 2.55-3.12, P<0.01). Patients in the treatment group showed better disease amelioration than those in the control group (Hasegawa Dementia Scale scores; WMD=2.41, 95%CI: 1.48-3.34, P<0.01). There were also considerably fewer adverse reactions among those in the treatment group compared with those in the control group (RR=0.20, 95%CI: 0.08-0.47, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Chinese herbal medicine appears to be safer and more effective than control measures in the treatment of vascular dementia. However, the included trials were generally low in quality. | 5 | Anti-apoptotic efficacy of Qingnao Yizhi formula(清脑益智方)in hypoxia/reoxygenation primary cortical neurons through the promotion of synaptic plasticity by modulating the NogoA-Nogo receptor/Rho-Rho kinase signaling pathway显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the anti-apoptotic efficacy of Qingnao Yizhi formula(清脑益智方,QNYZ)in cultured cerebral cortical neuronal cells(CNCs)and the regulation of the NogoA-Nogo receptor(NgR)/Rho-Rho kinase(ROCK)signaling pathway.METHODS:Primary cultured CNCs were randomly divided into the following groups:normal control group(N-C),hypoxia-reoxygenation group(H/R),high-dose QNYZ group(Q-H),low-dose QNYZ group(Q-L)butylphthalide(NBP)group,and Y-27632(a selective ROCK transduction pathway inhibiter)group.Except those in the N-C group,CNCs were placed in hypoxic conditions for 24 h and then in reoxygenation conditions for 24 h.Cell media was changed every 48 h,and various assays were performed on the 7 th day.Cell viability was evaluated by measuring mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity,using a CCK-8 assay,in triplicate.Synapsin(SYN)protein concentrations were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.NogoA and RhoA protein expression were evaluated through Western blotting.The gene expression of NogoA,NgR,RhoA,and ROCK was evaluated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.Cell apoptosis was measured using a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase biotin-d UTP nick end labeling assay.RESULTS:Compared with the N-C group,the cell viability of the H/R group decreased significantly(P<0.05).The cell viability values for the Q-H and Q-L groups increased compared with that for the H/R group,and the difference was significant for the Q-H group(P<0.05).The NogoA and RhoA protein levels and the NogoA,NgR,RhoA,and ROCK m RNA expression levels increased in the H/R group,compared with the N-C group,and decreased significantly in the Q-H and Q-L groups(P<0.05)and in the Y-27632 group(P<0.05)compared with the H/R group.The SYN levels in the Q-H,Q-L,and NBP groups significantly increased compared with that in the H/R group(P<0.05).Compared with the H/R group,the numbers of apoptotic cells in the Q-H,Q-L,and NBP groups significantly decreased(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The presented study demonstrated that QNYZ exerted anti-apoptotic effects on H/R-induced CNCs,possibly through the modulation of the NogoA-NgR/Rho-ROCK signaling pathway and the promotion of synaptic plasticity in H/R CNCs. | QIN Xiude LIU Yu WU Haibin WU Yanqing WANG Shuo ZHU Jinqiang | 2021 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2021,41,1: | 4 |

| 10 | Efficient CO_(2) adsorption and mechanism on nitrogen-doped porous carbons显示文摘In this work,nitrogen-doped porous carbons(NACs)were fabricated as an adsorbent by urea modification and KOH activation.The CO_(2) adsorption mechanism for the NACs was then explored.The NACs are found to present a large specific surface area(1920.72-3078.99 m2·g^(-1))and high micropore percentage(61.60%-76.23%).Under a pressure of 1 bar,sample NAC-650-650 shows the highest CO_(2) adsorption capacity up to 5.96 and 3.92 mmol·g^(-1) at 0 and 25℃,respectively.In addition,the CO_(2)/N_(2) selectivity of NAC-650-650 is 79.93,much higher than the value of 49.77 obtained for the nonnitrogen-doped carbon AC-650-650.The CO_(2) adsorption capacity of the NAC-650-650 sample maintains over 97% after ten cycles.Analysis of the results show that the CO_(2) capacity of the NACs has a linear correlation(R^(2)=0.9633)with the cumulative pore volume for a pore size less than 1.02 nm.The presence of nitrogen and oxygen enhances the CO_(2)/N_(2) selectivity,and pyrrole-N and hydroxy groups contribute more to the CO_(2) adsorption.In situ Fourier transform infrared spectra analysis indicates that CO_(2) is adsorbed onto the NACs as a gas.Furthermore,the physical adsorption mechanism is confirmed by adsorption kinetic models and the isosteric heat,and it is found to be controlled by CO_(2) diffusion.The CO_(2) adsorption kinetics for NACs at room temperature and in pure CO_(2) is in accordance with the pseudo-first-order model and Avramís fractional-order kinetic model. | Yanxia Wang Xiude Hu Tuo Guo Jian Hao Chongdian Si Qingjie Guo | 2021 | Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2021,15,3: | 1 |
| 11 | Chromosome-level genome assemblies of five Prunus species and genome-wide association studies for key agronomic traits in peach显示文摘Prunus species include many important perennial fruit crops,such as peach,plum,apricot,and related wild species.Here,we report de novo genome assemblies for five species,including the cultivated species peach(Prunus persica),plum(Prunus salicina),and apricot(Prunus armeniaca),and the wild peach species Tibetan peach(Prunus mira)and Chinese wild peach(Prunus davidiana).The genomes ranged from 240 to 276 Mb in size,with contig N50 values of 2.27−8.30Mb and 25,333−27,826 protein-coding gene models.As the phylogenetic tree shows,plum diverged from its common ancestor with peach,wild peach species,and apricot~7 million years ago(MYA).We analyzed whole-genome resequencing data of 417 peach accessions,called 3,749,618 high-quality SNPs,577,154 small indels,31,800 deletions,duplications,and inversions,and 32,338 insertions,and performed a structural variant-based genome-wide association study(GWAS)of key agricultural traits.From our GWAS data,we identified a locus associated with a fruit shape corresponding to the OVATE transcription factor,where a large inversion event correlates with higher OVATE expression in flat-shaped accessions.Furthermore,a GWAS revealed a NAC transcription factor associated with fruit developmental timing that is linked to a tandem repeat variant and elevated NAC expression in early-ripening accessions.We also identified a locus encoding microRNA172d,where insertion of a transposable element into its promoter was found in double-flower accessions.Thus,our efforts have suggested roles for OVATE,a NAC transcription factor,and microRNA172d in fruit shape,fruit development period,and floral morphology,respectively,that can be connected to traits in other crops,thereby demonstrating the importance of parallel evolution in the diversification of several commercially important domesticated species.In general,these genomic resources will facilitate functional genomics,evolutionary research,and agronomic improvement of these five and other Prunus species.We believe that structural variant-based GWASs can also be used in other plants,animal species,and humans and be combined with deep sequencing GWASs to precisely identify candidate genes and genetic architecture components. | Qiuping Tan Sen Li Yuzheng Zhang Min Chen Binbin Wen Shan Jiang Xiude Chen Xiling Fu Dongmei Li Hongyu Wu Yong Wang Wei Xiao Ling Li | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Mechanism analysis and simulation of methyl methacrylate production coupled chemical looping gasification system显示文摘Nowadays,the efficient and cleaner utilization of coal have attracted wide attention due to the rich coal and rare oil/gas resources structure in China.Coal chemical looping gasification(CCLG)is a promising coal utilization technology to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction targets for highly pure synthesis gas.As a downstream product of synthesis gas,methyl methacrylate(MMA),is widely used as raw material for synthesizing polymethyl methacrylate and resin products with excellent properties.So this paper proposes a novel system integrating MMA production and CCLG(CCLG-MMA)processes aiming at'energy saving and low emission',in which the synthesis gas produced by CCLG and purified by dry methane reforming(DMR)reaction and Rectisol process reacts with ethylene for synthesizing MMA.Firstly,the reaction mechanism of CCLG is investigated by using Reactive force field(ReaxFF)MD simulation based on atomic models of char and oxygen carrier(Fe_(2)O_(3))for obtaining optimum reaction temperature of fuel reactor(FR).Secondly,the steady-state simulation of CCLG-MMA system is carried out to verify the feasibility of MMA production.The amount of CO_(2)emitted by CCLG process and DMR reaction is 0.0028(kg CO_(2))^(-1)·(kg MMA)^(-1).The total energy consumption of the CCLG-MMA system is 45521 kJ·(kg MMA)^(-1),among which the consumption of MMA production part is 25293 k(·kg MMA)^(-1).The results show that the CCLG-MMA system meets CO_(2)emission standard and has lower energy consumption compared to conventional MMA production process.Finally,one control scheme is designed to verify the stability of CCLG-MMA system.The CCLG-MMA integration strategy aims to obtain highly pure MMA from multi-scale simulation perspectives,so this is an optimal design regarding all factors influencing cleaner MMA production. | Wende Tian Haoran Zhang Zhe Cui Xiude Hu | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,9: | 0 |

| 19 | Simulation study on the gasification process of Ningdong coal with iron-based oxygen carrier显示文摘Chemical looping gasification(CLG) of Ningdong coal by using Fe_(2) O_(3) as the oxygen carriers(OCs) was studied,and the gasification characteristics were obtained.A computation fluid dynamics(CFD) model based on Eulerian--Lagrangian multiphase framework was established,and a numerical simulation the coal chemical looping gasification processes in fuel reactor(FR) was investigated.In addition,the heterogeneous reactions,homogeneous reactions and Fe_(2) O_(3) oxygen carriers' reduction reactions were considered in the gasification process.The characteristics of gas flow and gasification in the FR were analyzed and it was found that the experiment results were consistent with the simulation values.The results show that when the O/C mole rate was 0.5:1,the gasification temperature was 900℃ and the water vapor volume flow rate was 2.2 ml·min^(-1),the mole fraction of syngas reached a maximum value of the experimental result and simulation value were 71.5% and 70.2%,respectively.When the O/C mole rate was 0.5:1,the gasification temperature was 900℃,and the water vapor volume flow was 1.8 ml·min^(-1);the gasification efficiency reached the maximum value was 62.2%,and the maximum carbon conversion rate was 84.0%. | Fei Xie Mei An Ping Li Xiude Hu Hongcun Bai Qingjie Guo | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,1: | 0 |
