| 3 | Assessing the Ecological Quality of Nanjing during Its Urbanization Process by Using Satellite,Meteorological,and Socioeconomic Data显示文摘Assessing the ecological status of different districts within a city undergoing urbanization is challenging given their complex surface types and fast pace of development.In this study,we utilized satellite data obtained from Landsat5/TM(Thematic Mapper)and Landsat 8/OLI(Operational Land Imager)images in conjunction with meteorological and socioeconomic data to construct a remote sensing ecological index(RSEI)for monitoring the ecological quality of Nanjing,Jiangsu Province.A higher RSEI value corresponded to better ecological quality.Five ratings were associated with RSEI values of city districts:very poor,poor,average,good,and excellent.In Nanjing,the percentage of areas evidencing good RSEI ratings decreased from 55.9%in 2000 to 48.0%in 2018,whereas there was a slight increase in areas with very poor RSEI ratings during this period.Of the 11 city districts,16.8%,21.8%,and 61.4%respectively evidenced the increasing,decreasing,and stable ecological quality relative to their quality in 2000.Of the11 administrative districts in Nanjing,the main urban districts evidenced increased RSEI values in 2018 compared with those in 2000,with the improved areas exceeding the ones that had deteriorated in these districts.However,the ecological quality of new urban and ed because of the urban expansion,with areas that had deteriorated exceeding the improved ones.Of the three protected ecological zones,the quality of Zijin Mountain National Forest Park was considerably better than that of Laoshan and Jiangxinzhou.Overall,the urbanization rate and RSEI evidenced a high negative correlation coefficient value(-0.76).The urbanization process of Nanjing induced a declining trend for the ecological quality,indicating the need of strong protection measures for the maintenance or improvement of its ecological environment. | Xin HANG Yachun LI Xiaochun LUO Min XU Xiuzhen HAN | 2020 | Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,2: | 10 |
| 4 | Variance components and correlations of female fertility traits in Chinese Holstein population显示文摘Background: The objective of the present study was to estimate(co)variance components of female fertility traits in Chinese Holsteins, considering fertility traits in different parities as different traits. Data on 88,647 females with 215,632 records(parities) were collected during 2000 to 2014 from 32 herds in the Sanyuan Lvhe Dairy Cattle Center, Beijing, China. The analyzed female fertility traits included interval from calving to first insemination, interval from first to last insemination, days open, conception rate at first insemination, number of inseminations per conception and non-return rates within 56 days after first insemination.Results: The descriptive statistics showed that the average fertility of heifers was superior to that of cows. Moreover,the genetic correlations between the performances of a trait in heifers and in cows were all moderate to high but far from one, which suggested that the performances of a trait in heifers and cows should be considered as different but genetically correlated traits in genetic evaluations. On the other hand, genetic correlations between performances of a trait in different parities of cows were greater than 0.87, with only a few exceptions, but variances were not homogeneous across parities for some traits. The estimated heritabilities of female fertility traits were low; all were below 0.049(except for interval from calving to first insemination). Additionally, the heritabilities of the heifer interval traits were lower than those of the corresponding cow interval traits. Moreover, the heritabilities of the interval traits were higher than those of the threshold traits when measuring similar fertility functions. In general, estimated genetic correlations between traits were highly consistent with the biological categories of the female fertility traits.Conclusions: Interval from calving to first insemination, interval from first to last insemination and non-return rates within 56 days after first insemination are recommended to be included in the selection index of the Chinese Holstein population. | 5 | Novel SNPs in IL-17F and IL-17A genes associated with somatic cell count in Chinese Holstein and Inner-Mongolia Sanhe cattle显示文摘Background: Bovine mastitis is the most common and costly disease of lactating cattle worldwide. Apart from milk somatic cell count(SCC) and somatic cell score(SCS), serum cytokines such as interleukin-17(IL-17) and interleukin-4(IL-4) may also be potential indicators for bovine mastitis. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in bovine IL-17 F and IL-17 A genes on SCC, SCS and serum cytokines in Chinese Holstein and Inner-Mongolia Sanhe cattle, and to compare the m RNA expression variations of the cows with different genotypes.Results: A total of 464 lactating cows(337 Holstein and 127 Inner-Mongolia Sanhe cattle) were screened for SNPs identification and the data were analyzed using fixed effects of herd, parity, season and year of calving by general linear model procedure. The results revealed that SNP g.24392436 C > T in IL-17 F and SNP g.24345410 A > G in IL-17 A showed significant effects on SCC and IL-4 in Holstein(n = 337) and on IL-17 and IL-4 in Sanhe cattle(n = 127). | 7 | A novel method for rapid and reliable detection of complex vertebral malformation and bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency in Holstein cattle显示文摘Background: Complex vertebral malformation (CVM) and bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency (BLAD) are two autosomal recessive lethal genetic defects frequently occurring in Holstein cattle, identifiable by single nucleotide polymorphisms. The objective of this study is to develop a rapid and reliable genotyping assay to screen the active Holstein sires and determine the carrier frequency of CVM and BLAD in Chinese dairy cattle population. Results: We developed real-time PCR-based assays for discrimination of wild-type and defective alleles, so that carriers can be detected. Only one step was required after the DNA extraction from the sample and time consumption was about 2 hours. A total of 587 Chinese Holstein bulls were assayed, and fifty-six CVM-carriers and eight BLAD-carriers were identified, corresponding to heterozygote carrier frequencies of 9.54% and 1.36%, respectively. The pedigree analysis showed that most of the carriers could be traced back to the common ancestry, Osborndale Ivanhoe for BLAD and Pennstate Ivanhoe Star for CVM. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that real-time PCR is a simple, rapid and reliable assay for BLAD and CVM defective allele detection. | 10 | Identification of novel molecular markers of mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus using gene expression profiling in two consecutive generations of Chinese Holstein dairy cattle显示文摘Background: Mastitis in dairy cows caused by Staphylococcus aureus is a major problem hindering economic growth in dairy farms worldwide. It is difficult to prevent or eliminate due to its asymptomatic nature and long persistence of infection. Although transcriptomic responses of bovine mammary gland cells to pathogens that cause mastitis have been studied, the common responses of peripheral blood leukocytes to S. aureus infection across two consecutive generations of dairy cattle have not been investigated.Methods: In the current study, RNA-Seq was used to profile the transcriptomes of peripheral blood leukocytes sampled from S. aureus-infected mothers and their S. aureus-infected daughters, and also healthy non-infected mothers and their healthy daughters. Differential gene expression was evaluated as follows: 1) S. aureus-infected cows versus healthy non-infected cows(S vs. H, which include all the mothers and daughters), 2) S. aureus-infected mothers versus healthy non-infected mothers(SM vs. HM), and 3) S. aureus-infected daughters versus healthy noninfected daughters(SMD vs. HMD).Results: Analysis of all identified expressed genes in the four groups(SM, SMD, HM, and HMD) showed that EPOR,IL9, IFNL3, CCL26, IL26 were exclusively expressed in both the HM and HMD groups, and that they were significantly(P < 0.05) enriched for the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway. A total of 17, 13 and 10 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)(FDR Padj. < 0.1 and |FC| > 1.2) were detected in the three comparisons, respectively. DEGs with P < 0.05 and |FC| > 2 were used for functional enrichment analyses. For the S vs. H comparison, DEGs detected included CCL20, IL13 and MMP3, which are associated with the IL-17 signaling pathway. In the SM vs. HM and SMD vs. HMD comparisons, five(BLA-DQB, C1 R, C2, FCGR1 A, and KRT10) and six(BLA-DQB, C3 AR1, CFI, FCAR, FCGR3 A, and LOC10498484) genes, respectively, were involved in the S. aureus infection pathway.Conclusions: Our study provides insights into the transcriptomic responses of bovine peripheral blood leukocytes across two generations of cattle naturally infected with S. aureus. | 11 | Simulation study on the efficiencies of MOET nucleus breeding schemes applying marker assisted selection in dairy cattle显示文摘Advantages of breeding schemes using genetic marker information and/or multiple ovulation and embryo transfer(MOET) technology over the traditional approach were extensively evaluated through simulation.Milk yield was the trait of interest and QTL was the genetic marker utilized.Eight dairy cattle breeding scenarios were considered,i.e.,traditional progeny testing breeding scheme(denoted as STANPT),GASPT scheme including a pre-selection of young bulls entering progeny testing based on their own QTL information,MOETPT scheme using MOET technology to generate young bulls and a selection of young bulls limited within the full-sib family,GAMOPT scheme adopting both QTL pre-selection and MOET technology,COMBPT scheme using a mixed linear model which considered QTL genotype instead of the BLUP model in GAMOPT,and three non-progeny testing schemes,i.e.the MOET,GAMO and COMB schemes,corresponding to MOETPT,GAMOPT and COMBPT with progeny testing being part of the system.Animals were selected based on their breeding value which was estimated under an animal model framework.Sequential selection over 17 years was performed in the simulations and 30 replicates were designed for each scenario.The influences of using QTL information and MOET technology on favorable QTL allele frequency,true breeding values,polygenetic breeding values and the accumulated genetic superiority were extensively evaluated,for five different populations including active sires,lactating cows,bull dams,bull sires,and young bulls.The results showed that the combined schemes significantly outperformed other approaches wherein accumulated true breeding value progressed.The difference between schemes exclusively using QTL information or MOET technology was not significant.The STANPT scheme was the least efficient among the 8 schemes.The schemes using MOET technology had a higher polygenetic response than others in the 17th year.The increases of frequency of the favorable QTL allele varied more greatly across the 3 male groups than in the lactating cows group.The accumulated genetic superiorities of the GASPT scheme,MOETPT scheme,GAMOPT scheme,COMBPT scheme,MOET scheme,GAMO scheme and COMB scheme over the STANPT scheme were 8.42%,3.59%,14.58%,18.54%,4.12%,14.12%,16.50% in active sires and 2.70%,5.00%,11.05%,12.78%,7.51%,17.12%,25.38% in lactating cows. | LUO WeiZhen,WANG YaChun & ZHANG Yuan Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding,College of Animal Science and Technology,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100094,China | 2009 | Science China(Life Sciences)2009,52,3: | 2 |

| 19 | Genomic and transcriptomic analyses enable the identification of important genes associated with subcutaneous fat deposition in Holstein cows显示文摘Subcutaneous fat deposition has many important roles in dairy cattle,including immunological defense and mechanical protection.The main objectives of this study are to identify key candidate genes regulating subcutaneous fat deposition in high-producing dairy cows by integrating genomic and transcriptomic datasets.A total of 1654 genotyped Holstein cows are used to perform a genome-wide association study(GWAS)aiming to identify genes associated with subcutaneous fat deposition.Subsequently,weighted gene co-expression network analyses(WGCNA)are conducted based on RNA-sequencing data of 34 cows and cow yield deviations of subcutaneous fat deposition.Lastly,differentially expressed(DE)m RNA,lnc RNA,and differentially alternative splicing genes are obtained for 12 Holstein cows with extreme and divergent phenotypes for subcutaneous fat deposition.Forty-six protein-coding genes are identified as candidate genes regulating subcutaneous fat deposition in Holstein cattle based on GWAS.Eleven overlapping genes are identified based on the analyses of DE genes and WGCNA.Furthermore,the candidate genes identified based on GWAS,WGCNA,and analyses of DE genes are significantly enriched for pathways involved in metabolism,oxidative phosphorylation,thermogenesis,fatty acid degradation,and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis pathways.Integrating all findings,the NID2,STARD3,UFC1,DEDD,PPP1R1B,and USP21 genes are considered to be the most important candidate genes influencing subcutaneous fat deposition traits in Holstein cows.This study provides novel insights into the regulation mechanism underlying fat deposition in high-producing dairy cows,which will be useful when designing management and breeding strategies. | Hailiang Zhang Siyuan Mia Luiz F.Brito Lirong Hu Lei Wang Longgang Ma Qing Xu Gang Guo Ying Yu Yachun Wang | 2023 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2023,50,6: | 1 |
| 20 | Structural Networks Constraints on Alteration and Mineralization Processes in the Jiaojia Gold Deposit, Jiaodong Peninsula, China显示文摘Structural network studies could give appropriate opportunities to understanding structural/hydrothermal events,transportation of ore-forming fluids and water/rock interaction process.Four structural deformation/hydrothermal events have been identified in the Jiaojia fault zone according to microtexture and deformation of quartz and feldspars.Plagioclase experienced ductile deformation period with bended polysynthetic twin stripes(>450℃)in the early stage,followed by K-feldspar alteration period with ductile-brittle deformation and subgrain rotation recrystallization of quartz(380-450℃).Then,sericitization period occurred extensive ductile-brittle deformation(350-420℃)and extensive subgrain rotation recrystallization with a little bulging recrystallization in quartz.In the last,gold precipitation-related pyrite-sericite-quartz alteration was dominated by brittle deformation(300-380℃)and total bulging recrystallization of quartz.From the K-feldspar alteration zone and sericitization zone to pyrite-sericitequartz alteration zone,fractal dimension values of dynamically recrystallized quartz grains increase from 1.07 and 1.24 to 1.32,the calculated paleo strain rate values of dynamically recrystallized quartz range from 10^-10^.7(380℃)-10^-9.6(450℃)and 10^-9.3(350℃)-10^-8.2(420℃)to 10^-9.5(300℃)-10^-8.0(380℃),and the paleo differential stress values increase from 36.9 and 39.3,to 121.3 MPa.The increase of fractal dimension values and decrease of grain size from pyrite-sericite-quartz alteration zone and sericitization zone to K-feldspar alteration zone decreased average water/rock ratio values,which could lead to different acidity and redox conditions of ore-forming fluids and mineralization differences.Two kinds of orecontrolling fractures have been distinguished which include the gentle dip types(18°-50°)with NW(315°-355°)and SW(180°-235°)dip hosting No.Ⅰorebodies and the steep dip types(74°-90°)with NE(45°-85°)and SE(95°-165°)dip hosting No.Ⅲorebodies.These faults/fractures crosscut altered Linglong granite of footwall of the Jiaojia fault zone as rhombohedrons that promoted the connection between fractures in the K-feldspar alteration zone and fluid flow passages near the main fault face.Research results indicate No.Ⅰand No.Ⅲorebodies should be derived from the same mineralization event and belong to different orebody types in different mineralization sites under the same structural networks. | Huanlong Hu Shuangliang Liu Hong-Rui Fan Kuifeng Yang Yabin Zuo Yachun Cai | 2020 | Journal of Earth Science2020,31,3: | 1 |
