| 4 | Ultrafast hydrogen bond dynamics of liquid water revealed by terahertz-induced transient birefringence显示文摘The fundamental properties of water molecules,such as their molecular polarizability,have not yet been clarified.The hydrogen bond network is generally considered to play an important role in the thermodynamic properties of water.The terahertz(THz)Kerr effect technique,as a novel tool,is expected to be useful in exploring the low-frequency molecular dynamics of liquid water.Here,we use an intense and ultrabroadband THz pulse(peak electric field strength of 14.9 MV/cm,centre frequency of 3.9 THz,and bandwidth of 1–10 THz)to resonantly excite intermolecular modes of liquid water.Bipolar THz field-induced transient birefringence signals are observed in a free-flowing water film.We propose a hydrogen bond harmonic oscillator model associated with the dielectric susceptibility and combine it with the Lorentz dynamic equation to investigate the intermolecular structure and dynamics of liquid water.We mainly decompose the bipolar signals into a positive signal caused by hydrogen bond stretching vibration and a negative signal caused by hydrogen bond bending vibration,indicating that the polarizability perturbation of water presents competing contributions under bending and stretching conditions.A Kerr coefficient equation related to the intermolecular modes of water is established.The ultrafast intermolecular hydrogen bond dynamics of water revealed by an ultrabroadband THz pump pulse can provide further insights into the transient structure of liquid water corresponding to the pertinent modes. | Hang Zhao Yong Tan Liangliang Zhang Rui Zhang Mostafa Shalaby Cunlin Zhang Yuejin Zhao Xi-Cheng Zhang | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 10 |

| 6 | IL-33 induces immunosuppressive neutrophils via a type 2 innate lymphoid cell/IL-13/STAT6 axis and protects the liver against injury in LCMV infection-induced viral hepatitis显示文摘Viral hepatitis is still a public health problem affecting several million people around the world.Neutrophils are polymorphonuclear cells that have a critical role in antibacterial infection.However,the role of neutrophils in viral infection is not fully understood.By using a mouse model of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection-induced viral hepatitis,we observed increased neutrophil recruitment in the liver accompanied by enhanced CD8+T-cell responses.Liver neutrophils expressed high levels of immunomodulatory cytokines,such as C-X-C chemokine ligand 2,arginase-1,inducible nitric oxide synthase and interleukin(IL)-10,demonstrating immunosuppressive properties.Depletion of neutrophils in vivo by a neutralizing antibody resulted in the exacerbation of liver injury and the promotion of T-cell responses at the immune contraction stage.IL-33 significantly induced neutrophil recruitment in the liver and attenuated liver injury by limiting effector T-cell accumulation.Mechanistically,we found that IL-33 promoted the expression of arginase-1 in neutrophils through the type 2 innate lymphoid cell(ILC2)-derived IL-13.Additionally,IL-13 increased the inhibitory effect of neutrophils on CD8+T-cell proliferation in vitro,partially through arginase-1.Finally,we found that IL-13 induced arginase-1 expression,depending on signal transducer and activator of transcription factor 6(STAT6)signaling.Therefore,IL-33 induced immunosuppressive neutrophils via an ILC2/IL-13/STAT6 axis.Collectively,our findings shed new light on the mechanisms associated with IL-33-triggered neutrophils in the liver and suggest potential targets for therapeutic investigation in viral hepatitis. | Yuejin Liang Panpan Yi Denley Ming Kee Yuan Zuliang Jie Zakari Kwota Lynn Soong Yingzi Cong Jiaren Sun | 2019 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,2: | 7 |

| 8 | Cooperation of PprI and DrRRA in response to extreme ionizing radiation in Deinococcus radiodurans显示文摘Deinococcus radiodurans possesses extreme resistance to ionizing radiation,and has been engineered for the remediation of toxic components in radioactive environments.We have previously shown that PprI(also named IrrE)and DrRRA are essential for the DNA protection and repair pathways that respond to ionizing radiation stress in this species.Here,we investigated the combined roles of PprI and DrRRA in resistance to gamma radiation(800 Gy).The double mutant,△drRRA△pprI,was more sensitive to gamma rays than either△drRRA or△pprI single mutants,and exhibited an elevated level of intracellular protein carbonylation,an extended delay in genome reconstitution and reduced transcriptional levels of certain DNA protection and repair proteins,such as kat,sod,recA and pprA.Interestingly,the induction of DrRRA by ionizing radiation was partially inhibited by the deletion of pprI. | 9 | Rice productivity and profitability with slow-release urea containing organic-inorganic matrix materials显示文摘Applying slow-release fertilizers is possible means for reducing nitrogen(N) loss in rice production. Matrix-based fertilizers represent novel slow-release fertilizers. To date, there is little consensus about the effect of combined addition of organic and inorganic matrix materials on rice production. We developed a slow-release urea fertilizer with selected organic and inorganic matrix materials. The study aimed to: i) determine the effect of the slow-release urea on rice yield, profit, and agronomic efficiency and ii) elucidate its possible mechanisms. A two-year field experiment was conducted during 2015–2016. Besides,laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the potential N loss risk. Three treatments were set up: control without N application(CK), regular urea treatment(RU, 150 kg N ha^(-1)), and slow-release urea treatment(SU, 150 kg N ha^(-1)). The results showed that rice biomass and grain yield were significantly higher in SU than in RU(P < 0.05). The higher panicle density in SU was largely responsible for the greater grain yield. Net profit in SU was US$450 ha^(-1), higher than in RU. Agronomic efficiency was significantly greater in SU than in RU(P < 0.05). Rice height, root area, leaf chlorophyll, leaf nitrate reductase activity, and leaf glutamine synthetase activity were larger in SU than in RU. Less N loss and greater soil N availability were partly responsible for the improvements in rice growth traits and physiological parameters in SU. | 10 | High temperature SMES for improving power system stabilities显示文摘Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system has been proven very effective to improve power system stabilities. It is realized with superconductivity technology, power electronics and control theory. In order to promote the applica-tion of such kind control device and to further investigate the properties of the controller, a detail mathematic model of such control device is developed. Based on the developed model, extensive analysis including time domain simulation is carried out to investigate the characteristic of the SMES to compensate the unba- lanced dynamic active and reactive power of AC power system. The capability of SMES to increase power system transient and small signal perturbation stabilities are analyzed. A prototype SMES is developed, in which the conduction cooling and the high temperature superconductive techniques are used. The performance of the prototype is experimentally investigated in a laboratory environment. Very en-couraging results are obtained. | 11 | Safety analysis of building foundations over old goaf under additional stress from building load and seismic actions显示文摘Additional displacement of the building foundations over old goaf are prone to happen under the additional loads induced by new buildings, weakening-rock mass by mining and seismic actions, which will cause serious damage to the buildings. In order to analyze the safety of the building foundations safety over the old goaf, the structure characteristics of the strata over the old goaf was investigated and the instability conditions of overhanging rocks upon old goaf were also analyzed in this paper. The results indicate that the stability of overhanging rocks is remarkably decreased by the interactions of mining fractures, earthquake force and building load, in addition, the settlement of the foundations over old goaf is increased by the instability of overhanging rocks. According to the location of a new power plant in Yima Mine and its ambient conditions, we defined the influence scope of old goaf via resistivity tomography. Based on the seismic parameters of the construction site, a numerical FLAC3 dmodel of the building foundation under the seismic actions and building load was developed. | 15 | CRISPR/Cas9-mediated mutagenesis of VvMLO3 results in enhanced resistance to powdery mildew in grapevine(Vitis vinifera)显示文摘Grapevine(Vitis vinifera),one of the most economically important fruit crops in the world,suffers significant yield losses from powdery mildew,a major fungal disease caused by Erysiphe necator.In addition to suppressing host immunity,phytopathogens modulate host proteins termed susceptibility(S)factors to promote their proliferation in plants.In this study,CRISPR/Cas9(clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated 9)technology was used to enable the targeted mutagenesis of MLO(mildew resistance Locus O)family genes that are thought to serve as S factors for powdery mildew fungi.Small deletions or insertions were induced in one or both alleles of two grapevine MLO genes,VvMLO3 and VvMLO4,in the transgenic plantlets of the powdery mildew-susceptible cultivar Thompson Seedless.The editing efficiency achieved with different CRISPR/Cas9 constructs varied from 0 to 38.5%.Among the 20 VvMLO3/4-edited lines obtained,one was homozygous for a single mutation,three harbored biallelic mutations,seven were heterozygous for the mutations,and nine were chimeric,as indicated by the presence of more than two mutated alleles in each line.Six of the 20 VvMLO3/4-edited grapevine lines showed normal growth,while the remaining lines exhibited senescence-like chlorosis and necrosis.Importantly,four VvMLO3-edited lines showed enhanced resistance to powdery mildew,which was associated with host cell death,cell wall apposition(CWA)and H2O2 accumulation.Taken together,our results demonstrate that CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing technology can be successfully used to induce targeted mutations in genes of interest to improve traits of economic importance,such as disease resistance in grapevines. | Dong-Yan Wan Ye Guo Yuan Cheng Yang Hu Shunyuan Xiao Yuejin Wang Ying-Qiang Wen | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 4 |

| 18 | RadA:A protein involved in DNA damage repair processes of Deinococcus radiodurans R1显示文摘RadA is highly conserved in bacteria and belongs to the RecA/RadA/Rad51 protein su-perfamily found in bacteria,archaea and eukarya. In Archaea,it plays a critical role in homologous re-combination process due to its RecA-like function. In Escherichia coli,it takes part in conjugational recom-bination and DNA repair but is not as important as that of archaea. Using PSI-BLAST searches,we found that Deinococcus radiodurans RadA had a higher similarity to that of bacteria than archaea and eukarya. Disruption of radA gene in D. radiodurans resulted in a modestly decreased resistance to gamma radiation and ultraviolet,but had no effect on the resistance to hydrogen peroxide. Complementa-tion of the radA disruptant by both E. coli radA and D. radiodurans radA could fully restore its resistance to gamma radiation and ultraviolet irradiation. Further domain function analyses of D. radiodurans RadA showed that the absence of the zinc finger domain resulted in a slightly more sensitive phenotype to gamma and UV radiation than that of the radA mutant,while the absence of the Lon protease domain exhib-ited a slightly increased resistance to gamma and UV radiation. | 19 | VlbZIP30 of grapevine functions in dehydration tolerance via the abscisic acid core signaling pathway显示文摘Drought stress limits the growth and development of grapevines,thereby reducing productivity,but the mechanisms by which grapevines respond to drought stress remain largely uncharacterized.Here,we characterized a group A bZIP gene from“Kyoho”grapevine,VlbZIP30,which was shown to be induced by abscisic acid(ABA)and dehydration stress.Overexpression of VlbZIP30 in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana enhanced dehydration tolerance.Transcriptome analysis revealed that a major proportion of ABA-responsive and/or drought-responsive genes are transcriptionally regulated by VlbZIP30 during ABA or mannitol treatment at the cotyledon greening stage.We identified an A.thaliana G-box motif(CACGTG)and a potential grapevine G-box motif(MCACGTGK)in the promoters of the 39 selected A.thaliana genes upregulated in the transgenic plants and in the 35 grapevine homologs,respectively.Subsequently,using two grapevine-related databases,we found that 74%(23/31)and 84%(21/25)of the detected grapevine genes were significantly upregulated by ABA and drought stress,respectively,suggesting that these genes are involved in ABA or dehydration stress and may be regulated by VlbZIP30 in grapevine.We propose that VlbZIP30 functions as a positive regulator of dehydration-responsive signaling in the ABA core signaling pathway. | Mingxing Tu Xianhang Wang Yanxun Zhu Dejun Wang Xuechuan Zhang Ye Cui Yajuan Li Min Gao Zhi Li Yuejin Wang Xiping Wang | 2018 | Horticulture Research2018,5,1: | 2 |
