| 1 | Heat-sensitive moxibustion for lumbar disc herniation:a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the efficacy and safety of heat-sensitive moxibustion in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation(LDH).METHODS:Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) involving heat-sensitive moxibustion in the treatment of LDH were retrieved from the Chinese Biological Medical Literature database(1978-20011),Weipu database(1989-2011),Wanfang digital journal(1998-2011),China National Knowledge Internet(1979-2011),PubMed(1966-2011),EMBASE(1980-2011),and Cochrane Library(Issue 1,2011).Hand-search of the relevant journals from the Library of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was also adopted for the collection of data.Data were extracted and evaluated by two reviewers independently with a specially designed extraction form.The Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.0.20 software was used for data analyses.RESULTS:A total of 6 trials involving 580 patients were included.Meta-analysis showed that the total effectiveness rate in the heat-sensitive moxibustion group was significantly different when compared with conventional moxibustion [RR=1.19,95% CI [1.06,1.33)] and diclofenac sodium [RR=1.47,95% CI [1.17,1.85)],but similar to that of acupuncture.The cure rate in the heat-sensitive moxibustion group was significantly different when compared with conventional moxibustion [RR=1.58,95% CI(1.04,2.40)] and diclofenac sodium [RR=1.91,95% CI(1.01,3.60)],but similar with that of acupuncture.In terms of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores,significant differences were noted in subjective indices,objective indices,and daily life subscales.Two trials reported that there were no adverse events over the duration of treatment.CONCLUSION:Compared with conventional moxibustion,acupuncture,and diclofenac sodium,heat-sensitive moxibustion in the treatment of LDH is superior in efficacy.Further large-scale trials are required to define the role of heat-sensitive moxibustion in the treatment of this disease. | Rixin Chen Jun Xiong Zhenhai Chi Bo Zhang | 2012 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2012,32,3: | 33 |

| 3 | Blocking FSH inhibits hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis and reduces serum cholesterol显示文摘Menopause is associated with dyslipidemia and an increased risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease.The classic view assumes that the underlying mechanism of dyslipidemia is attributed to an insufficiency of estrogen.In addition to a decrease in estrogen, circulating follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)levels become elevated at menopause.In this study,we find that blocking FSH reduces serum cholesterol via inhibiting hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis.First,epidemiological results show that the serum FSH levels are positively correlated with the serum total cholesterol levels,even after adjustment by considering the effects of serum estrogen,in addition,the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is significantly higher in peri-menopausal women than that in premenopausal women.Furthermore,we generated a mouse model of FSH elevation by intraperitoneally injecting exogenous FSH into ovariectomized (OVX)mice,in which a normal level of estrogen (E2)was maintained by exogenous supplementation. Consistently,the results indicate that FSH,independent of estrogen,increases the serum cholesterol level in this mouse model. | 5 | Prognostic value of preoperative prognostic nutritional index and its associations with systemic inflammatory response markers in patients with stage Ⅲ colon cancer显示文摘Background: The prognostic nutritional index(PNI) has been widely applied for predicting survival outcomes of patients with various malignant tumors. Although a low PNI predicts poor prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer after tumor resection, the prognostic value remains unknown in patients with stage Ⅲ colon cancer undergoing curative tumor resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of PNI in patients with stage III colon cancer.Methods: Medical records of 274 consecutive patients with stage Ⅲ colon cancer undergoing curative tumor resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and capecitabine between December 2007 and December2013 were reviewed. The optimal PNI cutoff value was determined using receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis. The associations of PNI with systemic inflammatory response markers, including lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio(LMR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR), and C-reactive protein(CRP)level, and clinicopathologic characteristics were assessed using the Chi square or Fisher's exact test. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman's correlation coefficient. Disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS)stratified by PNI were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test, and prognostic factors were identified by Cox regression analyses.Results: The preoperative PNI was positively correlated with LMR(r= 0.483, P < 0.001) and negatively correlated with NLR(r =-0.441, P < 0.001), PLR(r =-0.607, P < 0.001), and CRP level(r =-0.333, P < 0.001). A low PNI(≤49.22)was significantly associated with short OS and DFS in patients with stage ⅢC colon cancer but not in patients with stage ⅢA/ⅢB colon cancer.In addition, patients with a low PNI achieved a longer OS and DFS after being treated with6-8 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy than did those with < 6 cycles. | 6 | Effectiveness and safety of heat-sensitive moxibustion on bronchial asthma:a Meta-analysis of randomized control trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of heat-sensitive moxibustion(HSM)onasthma.METHODS: Large databases in China and overseas were searched by electronic and manual means to collect information on randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Two evaluators independently extracted data and evaluated the quality of RCTs according to Cochrane Review Handbook v5.0. RevMan v5.0.20 was used for statisticalanalyses.RESULTS: Fourteen RCTs involving 637 patients were collected.Thirteen RCTs compared the effects of HSM and Western Medicine. After 3-month treatment and after 6-month follow-up, there was no significant difference in effective rate [relative risk(RR)=1.01, 95% CI(0.92, 1.12), and 1.12,(0.93, 1.36),respectively], in the asthma control test score of asthma symptoms [weighted mean difference(WMD)=﹣1.54, 95% CI(﹣3.54, 0.47), and 1.41,(﹣0.48, 3.29), respectively] and in the forced expiratory volumein 1 second(FEV1)and peak expiratory flow(PEF). One RCT compared the effect of HSM with warm-suspended moxibustion. After 6-month follow-up, there was a significant difference in FEV1 and PEF [WMD=0.51, 95% CI(0.10, 0.92), and 1.78,(1.06, 2.50), respectively]. After 3-month treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups. One RCT compared the effect of HSM with acupoint application. After 3-month treatment, there was no significant difference in the effectiverate[RR=0.68,95%CI(0.42,1.12)].CONCLUSION: HSM did not show superiority to conventional Western Medicine and acupoint application in terms of curative effects, and may be superior to warm-suspended moxibustion with regard to long-term curative effects. | 9 | Expression of voltage.gated sodium channel Nav1.5 in non.metastatic colon cancer and its associations with estrogen receptor(ER)-βexpression and clinical outcomes显示文摘Background: Voltage-gated sodium channel 1.5(Nav1.5) potentially promotes the migratory and invasive behaviors of colon cancer cells. Hitherto, the prognostic significance of Nav1.5 expression remains undetermined. The present study aimed to explore the associations of Nav1.5 expression with clinical outcomes and estrogen receptor-β(ER-β)expression in non-metastatic colon cancer patients receiving radical resection.Methods: A total of 269 consecutive patients with pathologically confirmed stages Ⅰ-Ⅲ colon cancer who underwent radical resection were selected. Nav1.5 and ER-β expression was detected by using immunohistochemistry(IHC)on tissue microarray constructed from paraffin-embedded specimens. IHC score was determined according to the percentage and intensity of positively stained cells. Statistical analysis was performed with the X-tile method, k coefficient, Chi square test or Fisher's exact test, logistic regression, log-rank test, and Cox proportional hazards models.Results: We found that Nav1.5 was commonly expressed in tumor tissues with higher mean IHC score as compared with matched tumor-adjacent normal tissues(5.1 ± 3.5 vs. 3.5 ± 2.7, P < 0.001).The high expression of Nav1.5 in colon cancer tissues was associated with high preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen level [odds ratio(OR) = 2.980;95% confidential interval(CI)1.163-7.632; P = 0.023] and high ER-β expression(OR = 2.808; 95% CI 1.243-6.343;p = 0.00 3). Log-rank test results showed that high Nav1.5 expression contributed to a low 5-year disease-free survival(DFS) rate in colon cancer patients(77.2% vs. 92.1%, P = 0.048), especially in patients with high ER-β expression tumor(76.2% vs. 91.3%, P = 0.032). | 10 | Variation analyses of growth and wood properties of Larix olgensis clones in China显示文摘The growth traits(tree height, diameter at breast height, and stem straightness degree) and wood properties[wood density(WD), fiber length, fiber width, ash content(AC), lignin content, cellulose content, hemicellulose content(HEC), and holocellulose content] of 208 26-yearold Larix olgensis clones were analyzed. Except for WD and AC, there were significant differences(p \ 0.01) for all traits among clones. The phenotypic coefficient of variation and repeatability of all traits were 9.34–35.33%and 0.218–0.930, respectively. Tree height and diameter at breast height showed significant positive correlation;however, the correlation coefficients among growth characteristics and wood properties were mostly not significant.Ten clones(L70, L56, L82, L90, L59, L91, L61, L92, L86,and L64) were selected as excellent clones under a selection rate of 5%, using tree height, diameter at breast height,and stem straightness degree as evaluation indexes, providing genetic gains of 28.69, 17.96, and 0.67%, respectively. Ten clones(L88, L305, L59, L66, L253, L304,L277, L298, L248, and L293) were selected as excellent clones using wood properties as an evaluation index, with a selection rate of 5%, providing genetic gains in WD, fiber length, fiber width, cellulose content, and HEC of 4.14,3.64, 9.28, 6.77, and 9.61%, respectively. | 13 | Low temperature preparation of flower-like BiOCl film and its photocatalytic activity显示文摘The BiOCl thin film with flower-like sphere structure was prepared at a low temperature by the alcoholysis-coating method using BiCl 3 as precursor. The obtained thin film was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electronic energy spectrum (EDS) and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). And the results showed that the obtained BiOCl film without calcination was composed of flower-like sphere structure with tetragonal phase and had a good absorption for ultraviolet. The photocatalytic activity of BiOCl thin film was also evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange in water under UV light irradiation. The degradation experimental results confirmed that the film prepared at low temperature possessed a high photocatalytic activity and could achieve 97% degradation to 10 mg/L methyl orange solution after 150 min UV light irradiation. The stability of the obtained BiOCl thin film was also good and its photocatalytic activity still remained an above 94% removal of methyl orange after being used four times. | 19 | Safety and efficacy of a modified XELOX adjuvant regimen for patients with operated stage III colon cancer:a Chinese single-center experience显示文摘Background:A fixed 8-cycle oxaliplatin and capecitabine(XELOX)regimen has been the standard adjuvant therapy for patients with stage III colon cancer.However,completing the full-cycle of oxaliplatin is often associated with severe neurotoxicity.To spare patients from the toxic effects,without comprising the required efficacy,we evaluated the safety and efficacy of a modified XELOX(mXELOX)adjuvant chemotherapy regimen with 6 cycles of oxaliplatin and a full cycle of capecitabine.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed 330 eligible patients with stage III colon cancer who underwent cura-tive tumor resection followed by mXELOX,standard XELOX or unfinished XELOX adjuvant chemotherapy between December 2007 and April 2015.Associated prognostic factors were investigated and their disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS)rates were also determined and compared among the different regimen groups.Results:Compared with the standard XELOX group,the mXELOX group had lower total incidence rates of neuro-toxicity(39.3%vs.76.2%,P<0.001),leucopenia(53.6%vs.69.8%,P=0.017)and thrombocytopenia(38.1%vs.56.3%,P=0.011).The standard XELOX and mXELOX adjuvant chemotherapy regimens presented with comparable 3-year DFS rates(86.3%vs.89.2%;P=0.838)and 3-year OS rates(92.7%vs.97.6%;P=0.227).Compared to unfinished XELOX chemotherapy,the oncologic benefits of the mXELOX regimen were greater for patients with T4 tumors(3-year DFS:Hazard ratio[HR],2.184;95%confidence interval[CI],1.051-4.540;P=0.036;3-year OS:HR,4.529;95%CI 1.245-16.479;P=0.022)and for high-risk patients(3-year DFS:HR,1.962;95%CI 0.964-3.993;P=0.044;3-year OS:HR,4.193;95%CI 1.182-14.874;P=0.026).Conclusions:The mXELOX adjuvant chemotherapy presented a comparable survival benefit and lower incidence of toxicity than standard XELOX chemotherapy.It could be an alternative treatment for high-risk patients with operated stage III colon cancer. | Jianhong Peng Weihao Li Rongxin Zhang Junzhong Lin Jinghua Tang Yongshan Wen Zhenhai Lu Xiaojun Wu Zhizhong Pan | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 2 |
