1Stent-grafts for the treatment of TIPS dysfunction:Fluency stent vs Wallgraft stent显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of an expanded polytetrafluoro-ethylene-covered Fluency stent compared with that of a polyethylene terephthalate-covered Wallgraft stent for the management of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)dysfunction.METHODS:A retrospective review of patients who underwent TIPS revision with stent-grafts between May 2007 and June 2011 was conducted.The patients were divided into two groups according to the stentgrafts implanted:the Fluency stent(Bard Incorporated,Karlsruhe,Germany)and the Wallgraft stent(Boston Scientific,Galway,Ireland).The primary patency rates were calculated and compared using the Kaplan-Meier method.RESULTS:A total of 73 patients were evaluated in this study:33 with Fluency stents and 40 with Wallgraft stents.The primary patency rates at 12 and 24 mo were 91% and 85%,respectively,in the Fluency stent group and 78% and 63%,respectively,in the Wallgraft stent group.The primary shunt patency rates after TIPS revision were significantly better with the Fluency stent than with the Wallgraft stent(P = 0.033).CONCLUSION:TIPS revision with the Fluency stent has higher medium-term patency rates than that with the Wallgraft stent.Xue-Feng Luo Ling Nie Zhu Wang Jiaywei Tsauo Ling-Jun Liu Yang Yu Biao Zhou Cheng-Wei Tang Xiao Li 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,30:9
2Efficacy of noninvasive evaluations in monitoring inflammatory bowel disease activity: a prospective study in China显示文摘AIM To optimize the efficacy of noninvasive evaluations in monitoring the endoscopic activity of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS Fecal calprotectin(FC), clinical activity index(CDAI or CAI), C-reactive protein(CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR), and procalcitonin(PCT) were measured for 136 IBD patients. Also, FC was measured in 25 irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) patients that served as controls. Then, endoscopic activity was determined by other two endoscopists for colonic or ileo-colonic Crohn's disease(CICD) with the 'simple endoscopic score for Crohn's disease'(SES-CD), CDrelated surgery patients with the Rutgeerts score, and ulcerative colitis(UC) with the Mayo score. The efficacies of these evaluations to predict the endoscopic disease activity were assessed by Mann-Whitney test, χ~2 test, Spearman's correlation, and multiple linear regression analysis.RESULTS The median FC levels in CD, UC, and IBS patients were 449.6(IQR, 137.9-1344.8), 497.9(IQR, 131.7-118.0), and 9.9(IQR, 0-49.7) μg/g, respectively(P < 0.001). For FC, CDAI or CAI, CRP, and ESR differed significantly between endoscopic active and remission in CICD and UC patients, but not in CD-related surgery patients. The SES-CD correlated closely with levels of FC(r = 0.802), followed by CDAI(r = 0.734), CRP(r = 0.658), and ESR(r = 0.557). The Mayo score also correlated significantly with FC(r = 0.837), CAI(r = 0.776), ESR(r = 0.644), and CRP(r = 0.634). For FC, a cut-off value of 250 μg/g indicated endoscopic active inflammation with accuracies of 87.5%, 60%, and 91.1%, respectively, for CICD, CD-related surgery, and UC patients. Moreover, clinical FC activity(CFA) calculated as 0.8 × FC + 4.6 × CDAI showed higher area under the curve(AUC) of 0.962 for CICD and CFA calculated as 0.2 × FC + 50 × CAI showed higher AUC(0.980) for UC patients than the FC. Also, the diagnostic accuracy of FC in identifying patients with mucosal inflammation in clinical remission was reflected by an AUC of 0.91 for CICD and 0.96 for UC patients. CONCLUSION FC is the most promising noninvasive evaluation for monitoring the endoscopic activity of CICD and UC. 7Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors of the liver misdiagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma:Three case reports显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms(PEComas)are rare.Diagnostic and treatment experience with hepatic PEComa remains insufficient.CASE SUMMARY Three hepatic PEComa cases are reported in this paper:One case of primary malignant hepatic PEComa,one case of benign hepatic PEComa,and one case of hepatic PEComa with an ovarian mature cystic teratoma.During preoperative imaging and pathological assessment of intraoperative frozen samples,patients were diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),while postoperative pathology and immunohistochemistry subsequently revealed hepatic PEComa.Patients with hepatic PEComa which is misdiagnosed as HCC often require a wider surgical resection.It is easy to mistake them for distant metastases of hepatic PEComa and misdiagnosed as HCC,especially when it’s combined with tumors in other organs.Three patients eventually underwent partial hepatectomy.After 1-4 years of follow-up,none of the patients experienced recurrence or metastases.CONCLUSION A clear preoperative diagnosis of hepatic PEComa can reduce the scope of resection and prevent unnecessary injuries during surgery.Yan-Qi Kou Yu-Ping Yang Wei-Xiang Ye Wei-Nan Yuan Shen-Shen Du Biao Nie 2023World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,2:1

11Phylogeography of Gyrodactylus konovalovi(Monogenoidea:Gyrodactylidae) in the Qinling Mountains in Central China显示文摘Gyrodactylus konovalovi is an ectoparasite on the Amur minnow(Rhynchocypris lagowskii)that is widely distributed in the cold fresh waters of East Asia.In the present study,the phylogeography of G.konovalovi and the distribution of its host in the Qinling Mountains are examined.A total of 102 parasite specimens was sequenced for the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit 1(cox1)gene,and 43 haplotypes were obtained.The ratio of substitution sites(dN/dS)was 0.016 and indicated strongly purifying selection.Haplotype diversity(h)and nucleotide diversity(π)of suprapopulations of G.konovalovi varied widely between distinct localities from the Qinling Mountains.Phylogenetic trees based on Bayesian inference(BI),maximum likelihood(ML)and maximum parsimony(MP)methods and network analysis revealed that all haplotypes were consistently well-supported in three different lineages A,B,and C,indicating a significant geographic distribution pattern.There was a significant positive correlation between genetic differentiation(Fst)and geographic distance(P<0.001).The results of mismatch distribution,neutrality test and Bayesian skyline plot analyses showed that lineages A and B underwent population expansion after the Last Glacier Maximum(LGM)during the Late Pleistocene,while the lineage C underwent population contraction during the Middle to Late Pleistocene.Based on the molecular clock calibration,the most common ancestor was estimated to have emerged in the Middle to Late Pleistocene.Our study suggests that a clearly phylogeography of G.konovalovi was shaped by climatic oscillation and geological events,such as orogenesis,drainage capture changes and vicariance,during the Pleistocene in the Qinling Mountains in central China.Tao Chen Xiaoning Chen Biao Wang Jianzhen Nie Ping You 2020Zoological Systematics2020,45,4:0
12Comprehensive Treatment Uncertainty Analysis and PTV Margin Estimation for Fiducial Tracking in Robotic Liver Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy显示文摘Objective This study aims to quantify the uncertainties of CyberKnife Synchrony fiducial tracking for liver stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT)cases,and evaluate the required planning target volume(PTV)margins.Methods A total of 11 liver tumor patients with a total of 57 fractions,who underwent SBRT with synchronous fiducial tracking,were enrolled for the present study.The correlation/prediction model error,geometric error,and beam targeting error were quantified to determine the patient-level and fraction-level individual composite treatment uncertainties.The composite uncertainties and multiple margin recipes were compared for scenarios with and without rotation correction during treatment.Results The correlation model error-related uncertainty was 4.3±1.8,1.4±0.5 and 1.8±0.7 mm in the superior-inferior(SI),left-right,and anterior-posterior directions,respectively.These were the primary contributors among all uncertainty sources.The geometric error significantly increased for treatments without rotation correction.The fraction-level composite uncertainties had a long tail distribution.Furthermore,the generally used 5-mm isotropic margin covered all uncertainties in the left-right and anterior-posterior directions,and only 75%of uncertainties in the SI direction.In order to cover 90%of uncertainties in the SI direction,an 8-mm margin would be needed.For scenarios without rotation correction,additional safety margins should be added,especially in the superior-inferior and anterior-posterior directions.Conclusion The present study revealed that the correlation model error contributes to most of the uncertainties in the results.Most patients/fractions can be covered by a 5-mm margin.Patients with large treatment uncertainties might need a patient-specific margin.Zhi-wen LIANG Meng-lan ZHAI Biao TU Xin NIE Xiao-hui ZHU Jun-ping CHENG Guo-quan LI Dan-dan YU Tao ZHANG Sheng ZHANG 2023Current Medical Science2023,43,3:0
13A high dynamic range pixel using lateral overflow integration capacitor and adaptive feedback structure in CMOS image sensors显示文摘This letter proposes a novel high dynamic range(HDR)pixel using lateral overflow integration capacitor(LOFIC)and adaptive feedback structure.Through detailed analysis of the voltage feedback mechanism,the conversion gain(CG),full well capacity(FWC)and dynamic range(DR)performances of the feedback LOFIC pixel are analytically expressed.The verification results reveal that the equivalent FWC of the feedback LOFIC pixel is 1.89 times of conventional LOFIC pixel,and the DR extension is 5.5 dB.Based on 110 nm CMOS process,a 5.0µm pixel layout is presented,using 13.3 fF capacitance to achieve 83 ke-FWC and 102.8 dB DR,which are 44 ke-and 97.3 dB of conventional LOFIC pixel under the same design conditions.This also demonstrates that the feedback LOFIC pixel can reduce the dependence of extended DR on capacitor area,and can be used as a reference for HDR pixels design.YANG Yuejin XU Jiangtao MA Biao CHEN Quanmin NIE Kaiming 2023Optoelectronics Letters2023,19,12:0
14A high-fidelity human cervical muscle finite element model for motion and injury studies显示文摘Active muscle response is a key factor in the motion and injury of the human head and neck.Due to the limitations of experimentation and the shortcomings of previous finite element models,the influence of material parameters of cervical muscle on motions of the head and neck during a car crash have not been comprehensively investigated.In the present work,a model of the cervical muscle in a 50th-percentile adult male was constructed.The muscles were modelled using solid finite elements,with a nonlinear-elastic and viscoelastic material and a Hill material modelling the passive and active parts of each muscle,respectively.The head dynamic responses of the model were validated using results obtained from volunteer sled tests.The influence of the material parameters of a muscle on head and neck motions were determined.Our key finding was that the greater the stiffness and the contraction strength of the neck muscles,the smaller the rotation angle of the head and the neck,and,hence,the lower the risk of head and neck injury to occupants in a car crash.Fan Li Honggeng Li Kang Lei Biao Zhang Sicheng Su Wei Hu Yingchun Cao Jin Nie 2021Transportation Safety and Environment2021,3,4:0
15Voxel-based analysis of brain microstructural diffusion indices changes in Parkinson disease with freezing of gait显示文摘To the Editor:Freezing of gait(FOG)is a common disabling movement disorder in Parkinson disease(PD),affecting approximately 50%to 80%of PD patients in their late state.FOG can cause the patients to fall easily,seriously affects their quality of life and exerts both economic and emotional burdens.Unlike the common motor symptoms of PD(such as bradykinesia,tremor,or rigidity),FOG is seldom improved by dopaminergic medication therapy or deep brain stimulation.Moreover,FOG may be resistant to(or even worsened by)levodopa.[1]However,cognitive training has showed it can reduce the severity of FOG.[2]These findings imply that FOG may be caused not only by motor impairment but also by cognitive impairment.It is reasonable to hypothesize that FOG+patients have impaired cognitive function and that the diffusion indices of the cerebral territories’microstructures associated with cognition are altered.To test this hypothesis,we applied whole-brain voxel-based analysis(VBA),a fully automated whole-brain analysis that uses voxel-wise statistics on diffusion metrics,to investigate the diffusion indices of brain microstructures changes in FOG+patients,PD patients without FOG(FOG-patients),and healthy controls(HCs).Jing-Wu Chen Fa-Ze Mai Yong-Zhe Yang Wan-Qun Yang Li-Juan Wang Kun Nie Biao Huang 2021Chinese Medical Journal2021,,2:0
16Kinetic and thermodynamic control of tetraphenylethene aggregation-induced emission behaviors显示文摘Many aggregation-induced emission(AIE)systems exhibit broad and structureless luminescence emission spectra resembling the Gaussian distribution,which is likely due to kinetically locked molecular conformers in the condensed phase.To verify the hypothesis,a series of tetraphenylethene(TPE)derivatives are synthesized and characterized as aqueous nanoparticle suspensions.It is found that the unsubstituted TPE exhibits reduced fluorescence intensity accompanied by a blueshift of the emission maximum,after the temperature of the aqueous suspension is elevated and cooled to room temperature again.For a naphthalimide-substituted TPE compound,thermal treatment of the AIE aqueous suspension results in complete,irreversible aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ)of fluorescence,which can be restored by a redissolving-precipitation process of thermally treated aggregates.The phenomenon is ascribed as a relative population shift of a kinetic AIE(k-AIE)state to a thermodynamic AIE(t-AIE)or ACQ state,evidenced by differential scanning calorimetry,dynamic light scattering,and scanning electron microscopy.The phenomenon may be universal for many other AIE systems and could be explored as stimuli-responsive materials.Xiancheng Nie Wenhuan Huang Dingcheng Zhou Tao Wang Xiao Wang Biao Chen Xuepeng Zhang Guoqing Zhang 2022Aggregate2022,3,4:0

18The long road to bloom in conifers显示文摘More than 600 species of conifers(phylum Pinophyta)serve as the backbone of the Earth’s terrestrial plant community and play key roles in global carbon and water cycles.Although coniferous forests account for a large fraction of global wood production,their productivity relies largely on the use of genetically improved seeds.However,acquisition of such seeds requires recurrent selection and testing of genetically superior parent trees,eventually followed by the establishment of a seed orchard to produce the improved seeds.The breeding cycle for obtaining the next generation of genetically improved seeds can be significantly lengthened when a target species has a long juvenile period.Therefore,development of methods for diminishing the juvenile phase is a cost-effective strategy for shortening breeding cycle in conifers.The molecular regulatory programs associated with the reproductive transition and annual reproductive cycle of conifers are modulated by environmental cues and endogenous developmental signals.Mounting evidence indicates that an increase in global average temperature seriously threatens plant productivity,but how conifers respond to the ever-changing natural environment has yet to be fully characterized.With the breakthrough of assembling and annotating the giant genome of conifers,identification of key components in the regulatory cascades that control the vegetative to reproductive transition is imminent.However,comparison of the signaling pathways that control the reproductive transition in conifers and the floral transition in Arabidopsis has revealed many differences.Therefore,a more complete understanding of the underlying regulatory mechanisms that control the conifer reproductive transition is of paramount importance.Here,we review our current understanding of the molecular basis for reproductive regulation,highlight recent discoveries,and review new approaches for molecular research on conifers.Jingjing Ma Xi Chen Fangxu Han Yitong Song Biao Zhou Yumeng Nie Yue Li Shihui Niu 2022Forestry Research2022,2,1:0
19Metagenomic analysis reveals oropharyngeal microbiota alterations in patients with COVID-19显示文摘COVID-19 remains a serious emerging global health problem,and little is known about the role of oropharynx commensal microbes in infection susceptibility and severity.Here,we present the oropharyngeal microbiota characteristics identified by shotgun metagenomic sequencing analyses of oropharynx swab specimens from 31 COVID-19 patients,29 influenza B patients,and 28 healthy controls.Our results revealed a distinct oropharyngeal microbiota composition in the COVID-19 patients,characterized by enrichment of opportunistic pathogens such as Veillonella and Megasphaera and depletion of Pseudopropionibacterium,Rothia,and Streptococcus.Based on the relative abundance of the oropharyngeal microbiome,we built a microbial classifier to distinguish COVID-19 patients from flu patients and healthy controls with an AUC of 0.889,in which Veillonella was identified as the most prominent biomarker for COVID-19 group.Several members of the genus Veillonella,especially Veillonella parvula which was highly enriched in the oropharynx of our COVID-19 patients,were also overrepresented in the BALF of COVID-19 patients,indicating that the oral cavity acts as a natural reservoir for pathogens to induce co-infections in the lungs of COVID-19 patients.We also found the increased ratios of Klebsiella sp.,Acinetobacter sp.,and Serratia sp.were correlated with both disease severity and elevated systemic inflammation markers(neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio,NLR),suggesting that these oropharynx microbiota alterations may impact COVID-19 severity by influencing the inflammatory response.Moreover,the oropharyngeal microbiome of COVID-19 patients exhibited a significant enrichment in amino acid metabolism and xenobiotic biodegradation and metabolism.In addition,all 26 drug classes of antimicrobial resistance genes were detected in the COVID-19 group,and were significantly enriched in critical cases.In conclusion,we found that oropharyngeal microbiota alterations and functional differences were associated with COVID-19 severity.Shengli Ma Fan Zhang Fengxia Zhou Hui Li Wenyu Ge Rui Gan Huan Nie Biao Li Yindong Wang Meng Wu Duo Li Dongmei Wang Zheng Wang Yuhong You Zhiwei Huang 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,6:0
20Remote sensing detection and verification of disappeared reservoirs along the Grand Canal of China显示文摘Digital Earth is an information-rich expression of the real Earth and is a new way of understanding the Earth in the twenty-first century.Archeology has found great potentialities in Digital Earth,strongly increasing its development and its interdisciplinary experimentations.With the rapid development of remote sensing,the importance of applying Earth observation technology to archeological research has caught a great amount of attention worldwide.The objective of this study is to apply Radarsat-1 and Landsat imagery,historical maps,and aerial photographs in the detection and verification of disappeared reservoirs built 500 years ago as part of the Grand Canal of China.The results of the study show that the potential sites present distinct variations in soil moisture,biomass,and biological vigor,characterized by weak backscattering in Radarsat imagery;high vegetation indices in Landsat imagery;and distinct anomalies in a Landsat principle components image.Historical maps and aerial photographs also verified the existence of the sites of disappeared reservoirs.Since the sites have so far not been extensively explored,the results should represent a significant contribution to the understanding of the Grand Canal of China and its auxiliary facilities.Biao Deng Yueping Nie Huadong Guo Changlin Wang Shenglin Lei Rong Li 2013International Journal of Digital Earth2013,6,3:0
