| 2 | Effects of a two-meal daily feeding pattern with varied crude protein levels on growth performance and antioxidant indexes in pigs显示文摘The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of daily feeding pattern on growth performance, blood biochemistry, and antioxidant indexes in pigs. One hundred and eighty female Duroc x Landrace x Yorkshire(DLY) pigs with similar body weight(11.00 ± 0.12 kg) were randomly assigned to 3 groups: the control group(fed 17.01% CP diet, twice daily); high-low group(H-L group, fed18.33% CP diet in the morning, followed by 15.70% CP diet in the afternoon); and low-high group(L-H group, fed 15.70% CP diet in the morning, followed by 18.33% CP diet in the afternoon)(n = 6). Comparable amounts of their respective diets were given at 05:30 and 15:00 throughout the experimental periods to make all the treatments consumed the same type of food and the same amount of calories on a daily basis. On day 30, one pig was randomly selected per litter for blood samples. Compared with the control group, ADG in the H-L and L-H groups increased by 8.11% and 16.23%, but not significant(P > 0.05); and blood urea nitrogen(BUN) in the H-L and L-H groups decreased by 26.76% and 41.04%(P < 0.05), respectively. The H-L group feeding pattern could significantly improve levels of serum superoxide dismutase(SOD), when compared with the control group. These findings suggest that the twomeal daily feeding pattern with varied levels of CP affects serum levels of BUN and SOD. | 4 | Diversity of metabolite accumulation patterns in inner and outer seed coats of pomegranate:exploring their relationship with genetic mechanisms of seed coat development显示文摘The expanded outer seed coat and the rigid inner seed coat of pomegranate seeds,both affect the sensory qualities of the fruit and its acceptability to consumers.Pomegranate seeds are also an appealing model for the study of seed coat differentiation and development.We conducted nontarget metabolic profiling to detect metabolites that contribute to the morphological differentiation of the seed coats along with transcriptomic profiling to unravel the genetic mechanisms underlying this process.Comparisons of metabolites in the lignin biosynthetic pathway accumulating in seed coat layers at different developmental stages revealed that monolignols,including coniferyl alcohol and sinapyl alcohol,greatly accumulated in inner seed coats and monolignol glucosides greatly accumulated in outer seed coats.Strong expression of genes involved in monolignol biosynthesis and transport might explain the spatial patterns of biosynthesis and accumulation of these metabolites.Hemicellulose constituents and flavonoids in particular accumulated in the inner seed coat,and candidate genes that might be involved in their accumulation were also identified.Genes encoding transcription factors regulating monolignol,cellulose,and hemicellulose metabolism were chosen by coexpression analysis.These results provide insights into metabolic factors influencing seed coat differentiation and a reference for studying seed coat developmental biology and pomegranate genetic improvement. | Gaihua Qin Chunyan Liu Jiyu Li Yongjie Qi Zhenghui Gao Xiaoling Zhang Xingkai Yi Haifa Pan Ray Ming Yiliu Xu | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 4 |
| 5 | Parametric design strategy of a novel cylindrical negative Poisson's ratio jounce bumper for ideal uniaxial compression load-displacement curve显示文摘A cylindrical negative Poisson's ratio(CNPR) structure based on two-dimensional double-arrow negative Poisson's ratio(NPR)structure was introduced in this paper. The CNPR structure has excellent stiffness, damping and energy absorption performances,and can be applied as spring, damper and energy absorbing components. In this study, the CNPR structure was used as a jounce bumper in vehicle suspension, and the load-displacement curve of NPR jounce bumper was discussed. Moreover, the influences of structural parameters and materials on the load-displacement curve of NPR jounce bumper were specifically researched. It came to the conclusion that only the numbers of cells and layers impact the hardening displacement of NPR jounce bumper. And all parameters significantly affect the structure stiffness at different displacement periods. On the other hand, the load-displacement curve of NPR jounce bumper should be in an ideal region which is difficult to be achieved applying mathematical optimization method. Therefore, a parametric design strategy of NPR jounce bumper was proposed according to the parametric analysis results. The design strategy had two main steps: design of hardening displacement and design of stiffness. | 6 | Biomedical polymers: synthesis, properties, and applications显示文摘Biomedical polymers have been extensively developed for promising applications in a lot of biomedical fields, such as therapeutic medicine delivery, disease detection and diagnosis, biosensing, regenerative medicine, and disease treatment. In this review, we summarize the most recent advances in the synthesis and application of biomedical polymers, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their property-function relationship for corresponding biomedical applications. In particular, a few burgeoning bioactive polymers, such as peptide/biomembrane/microorganism/cell-based biomedical polymers, are also introduced and highlighted as the emerging biomaterials for cancer precision therapy. Furthermore, the foreseeable challenges and outlook of the development of more efficient, healthier and safer biomedical polymers are discussed. | 9 | Crystal structure of histidine-containing phosphocarrier protein from Thermoanaerobacter tengcongensis MB4 and the implications for thermostability显示文摘Protein thermostability is an inherent characteristic of proteins from thermophilic microorganisms,and therefore enables these organisms to survive at extreme temperatures.Although it is well-known that thermostable proteins are critical for the growth of thermophilic organisms,the structural basis of protein thermostability is not yet fully understood.The histidine-containing phosphocarrier (HPr) protein,a phosphate shuttle protein in the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar transport system (PTS) of bacterial species,is an ideal model for investigating protein thermostability with respect to its small size and deficiency in disulphide bonds or cofactors.In this study,the HPr protein from Thermoanaerobacter tengcongensis (TtHPr) is cloned and purified.Crystal structure with good quality has been determined at 2.3 resolution,which provides a firm foundation for exploring the thermostable mechanism.However,it shows that the crystal structure is conserved and no clue can be obtained from this single structure.Furthermore,detailed comparison of sequence and structure with the homologs from mesoor thermophilic bacteria shows no obvious rule for thermostability,but the extra salt-bridge existing only in thermophilic bacteria might be a better explanation for thermostability of HPr.Thus,mutations are performed to interrupt the salt-bridge in HPrs in thermophilic bacteria.Using site-directed mutations and the circular dichroism method,thermostability is evaluated,and the mutational variations are shown to have a faster denaturing rate than for wild-type viruses,indicating that mutations cause instability in the HPrs.Understanding the higher-temperature resistance of thermophilic and hyperthermophilic proteins is essential to studies on protein folding and stability,and is critical in engineering efficient enzymes that can work at a high temperature. | FENG ChunYan GAO Feng LIU YiWei WANG GuiHua PENG Hao MA YanHe YAN JingHua GAO George Fu | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,6: | 2 |

| 11 | An infectious clone of the highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus: Topology of glycoprotein 3 (GP3) addressing the intrachain disulfide bonds显示文摘The highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory virus (hpPRRSV) with discontinuous 30 amino acid (aa) deletion as a gene marker has caused great economic loss in pig industry and since 2007 has become the dominant strain prevalent in China and Vietnam since 2007.Reverse genetics method is a powerful tool urgently needed to be used on the hpPRRSV to study the intriguing molecular mechanism of transcription,replication and the virulence determinant factors.In our study,we successfully constructed a fulllength infectious clone,prBJSY07,based on hpPRRSV isolate,BJSY07.The rescued virus,vrBJSY07,showed similar growth characters to those of the parental virus,BJSY07.We also found that a rescued virus vBJSY07 generated from pBJSY07 was viable but displayed decreased and delayed reproductive capacity,which might be caused by two amino acids mutations,S83C and S117C in glycoprotein 3 (GP3),acquired during the preparation of the infectious clone.The topology of the wild type GP3 and the mutant were further analyzed by bioinformatics and revealed that the mutated GP3 possessed slightly altered structure,most likely by forming a new disulfide bond between the two new cysteine residues.As GP3 is a cysteine-rich glycoprotein,common for viral glycoproteins,our results show that GP3 can accommodate even more cysteine mutations.Based on this,a topological model of GP3 is proposed by addressing the intrachain disulfides. | FENG ChunYan LIU YueHuan YAN JingHua George F. | 13 | Kinetics of Ozonation of Typical Sulfonamides in Water显示文摘Objective To investigate the kinetic rate constants ozone and hydroxyl radicals towards two groups of antimicrobials-sulfadiazine (SD) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX).Methods The solute consumption method was used to detect the rate constants of ozone alone with sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole,and tertiary butanol was selected as a scavenging agent and pH was adjusted to 2.5 by adding orthophosphate buffers (OB);and the competition kinetics studying methodwith nitrobenzene as a reference was applied to measure the rate constants of hydroxyl radicals towards sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole,and pH was adjusted to 7.0 by adding OB.Results The rate constants of SD and SMX with ozone alone were 261 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 and 303 mol ‐1 dm3 s ‐1 by calculating in low reaction system.The rate constants of hydroxyl radicals with SD and SMX were 2.2×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 and 2.7×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1,respectively.Moreover,the rate constants of hydroxyl radicals with SMX were found to have increased from 3.6×109 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 to 2.8×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 with pH value rising from 5.0 to 7.8.Conclusion SMX and SD are both refractory to ozone oxidation alone,and are liable to be degraded by hydroxyl radicals,and the rate constants of SMX with the hydroxyl radical slightly increases with pH rise. | SUI MingHao XING SiChu ZHU ChunYan SHENG Li LU KeXiang GAO NaiYun | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,3: | 1 |

| 16 | The thermal transformation mechanism of chlorinated paraffins:An experimental and density functional theory study显示文摘The increasing production and usage of chlorinated paraffins(CPs) correspondently increase the amount of CPs that experience thermal processes. Our previous study revealed that a significant amount of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins(MCCPs), short-chain chlorinated paraffins(SCCPs) as well as aromatic and chlorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(Cl-PAHs) were formed synergistically during the thermal decomposition of CP-52(a class of CP products).However, the transformation mechanisms of CP-52 to these compounds are still not very clear.This article presents a mechanistic analysis on the decomposition of CP-52 experimentally and theoretically. It was found that CP-52 initially undergoes dehydrochlorination and carbon chain cleavage and it transformed into chlorinated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. Cyclization and aromatization were the most accessible pathways at low temperatures(200–400°C), both of which produce mostly aromatic hydrocarbons. As the temperature exceeds 400°C, the hydrocarbons could decompose into small molecules, and the subsequent radical-induced reactions become the predominant pathways, leading to the formation of Cl-PAHs. The decomposition of CP-52 was investigated by using density functional theory and calculations demonstrating the feasibility and rationality of PCB and PCN formation from chlorobenzene.
