| 1 | Effects of tourmaline on nitrogen removal performance and biofilm structures in the sequencing batch biofilm reactor显示文摘The effects of tourmaline on nitrogen removal performance and biofilm structures were comparatively investigated in two identical laboratory-scale sequencing batch biofilm reactors(SBBRs)(denoted SBBR1 and SBBR2) at different nitrogen loading rates(NLRs) varying from(0.24 ± 0.01) to(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day). SBBR1 was operated in parallel with SBBR2, but SBBR1 was filled with polyurethane foam loaded tourmaline(TPU) carriers and another(SBBR2) filled with polyurethane foam(PU) carriers. Results obtained from this study showed that the excellent and stable performance of SBBR1 was obtained. Ammonia nitrogen removal and total nitrogen removal were higher in SBBR1 than that in SBBR2 with increase of NLR. At an NLR of(0.24 ± 0.01) g N/(L·day), the majority of the spherical and elliptical bacteria were surrounded by the extracellular polymeric substance(EPS) and bacillus or filamentous bacteria in two SBBRs biofilms. When NLR increased to(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day), the clusters were more obvious in the SBBR1 biofilm than that in the SBBR2 biofilm. Bacteria in SBBR1 were inclined to synthesis more EPS, and the formed EPS could protect the bacteria from free ammonia(FA) under extreme condition NLR(1.26 ± 0.02) g N/(L·day). | 4 | The artemisinin analog SM934 alleviates dry eye disease in rodent models by regulating TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling显示文摘Dry eye disease(DED)is a multifactorial disorder of the tears and ocular surface characterized by manifestations of dryness and irritation.Although the pathogenesis is not fully illuminated,it is recognized that inflammation has a prominent role in the development and deterioration of DED.β-aminoarteether maleate(SM934)is a water-soluble artemisinin derivative with antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive activities.In this study,we established scopolamine hydrobromide(SCOP)-induced rodent model as well as benzalkonium chloride(BAC)-induced rat model to investigate the therapeutic potential of SM934 for DED.We showed that topical application of SM934(0.1%,0.5%)significantly increased tear secretion,maintained the number of conjunctival goblet cells,reduced corneal damage,and decreased the levels of inflammatory mediators(TNF-α,IL-6,IL-10,or IL-1β)in conjunctiva in SCOP-induced and BAC-induced DED models.Moreover,SM934 treatment reduced the accumulation of TLR4-expressing macrophages in conjunctiva,and suppressed the expression of inflammasome components,i.e.,myeloid differentiation factor88(MyD88),Nod-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3),apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing CARD(ASC),and cleaved caspase 1.In LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells,we demonstrated that pretreatment with SM934(10μM)impeded the upregulation of TLR4 and downstream NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling proteins.Collectively,artemisinin analog SM934 exerts therapeutic benefits on DED by simultaneously reserving the structural integrity of ocular surface and preventing the corneal and conjunctival inflammation,suggested a further application of SM934 in ophthalmic therapy,especially for DED. | Fang-ming Yang Di Fan Xiao-qian Yang Feng-hua Zhu Mei-juan Shao Qian Li Yu-ting Liu Ze-min Lin Shi-qi Cao Wei Tang Shi-jun He Jian-ping Zuo | 2021 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,4: | 7 |
| 5 | Uncertainty-optimized deep learning model for small-scale person re-identification显示文摘In recent years, deep learning has developed rapidly and is widely used in various fields, such as computer vision, speech recognition, and natural language processing. For end-to-end person re-identification,most deep learning methods rely on large-scale datasets. Relatively few methods work with small-scale datasets. Insufficient training samples will affect neural network accuracy significantly. This problem limits the practical application of person re-identification. For small-scale person re-identification, the uncertainty of person representation and the overfitting problem associated with deep learning remain to be solved.Quantifying the uncertainty is difficult owing to complex network structures and the large number of hyperparameters. In this study, we consider the uncertainty of pedestrian representation for small-scale person re-identification. To reduce the impact of uncertain person representations, we transform parameters into distributions and conduct multiple sampling by using multilevel dropout in a testing process. We design an improved Monte Carlo strategy that considers both the average distance and shortest distance for matching and ranking. | 6 | Loss of Wip1 aggravates brain injury after ischaemia/reperfusion by overactivating microglia显示文摘Background and purpose The inflammatory response mediated by microglia/macrophages is closely related to cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion injury.Wild-type p53-induced protein phosphatase 1(Wip1),a serine/threonine phosphatase,is expressed in various tissues.A growing number of reports have suggested that Wip1 is a negative regulator of inflammation in peripheral tissue;however,its role in the central nervous system(CNS)remains unclear.This study aimed to clarify whether Wip1 can inhibit CNS inflammation by regulating microglia/macrophage functions after ischaemic injury.Methods A model of middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion was established in mice.CNS inflammation was simulated by lipopolysaccharide treatment of primary microglia.Laser speckle imaging was used to monitor regional cerebral blood flow.Behavioural outcomes were assessed with a TreadScan gait analysis system.TTC staining was used to evaluate the infarct volume,and western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were applied to detect the phenotypical transformation of microglia.ELISA was performed to detect the levels of inflammatory factors.Results Wip1 expression was increased after ischaemia/reperfusion.Wip1-knockout(KO)mice displayed more severe brain injury than wild-type mice,as indicated by aggravated motor dysfunction,greater brain infarct volumes and higher expression of inflammatory cytokines(interleukin-6 and tumour necrosis factor alpha)in the brain.We also found that Wip1 depletion increased microglial/macrophage activation in both in vitro and in vivo models,which all showed activation of microglia/macrophages.Lentivirus-Ppm1d reversed the injury induced by Wip1-KO.Conclusions Our results suggest that Wip1 may inhibit neuroinflammation by inhibiting microglial/macrophage activation after brain ischaemia/reperfusion injury. | Feng Yan Xiang Cheng Ming Zhao Shenghui Gong Ying Han Liping Ding Di Wu Yumin Luo Wei Zuo Lingling Zhu Ming Fan Xunming Ji | 2021 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,3: | 4 |

The hazards in APU are prone to cause economic losses and even casualties. So,actively identifying the hazards in APU before an accident occurs is necessary. In this paper, a Hybrid Deep Neural Network(HDNN) based on multi-time window convolutional neural network-Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(CNN-Bi LSTM) neural network is proposed for active hazard identification of APU in civil aircraft. In order to identify the risks caused by different types of failures, the proposed HDNN simultaneously integrates three CNN-Bi LSTM basic models with different time window sizes in parallel by using a fully connected neural network. The CNN-Bi LSTM basic model can automatically extract features representing the system state from the input data and learn the time information of irregular trends in the time series data. Nine benchmark models are compared with the proposed HDNN. The comparison results show that the proposed HDNN has the highest identification accuracy. The center wavelength of the generated mid-infrared frequency combs can be flexibly tuned by adjusting the wavelength of the CW seeds. | 15 | Comparative Study on Inorganic Composition and Crystallographic Properties of Cortical and Cancellous Bone显示文摘Objective To comparatively investigate the inorganic composition and crystallographic properties of cortical and cancellous bone via thermal treatment under 700 ℃.Methods Thermogravimetric measurement,infrared spectrometer,X-ray diffraction,chemical analysis and X-ray photo-electron spectrometer were used to test the physical and chemical properties of cortical and cancellous bone at room temperature 250 ℃,450 ℃,and 650 ℃,respectively.Results The process of heat treatment induced an extension in the a-lattice parameter and changes of the c-lattice parameter,and an increase in the crystallinity reflecting lattice rearrangement after release of lattice carbonate and possible lattice water.The mineral content in cortical and cancellous bone was 73.2wt% and 71.5wt%,respectively.For cortical bone,the weight loss was 6.7% at the temperature from 60 ℃ to 250 ℃,17.4% from 250 ℃ to 450 ℃,and 2.7% from 450 ℃ to 700 ℃.While the weight loss for the cancellous bone was 5.8%,19.9%,and 2.8 % at each temperature range,the Ca/P ratio of cortical bone was 1.69 which is higher than the 1.67 of stoichiometric HA due to the B-type CO32- substitution in apatite lattice.The Ca/P ratio of cancellous bone was lower than 1.67,suggesting the presence of more calcium deficient apatite.Conclusion The collagen fibers of cortical bone were arrayed more orderly than those of cancellous bone,while their mineralized fibers ollkded similar.The minerals in both cortical and cancellous bone are composed of poorly crystallized nano-size apatite crystals with lattice carbonate and possible lattice water.The process of heat treatment induces a change of the lattice parameter,resulting in lattice rearrangement after the release of lattice carbonate and lattice water and causing an increase in crystal size and crystallinity.This finding is helpful for future biomaterial design,preparation and application. | XIAO-YAN WANG,YI ZUO,DI HUANG,XIAN-DENG HOU,AND YU-BAO LI 2 Research Center for Nano-Biomaterials Analysis and Testing,Sichuan University,Chengdu 610064,Sichuan,China | 2010 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2010,23,6: | 2 |
