Efects of physical and chemical characteristics of surface sediments in the formation of shallow lake algae-induced black bloom显示文摘Surface sediments are closely related to lake black blooms. The dissolved oxygen(DO) distribution and its penetration depth in surface sediments as well as the migration and transformation of redox sensitive elements such as Fe and S at the sediment-water interface are important factors that could influence the formation of the black bloom. In this study, dredged and undredged sediment cores with diferent surface properties were used to simulate black blooms in the laboratory. The Micro Profiling System was employed to explore features of the DO and ∑ H2 S distribution at the sediment-water interface. Physical and chemical characteristics in sediments and pore waters were also analyzed. The results showed that sediment dredging efectively suppressed the black blooms. In the undredged treatment, DO penetration depth was only 50 μm. Fe2+concentrations, ∑ H2 S concentrations, and ∑ H2 S production rates were remarkably higher in surface sediments and pore waters compared to control and dredged treatments. Furthermore, depletion of DO and accumulation of Fe2+and ∑ H2 S in surface sediments and pore waters provided favorable redox environments and necessary material sources for the blooms. The study results proved that physical and chemical characteristics in surface sediments are important factors in the formation of the black bloom, and could provide scientific guidance for emergency treatment and long-term pre-control of black blooms. | Qiushi Shen Cheng Liu Qilin Zhou Jingge Shang Lei Zhang ChengXin Fan | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,12: | 43
Beyond hypoxia: Occurrence and characteristics of black blooms due to the decomposition of the submerged plant Potamogeton crispus in a shallow lake显示文摘Organic matter-induced black blooms(hypoxia and an offensive odor) are a serious ecosystem disasters that have occurred in some large eutrophic shallow lakes in China. In this study, we investigated two separate black blooms that were induced by Potamogeton crispus in Lake Taihu, China. The main physical and chemical characteristics, including color- and odor-related substances, of the black blooms were analyzed. The black blooms were characterized by low dissolved oxygen concentration(close to 0 mg/L), low oxidation-reduction potential, and relatively low pH of overlying water. Notably higher Fe2+and∑S2-were found in the black-bloom waters than in waters not affected by black blooms. The black color of the water may be attributable to the high concentration of these elements, as black FeS was considered to be the main substance causing the black color of blooms in freshwater lakes. Volatile organic sulfur compounds, including dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, and dimethyl trisulfide, were very abundant in the black-bloom waters. The massive anoxic degradation of dead Potamogeton crispus plants released dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, and dimethyl trisulfide, which were the main odor-causing compounds in the black blooms. The black blooms also induced an increase in ammonium nitrogen and soluble reactive phosphorus levels in the overlying waters. This extreme phenomenon not only heavily influenced the original lake ecosystem but also greatly changed the cycling of Fe, S, and nutrients in the water column. | Qiushi Shen Qilin Zhou Jingge Shang Shiguang Shao Lei Zhang Chengxin Fan | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,2: | 33
WSe2 2D p-type semiconductor-based electronic devices for information technology:Design, preparation, and applications显示文摘The pioneering exfoliation of monolayer tungsten diselenide has greatly inspired researchers toward semiconducting applications.WSe2 belongs to a family of transition-metal dichalcogenides.Similar to graphene,WSe2 and analogous dichalcogenides have layered structures with weak van der Waals interactions between two adjacent layers.First, the readers are presented with the fundamentals of WSe2,such as types, morphologies, and properties. Here,we report the characterization principles and practices such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and diffraction.Second, the methods for obtaining high-quality WSe2,such as exfoliation, hydrothermal and chemical vapor deposition, are briefly listed. With advantages of light weight, flexibility, and high quantum efficiency,2D materials may have a niche in optoelectronics as building blocks in p-n junctions. Therefore,we introduce a state-of-the-art demonstration of heterostructure devices employing the p-type WSe2 semiconductor. The device architectures include field-effect transistors, photodetectors, gas sensors, and photovoltaic solar cells.Due to its unique electronic, optical, and energy band properties,WSe2 has been increasingly investigated due to the conductivity of the p-type charge carrier upon palladium contact.Eventually, the dynamic research on WSe2 and van der Waals heterostructures is summarized to arouse the passion of the 2D research community. | Qilin Cheng Jinbo Pang Dehui Sun Jingang Wang Shu Zhang Fan Liu Yuke Chen Ruiqi Yang Na Liang Xiheng Lu Yanchen Ji Jian Wang Congcong Zhang Yuanhua Sang Hong Liu Weijia Zhou | 2020 | InfoMat2020,2,4: | 5
Study of Aircraft Icing Warning Algorithm Based on Millimeter Wave Radar显示文摘In order to avoid accidents due to aircraft icing, an algorithm for identifying supercooled water was studied. Specifically, a threshold method based on millimeter wave radar, lidar, and radiosonde was used to retrieve the coverage area of supercooled water and a fuzzy logic algorithm was used to classify the observed meteorological targets. The macrophysical characteristics of supercooled water could be accurately identified by combing the threshold method with the fuzzy logic algorithm. In order to acquire microphysical characteristics of supercooled water in a mixed phase, the unimodal spectral distribution of supercooled water was extracted from a bimodal or trimodal spectral distribution of a mixed phase cloud, which was then used to retrieve the effective radius and liquid water content of supercooled water by using an empirical formula. These retrieved macro-and micro-physical characteristics of supercooled water can be used to guide aircrafts during takeoff, flight, and landing to avoid dangerous areas. | Jinhu WANG Junxiang GE Qilin ZHANG Pan FAN Ming WEI Xiangchao LI | 2017 | Journal of Meteorological Research2017,31,6: | 4
Epsilon-negative BaTiO_(3)/Cu composites with high thermal conductivity and yet low electrical conductivity显示文摘Epsilon-negative materials with high thermal conductivity and low electrical conductivity are of great importance for high power microwave devices. In this work,BaTiO_(3)/Cu composites,as a class of epsilonnegative materials, are rationally designed to achieve a high thermal conductivity yet maintaining the electrical insulative character.Negative permittivity behavior induced by dielectric resonance and plasma oscillation is observed in these BaTiO_(3)/Cu composites, which can be explained by the Lorentz and Drude model respectively. An outstanding absorption ability is achieved near the zero-cross point of the permittivity.Benefiting from the positive temperature coefficient of resistance and the weak temperature dependence of thermal conductivity in BaTiO_(3)/Cu composites, sample containing 22.3 vol% of Cu content exhibits a thermal conductivity of up to 17.7 W/(m·k)and an electrical conductivity down to 0.0022(Ω cm)^(-1) at 150℃.Therefore,BaTiO_(3)/Cu composite is a promising candidate for applications in electromagnetic attenuation and thermal management. | Zhongyang Wang Kai Sun Peitao Xie Yao Liu Qilin Gu Runhua Fan John Wang | 2020 | Journal of Materiomics2020,6,1: | 3
Hierarchical porous carbon heterojunction flake arrays derived from metal organic frameworks and ionic liquid for H2O2 electrochemical detection in cancer tissue显示文摘The development of hierarchical nanostructure is demonstrated as an effective strategy to improve catalytic activity and stability of electrocatalysts.Herein,a novel leaf-like hierarchically porous heterojunction flake arrays(FAs),integrated graphitic N-doped carbon(NC)with amorphous B,N-doped carbon(BNC),has been designed and grown on flexible carbon fiber(CF)using metal-organic framework(MOF)FAs and green ionic liquids as precursors. The hierarchical heterojunction structure possesses micro-and nano-scaled pores, large surface areas, and exposed high-density catalytic active sites, which enhances electronic conductivity and offers accessible transport channels for effectively decreasing mass transport resistance. The results of discrete Fourier transform(DFT)calculations and experiments also suggest that the catalytic activity has been promoted by the heterojunction structure through narrowing the banding gap.Consequently, the resultant nanohybrid microelectrode exhibits remarkable electrochemical sensing performance towards H2O2 with a low detection limit of 50 nM,and a high sensitivity of 213μA×mM-1×cm-2,as well as good anti-interference capability. The practical application of nanohybrid fiber microelectrode has been explored by real-time monitoring H2O2 released from live colon cells and surgically-resected fresh colon cancer tissue, which can provide important information for the identification of different types of cells as well as distinguish cancer cells from normal ones.We believe this research will pave the way towards the development of advanced carbon nanomaterials for application in the fields of electrochemistry, biosensing, and cancer diagnosis. | Yan Zhang Qiying Lv Kai Chi Qilin Li Huiling Fan Bo Cai Fei Xiao Shuai Wang Zheng Wang Lin Wang | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,5: | 2

Effect of type-2 astrocytes on the viability of dorsal root ganglion neurons and length of neuronal processes显示文摘The role of type-2 astrocytes in the repair of central nervous system injury remains poorly understood. In this study, using a relatively simple culture condition in vitro, type-2 astrocytes, differentiated from oligodendrocyte precursor cells by induction with bone morphogenetic protein-4, were co-cultured with dorsal root ganglion neurons. We examined the effects of type-2 astrocytes differentiated from oligodendrocyte precursor cells on the survival and growth of dorsal root ganglion neurons. Results demonstrated that the number of dorsal root ganglion neurons was higher following co-culture of oligodendrocyte precursor cells and type-2 astrocytes than when cultured alone, but lower than that of neurons co-cultured with type-1 astrocytes. The length of the longest process and the length of all processes of a single neuron were shortest in neurons cultured alone, followed by neurons co-cultured with type-2 astrocytes, then neurons co-cultured with oligodendrocyte precursor cells, and longest in neurons co-cultured with type-1 astrocytes. These results indicate that co-culture with type-2 astrocytes can increase neuronal survival rate and process length. However, compared with type-1 astrocytes and oligodendrocyte precursor cells, the promotion effects of type-2 astrocytes on the growth of dorsal root ganglion neurons were weaker. | Chunling Fan Hui Wang Dan Chen Xiaoxin Cheng Kun Xiong Xuegang Luo Qilin Cao | 2014 | Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,2: | 0

Ginkgo biloba extract protects against depression-like behavior in mice through regulating gut microbial bile acid metabolism显示文摘Depression is a mental disorder with high morbidity, disability and relapse rates.Ginkgo biloba extract(GBE),a traditional Chinese medicine, has a long history of clinical application in the treatment of cerebral and mental disorders, but the key mechanism remains incompletely understood. Here we showed that GEB exerted anti-depressant effect in mice through regulating gut microbial metabolism.GBE protected against unpredictable mild stress(UMS)-induced despair,anxiety-like and social avoidance behavior in mice without sufficient brain distribution.Fecal microbiome transplantation transmitted, while antibiotic cocktail abrogated the protective effect of GBE.Spatiotemporal bacterial profiling and metabolomics assay revealed a potential involvement of Parasutterella excrementihominis and the bile acid metabolite ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA)in the effect of GBE.UDCA administration induced depression-like behavior in mice.Together, these findings suggest that GBE acts on gut microbiome-modulated bile acid metabolism to alleviate stress-induced depression. | ZHOU Junchi FAN Qilin CAI Xiaoying ZHANG Youying HOU Yuanlong CAO Shuqi LIZiguang FENG Mengzhen WANG Qingqing ZHANG Jianbing WANG Guangi ZHENG Xiao HAO Haiping | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2023,21,10: | 0
The composition and functional profile of the microbial communities in human gastric cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is known to be a major risk factor for the development of gastric cancer. In recent years, increasing attention is being paid to the role of non-H.pylori Helicobacters(NHPHs)in this disease and the role of microorganisms in local tumor microenvironment. In this study,we aimed to compare the microbial community composition and the predicted functional profile in paired cancer and adjacent normal tissues of gastric cancer patients.Cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues were collected from 10 patients with gastric cancer under endoscopy, and genomic DNA was extracted. The V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified by PCR and paired-end sequencing was performed on the Illumina MiSeq System. The data was analyzed using QIIME 2 software. The results showed that microbial richness and diversity as well as genetic diversity are significantly lower in cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. At the phylum level, the dominant taxa are Proteobacteria,Thermi,Actinobacteria,Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes in both groups. At the genus level, some taxa, such as Cupriavidus and Sphingomonas, are significantly enriched in cancer tissues, while other taxa, such as Ochrobactrum, are enriched in adjacent normal tissues. Moreover, those taxa enriched in cancer tissues are associated with the synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in the composition of the mucosa-related microbial communities between cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues in patients with gastric cancer. | Linli Shi Qilin Fan Bin Zhou Jingjing Wu Min Jin Dandan Yu Tao Zhang Jun Song Hongli Liu | 2022 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2022,54,1: | 0
Integrated proteogenomic characterization across major histological types of pituitary neuroendocrine tumors显示文摘Pituitary neuroendocrine tumor(PitNET)is one of the most common intracranial tumors.Due to its extensive tumor heterogeneity and the lack of high-quality tissues for biomarker discovery, the causative molecular mechanisms are far from being fully defined. Therefore, more studies are needed to improve the current clinicopathological classification system, and advanced treatment strategies such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy are yet to be explored. Here,we performed the largest integrative genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and phosphoproteomics analysis reported to date for a cohort of 200 PitNET patients.Genomics data indicate that GNAS copy number gain can serve as a reliable diagnostic marker for hyperproliferation of the PIT1 lineage.Proteomics-based classification of PitNETs identified 7 clusters, among which, tumors overexpressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)markers clustered into a more invasive subgroup.Further analysis identified potential therapeutic targets, including CDK6,TWIST1,EGFR,and VEGFR2,for different clusters.Immune subtyping to explore the potential for application of immunotherapy in PitNET identified an association between alterations in the JAK1-STAT1-PDL1 axis and immune exhaustion, and between changes in the JAK3-STAT6-FOS/JUN axis and immune infiltration. These identified molecular markers and alternations in various clusters/subtypes were further confirmed in an independent cohort of 750 PitNET patients. This proteogenomic analysis across traditional histological boundaries improves our current understanding of PitNET pathophysiology and suggests novel therapeutic targets and strategies. | Fan Zhang Qilin Zhang Jiajun Zhu Boyuan Yao Chi Ma Nidan Qiao Shiman He Zhao Ye Yunzhi Wang Rui Han Jinwen Feng Yongfei Wang Zhaoyu Qin Zengyi Ma Kai Li Yichao Zhang Sha Tian Zhengyuan Chen Subei Tan Yue Wu Peng Ran Ye Wang Chen Ding Yao Zhao | 2022 | Cell Research2022,32,12: | 0
APOE interacts with ACE2 inhibitingg SARS-CoV-2 cellular entry and inflammation in COVID-19 patients显示文摘Apolipoprotein E(APOE)plays a pivotal role in lipid including cholesterol metabolism. The APOE 4(APOE4)allele is a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases.Although APOE has recently been associated with increased susceptibility to infections of several viruses, whether and how APOEand its isoforms affect SARS-CoV-2 infection remains unclear. Here,we show that serum concentrations of APOE correlate inversely with levels of cytokine/chemokine in 73 COVID-19 patients.Utilizing multiple protein interaction assays,we demonstrate that APOE3 and APOE4 interact with the SARS-CoV-2 receptor ACE2;and APOE/ACE2 interactions require zinc metallopeptidase domain of ACE2,a key docking site for SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein. In addition,immuno-imaging assays using confocal,super-resolution,and transmission electron microscopies reveal that both APOE3 and APOE4 reduce ACE2/Spikemediated viral entry into cells.Interestingly, while having a comparable binding affinity to ACE2,APOE4 inhibits viral entry to a lesser extent compared to APOE3,which is likely due to APOE4's more compact structure and smaller spatial obstacle to compete against Spike binding to ACE2.Furthermore,APOE e4 carriers clinically correlate with increased SARS-CoV-2 infection and elevated serum inflammatory factors in 142 COVID-19 patients assessed. Our study suggests a regulatory mechanism underlying SARS-CoV-2 infection through APOE interactions with ACE2,which may explain in part increased COVID-19 infection and disease severity in APOE e4 carriers. | Hongsheng Zhang Lin Shao Zhihao Lin Quan-Xin Long Huilong Yuan Lujian Cai Guangtong Jiang Xiaoyi Guo Renzhi Yang Zepeng Zhang Bingchang Zhang Fan Liu Zhiyong Li Qilin Ma Yun-Wu Zhang Ai-Long Huang Zhanxiang Wang Yingjun Zhao Huaxi Xu | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,9: | 0
