Case-based learning in education of Traditional Chinese Medicine: a systematic review显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the effect of case-based learning(CBL)in the education of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS:The studies concerning TCM courses designed with CBL were included by searching the databases of EBSCO,Pubmed,Science Citation Index,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Chongqing VIP database. The valid data was extracted in accordance with the included criteria. The quality of the studies was assessed with Gemma Flores-Masteo.RESULTS:A total of 22 articles were retrieved that met the selection criteria:one was of high quality;two were of low quality;the rest were categorized as moderate quality. The majority of the studiesdemonstrated the better effect produced by CBL,while a few studies showed no difference, compared with the didactic format. All included studies confirmed the favorable effect on learners'attitude, skills and ability.CONCLUSION:CBL showed the desirable results in achieving the goal of learning.Compared to didactic approach,it played a more active role in promoting students'competency.Since the quality of the articles on which the study was based was not so high, the findings still need further research to become substantiated.Ji Chen Ying Li Yong Tang Fang Zeng Xi Wu Fanrong Liang 2013Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,5:30
Effect of acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in myocardial ischemia rats induced by isoproterenol显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in rat models of myocardial ischemia(MI) induced by isoproterenol(ISO).METHODS: Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to normal, model, and acupuncture groups. The model and acupuncture groups were given injections of ISO(85 mg/kg) to establish the MI model. After model establishment, the acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) for 30 min. Echocardiography was used to monitor diastolic and systolic function for 30 min starting from the time after the acupuncture needles were removed. Changes in the length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-diastole(LVIDd), length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-systole(LVIDs), the ratio of mitral peak velocity at early diastole and atrial contraction(E/A), ejection fraction(EF), fractional shortening(FS), and stroke volume(SV) were measured.RESULTS: Compared with the model group at 0and 15 min after needles were removed, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs were significantly lower(P <0.01) and E/A, EF, FS, and SV significantly higher(P < 0.01) in the acupuncture group. In the acupuncture group, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs15 min after the needles were removed were significantly higher(P < 0.01) than those at 0 min. The means of E/A, EF, FS, and SV significantly decreased(P < 0.01) from 0 to 15 min in the acupuncture group.CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) can affect cardiac function by increasing left ventricular diastolic and systolic function in MI rat models, but the effect only lasts for 15 min.Wang Songzi Ren Lu Jia Lianqun Gu Zhongyue Fan Xu Chen Wenna Hou Ping Liang Fanrong Rong Peijing Ma Tieming Liu Xulai Chen Yiguo 2015Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,6:12
Adakites related to subduc-tion in the northern margin of Junggar arc for the Late Paleozoic:Products of slab melting显示文摘Volcanic rocks with adakitic compositional signature have been recognized in the northern margin of ancient Junggar island arc for the Late Paleozoic. These adakites for the early Devonian from the Tuoranggekudouke Group (D1t) are characteristic of high Sr, Sr/Y and (La/Yb)N but low Y, Yb and HREE. Their compositional characteristics are much similar to those of the typical adakites in the world but distinct from those of the normal arc volcanic rocks from the same Group. We conclude that these adakitic volcanic rocks were produced by slab melting during the early period of Paleoasia-ocean lithosphere subduction. This infers that the Paleoasia Ocean in the north Junggar area began a new subduction process in the early Devonian.Jifeng Xu Houjun Mei Xueyuan Yu Zhenghua Bai Hecai Niu Fanrong Chen Zuoping Zhen Qiang Wang 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,15:11
Acupuncture therapy for angina pectoris:a systematic review显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture therapy for angina pectoris.METHODS:Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) concerned with acupuncture treatment of angina pectoris were identified by searching Academic Source Premier,MEDLINE,Science Citation Index Expanded, and three Chinese databases(China biology medicine database,China national knowledge infrastructure, and VIP database for Chinese technical periodicals). The valid data were extracted in accordance with our inclusion and exclusion criteria. The main outcomes of the included studies were synthesized using Revman 5.1.RESULTS:Twenty-one articles on 16 individual studies were included and evaluated as having high or moderate risk of bias according to the standards of the Cochrane Collaboration.Meta-analysis indicated that acupuncture combined with conventional drugs(ACCD) was superior to conventional drugs alone in reducing the incidence of acute myocardial infarction(AMI) [OR=0.18,95%CI(0.04,0.84),P=0.03].Moreover,ACCD was superior to conventional drugs in the relief of angina symptoms [OR=4.23,95%CI(2.73,6.56),P<0.00001],and improvement of electrocardiography(ECG) [OR=2.61,95%CI(1.83,3.73),P<0.00001].Acupuncture by itselfwasalsosuperiortoconventionaldrugsforanginasymptoms[OR=3.59,95%CI(1.76,7.92),P=0.0004] and ECG improvement [OR=3.07,95%CI(1.54,6.10),P=0.001].ACCD was superior to conventional drugs in shortening the time to onset of angina relief [WMD=-1.40,95% CI(-1.65,-1.15),P< 0.00001].However,the time to onset was significantly longer for acupuncture treatment than for conventional treatment alone [WMD=2.43,95%CI(1.63,3.23),P<0.000 01].CONCLUSION:ACCD reduced the occurrence of AMI,and both acupuncture and ACCD relieved angina symptoms and improved ECG.However, compared with conventional treatment, acupuncture showed a longer delay before its onset of action. This indicates that acupuncture is not suitable for emergency treatment of heart attack.Owing to the poor quality of the current evidence, the findings of this systematic review need to be verified by more RCTs to enhance statistical power.Ji Chen Yulan Ren Yong Tang Zhengjie Li Fanrong Liang 2012Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2012,32,4:10
Relation Classification via Recurrent Neural Network with Attention and Tensor Layers显示文摘Relation classification is a crucial component in many Natural Language Processing(NLP) systems. In this paper, we propose a novel bidirectional recurrent neural network architecture(using Long Short-Term Memory,LSTM, cells) for relation classification, with an attention layer for organizing the context information on the word level and a tensor layer for detecting complex connections between two entities. The above two feature extraction operations are based on the LSTM networks and use their outputs. Our model allows end-to-end learning from the raw sentences in the dataset, without trimming or reconstructing them. Experiments on the SemEval-2010 Task 8dataset show that our model outperforms most state-of-the-art methods.Runyan Zhang Fanrong Meng Yong Zhou Bing Liu 2018Big Data Mining and Analytics2018,1,3:9
A Resource for Inactivation of MicroRNAs Using Short Tandem Target Mimic Technology in Model and Crop Plants显示文摘microRNAs (miRNAs)are endogenous small non-coding RNAs that bind to mRNAs and target them for cleavage and/or translational repression, leading to gene silencing. We previously developed short tandem target mimic (STTM)technology to deactivate endogenous miRNAs in Arabidopsis. Here,we created hundreds of STTMs that target both conserved and species-specific miRNAs in Arabidopsis, tomato, rice, and maize, providing a resource for the functional interrogation of miRNAs.We not only revealed the functions of several miRNAs in plant development, but also demonstrated that tissue-specific inactivation of a few miRNAs in rice leads to an increase in grain size without adversely affecting overall plant growth and development.RNA-seq and small RNAseq analyses of STTM156/157 and STTM165/166 transgenic plants revealed the roles of these miRNAs in plant hormone biosynthesis and activation, secondary metabolism, and ion-channel activity-associated electrophysiology, demonstrating that STTM technology is an effective approach for studying miRNA functions. To facilitate the study and application of STTM transgenic plants and to provide a useful platform for storing and sharing of information about miRNA-regulated gene networks,we have established an online Genome Browser (https://blossom.ffr.mtu.edu/designindex2.php) to display the transcriptomic and miRNAomic changes in STTMinduced miRNA knockdown plants.Ting Peng Mengmeng Qiao Haiping Liu Sachin Teotia Zhanhui Zhang Yafan Zhao Bobo Wang Dongjie Zhao Lina Shi Cui Zhang Brandon Le Kestrel Rogers Chathura Gunasekara Haitang Duan Yiyou Gu Lei Tian Jinfu Nie Jian Qi Fanrong Meng Lan Huang Qinghui Chen Zhenlin Wang Jinshan Tang Xiaoqing Tang Ting Lan Xuemei Chen Hairong Wei Quanzhi Zhao Guiliang Tang 2018Molecular Plant2018,11,11:7
Influences of pouring temperature and cooling rate on microstructure and mechanical properties of casting Al-Si-Cu aluminum alloy显示文摘This paper investigated the influences of pouring temperature and cooling rate on the microstructure development and mechanical properties for casting Al-Si-Cu aluminum alloy. The microstructure of the as-cast samples was characterized by an optical microscope. The results showed that the dendrite arm spacing(DAS,λ) is well refined by pouring at a higher temperature. The λ decreases with increasing pouring temperature due to the multiplication of the nucleation sites in the superheating liquid melt, and the mechanical properties, such as microhardness and ultimate tensile strength increase correspondingly, while the elongation decreases. The relationships between microhardness and λ for the samples cooled in metal mould and sand mould, are given as HV=118.9 1.246λ and HV=115.2 1.029λ,respectively.The effects of the cooling rate controlled by using permanent mould casting and sand mould casing processes(the cooling medium is air and sand, respectively) on the dendrite arm spacing and mechanical properties are similar to the effect of the pouring temperature.Xiaowu HU Fanrong AI Hong YAN 2012Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2012,25,4:7

Different manual manipulations and electrical parameters exert different therapeutic effects of acupuncture显示文摘Acupuncture is an important component part of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). The therapeutic effects may be influenced by a variety of factors.Stimulation quantity is one of the factors for achieving good therapeutic effects in acupuncture practice. With the development of science and technology, besides the influence of manual manipulations, the parameters adopted for electroacupuncture have become the benchmark of stimulation quantity. This study, by referring to the related literatures, is designed to explore the influence of manual manipulations and electrical parameters on therapeutic effects of acupuncture. The results from the present study show that different manualmanipulations and electrical parameters may exert different therapeutic effects of acupuncture, which are closely related to the characteristics of diseases.Different manual manipulations and electrical parameters should be adopted according to syndrome differentiation of TCM. This is very important in acupuncture treatment.Zheng Yu Lu Luo Yu Li Qiaofeng Wu Shufang Deng Shouying Lian Fanrong Liang 2014Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2014,34,6:5
Coexpression network analysis reveals an MYB transcriptional activator involved in capsaicinoid biosynthesis in hot peppers显示文摘Plant biosynthesis involves numerous specialized metabolites with diverse chemical natures and biological activities. The biosynthesis of metabolites often exclusively occurs in response to tissue-specific combinatorial developmental cues that are controlled at the transcriptional level.Capsaicinoids are a group of specialized metabolites that confer a pungent flavor to pepper fruits.Capsaicinoid biosynthesis occurs in the fruit placenta and combines its developmental cues.Although the capsaicinoid biosynthetic pathway has been largely characterized, the regulatory mechanisms that control capsaicinoid metabolism have not been fully elucidated. In this study,we combined fruit placenta transcriptome data with weighted gene coexpression network analysis(WGCNA)to generate coexpression networks.A capsaicinoid-related gene module was identified in which the MYB transcription factor CaMYB48 plays a critical role in regulating capsaicinoid in pepper.Capsaicinoid biosynthetic gene(CBG)and CaMYB48 expression primarily occurs in the placenta and is consistent with capsaicinoid biosynthesis.CaMYB48 encodes a nucleus-localized protein that primarily functions as a transcriptional activator through its C-terminal activation motif.CaMYB48 regulates capsaicinoid biosynthesis by directly regulating the expression of CBGs,including AT3a and KasIa.Taken together, the results of this study indicate ways to generate robust networks optimized for the mining of CBG-related regulators, establishing a foundation for future research elucidating capsaicinoid regulation.Binmei Sun Xin Zhou Changming Chen Chengjie Chen Kunhao Chen Muxi Chen Shaoqun Liu Guoju Chen Bihao Cao Fanrong Cao Jianjun Lei Zhangsheng Zhu 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:5
Cerebral fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations may predict headache intensity improvement following acupuncture treatment in migraine patients显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To explore how baseline resting-state cerebral function predicts clinical outcomes of acupuncture treatment for migraine.METHODS:One hundred migraine patients and 46 healthy subjects were recruited.Patients were randomized into the acupuncture, sham acupuncture, and waiting list groups.Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were collected at baseline and after 1 month of longitudinal acupuncture treatments.Fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations(f ALFF)calculations were applied to explore the associations between baseline f ALFF and changes in clinical variables in the acupuncture treatment group and the waiting list group.RESULTS:Compared with healthy subjects, migraine patients had lower f ALFF in the left rostral ventromedial medulla, right thalamus, left amygdala, and right angular gyrus.Regression analyses revealed that baseline f ALFF values in the left middle frontal gyrus, left superior temporal gyrus, and middle temporal gyrus were positively associated with headache intensity changes in the acupuncture treatment group, while baseline f ALFF values in the bilateral lingual gyrus and cuneus were negatively associated with headache intensity changes in this group.CONCLUSION:The baseline f ALFF values of brain regions associated with cognitive pain modulation, but not migraine severity, may predict future headache intensity improvement levels in migraine patients receiving acupuncture treatment.Li Zhengjie Zhou Jun Cheng Shirui Lan Lei Sun Ruirui Liu Mailan Yang Jie Gao Yujie Guo Taipin Gong Qiyong Zeng Fang Liang Fanrong 2020Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2020,40,6:5
Discovery of Mg-righ volcanic rock series in western Altay area, Xinjiang and its geologic significance显示文摘A series of Mg-rich volcanic rocks, including rare Mg-rich dacites in the Asherle copper mine, western Altay Area, has been found. This suite of Mg-rich volcanic rocks is characterized by high SiO2, MgO and low Ti contents. Compared with the island arc tholeiite and MORB, these rocks are depleted in HFSE and are therefore similar to boninite. 13Kinetics of FeSe_2 oxidation by ferric iron and its reactivity compared with FeS_2显示文摘The mobility and bioavailability of selenium is a major health and environmental issue and a main concern for geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste. Chemically and/or microbially mediated oxidation of insoluble Se-bearing particulate, such as iron selenides, to dissolved and mobile phases controls the transport and distribution of Se in the environment. The oxidation of ferroselite(FeSe2) by ferric iron was investigated in anoxic conditions. The redox reaction can be represented by: FeSe2 + 2Fe3+ = 2Se0 + 3Fe2+. Kinetic studies indicated that the reaction can be described by second-order rate law, with rate constants of 0.49±0.01, 0.85±0.02, 1.84±0.04, and 3.29±0.13 L mol-1 s-1 at pH 1.62, 1.87, 2.23, and 2.49, respectively. The positive correlation between reaction rate and pH implies that diffusion of Fe3+ oxidant to the mineral surface is the rate-determining step. The strong reactivity of FeSe2 towards Fe3+ suggests that ferric iron may play a significant role in FeSe2 oxidation process(e.g., by Se4+, O2, etc.) and Se0 should be the first reaction product. Also, it was shown that the reduction rate of Fe3+ or Se4+ by pyrite(FeS2) can be significantly increased in the presence of FeSe2, suggesting a stronger reactivity of FeSe2 compared with pyrite. The results obtained extend our knowledge about the subtle interaction between Se, pyrite and iron selenides in the environment, and give insight into the transfer of selenium from iron selenides to bio-available selenium(i.e., selenite and selenate) in the Se-rich environment.MA Bin NIE Zhe LIU ChunLi KANG MingLiang BARDELLI Fabrizio CHEN FanRong CHARLET Laurent 2014Science China Chemistry2014,57,9:3
A central analgesic mechanism of acupuncture for migraine An ongoing functional MRI study显示文摘Shaoyang acupoints are the most frequently used in migraine treatment. However, the central analgesic mechanism remains poorly understood.Studies have demonstrated that single stimulus of the verum acupuncture in healthy subjects can induce significant connectivity or activity changes in painrelated central networks compared with sham acupuncture. However, these findings are not indicative of the central analgesic mechanism of acupuncture at Shaoyang acupoints. Thus,we recruited 100migraine sufferers and randomly assigned them into five groups:Shaoyang uncommon acupoint,Shaoyang common acupoint,Yangming uncommon acupoint,non-acupoint control, and blank control groups.Subjects were subjected to evaluation of curative effects and functional MRI prior to and after10 and 20 acupuncture treatments. All subjects were diagnosed by physicians and enrolled following clinical physical examination.Subjects were observed during 1–4 weeks after inclusion. At the fifth week, the first clinical evaluation and resting functional MRI were conducted. The Shaoyang uncommon acupoint,Shaoyang common acupoint,Yangming uncommon acupoint, and non-acupoint control grousp then were treated with acupuncture, five times per week,20 times in total over 4 weeks. The second and third clinical evaluations and resting functional MRI screenings were conducted following10 and 20 acupuncture treatments. The blank control group was observed during the 5 to 8 week period, followed by clinical evaluation and resting functional MRI.The aim of this study was to examine changes in brain functional activity and central networks in subjects with migraine undergoing acupuncture at Shaoyang uncommon acupoints. This study provides a further explanation of the central analgesic mechanism by which acupuncture at Shaoyang acupoints treats migraine.Lei Lan Yujie Gao Fang Zeng Wei Qin Mingkai Dong Mailan Liu Taipin Guo Fanrong Liang 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,28:3
Effect of acupuncture plus conventional treatment on brain activity in ischemic stroke patients: a regional homogeneity analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine differences in cerebral activity evoked by acupuncture and conventional stroke treatment, and identify the treatment targets.METHODS: In total, 21 patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group A(11 patients) received both acupuncture and conventional treatment, while group B(10 patients) received conventional treatment only. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(f MRI) was performed on each participant before and after treatment. Regional homogeneity analysis was performed to investigate the potential mechanism of acupuncture treatment by comparing differences in cerebral activity between treatments.RESULTS: Group A showed higher Re Ho in the frontal lobe(BA6, BA46), supra-marginal gyrus(BA40),middle temporal gyrus(BA21), cerebellum, and insula. Group B showed higher Re Ho in the frontal lobe(BA6) and parietal lobe(BA3, BA7).CONCLUSION: Acupuncture and conventional treatment triggered relatively different clinical efficacy and brain responses. Acupuncture treatment more significantly improved the symptoms of stroke patients. More marked changes in sensory, emotional, and motor areas(including the frontal lobe, middle temporal gyrus, cerebellum, and insula) might reflect the specific acupuncture mechanism.Wu Ping Zeng Fang Li Yongxin Li Ji Qiu Lihua Qin Wei Luo Lu Yin Canxin Xiong Yan Bai Yu Wang Dan Zhou Yumei Liang Fanrong 2017Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,5:3

The Relationship between Shell Morphology and Crevice Size Affecting Retreat Selection of the Keeled Box Turtle(Cuora mouhotii)显示文摘Rock crevices are important retreat sites for many reptiles.Unlike lizards and snakes, crevicedwelling turtles have rigid shells which severely limit the size and shape of crevices they are able to use.Few studies have addressed the relationship between turtle's shell morphology, behavior, and crevice size. Here,we investigate the relationship between morphology and crevice size selection in the Keeled box turtle(Cuora mouhotii). We radio tracked turtles in the field to document crevice dimensions and turtle behavior associated with crevices, and we conducted a controlled experiment in the lab to understand how a turtle's morphology influences its decision to select crevices with different dimensions. Both laboratory and field experiments demonstrate that turtles select deep and moderately wide crevices that are low enough to barely accommodate the carapace.Crevices used by turtles tend to be about 2 times as wide,1.2 times as high, and 3 times longer than the turtle's shell. Moreover, turtles tended to prefer crevices with horizontal openings in the field and position themselves head first in the crevice. We conclude that morphology, especially carapace height, influences the Keeled box turtles' decision to select specific sizes of crevice. We argue that the tendency for turtles to select crevices that come into contact with their carapace contributes to successful defense against predators,as it would be more difficult for a predator to remove a turtle when the crevice is nearly touching the turtles shell.Fanrong XIAO Zhen HONG Jichao WANG Taggert BUTTERFIELD Haitao SHI 2020Asian Herpetological Research2020,11,4:2

Research on lamellar structure and micro-hardness of directionally solidified Sn-58Bi eutectic alloy显示文摘In this work, the Sn-58Bi(weight percent) eutectic alloy was directionally solidified at a constant temperature gradient(G = 12 K.mm-1) with different growth rates using a Bridgman type directional solidification furnace.A lamellar microstructure was observed in the Sn-58Bi samples. The lamellar spacing and micro-hardness of longitudinal and transversal sections were measured. The values of lamellar spacing of both longitudinal and transversal sections decrease with an increase in growth rate. The microhardness increases with an increase in the growth rate and decreases with an increase in the lamellar spacing. The dependence of lamellar spacing on growth rate, and micro-hardness on both growth rate and lamellar spacing were obtained by linear regression analysis. The relationships between the lamellar spacing and growth rate, microhardness and growth rate, and micro-hardness and lamellar spacing for transversal and longitudinal sections of Sn-58Bi eutectic alloy were given. The fitted exponent values obtained in this work were compared with the previous similar experimental results and a good agreement was obtained.Hu Xiaowu Li Ke Ai Fanrong 2012China Foundry2012,9,4:1
