| 2 | Plasmonics for solid-state lighting: enhanced excitation and directional emission of highly efficient light sources显示文摘Light sources based on reliable and energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are instrumental in the development of solid-statelighting (SSL). Most research efforts in SSL have focused on improving both the intrinsic quantum efficiency (QE) and the stability oflight emitters. For this reason, it is broadly accepted that with the advent of highly efficient (QE close to 1) and stable emitters, thefundamental research phase of SSL is coming to an end. In this study, we demonstrate a very large improvement in SSL emission (above70-fold directional enhancement for p-polarized emission and 60-fold enhancement for unpolarized emission) using nanophotonicstructures. This is attained by coupling emitters with very high QE to collective plasmonic resonances in periodic arrays of aluminumnanoantennas. | 3 | Liver transplantation for malignancy:current treatment strategies and future perspectives显示文摘In 1967,Starzl et al performed the first successful liver transplantation for a patient diagnosed with hepatoblastoma.In the following,liver transplantation was considered ideal for complete tumor resection and potential cure from primary hepatic malignancies.Several reports of liver transplantation for primary and metastatic liver cancer however showed disappointing results and the strategy was soon dismissed.In1996,Mazzaferro et al introduced the Milan criteria,offering liver transplantation to patients diagnosed with limited hepatocellular carcinoma.Since then,liver transplantation for malignant disease is an ongoing subject of preclinical and clinical research.In this context,several aspects must be considered:(1)Given the shortage of deceased-donor organs,long-term overall and disease free survival should be comparable with results obtained in patients transplanted for nonmalignant disease;(2)In this regard,living-donor liver transplantation may in selected patients help to solve the ethical dilemma of optimal individual patient treatment vs organ allocation justice;and(3)Ongoing research focusing on perioperative therapy and antiproliferative immunosuppressive regimens may further reduce tumor recurrence in patients transplanted for malignant disease and thus improve overall survival.The present review gives an overview of current indications and future perspectives of liver transplantation for malignant disease. | Christina Hackl Hans J Schlitt Gabriele I Kirchner Birgit Knoppke Martin Loss | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，18： | 7 |

| 6 | Liver stiffness reversibly increases during pregnancy and independently predicts preeclampsia显示文摘AIM To study liver stiffness(LS) during pregnancy and its association with complications during pregnancy.METHODS In this observational, diagnostic study, 537 pregnant women were prospectively enrolled at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University hospital Heidelberg and Salem Medical Center. LS was measured using the Fibroscan device(Echosens, Paris) in all women and in 41 cases 24 h after delivery. Clinical and morphological data were recorded and abdominal ultrasound and standard laboratory tests were performed. No complications were observed in 475 women(controls) while preeclampsia and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP) developed in 22 and 40 women, respectively.RESULTS In controls, LS increased significantly from initially 4.5 ± 1.2 kPa in the second trimester to 6.0 ± 2.3 kPa(P < 0.001) in the third trimester. In the third trimester, 41% of women had a LS higher than 6 kPa. Elevated LS in controls was significantly correlated with alkaline phosphatase, leukocytes, gestational age and an increase in body weight and body mass index(BMI). In women with pregnancy complications, LS was significantly higher as compared to controls(P < 0.0001). Moreover, in multivariate analysis, LS was an independent predictor for preeclampsia with an odds ratio of 2.05(1.27-3.31) and a cut-off value of 7.6 kPa. In contrast, ICP could not be predicted by LS. Finally, LS rapidly decreased in all women within 24 h after delivery from 7.2 ± 3.3 kPa down to 4.9 ± 2.2 kPa(P < 0.001).CONCLUSION During pregnancy, LS significantly and reversibly increases in the final trimester of pregnant women without complications.
