| 1 | Extract of Naotaifang, a compound Chinese herbal medicine, protects neuron ferroptosis induced by acute cerebral ischemia in rats显示文摘Objective:Our previous research showed that Naotaifang(a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine)extract(NTE)has clinically beneficial effects on neurological improvement of patients with acute cerebral ischemia.In this study,we investigated whether NTE protected acute brain injury in rats and whether its effects on ferroptosis could be linked to the dysfunction of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)and iron metabolism.Methods:We established an acute brain injury model of middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)in rats,in which we could observe the accumulation of iron in neurons,as detected by Perl’s staining.Using assay kits,we measured expression levels of ferroptosis biomarkers,such as iron,glutathione(GSH),reactive oxygen species(ROS)and malonaldehyde(MDA);further the expression levels of transferrin receptor1(TFR1),divalent metal transporter 1(DMT1),solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7 A11)and GPX4 were determined using immunohistochemical analysis,real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assays.Results:We found that treatment with NTE reduced the expression levels of TFR1 and DMT1,reduced ROS,MDA and iron accumulation and reduced neurobehavioral scores,relative to untreated MCAO rats.Treatment with NTE increased the expression levels of SLC7 A11,GPX4 and GSH,and the number of Nissl bodies in the MCAO rats.Conclusion:Taken together,our data suggest that acute cerebral ischemia induces neuronal ferroptosis and the effects of treating MCAO rats with NTE involved inhibition of ferroptosis through the TFR1/DMT1 and SCL7 A11/GPX4 pathways. | Bin Lan Jin-wen Ge Shao-wu Cheng Xi-long Zheng Jun Liao Chao He Zheng-qing Rao Guo-zuo Wang | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,18,4: | 37 |

| 5 | On-road pollutant emission and fuel consumption characteristics of buses in Beijing显示文摘On-road emission and fuel consumption (FC) levels for Euro III and IV buses fueled on diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) were compared,and emission and FC characteristics of buses were analyzed based on approximately 28,700 groups of instantaneous data obtained in Beijing using a portable emissions measurement system (PEMS).The experimental results revealed that NOx and PM emissions from CNG buses were decreased by 72.0% and 82.3% respectively,compared with Euro IV diesel buses.Similarly,these emissions were reduced by 75.2% and 96.3% respectively,compared with Euro III diesel buses.In addition,CO 2,CO,HC,NOx,PM emissions and FC of Euro IV diesel buses were reduced by 26.4%,75.2%,73.6%,11.4%,79.1%,and 26.0%,respectively,relative to Euro III diesel buses.The CO 2,CO,HC,NOx,PM emissions and FC factors all decreased with bus speed increased,while increased as bus acceleration increased.At the same time,the emission/FC rates as well as the emission/FC factors exhibited a strong positive correlation with the vehicle specific power (VSP).They all were the lowest when VSP < 0,and then rapidly increased as VSP increased.Furthermore,both the emission/FC rates and emission/FC factors were the highest at accelerations,higher at cruise speeds,and the lowest at decelerations for non-idling buses.These results can provide a base reference to further estimate bus emission and FC inventories in Beijing. | Aijuan Wang Yunshan Ge Jianwei Tan Mingliang Fu Asad Naeem Shah Yan Ding Hong Zhao Bin Liang | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,3: | 19 |
| 6 | Over-expression of Metastasis-associated in Colon Cancer-1 (MACC1) Associates with Better Prognosis of Gastric Cancer Patients显示文摘Objective: The aim of this study was to detect metastasis-associated in colon cancer-1 (MACC1) expression in Chinese gastric cancer and analyze the relationship between MACC1 expression and postoperative survival. Methods: The expression of MACC1 and c-MET protein in a sample of 128 gastric cancer tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. A retrospective cohort study on the prognosis was carried out and data were collected from medical records. Results: The positive rate of MACC1 protein expression in gastric cancer was 47.66%, higher than that in adjacent noncancerous mucosa (P<0.001). MACC1 protein expression was not related to the clinicopathological variables involved. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the survival of MACC1 positive group tended to be better than that of MACC1 negative group, particularly in patients with stage III carcinoma (P=0.032). Cox regression analysis revealed that MACC1 protein over-expression in gastric cancer tended to be a protective factor with hazard ratio of 0.621 (P=0.057). Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the positive rate of c-MET protein expression was much higher in cases with positive MACC1 expression in gastric cancer (P=0.002), but P53 expression was not associated with MACC1 expression. | 7 | Co-infections with Babesia microti and Plasmodium parasites along the China-Myanmar border显示文摘Background:Babesiosis is an emerging health risk in several parts of the world.However,little is known about the prevalence of Babesia in malaria-endemic countries.The area along the China-Myanmar border in Yunnan is a main endemic area of malaria in P.R.China,however,human infection with Babesia microti(B.microti)is not recognized in this region,and its profile of co-infection is not yet clear.Methods:To understand its profile of co-infections with B.microti,our investigation was undertaken in the malaria-endemic area along the China-Myanmar border in Yunnan between April 2012 and June 2013.Four parasite species,including B.microti,Plasmodium falciparum(P.falciparum),P.vivax,and P.malariae,were identified among 449 suspected febrile persons detected by nested polymerase chain reaction(PCR)assay based on small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid(RNA)genes of B.microti and Plasmodium spp.Results:Of all the collected samples from febrile patients,mono-infection with B.microti,P.vivax,P.falciparum,and P.malariae accounted for 1.8%(8/449),9.8%(44/449),2.9%(13/449),and 0.2%(1/449),respectively.The rate of mixed infections of B.microti with P.falciparum or P.vivax are both 0.2%(1/449),and mixed infections of P.falciparum and P.vivax accounted for 1.1%(5/449).Conclusions:This report supports the hypothesis that babesiosis caused by B.microti is emerging along the China-Myanmar border in the Yunnan province,P.R.China,but it was ignored because of low parasitemia or mixed infection with Plasmodium spp.More sensitive and specific diagnosis methods are needed to find the rapid response mechanism of emergency for babesiosis and malaria co-prevalence areas. | Xia Zhou Sheng-Guo Li Shen-Bo Chen Jia-Zhi Wang Bin Xu He-Jun Zhou Hong-Xiang Zhu Ge Jun-Hu Chen Wei Hu | 2013 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2013,2,1: | 18 |

| 9 | Societal response to challenges of global change and human sustainable development显示文摘It is now widely accepted that carbon emission from human activities is an important driving force in global warming, and global change has a deep impact on sustainable development of human society. To meet the challenges of global change, the international community has reached a consensus that developed countries take strict actions in emission reduction, whereas developing countries take spontaneous efforts in reducing emissions under the guiding principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, with an agreed goal to restrict global surface temperature increase due to human activities to within 2℃ of pre-industrial levels. However, there is no clear pathway to reach this goal. A number of related questions must be addressed on principles to be followed, research emphasis and policy measures. Here we argue that response policies to address global change issues must be based on balanced development at regional and international levels, and on advancements in science and technology. This requires consideration of harmony not only between humans and nature but also within human societies, to properly deal with the relationship between global change and sustainable development. We must make equal efforts toward carbon emission reduction and carbon sequestration, and toward mitigation and adaptation. There should be more research support to reduce uncertainties in our understanding of global change. Addressing the challenges of global change creates great opportunities for the development of human society. | 12 | Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. | 17 | Active greeting technique: a mother-and-child catheter based technique to facilitate retrograde wire externalization in recanalization of coronary chronic total occlusion显示文摘Although retrograde approach has greatly improved the success rate of percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) for coronary chronic total occlusion(CTO), retrograde wire externalization still remains challenging and time-consuming in some cases. Cases utilizing ‘‘Active Greeting Technique(AGT)', a mother-and-child catheter based technique to facilitate retrograde wire externalization, were extracted from Chronic Total Occlusion Club, China(CTOCC) database. AGT was performed by deep intubation a mother-and-child catheter(GuidezillaTMextension, 4 or 5 Fr inner catheter, and etc.) in combination with either reverse controlled antegrade or retrograde subintimal tracking(CART) technique or retrograde wire crossing technique. A total of 111 patients with 112 CTO lesions treated with this technique were retrospectively analyzed. Reverse CART technique and retrograde wire crossing technique were performed in 90.2% and 9.8% of all procedures. The utilization of GuidezillaTMextension, 4 Fr, and 5 Fr inner catheter accounted for 94.6%, 3.6%, and 1.8%, respectively. Externalization of retrograde wire was successful in all cases. No procedural complications were adjudicated to AGT. Complications independent of AGT included two target vessel perforations and two collateral perforations. No in-hospital major adverse cardiac events were found. | 18 | Lake records and LGM climate in China显示文摘Chinese lake status database has provided systematic geological records of much higher lake level and fresher water than today at the LGM from western China. This wet condition was significant contrast with very dry conditions in eastern China. Together with lake studies from Eurasian continents, there was a wet-condition belt from the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Central Asia to western China. Palaeoclimate simulations confirmed that the wet conditions in western China were produced by decrease of the evaporation and increase of precipitation by positive anomaly of annual P-E of 70-95 mm/a between the LGM and today. | 19 | Periodontitis may induce gut microbiota dysbiosis via salivary microbiota显示文摘The aim of this study was to identify whether periodontitis induces gut microbiota dysbiosis via invasion by salivary microbes.First,faecal and salivary samples were collected from periodontally healthy participants(PH group,n=16)and patients with severe periodontitis(SP group,n=21)and analysed by 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing.Significant differences were observed in both the faecal and salivary microbiota between the PH and SP groups.Notably,more saliva-sourced microbes were observed in the faecal samples of the SP group.Then,the remaining salivary microbes were transplanted into C57BL6/J mice(the C-PH group and the C-SP group),and it was found that the composition of the gut microbiota of the C-SP group was significantly different from that of the C-PH group,with Porphyromonadaceae and Fusobacterium being significantly enriched in the C-SP group.In the colon,the C-SP group showed significantly reduced crypt depth and zonula occludens-1 expression.The m RNA expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines,chemokines and tight junction proteins were significantly higher in the C-SP group.To further investigate whether salivary bacteria could persist in the intestine,the salivary microbiota was stained with carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester and transplanted into mice.We found that salivary microbes from both the PH group and the SP group could persist in the gut for at least 24 h.Thus,our data demonstrate that periodontitis may induce gut microbiota dysbiosis through the influx of salivary microbes. | Jun Bao Lili Li Yangheng Zhang Min Wang Faming Chen Shaohua Ge Bin Chen Fuhua Yan | 2022 | International Journal of Oral Science2022,14,3: | 9 |
