| 2 | Stability analyses of vertically exposed cemented backfill:A revisit to Mitchell's physical model tests显示文摘Mitchell's solution is commonly used to determine the required strength of vertically exposed cemented backfill in mines. Developed for drained backfill, Mitchell model assumed a zero friction angle for the backfill. Physical model tests were performed. Good agreements were obtained between the required strengths predicted by the analytical solution and experimental results. However, it is well-known that zero friction angle can only be possible in terms of total stresses when geomaterials are submitted to unconsolidated and undrained conditions. A revisit to Mitchell's physical model tests reveals that both the laboratory tests performed for obtaining the shear strength parameters of the cemented backfill and the box stability tests were conducted under a condition close to undrained condition. This explains well the good agreement between Mitchell's solution and experimental results. | 5 | A detailed investigation of low latitude tweek atmospherics observed by the WHU ELF/VLF receiver:Ⅰ. Automatic detection and analysis method显示文摘As a dispersive wave mode produced by lightning strokes, tweek atmospherics provide important hints of lower ionospheric(i.e., D-region) electron density. Based on data accumulation from the WHU ELF/VLF receiver system, we develop an automatic detection module in terms of the maximum-entropy-spectral-estimation(MESE) method to identify unambiguous instances of low latitude tweeks.We justify the feasibility of our procedure through a detailed analysis of the data observed at the Suizhou Station(31.57°N, 113.32°E) on17 February 2016. A total of 3961 tweeks were registered by visual inspection;the automatic detection method captured 4342 tweeks, of which 3361 were correct ones, producing a correctness percentage of 77.4%(= 3361/4342) and a false alarm rate of 22.6%(= 981/4342).A Short-Time Fourier Transformation(STFT) was also applied to trace the power spectral profiles of identified tweeks and to evaluate the tweek propagation distance. It is found that the fitting accuracy of the frequency–time curve and the relative difference of propagation distance between the two methods through the slope and through the intercept can be used to further improve the accuracy of automatic tweek identification. | 9 | Transplantation of placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells in type 2 diabetes:a pilot study显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSC)have been used in clinical trials for severe diabetes,a chronic disease with high morbidity and mortality.Bone marrow is the traditional source of human MSC,but human term placenta appears to be an alternative and more readily available source.Here,the therapeutic effect of human placenta-derived MSC(PD-MSC)was studied in type 2 diabetes patients with longer duration,islet cell dysfunction,high insulin doses as well as poor glycemic control in order to evaluate the safety,efficacy and feasibility of PD-MSC treatment in type 2 diabetes(T2D).Ten patients with T2D received three intravenous infusions of PDSC,with one month interval of infusion.The total number of PDSC for each patient was(1.22–1.51)×10^(6)/kg,with an average of 1.35×10^(6)/kg.All of the patients were followed up after therapy for at least 3 months.A daily mean dose of insulin used in 10 patients was decreased from 63.7±18.7 to 34.7±13.4 IU(P<0.01),and the C-peptide level was increased from 4.1±3.7 ng/mL to 5.6±3.8 ng/mL(P<0.05)respectively after therapy.In 4 of 10 responders their insulin doses reduced more than 50%after infusion.The mean levels of insulin and C-peptide at each time point in a total of 10 patients was higher after treatment(P<0.05).No fever,chills,liver damage and other side effects were reported.The renal function and cardiac function were improved after infusion.The results obtained from this pilot clinical trial indicate that transplantation of PD-MSC represents a simple,safe and effective therapeutic approach for T2D patients with islet cell dysfunction.Further large-scale,randomized and well-controlled clinical studies will be required to substantiate these observations. | Ranhua JIANG Zhibo HAN Guangsheng ZHUO Xiaodan QU Xue LI Xin WANG Yuankang SHAO Shimin YANG Zhong Chao HAN | 2011 | Frontiers of Medicine2011,5,1: | 5 |

| 13 | Microstructures and mechanical properties of titanium-reinforced magnesium matrix composites: Review and perspective显示文摘Currently, many gratifying signs of progress have been made in magnesium(Mg) matrix composites(MMCs) by virtue of their high mechanical properties both at room and elevated temperatures. Although the commonly used reinforcements in MMCs are ceramic particles,they often provide improved yield and ultimate stresses by a significant loss in ductility. Therefore, hard metallic phases were introduced as alternative candidates for the manufacturing of MMCs, especially titanium(Ti). It has a high melting point, high Young’s modulus, high plasticity, low level of mutual solubility with Mg matrix, and closer thermal expansion coefficient to that of Mg metal than that of ceramic particles. It is highly preferable to provide both high ultimate stress and ductility in Mg matrix. However, many critical challenges for the fabrication of Ti-reinforced MMCs remain, such as Ti’s homogeneity, low recovery rate, and the optimization of interfacial bonding strength between Mg and Ti, etc. Meanwhile, different fabrication methods have various effects on the microstructures, mechanical properties, and the interfacial strength of Ti-reinforced MMCs. Hence, this review placed emphasis on the microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of Ti-reinforced MMCs fabricated by different techniques. The influencing factors that govern the strengthening mechanisms were systematically compared and discussed. | 15 | Genome assembly of the maize inbred line A188 provides a new reference genome for functional genomics显示文摘The current assembled maize genomes cannot represent the broad genetic diversity of maize germplasms.Acquiring more genome sequences is critical for constructing a pan-genome and elucidating the linkage between genotype and phenotype in maize.Here we describe the genome sequence and annotation of A188,a maize inbred line with high phenotypic variation relative to other lines,acquired by single-molecule sequencing and optical genome mapping.We assembled a 2210-Mb genome with a scaffold N50 size of 11.61 million bases(Mb),compared to 9.73 Mb for B73 and 10.2 Mb for Mo17.Based on the B73_Ref Gen_V4 genome,295 scaffolds(2084.35 Mb,94.30%of the final genome assembly)were anchored and oriented on ten chromosomes.Comparative analysis revealed that~30%of the predicted A188 genes showed large structural divergence from B73,Mo17,and W22 genomes,which causes high protein divergence and may lead to phenotypic variation among the four inbred lines.As a line with high embryonic callus(EC)induction capacity,A188 provides a convenient tool for elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying the formation of EC in maize.Combining our new A188 genome with previously reported QTL and RNA sequencing data revealed eight genes with large structural variation and two differentially expressed genes playing potential roles in maize EC induction. | Fei Ge Jingtao Qu Peng Liu Lang Pan Chaoying Zou Guangsheng Yuan Cong Yang Guangtang Pan Jianwei Huang Langlang Ma Yaou Shen | 2022 | The Crop Journal2022,10,1: | 2 |

| 18 | Combination of dynamic hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction with HPLC analysis for the determination of UV filters in cosmetic products显示文摘A simple method based on hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) followed by high performance liquid chro-matography (HPLC) analysis was successfully developed for the determination of UV filters in cosmetic products. A canular extractor was assembled by mounting a hollow fiber inside an external tube with a tee-connector. The organic solvent was immobilized into the fiber to form a liquid membrane as the acceptor phase. The sample was continuously injected into the extractor and the UV filters were extracted from the aqueous sample into organic acceptor phase. The main parameters affecting HF-LPME including extraction solvent, sample volume, sample flow rate, pH values and ionic strength were investigated. Toluene has been verified to be suitable as the acceptor phase. Under the optimized HF-LPME conditions, the enrichment factors of five UV filters varying from 24 to 57 were achieved. The limits of detection for the five UV filters were in the range of 1-100 μg L-1 .The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of HF-LPME and HPLC analysis were lower than 5.2%.
