1Guidelines for evaluation and management of cerebral collateral circulation in ischaemic stroke 2017显示文摘Collateral circulation plays a vital role in sustaining blood flow to the ischaemic areas in acute,subacute or chronic phases after an ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack.Good collateral circulation has shown protective effects towards a favourable functional outcome and a lower risk of recurrence in stroke attributed to different aetiologies or undergoing medical or endovascular treatment.Over the past decade,the importance of collateral circulation has attracted more attention and is becoming a hot spot for research.However,the diversity in imaging methods and criteria to evaluate collateral circulation has hindered comparisons of findings from different cohorts and further studies in exploring the clinical relevance of collateral circulation and possible methods to enhance collateral flow.The statement is aimed to update currently available evidence and provide evidence-based recommendations regarding grading methods for collateral circulation,its significance in patients with stroke and methods under investigation to improve collateral flow.Liping Liu Jing Ding Xinyi Leng Yuehua Pu Li-An Huang Anding Xu Ka Sing Lawrence Wong Xin Wang Yongjun Wang 2018Stroke & Vascular Neurology2018,3,3:37
2Chinese progress in geomorphometry显示文摘Geomorphometry,the science of digital terrain analysis(DTA),is an important focus of research in both geomorphology and geographical information science(GIS).Given that 70% of China is mountainous,geomorphological research is popular among Chinese scholars,and the development of GIS over the last 30 years has led to significant advances in geomorphometric research.In this paper,we review Chinese progress in geomorphometry based on the published literature.There are three major areas of progress:digital terrain modelling methods,DTA methods,and applications of digital terrain models(DTMs).First,traditional vector-and raster-based terrain modelling methods,including the assessment of uncertainty,have received widespread attention.New terrain modelling methods such as unified raster and vector,high-fidelity,and real-time dynamic geographical scene modelling have also attracted research attention and are now a major focus of digital terrain modelling research.Second,in addition to the popular DTA methods based on topographical derivatives,geomorphological features,and hydrological factors extracted from DTMs,DTA methods have been extended to include analyses of the structure of underlying strata,ocean surface features and even socioeconomic spatial structures.Third,DTMs have been applied to fields including global climate change,analysis of various typical regions,lunar surface and other related fields.Clearly,Chinese scholars have made significant progress in geomorphometry.Chinese scholars have had the greatest international impact in areas including high-fidelity digital terrain modelling and DTM-based regional geomorphological analysis,particularly in the Loess Plateau and the Tibetan Plateau regions.LV Guonian XIONG Liyang CHEN Min TANG Guoan SHENG Yehua LIU Xuejun SONG Zhiyao LU Yuqi YU Zhaoyuan ZHANG Ka WANG Meizhen 2017Journal of Geographical Sciences2017,27,11:14
3Epac2-deficiency leads to more severe retinal swelling, glial reactivity and oxidative stress in transient middle cerebral artery occlusion induced ischemic retinopathy显示文摘Ischemia occurs in diabetic retinopathy with neuronal loss, edema, glial cell reactivity and oxidative stress. Epacs, consisting of Epac1 and Epac2, are c AMP mediators playing important roles in maintenance of endothelial barrier and neuronal functions. To investigate the roles of Epacs in the pathogenesis of ischemic retinopathy, transient middle cerebral artery occlusion(t MCAO) was performed on Epac1-deficient(Epac1-/-) mice, Epac2-deficient(Epac2-/-) mice, and their wild type counterparts(Epac1+/+ and Epac2+/+). Two-hour occlusion and 22-hour reperfusion were conducted to induce ischemia/reperfusion injury to the retina. After t MCAO, the contralateral retinae displayed similar morphology between different genotypes. Neuronal loss, retinal edema and increase in immunoreactivity for aquaporin 4(AQP4), glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP), peroxiredoxin 6(Prx6) were observed in ipsilateral retinae. Epac2-/- ipsilateral retinae showed more neuronal loss in retinal ganglion cell layer, increased retinal thickness and stronger immunostaining of AQP4, GFAP, and Prx6 than those of Epac2+/+. However, Epac1-/- ipsilateral retinae displayed similar pathology as those in Epac1+/+ mice. 4First observation of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide from the Environmental Trace Gases Monitoring Instrument onboard the GaoFen-5 satellite显示文摘The Environmental Trace Gases Monitoring Instrument(EMI)is the first Chinese satellite-borne UV–Vis spectrometer aiming to measure the distribution of atmospheric trace gases on a global scale.The EMI instrument onboard the GaoFen-5 satellite was launched on 9 May 2018.In this paper,we present the tropospheric nitrogen dioxide(NO2)vertical column density(VCD)retrieval algorithm dedicated to EMI measurement.We report the first successful retrieval of tropospheric NO_(2) VCD from the EMI instrument.Our retrieval improved the original EMI NO_(2) prototype algorithm by modifying the settings of the spectral fit and air mass factor calculations to account for the on-orbit instrumental performance changes.The retrieved EMI NO_(2) VCDs generally show good spatiotemporal agreement with the satellite-borne Ozone Monitoring Instrument and TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument(correlation coefficient R of ~0.9,bias<50%).A comparison with ground-based MAX-DOAS(Multi-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy)observations also shows good correlation with an R of 0.82.The results indicate that the EMI NO_(2) retrieval algorithm derives reliable and precise results,and this algorithm can feasibly produce stable operational products that can contribute to global air pollution monitoring.Chengxin Zhang Cheng Liu Ka Lok Chan Qihou Hu Haoran Liu Bo Li Chengzhi Xing Wei Tan Haijin Zhou Fuqi Si Jianguo Liu 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:11

8Cell cycle-related kinase reprograms the liver immune microenvironment to promote cancer metastasis显示文摘The liver is an immunologically tolerant organ and a common metastatic site of multiple cancer types.Although a role for cancer cell invasion programs has been well characterized,whether and how liver-intrinsic factors drive metastatic spread is incompletely understood.Here,we show that aberrantly activated hepatocyte-intrinsic cell cycle-related kinase(CCRK)signaling in chronic liver diseases is critical for cancer metastasis by reprogramming an immunosuppressive microenvironment.Using an inducible liverspecific transgenic model,we found that CCRK overexpression dramatically increased both B16F10 melanoma and MC38 colorectal cancer(CRC)metastasis to the liver,which was highly infiltrated by polymorphonuclear-myeloid-derived suppressor cells(PMNMDSCs)and lacking natural killer T(NKT)cells.Depletion of PMN-MDSCs in CCRK transgenic mice restored NKT cell levels and their interferon gamma production and reduced liver metastasis to 2.7% and 0.7%(metastatic tumor weights)in the melanoma and CRC models,respectively.Mechanistically,CCRK activated nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)signaling to increase the PMN-MDSC trafficking chemokine C-X-C motif ligand 1(CXCL1),which was positively correlated with liver-infiltrating PMN-MDSC levels in CCRK transgenic mice.Accordingly,CRC liver metastasis patients exhibited hyperaaivation of hepatic CCRK/NF-κB/CXCL1 signaling,which was associated with accumulation of PMN-MDSCs and paucity of NKT cells compared to healthy liver transplantation donors.In summary,this study demonstrates that immunosuppressive reprogramming by hepatic CCRK signaling undermines antimetastatic immunosurveillance.Our findings offer new mechanistic insights and therapeutic targets for liver metastasis intervention.Xuezhen Zeng Jingying Zhou Zhewen Xiong Hanyong Sun Weiqin Yang Myth T.S.Mok Jing Wang Jingqing Li Man Liu Wenshu Tang Yu Feng Hector Kwong-Sang W ang Shun-Wa Tsang King-Lau Chow Philip Chun Yeung John Wong Paul Bo-San Lai Anthony Wing-Hung Chan Ka Fai To Stephen Lam Chan Qiang Xia Jing Xue Xiao Chen Jun Yu Sui Peng Joseph Jao-Yiu Sung Ming Kuang Alfred Sze-Lok Cheng 2021Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,4:5
9Oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Microbiota profiles differ between patients with pancreatic cancer and healthy people,and understanding these differences may help in early detection of pancreatic cancer.Saliva sampling is an easy and cost-effective way to determine microbiota profiles compared to fecal and tissue sample collection.AIM To investigate the saliva microbiome distribution in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PDAC)and the role of oral microbiota profiles in detection and risk prediction of pancreatic cancer.METHODS We conducted a prospective study of patients with pancreatic cancer(n=41)and healthy individuals(n=69).Bacterial taxa were identified by 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid gene sequencing,and a linear discriminant analysis effect size algorithm was used to identify differences in taxa.Operational taxonomic unit values of all selected taxa were converted into a normalized Z-score,and logistic regressions were used to calculate risk prediction of pancreatic cancer.RESULTS Compared with the healthy control group,carriage of Streptococcus and Leptotrichina(z-score)was associated with a higher risk of PDAC[odds ratio(OR)=5.344,95%confidence interval(CI):1.282-22.282,P=0.021 and OR=6.886,95%CI:1.423-33.337,P=0.016,respectively].Veillonella and Neisseria(z-score)were considered a protective microbe that decreased the risk of PDAC(OR=0.187,95%CI:0.055-0.631,P=0.007 and OR=0.309,95%CI:0.100-0.952,P=0.041,respectively).Among the patients with PDAC,patients reporting bloating have a higher abundance of Porphyromonas(P=0.039),Fusobacterium(P=0.024),and Alloprevotella(P=0.041);while patients reporting jaundice had a higher amount of Prevotella(P=0.008);patients reporting dark brown urine had a higher amount of Veillonella(P=0.035).Patients reporting diarrhea had a lower amount of Neisseria and Campylobacter(P=0.024 and P=0.034),and patients reporting vomiting had decreased Alloprevotella(P=0.036).CONCLUSION Saliva microbiome was able to distinguish patients with pancreatic cancer and healthy individuals.Leptotrichia may be specific for patients living in Sichuan Province,southwest China.Symptomatic patients had different bacteria profiles than asymptomatic patients.Combined symptom and microbiome evaluation may help in the early detection of pancreatic cancer.Ai-Lin Wei Mao Li Guo-Qing Li Xuan Wang Wei-Ming Hu Zhen-Lu Li Jue Yuan Hong-Ying Liu Li-Li Zhou Ka Li Ang Li Mei Rosemary Fu 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,48:4
10Basal internode elongation of rice as affected by light intensity and leaf area显示文摘Short basal internodes are important for lodging resistance of rice(Oryza sativa L.).Several canopy indices affect the elongation of basal internodes,but uncertainty as to the key factors determining elongation of basal internodes persists.The objectives of this study were(1)to identify key factors affecting the elongation of basal internodes and(2)to establish a quantitative relationship between basal internode length and canopy indices.An inbred rice cultivar,Yinjingruanzhan,was grown in two split-plot field experiments with three N rates(0,75,and 150 kg N ha−1 in early season and 0,90,and 180 kg N ha−1 in late season)as main plots,three seedling densities(16.7,75.0,and 187.5 seedlings m−2)as subplots,and three replications in the 2015 early and late seasons in Guangzhou,China.Light intensity at base of canopy(Lb),light quality as determined from red/far-red light ratio(R/FR),light transmission ratio(LTR),leaf area index(LAI),leaf N concentration(NLV)and final length of second internode(counted from soil surface upward)(FIL)were recorded.Higher N rate and seedling density resulted in significantly longer FIL.FIL was negatively correlated with Lb,LTR,and R/FR(P<0.01)and positively correlated with LAI(P<0.01),but not correlated with NLV(P>0.05).Stepwise linear regression analysis showed that FIL was strongly associated with Lb and LAI(R2=0.82).Heavy N application to pot-grown rice at the beginning of first internode elongation did not change FIL.We conclude that FIL is determined mainly by Lb and LAI at jointing stage.NLV has no direct effect on the elongation of basal internodes.N application indirectly affects FIL by changing LAI and light conditions in the rice canopy.Reducing LAI and improving canopy light transmission at jointing stage can shorten the basal internodes and increase the lodging resistance of rice.Xuhua Zhong Kaiming Liang Bilin Peng Ka Tian Xiaojuan Li Nongrong Huang Yanzhuo Liu Junfeng Pan 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,1:3

12Identification of Sheep Ovary Genes Potentially Associated with Off-season Reproduction显示文摘Off-season reproduction is a favorable economic trait for sheep industry.Hu sheep,an indigenous Chinese sheep breed,demonstrates a higher productivity of lambs and displays year-around oestrous behavior under proper nutrition and environment.The genetic basis behind these traits,however,is not well understood.In order to identify genes associated with the off-season reproduction,we constructed a suppression subtractive hybridization(SSH) cDNA library using pooled ovary mRNAs of 6 oestrous Hu females as a tester and the pooled ovary mRNAs of 6 non-oestrous Chinese Merino females as a driver.A total of 382 resulting positive clones were obtained after the SSH.We identified 114 differentially up-regulated genes in oestrous Hu sheep by using subsequent screening and DNA sequencing,of which 8 were previously known,93 were reported for the first time in sheep,and 13 were novel with no significant homology to any sequence in the DNA databases.Functions of the genes identified are related to cell division,signal transduction,structure,metabolism,or cell defense.To validate the results of SSH,6 genes(Ntrk2,Ppap2b,Htra1,Nid1,Serpine2 and Foxola) were selected for conformational analysis using quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR),and two of them(Htral and Foxola) were verified by Northern blot.All of the 6 genes were differentially up-regulated in the ovary of oestrous Hu.It is obvious that off-season reproduction is a complex trait involving multiple genes in multiple organs.This study helps to provide a foundation for the final identification of functional genes involved in the sheep ovary.Lei Chen Ka Liu Zongsheng Zhao Hugh T.Blair Peng Zhang Daquan Li Runlin Z.Ma 2012Journal of Genetics and Genomics2012,39,4:3

17Toward Carbon-Neutral Water Systems:Insights from Global Cities显示文摘Many cities have pledged to achieve carbon neutrality.The urban water industry can also contribute its share to a carbon-neutral future.Using a multi-city time-series analysis approach,this study aims to assess the progress and lessons learned from the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions management of urban water systems in four global cities:Amsterdam,Melbourne,New York City,and Tokyo.These cities are advanced in setting GHG emissions reduction targets and reporting GHG emissions in their water industries.All four cities have reduced the GHG emissions in their water industries,compared with those from more than a decade ago(i.e.,the latest three-year moving averages are 13%–32%lower),although the emissions have“rebounded”multiple times over the years.The emissions reductions were mainly due to various engineering opportunities such as solar and mini-hydro power generation,biogas valorization,sludge digestion and incineration optimization,and aeration system optimization.These cities have recognized the many challenges in reaching carbon-neutrality goals,which include fluctuating water demand and rainfall,more carbon-intensive flood-prevention and water-supply strategies,meeting new air and water quality standards,and revising GHG emissions accounting methods.This study has also shown that it is difficult for the water industry to achieve carbon neutrality on its own.A collaborative approach with other sectors is needed when aiming toward the city’s carbon-neutrality goal.Such an approach involves expanding the usual system boundary of the water industry to externally tap into both engineering and non-engineering opportunities.Ka Leung Lam Gang Liu Anne Marieke Motelica-Wagenaar Jan Peter van der Hoek 2022Engineering2022,8,7:2
18Risk stratification in symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic disease with conventional vascular risk factors and cerebral haemodynamics显示文摘Background and purpose Symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(sICAS)is associated with a considerable risk of recurrent stroke despite contemporarily optimal medical treatment.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS and its haemodynamic significance quantified with computational fluid dynamics(CFD)models were associated with the risk of stroke recurrence.We aimed to develop and compare stroke risk prediction nomograms in sICAS,based on vascular risk factors and these metrics.Methods Patients with 50%-99%sICAS confirmed in CT angiography(CTA)were enrolled.Conventional vascular risk factors were collected.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS was dichotomised as moderate(50%-69%)and severe(70%-99%).Translesional pressure ratio(PR)and wall shear stress ratio(WSSR)were quantified via CTA-based CFD modelling;the haemodynamic status of sICAS was classified as normal(normal PR&WSSR),intermediate(otherwise)and abnormal(abnormal PR&WSSR).All patients received guideline-recommended medical treatment.We developed and compared performance of nomograms composed of these variables and independent predictors identified in multivariate logistic regression,in predicting the primary outcome,recurrent ischaemic stroke in the same territory(SIT)within 1 year.Results Among 245 sICAS patients,20(8.2%)had SIT.The D2H2A nomogram,incorporating diabetes,dyslipidaemia,haemodynamic status of sICAS,hypertension and age≥50 years,showed good calibration(P for Hosmer-Lemeshow test=0.560)and discrimination(C-statistic 0.73,95%CI 0.60 to 0.85).It also had better performance in risk reclassification and provided larger net benefits in decision curve analysis,compared with nomograms composed of conventional vascular risk factors only,and plus the severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS.Sensitivity analysis in patients with anterior-circulation sICAS showed similar results.Conclusions The D2H2A nomogram,incorporating conventional vascular risk factors and the haemodynamic significance of sICAS as assessed in CFD models,could be a useful tool to stratify sICAS patients for the risk of recurrent stroke under contemporarily optimal medical treatment.Xuan Tian Hui Fang Linfang Lan Hing Lung Ip Jill Abrigo Haipeng Liu Lina Zheng Florence S Y Fan Sze Ho Ma Bonaventure Ip Bo Song Yuming Xu Jingwei Li Bing Zhang Yun Xu Yannie O Y Soo Vincent Mok Ka Sing Wong Thomas W Leung Xinyi Leng 2023Stroke & Vascular Neurology2023,8,1:2
19A murine model for human immune thrombocytopenic purpura and comparative analysis of multiple gene expression in bone marrow and spleen显示文摘Homeostasis of platelet number in human and other mammals is well maintained for prevention of minor bleeding and for other immunological functions,but the exact molecular mechanism responsible for immune thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP) has not been fully understood.In an effort to identify genetic factors involved in initiation of platelet production in response to bleeding injury or platelet destruction,we have successfully generated an animal model of human ITP via intraperitoneal injection of anti-platelet antibody into the Balb/c mouse.Platelet counts were dropped dramatically in animals that received antibody injection within 4 h,maintained at the mini-mum level for a period of 44 h,started to rebound after 48 h,and reached to the maximum at 144 h(6 days).Final homeostasis reached at approximately 408 h(17 days),following a minor cycle of platelet number fluctuation.Using semi-quantitative RT-PCR,we assessed and compared mRNA level of CD41,c-myb,c-mpl,caspase-3,caspase-9,GATA-1,and Bcl-xl in bone marrow and spleen.Alteration of mRNA expression was correlated with the change of platelet level,and an inverse relationship was found for expression of the genes between bone marrow and spleen.No transcription was detectable for any of the seven genes in bone marrow at the time when platelet number reached the maximum(144 h).In contrast,mRNA transcripts of the seven genes were found to be at the highest level in spleen tissue.This is the first study of simultaneous detection of multiple platelet related genes in a highly reproducible ITP animal model.Our results provided the supportive evidence that expression of the above seven genes are more related to negative regulation of platelet number in spleen tissue,at least in the model animals.Hong Wei Xinchun Ding Jiangong Ren Ka Liu Pingping Tan Daquan Li Runlin Z.
