| 1 | Arctic Sea Ice and Eurasian Climate:A Review显示文摘The Arctic plays a fundamental role in the climate system and has shown significant climate change in recent decades,including the Arctic warming and decline of Arctic sea-ice extent and thickness. In contrast to the Arctic warming and reduction of Arctic sea ice, Europe, East Asia and North America have experienced anomalously cold conditions, with record snowfall during recent years. In this paper, we review current understanding of the sea-ice impacts on the Eurasian climate.Paleo, observational and modelling studies are covered to summarize several major themes, including: the variability of Arctic sea ice and its controls; the likely causes and apparent impacts of the Arctic sea-ice decline during the satellite era,as well as past and projected future impacts and trends; the links and feedback mechanisms between the Arctic sea ice and the Arctic Oscillation/North Atlantic Oscillation, the recent Eurasian cooling, winter atmospheric circulation, summer precipitation in East Asia, spring snowfall over Eurasia, East Asian winter monsoon, and midlatitude extreme weather; and the remote climate response(e.g., atmospheric circulation, air temperature) to changes in Arctic sea ice. | 2 | Ground settlement of Chek Lap Kok Airport,Hong Kong,detected by satellite synthetic aperture radar interferometry显示文摘Satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) inter-ferometry is used to investigate the slowly accumulating ground settlement at the new Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong. Most of the land occupied by the airport was reclaimed from the sea and therefore certain ground settlement in the area has been expected. A pair of ERS-2 SAR images spanning nearly a year is used in the study. The high spatial resolution (20 m×20 m) ground settlement map derived indicates that the settlement that occurred in the area over the time period is as large as 50 mm. The SAR measurement results agree with the levelling measurements at some benchmarks in the area to well within 1 cm(rms error),and the overall correlation between the two types of results is 0.89. | 3 | Overexpression of the tonoplast aquaporin AtTIP5;1 conferred tolerance to boron toxicity in Arabidopsis显示文摘Boron (B) toxicity to plants is responsible for low crop productivity in many regions of the world. Here we report a novel and effective means to alleviate the B toxicity to plants under high B circumstance. Functional characterization of AtTIP5;1, an aquaporin gene, re-vealed that overexpression of AtTIP5;1 (OxAtTIP5;1) in Arabidopsis significantly increased its tolerance to high B toxicity. Compared to wild-type plants, OxAtTIP5;1 plants exhibited longer hypocotyls, accelerated development, increased silique production under high B treatments. GUS staining and quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) results demonstrated that the expression of AtTIP5;1 was induced by high B concentration treatment. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that the AtTIP5;1-GFP fusion protein was localized on the tonoplast membrane, which was consistent with the prediction based on bioinformatics. | 4 | The responses of East Asian Summer monsoon to the North Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation in an enhanced freshwater input simulation显示文摘We investigated the response of the East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) to a weakened Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and its mechanism in an enhanced freshwater input experiment (FW) by using a fully-coupled climate model. The response was a weakened EASM and the mechanisms can be explained as follows. The simulated weakened AMOC resulted in a drop in sea surface temperature (SST) in the North Atlantic (NA) and, correspondingly, an anomalous high sea level pressure (SLP) over the North American regions, which in turn increased the northeast surface winds across the equator in the eastern tropical Pacific (ETP). The anomalous northeast winds then induced further upwelling in the ETP and stronger air/sea heat exchange, therefore leading to an anomalous cooling of the eastern tropical sea surface. As a result, the climatologic Hadley Circulation (HC) was weakened due to an anomalous stronger sinking of air in the ETP north of the equator, whereas the Walker Circulation (WC) in the western tropical Pacific (WTP) north of the equator was strengthened with an eastward-shifted upwelling branch. This feature was in agreement with the anomalous convergent winds in the WTP, and led to a weakened EASM and less East Asian summer precipitation (EASP). | 5 | WIP1 Phosphatase Plays a Critical Neuroprotective Role in Brain Injury Induced by High-Altitude Hypoxic Inflammation显示文摘The hypobaric hypoxic environment in highaltitude areas often aggravates the severity of inflammation and induces brain injury as a consequence. However, the critical genes regulating this process remain largely unknown. The phosphatase wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1(WIP1) plays important roles in various physiological and pathological processes, including the regulation of inflammation in normoxia, but its functions in hypoxic inflammation-induced brain injury remain unclear.Here, we established a mouse model of this type of injury and found that WIP1 deficiency augmented the release of inflammatory cytokines in the peripheral circulation and brain tissue, increased the numbers of activated microglia/macrophages in the brain, aggravated cerebral histological lesions, and exacerbated the impairment of motor and cognitive abilities. | 6 | Teleconnection between Sea Ice in the Barents Sea in June and the Silk Road,Pacific–Japan and East Asian Rainfall Patterns in August显示文摘In contrast to previous studies that have tended to focus on the influence of the total Arctic sea-ice cover on the East Asian summer tripole rainfall pattern, the present study identifies the Barents Sea as the key region where the June sea-ice variability exerts the most significant impacts on the East Asian August tripole rainfall pattern, and explores the teleconnection mechanisms involved. The results reveal that a reduction in June sea ice excites anomalous upward air motion due to strong near-surface thermal forcing, which further triggers a meridional overturning wave-like pattern extending to midlatitudes.Anomalous downward motion therefore forms over the Caspian Sea, which in turn induces zonally oriented overturning circulation along the subtropical jet stream, exhibiting the east–west Rossby wave train known as the Silk Road pattern. It is suggested that the Bonin high, a subtropical anticyclone predominant near South Korea, shows a significant anomaly due to the eastward extension of the Silk Road pattern to East Asia. As a possible descending branch of the Hadley cell, the Bonin high anomaly ultimately triggers a meridional overturning, establishing the Pacific–Japan pattern. This in turn induces an anomalous anticyclone and cyclone pair over East Asia, and a tripole vertical convection anomaly meridionally oriented over East Asia. Consequently, a tripole rainfall anomaly pattern is observed over East Asia. | 7 | OTOTOXIC MODEL OF OXALIPLATIN AND PROTECTION FROM NICOTINAMIDE ADENINE DINUCLEOTIDE显示文摘Oxaliplatin,an anticancer drug commonly used to treat colorectal cancer and other tumors,has a number of serious side effects,most notably neuropathy and ototoxicity.To gain insights into its ototoxic profile,oxaliplatin was applied to rat cochlear organ cultures.Consistent with it neurotoxic propensity,oxaliplatin selectively damaged nerve fibers at a very low dose 1μM.In contrast,the dose required to damage hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons was 50 fold higher(50μM).Oxailiplatin-induced cochlear lesions initially increased with dose,but unexpectedly decreased at very high doses.This non-linear dose response could be related to depressed oxaliplatin uptake via active transport mechanisms.Previous studies have demonstrated that axonal degeneration involves biologically active processes which can be greatly attenuated by nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD+).To determine if NAD+would protect spiral ganglion axons and the hair cells from oxaliplatin damage,cochlear cultures were treated with oxaliplatin alone at doses of 10μM or 50μM respectively as controls or combined with 20 mM NAD+.Treatment with 10μM oxaliplatin for 48 hours resulted in minor damage to auditory nerve fibers,but spared cochlear hair cells.However,when cochlear cultures were treated with 10μM oxaliplatin plus 20 mM NAD+,most auditory nerve fibers were intact.50μM oxaliplatin destroyed most of spiral ganglion neurons and cochlear hair cells with apoptotic characteristics of cell fragmentations.However,50μM oxaliplatin plus 20 mM NAD+treatment greatly reduced neuronal degenerations and hair cell missing.The results suggested that NAD+provides significant protection against oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity and ototoxicity,which may be due to its actions of antioxidant,antiapoptosis,and energy supply. | DING Dalian JIANG Haiyan FU Yong LI Yongqi Richard Salvi Shinichi Someya Masaru Tanokura | 2013 | Journal of Otology2013,8,1: | 9 |

| 9 | A High-Resolution Earth’s Gravity Field Model SGG-UGM-2 from GOCE,GRACE,Satellite Altimetry,and EGM2008显示文摘This paper focuses on estimating a new high-resolution Earth’s gravity field model named SGG-UGM-2 from satellite gravimetry,satellite altimetry,and Earth Gravitational Model 2008(EGM2008)-derived gravity data based on the theory of the ellipsoidal harmonic analysis and coefficient transformation(EHA-CT).We first derive the related formulas of the EHA-CT method,which is used for computing the spherical harmonic coefficients from grid area-mean and point gravity anomalies on the ellipsoid.The derived formulas are successfully evaluated based on numerical experiments.Then,based on the derived least-squares formulas of the EHA-CT method,we develop the new model SGG-UGM-2 up to degree 2190 and order 2159 by combining the observations of the Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer(GOCE),the normal equation of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE),marine gravity data derived from satellite altimetry data,and EGM2008-derived continental gravity data.The coefficients of degrees 251–2159 are estimated by solving the block-diagonal form normal equations of surface gravity anomalies(including the marine gravity data).The coefficients of degrees 2–250 are determined by combining the normal equations of satellite observations and surface gravity anomalies.The variance component estimation technique is used to estimate the relative weights of different observations.Finally,global positioning system(GPS)/leveling data in the mainland of China and the United States are used to validate SGG-UGM-2 together with other models,such as European improved gravity model of the earth by new techniques(EIGEN)-6C4,GECO,EGM2008,and SGG-UGM-1(the predecessor of SGG-UGM-2).Compared to other models,the model SGG-UGM-2 shows a promising performance in the GPS/leveling validation.All GOCE-related models have similar performances both in the mainland of China and the United States,and better performances than that of EGM2008 in the mainland of China.Due to the contribution of GRACE data and the new marine gravity anomalies,SGG-UGM-2 is slightly better than SGG-UGM-1 both in the mainland of China and the United States. | Wei Liang Jiancheng Li Xinyu Xu Shengjun Zhang Yongqi Zhao | 2020 | Engineering2020,6,8: | 8 |
| 10 | The spatial pattern of grassland aboveground biomass on Xizang Plateau and its climatic controls显示文摘Aims Grassland is the most widely distributed vegetation type on the Xizang Plateau.Accurate remote sensing estimation of the grass-land aboveground biomass(AGB)in this region is influenced by the types of vegetation indexes(VIs)used,the grain size(resolution)of the remote sensing data and the targeted ecosystem features.This study attempts to answer the following questions:(i)Which VI can most accurately reflect the grassland AGB distribution on the Xizang Plateau?(ii)How does the grain size of remote sensing imagery affect AGB reflection?(iii)What is the spatial distribution pattern of the grassland AGB on the plateau and its relationship with the climate?Methods We investigated 90 sample sites and measured site-specific AGBs using the harvest method for three grassland types(alpine meadow,alpine steppe and desert steppe).For each sample site,four VIs,namely,Normalized Difference VI(NDVI),Enhanced VI,Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI)and Modified Soil-Adjusted VI(MSAVI)were extracted from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)products with grain sizes of 250 m and 1 km.Linear regression models were employed to iden-tify the best estimator of the AGB for the entire grassland and the three individual grassland types.Paired Wilcoxon tests were applied to assess the grain size effect on the AGB estimation.General linear models were used to quantify the relationships between the spatial distribution of the grassland AGB and climatic factors.Important Findings The results showed that the best estimator for the entire grass-land AGB on the Xizang Plateau was MSAVI at a 250 m grain size(MSAVI_(250 m)).For each individual grassland type,the best estimator was MSAVI at a grain size of 250 m for alpine meadow,NDWI at a grain size of 1 km for alpine steppe and NDVI at a grain size of 1 km for desert steppe.The explanation ability of each VI for the grassland AGB did not significantly differ for the two grain sizes.Based on the best fit model(AGB=−10.80+139.13 MSAVI_(250 m)),the spatial pattern of the grassland AGB on the plateau was characterized.The AGB varied from 1 to 136 g m^(−2).Approximately 59%of total spatial variation in the AGB for the entire grassland was explained by the combination of the mean annual precipitation(MAP)and mean annual temperature.The explanatory power of MAP was weaker for each individual grassland type than that for the entire grassland.This study illustrated the high efficiency of the VIs derived from MODIS data in the grassland AGB estimation on the Xizang Plateau due to the vegetation homogeneity within a 1×1 km pixel in this region.Furthermore,MAP is a primary driver on the spatial variation of AGB at a regional scale. | Yanbin Jiang Jian Tao Yongqi Huang Juntao Zhu Li Tian Yangjian Zhang | 2015 | Journal of Plant Ecology2015,8,1: | 6 |

| 12 | Genome re-sequencing analysis uncovers pathogenecity-related genes undergoing positive selection in Magnaporthe oryzae显示文摘Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae(M.oryzae) is one of the most destructive diseases,which causes significant rice yield losses and affects global food security.To better understand genetic variations among different isolates of M.oryzae in nature,we re-sequenced the genomes of two field isolates,CH43 and Zhong-10-8-14,which showed distinct pathogenecity on most of the rice cultivars.Genome-wide genetic variation analysis reveals that ZHONG-10-8-14 exhibits higher sequence variations than CH43.Structural variations(SVs) detection shows that the sequence variations primarily occur in exons and intergenic regions.Bioinformatics analysis for gene variations reveals that many pathogenecity-related pathways are enriched.In addition,193 candidate effectors with various DNA polymorphisms were identified,including two known effectors AVR-Pik and AVR-Pital.Comparative polymorphism analysis of thirteen randomly selected effectors suggests that the genetic variations of effectors are under positive selection.The expression pattern analysis of several pathogenecity-related variant genes indicates that these genes are differentially regulated in two isolates,with much higher expression levels in Zhong-10-8-14 than CH43.Our data demonstrate that the genetic variations of effectors and pathogenecity-related genes are under positive selection,resulting in the distinct pathogenicities of CH43 and Zhong-10-8-14 on rice. | Jidong Cao Yongqi Yu Junkai Huang Rui Liu Yan Chen Suiyan Li Jun Liu | 2017 | Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,8: | 6 |

The basic principle and key technologies of this system were presented and the system per- formance was also analyzed. Some methods and algorithms were proposed to preprocess and nor- malize the microscopic hyperspectral data and retrieve the transmittance spectrum of samples. As a case study, the microscopic hyperspectral imaging system was used to image the retina sections of different rats and get some significant results. | 15 | Effect of optimal combination of Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) on proliferation and apoptosis of A549 lung cancer cells显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of optimal combination(E) of Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) on proliferation and apoptosis of A549 lung cancer cells and the possible mechanism underpinning the action.METHODS: A uniform design method was used to optimize the E of Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) in A549 lung cancer cells. MTS assay was applied to analyze the effect of the component formula ofHuangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Curcumae Phaeocaulis) on A549 cells viability in various uniform design groups. A549 cells with exponential growth in routine culture were exposed to Co Cl_2(200 μmol/L) to mimic hypoxic conditions. Group 0 was treated with RPMI-1640, the group Co Cl_2 was treated with Co Cl_2(200 μmol/L),the group DDP + Co Cl_2 was treated with 4 mg/L Cisplatin injection(DDP) + Co Cl_2(200 μmol/L), and the drug group was treated with various dose of E(0.5 E, 1 E, 2 E) + Co Cl_2(200 μmol/L). All groups were cultured for 24 h. Cell apoptosis was measured by Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide double staining and flow cytometry. Western blot assay and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(q RT-PCR) were employed to detect the protein and m RNA expression of B-celllymphoma-2(Bcl-2),Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax) and cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase-3(caspase-3).RESULTS: The E obtained by the uniform design was comprise of 200 mg/L Astragalus polysaccharide(X1) and 32 mg/L Curcumin(X3). Group DDP+Co Cl_2, group 1 E + Co Cl_2 and group 2 E + Co Cl_2 promoted the apoptosis of A549 cells(P < 0.05). Group1 E + Co Cl_2 and group 2 E + Co Cl_2 had no statistically significant differences compared with the group DDP + Co Cl_2(P > 0.05). Compared with group 0, various doses of E + Co Cl_2 could up-regulate the expression of Bax and caspase-3 and down-regulate the expression of Bcl-2 at protein and m RNA levels(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Astragalus polysaccharide and Curcumin was the optimal combination of Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici) and Ezhu(Rhizoma Cur-cumae Phaeocaulis). E promoted the apoptosis of A549 cells. | 18 | Air–Sea Coupling Enhances the East Asian Winter Climate Response to the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation显示文摘A simple air–sea coupled model,the atmospheric general circulation model(AGCM) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction coupled to a mixed-layer slab ocean model,is employed to investigate the impact of air–sea coupling on the signals of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO). A regional coupling strategy is applied,in which coupling is switched off in the extratropical North Atlantic Ocean but switched on in the open oceans elsewhere. The coupled model is forced with warm-phase AMO SST anomalies,and the modeled responses are compared with those from parallel uncoupled AGCM experiments with the same SST forcing. The results suggest that the regionally coupled responses not only resemble the AGCM simulation,but also have a stronger intensity. In comparison,the coupled responses bear greater similarity to the observational composite anomaly. Thus,air–sea coupling enhances the responses of the East Asian winter climate to the AMO. To determine the mechanism responsible for the coupling amplification,an additional set of AGCM experiments,forced with the AMO-induced tropical SST anomalies,is conducted. The SST anomalies are extracted from the simulated AMO-induced SST response in the regionally coupled model. The results suggest that the SST anomalies contribute to the coupling amplification. | 19 | Analysis of the impact on the gravity field determination from the data with the ununiform noise distribution using block-diagonal least squares method显示文摘The block-diagonal least squares method, which theoretically has specific requirements for the observation data and the spatial distribution of its precision, plays an important role in ultra-high degree gravity field determination. On the basis of block-diagonal least squares method, three data processing strategies are employed to determine the gravity field models using three kinds of simulated global grid data with different noise spatial distribution in this paper. The numerical results show that when we employed the weight matrix corresponding to the noise of the observation data, the model computed by the least squares using the full normal matrix has much higher precision than the one estimated only using the block part of the normal matrix. The model computed by the block-diagonal least squares method without the weight matrix has slightly lower precision than the model computed using the rigorous least squares with the weight matrix. | 20 | Comparative transcriptome analysis of different heat stress responses between self-root grafting line and heterogeneous grafting line in rose显示文摘Rose is sensitive to high temperature which will make the rose go into a semi-dormancy state.Grafting is an excellent way to enhance rose heat tolerance.Here,heat-tolerant Rosa multiflora‘Huanong Wuci 1'(W)and heat-sensitive Rosa chinensis‘Old Blush’(X)were selected as experimental materials.The RNA-seq technique was used to investigate the transcriptomes of self-root grafting line(XX0),heterogeneous grafting line(XW0),self-root grafting line under 6 h heat stress(XX6),and heterogeneous grafting line under 6 h heat stress(XW6).Under high temperature stress,multiple signaling pathways were activated,moreover,a large number of transcription factors and functional genes were induced,especially the HSFs and HSPs with remarkably upregulated expression levels.The GO analysis showed that the differences in the expressions of the genes related to fatty acids and carbohydrates were observed between self-root grafting line and heterogeneous grafting line.In addition,14 P450s were differentially expressed,and one lectin gene was up-regulated in XW0 vs XW6,but down-regulated in XX0 vs XX6.Considering physiological and biochemical traits such as relative electrolyte leakage,SOD activity,proline,and total soluble sugars,DEGs involved in these processes may be key factors to resist high temperature.The present study provides an insight into the complex mechanism underlying grafting in response to heat stress.Our results indicate that grafting is an effective way to improve rose heat resistance. | Wenquan Qi Chunling Zhang Wenjing Wang Zhe Cao Song Li Hang Li Wan Zhu Yongqi Huang Manzhu Bao Yanhong He Riru Zheng | 2021 | Horticultural Plant Journal2021,7,3: | 3 |
