1Processing,Microstructures,and Mechanical Properties of Magnesium Matrix Composites:A Review显示文摘In the last two decades, light-weight magnesium matrix composites have been the hot issue of material field due to their excellent mechanical and physical properties, e.g., high-specific strength and modulus, good wear resistance, and damping capacity. As compared with aluminum matrix composites, magnesium matrix composites have merit in their specific weight and have wide applications in aerospace and aeronautical fields. Generally, the processing techniques for magnesium matrix composites can be categorized as conventional and special processing routes. In recent years, as a special processing route, metal melt infiltration into porous ceramic preform featured by its low cost and availability of high-volume fraction of reinforced ceramics have been receiving much attention. Thus, in this review, one emphasis was put on the description of this processing technique in association with the means to obtain good wettability, the prerequisite for this kind of processing method. Based on the recognized fact that there exist clean interface and bonding ability between ceramics and matrix metal, in-situ reaction synthesis is usually utilized to fabricate magnesium matrix composites.Therefore, the interfacial feature was also reviewed for the in-situ reaction synthesis. 2Human umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation for the treatment of chronic spinal cord injury Electrophysiological changes and long-term efficacy显示文摘Stem cell transplantation can promote functional restoration following acute spinal cord injury (injury time < 3 months), but the safety and long-term efficacy of this treatment need further exploration. In this study, 25 patients with traumatic spinal cord injury (injury time > 6 months) were treated with human umbilical cord blood stem cells via intravenous and intrathecal injection. The follow-up period was 12 months after transplantation. Results found that autonomic nerve functions were restored and the latent period of somatosensory evoked potentials was reduced. There were no severe adverse reactions in patients following stem cell transplantation. 3Processing of B_4C Particulate-reinforced Magnesium-matrix Composites by Metal-assisted Melt Infiltration Technique显示文摘In fabricating magnesium-matrix composites,an easy and cost-effective route is to infiltrate the ceramic preform with molten Mg without any external pressure.However,a rather well wettability of molten Mg with ceramic reinforcement is needed for this process.In order to improve the wettability of the metal melt with ceramic preform during fabricating composites by metal melt infiltration,a simple and viable method has been proposed in this paper where a small amount of metal powder with higher melting point is added to the ceramic preform such that the surface tension of the Mg melt and the liquid-solid interfacial tension could be reduced.By using this method,boron carbide particulate-reinforced magnesium-matrix composites(B4C/Mg)have been successfully fabricated where Ti powder immiscible with magnesium melt was introduced into B4 C preform as infiltration inducer.The infiltration ability of molten Mg to the ceramic preform was further studied in association with the processing conditions and the mechanism involved in this process was also analyzed.Yantao Yao Liqing Chen 2014Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,7:11
4Study on the α-cyclodextrin/poly(ethylene glycol) self-assembly supramolecular nanoparticles for drug delivery显示文摘This paper reports the synthesis and drug delivery properties of a novel supramolecular nanoparticle.α-Cyclodextrins(α-CD) were threaded on cinnamic acid modified poly(ethylene glycol) to form inclusion complex nanoparticles by supramolecular self-assemble.The anti-tumor drug doxorubicin was loaded in the nanoparticles and released in vitro to study the drug release behavior and the anti-tumor effects.The structure and morphology of the nanoparticles were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance,X-ray diffraction,ultraviolet absorbance,dynamic laser scattering,scanning electronic microscopy,transmission electron microscopy and atom force microscopy.The distribution of the drug loaded nanoparticles in cells and the anti-tumor effects were studied by confocal laser microscopy.The results demonstrate that the supramolecular nanoparticle is biocompatible and it is a promising carrier for drug delivery systems.LI Yuan,JI Li,WANG Gang,SONG LiQing,HE Bin,LI Li,NIE Yu,WU Yao & GU ZhongWei National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials,Sichuan University,Chengdu 610064,China 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,3:5
5Preparation and evaluation of a new releasable PEGylated tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) conjugate for therapeutic application显示文摘To design a releasable PEGylated TNF-α(rPEG-TNF-α ), a cathepsin B-sensitive dipeptide (Val-Cit moiety) was inserted into conventional PEG-modified TNF- (PEG-TNF- ), facilitating its clinical use for anti-tumor therapy. Comparative pharmaco- kinetic and pharmacodynamic studies showed that the half-lives of both PEGylated forms of TNF-α were ~60-fold greater than that of unmodified TNF-α . In addition, the in vitro bioactivity of rPEG-TNF-α was greater than that of PEG-TNF-α with the same degree of PEG modification. Release of TNF-α from rPEG-TNF-α in vitro was dependent on the presence of cathepsin B and was inhibited by a cathepsin B inhibitor. Despite the potent cytotoxicity of unmodified TNF-α against normal cells, its PEGylated forms at higher TNF-α concentrations showed low cytotoxic activity against these cells. In contrast, both forms of PEGylated TNF-α showed potent cytotoxic activity against the B16 and L929 cell lines, with rPEG-TNF-α being 5- and 9- fold more potent, respectively, than PEG-TNF-α . 6Stipa steppes in scantily explored regions of the tibetan Plateau:classification,community characteristics and climatic distribution patterns显示文摘Aims As a unique geographical unit of the earth,the tibetan Plateau is extensively covered by various Stipa communities.However,their vegetation features have not been reported systematically till now,especially in some scantily explored regions.In this study,we endeavor to reveal the community types,quantitative charac-teristics and climatic distribution patterns of Stipa steppes in these areas based on primary relevés obtained from fieldwork.Methods We collected a total of 223 plots in 79 study sites in the Changthang Plateau and the Yarlung Zangbo Valley,ranging from 79°E to 91°E.the categories of Stipa formations were identified according to the classification scheme in Vegetation of China and then verified by Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling.We performed detrended correspondence analysis and detrended canonical correspondence analysis to hunt for the alteration of Stipa communities along the precipitation gradient.Quantitative characteristics including species richness,coverage,biomass as well as importance values(IV)of dominant species were calcu-lated and visualized,respectively.Important Findings Stipa steppes in scantily explored regions of the tibetan Plateau are classified into 11 formations but major formations are rather limited in number.Formation(form.)Stipa purpurea is the most widespread Stipa assemblages not only in scantily explored regions but also across the whole tibetan Plateau.the characteristics of Stipa com-munities,including coverage,species richness,productivity and IV of dominant species,demonstrate the features of typical alpine steppes on the tibetan Plateau.Precipitation proves to be the prime climatic factor controlling the distribution patterns of Stipa assemblages.Form.Stipa subsessiliflora var.basiplumosa and form.Stipa glareosa normally distribute in arid habitats,but rainfall for the former is of greater variance.Form.Stipa roborowskyi and form.Stipa capillacea favor moderately moist environment.Form.Stipa purpurea and form.Stipa roborowskyi can tolerate a fairly broad range of precipitation.Haiwei Zhao Ke Guo Yao Yang Changcheng Liu Liqing Zhao Xianguo Qiao Dongjie Hou Chenguang Gao 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,4:4

8High-temperature Oxidation Behavior of a High Manganese Austenitic Steel Fe–25Mn–3Cr–3Al–0.3C–0.01N显示文摘In this paper, a Fe–Mn–Al–C austenitic steel with certain addition of Cr and N alloy was used as experimental material. By using the SETSYS Evolution synchronous differential thermal analysis apparatus, the scanning electron microscope(SEM), the electron microprobe(EPMA) and the X-ray diffraction(XRD), the high-temperature oxidation behavior microstructure and the phase compositions of this steel in air at 600–1,000 °C for 8 h have been studied. The results show that in the whole oxidation temperature range, there are three distinct stages in the mass gain curves at temperature higher than 800 °C and the oxidation process can be divided into two stages at temperature lower than 800 °C.At the earlier stage the gain rate of the weight oxidized in temperature range of 850 °C to 1,000 °C are extremely lower.The oxidation products having different surface microstructures and phase compositions were produced in oxidation reaction at different temperatures. The phase compositions of oxide scale formed at 1,000 °C are composed of Fe and Mn oxide without Cr. 93D bioprinting of a biomimetic meniscal scaffold for application in tissue engineering显示文摘Appropriate biomimetic scaffolds created via 3D bioprinting are promising methods for treating damaged menisci.However,given the unique anatomical structure and complex stress environment of the meniscus,many studies have adopted various techniques to take full advantage of different materials,such as the printing combined with infusion,or electrospining,to chase the biomimetic meniscus,which makes the process complicated to some extent.Some researchers have tried to tackle the challenges only by 3D biopringting,while its alternative materials and models have been constrained.In this study,based on a multilayer biomimetic strategy,we optimized the preparation of meniscus-derived bioink,gelatin methacrylate(GelMA)/meniscal extracellular matrix(MECM),to take printability and cytocompatibility into account together.Subsequently,a customized 3D bioprinting system featuring a dual nozzle+multitemperature printing was used to integrate the advantages of polycaprolactone(PCL)and meniscal fibrocartilage chondrocytes(MFCs)-laden GelMA/MECM bioink to complete the biomimetic meniscal scaffold,which had the best biomimetic features in terms of morphology and components.Furthermore,cell viability,mechanics,biodegradation and tissue formation in vivo were performed to ensure that the scaffold had sufficient feasibility and functionality,thereby providing a reliable basis for its application in tissue engineering.Zhou Jian Tian Zhuang Tian Qinyu Peng Liqing Li Kun Luo Xujiang Wang Diaodiao Yang Zhen Jiang Shuangpeng Sui Xiang Huang Jingxiang Liu Shuyun Hao Libo Tang Peifu Yao Qi Guo Quanyi 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,6:3

11Functional isolation,culture and cryopreservation of adult human primary cardiomyocytes显示文摘Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death globally.Accurately modeling cardiac homeostasis,dysfunction,and drug response lies at the heart of cardiac research.Adult human primary cardiomyocytes(hPCMs)are a promising cellular model,but unstable isolation efficiency and quality,rapid cell death in culture,and unknown response to cryopreservation prevent them from becoming a reliable and flexible in vitro cardiac model.Combing the use of a reversible inhibitor of myosinⅡATPase,(-)-blebbistatin(Bleb),and multiple optimization steps of the isolation procedure,we achieved a 2.74-fold increase in cell viability over traditional methods,accompanied by better cellular morphology,minimally perturbed gene expression,intact electrophysiology,and normal neurohormonal signaling.Further optimization of culture conditions established a method that was capable of maintaining optimal cell viability,morphology,and mitochondrial respiration for at least 7 days.Most importantly,we successfully cryopreserved hPCMs,which were structurally,molecularly,and functionally intact after undergoing the freeze-thaw cycle.hPCMs demonstrated greater sensitivity towards a set of cardiotoxic drugs,compared to human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes(hiPSC-CMs).Further dissection of cardiomyocyte drug response at both the population and single-cell transcriptomic level revealed that hPCM responses were more pronouncedly enriched in cardiac function,whereas hiPSC-CMs responses reflected cardiac development.Together,we established a full set of methodologies for the efficient isolation and prolonged maintenance of functional primary adult human cardiomyocytes in vitro,unlocking their potential as a cellular model for cardiovascular research,drug discovery,and safety pharmacology.Bingying Zhou Xun Shi Xiaoli Tang Quanyi Zhao Le Wang Fang Yao Yongfeng Hou Xianqiang Wang Wei Feng Liqing Wang Xiaogang Sun Li Wang Shengshou Hu 2022Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,8:1

17Bio‐inspired spontaneous splitting of underwater bubbles along a superhydrophobic open pathway without perturbation显示文摘Bubbles are pervasive in aqueous media,and on account of numerous advantages of tiny bubbles,efficient bubble splitting is favorable in a wide range of applications.However,underwater bubble splitting faces a lot of challenges because bubbles tend to coalesce during the rising due to the action of buoyancy and surface energy,and the consumption of considerable external energy is needed.Inspired by the bubble bursting phenomenon on the feathers of high‐speed swimming penguins,we proposed a new bubble splitting strategy based on the energy conversion of bubble transportation on superhydrophobic open pathways.A porous superhydrophobic coating was first developed via a bubbletemplate assisted fabrication method,which provides hierarchical micro/nanostructures and robust air plastron.Gas bubbles can transport along the superhydrophobic open pathways without perturbation,and split into smaller ones by taking advantage of the potential energy contributed by buoyancy.By controlling the superhydrophobic pathway,the size of the split bubbles can be controlled precisely.We also demonstrated that a bubble splitting device could be applied in underwater reactions where an enhanced gas−liquid mass transfer is desired.This bubble splitting strategy may offer new prospects for underwater bubble manipulation and unfold a potential in many bubble‐involved fields.Xin Li Jianqiang Zhang Xuejiao Wang Dong Lv Chunyan Cao Liqing Ai Xi Yao 2022Droplet2022,1,1:0
18Re-evaluation of indications and outcomes of endoscopic excision procedures for colorectal tumors:a review显示文摘Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)and endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)are useful therapeutic techniques for colorectal tumors.Currently,new techniques based on these procedures are available,such as endoscopic submucosal dissection with snare(ESD-S)and endoscopic mucosal resection with pre-cutting(EMR-P).For the excision of colorectal tumors,each of these techniques has been characterized as having a high total resection rate,low recurrence rate or low complication rate.In this study,we analysed clinical trials that had recently been published,to search for the most appropriate endoscopic treatment for colorectal tumors.Our search results revealed the following:for a tumor with a diameter less than 20mm,the surgeon should choose ESD,ESD-S,EMR-P or EMR,depending on the condition of the tumor.On the other hand,to excise a tumor larger than 20mm in diameter,ESD and ESD-S should be the first choices.However,if the patient has a high risk of complications due to ESD or ESD-S,the use of EMR-P would be suitable.Because of the high possibility of canceration in a tumor larger than 20mm in diameter,EMR is not the optimal endoscopic treatment for the excision of a colorectal tumor,due to a low total resection rate and a high recurrence rate.Shilun Cai Yunshi Zhong Pinghong Zhou Jianmin Xu Liqing Yao 2014Gastroenterology Report2014,2,1:0
