1miR-145 improves metabolic inflammatory disease through multiple pathways显示文摘Chronic inflammation plays a pivotal role in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes,yet the mechanisms are not completely understood.Here,we demonstrated that serum LPS levels were significantly higher in newly diagnosed diabetic patients than in normal control.miR-145 level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells decreased in type 2 diabetics.LPS repressed the transcription of miR-143/145 cluster and decreased miR-145 levels.Attenuation of miR-145 activity by anti-miR-145 triggered liver inflammation and increased serum chemokines in C57BL/6 J mice.Conversely,lentivirus-mediated miR-145 overexpression inhibited macrophage infiltration,reduced body weight,and improved glucose metabolism in db/db mice.And miR-145 overexpression markedly reduced plaque size in the aorta in ApoE−/−mice.Both OPG and KLF5 were targets of miR-145.miR-145 repressed cell proliferation and induced apoptosis partially by targeting OPG and KLF5.miR-145 also suppressed NF-κB activation by targeting OPG and KLF5.Our findings provide an association of the environment with the progress of metabolic disorders.Increasing miR-145 may be a new potential therapeutic strategy in preventing and treating metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis.Min He Nan Wu Man Cheong Leong Weiwei Zhang Zi Ye Rumei Li Jinyang Huang Zhaoyun Zhang Lianxi Li Xiao Yao Wenbai Zhou Naijia Liu Zhihong Yang Xuehong Dong Yintao Li Lili Chen Qin Li Xuanchun Wang Jie Wen Xiaolong Zhao Bin Lu Yehong Yang Qinghua Wang Renming Hu 2020Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2020,12,2:7

4Enhanced Learning Resource Recommendation Based on Online Learning Style Model显示文摘Smart learning systems provide relevant learning resources as a personalized bespoke package for learners based on their pedagogical needs and individual preferences.This paper introduces a learning style model to represent features of online learners.It also presents an enhanced recommendation method named Adaptive Recommendation based on Online Learning Style(AROLS),which implements learning resource adaptation by mining learners’behavioral data.First,AROLS creates learner clusters according to their online learning styles.Second,it applies Collaborative Filtering(CF)and association rule mining to extract the preferences and behavioral patterns of each cluster.Finally,it generates a personalized recommendation set of variable size.A real-world dataset is employed for some experiments.Results show that our online learning style model is conducive to the learners’data mining,and AROLS evidently outperforms the traditional CF method.Hui Chen Chuantao Yin Rumei Li Wenge Rong Zhang Xiong Bertrand David 2020Tsinghua Science and Technology2020,25,3:3

16Impact of Economic Development Levels and Disaster Types on the Short-Term Macroeconomic Consequences of Natural Hazard-Induced Disasters in China显示文摘The relationship between natural hazard-induced disasters and macroeconomic growth has been examined widely on global and national scales, but little research has been focused on the subnational level, especially in China.We examined the impacts of natural hazard-induced disasters on the regional growth in China based on subnational panel data for the period from 1990 to 2016. First, we used the number of people affected and the direct economic losses as the measures of the scale of disasters. Then, we used the direct damages of meteorological disasters and earthquakes as disaster measures separately to examine the impacts of different disaster types. Finally, we performed intraregional effects regressions to observe the spatial heterogeneity within the regions. The results show that the adverse short-term effects of disasters is most pronounced in the central region, while the direct damage of disasters is a positive stimulus of growth in the whole of China.However, this stimulus is observed in a lagged way and is reflected differently—meteorological disasters in central and eastern China and earthquakes in western China are related to regional growth. 18The synthetic thyroid hormone, levothyroxine, protects cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus of naturally aged mice显示文摘The thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine and thyroxine, play important roles in cognitive function during the mammalian lifespan. However, thyroid hormones have not yet been used as a therapeutic agent for normal age-related cognitive deficits. In this study, CD-1 mice(aged 24 months) were intraperitoneally injected with levothyroxine(L-T4; 1.6 μg/kg per day) for 3 consecutive months. Our findings revealed a significant improvement in hippocampal cytoskeletal rearrangement of actin and an increase in serum hormone levels of L-T4-treated aged mice. Furthermore, the survival rate of these mice was dramatically increased from 60% to 93.3%. The Morris water maze task indicated that L-T4 restored impaired spatial memory in aged mice. Furthermore, level of choline acetyltransferase, acetylcholine, and superoxide dismutase were increased in these mice, thus suggesting that a possible mechanism by which L-T4 reversed cognitive impairment was caused by increased activity of these markers. 20Intracavity biosensor based on the Nd:YAG waveguide laser: tumor cells and dextrose solutions显示文摘This work demonstrates the Nd:YAG waveguide laser as an efficient platform for the bio-sensing of dextrose solutions and tumor cells. The waveguide was fabricated in an Nd:YAG crystal with the cooperation of ultrafast laser writing and ion irradiation. The laser oscillation in the Nd:YAG waveguide is ultrasensitive to the external environment of the waveguide. Even a weak disturbance leads to a large variation of the output power of the laser.According to this feature, an Nd:YAG waveguide coated with graphene and WSe_2 layers is used as substrate for the microfluidic channel. When the microflow crosses the Nd:YAG waveguide, the laser oscillation in the waveguide is disturbed and induces fluctuation of the output laser.
