1Rice-duck co-culture benefits grain 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline accumulation and quality and yield enhancement of fragrant rice显示文摘Rice-duck co-culture is an integrated farming technology that benefits rice production, grain quality, and ecological sustainability in paddy fields. However, little is known about the effects of rice-duck co-culture on enzyme activity involved in the biosynthesis of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP), the volatile that gives fragrant rice its' distinctive and sought-after aroma. The present study aimed to examine the influence of rice-duck co-culture on the photosynthesis, yield, grain quality, rice aroma, and the enzymes involved in 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline biosynthesis in the cultivar Meixiangzhan 2 during the early and late rice growing seasons of 2016 in Guangzhou, China. We compared the rice grown in paddy fields with and without ducks. We found that rice-duck co-culture not only improved the yield and quality of fragrant rice grain, but also promoted the precursors of 2-AP biosynthesis formation and 2-AP accumulation in the grain. Grain 2-AP content in rice-duck co-culture was noticeably increased with 9.60% and 20.81% in early and late seasons, respectively. Proline and pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid (P5C) (precursors of 2-AP biosynthesis) and the activity of enzymes such as proline dehydrogenase (ProDH), ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) and Δ1 pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid synthetase (P5CS) were all improved by 10.15%–12.99%, 32.91%–47.75%, 17.81%–26.71%, 6.25%–21.78%, and 10.58%–38.87% under rice-duck co-culture in both seasons, respectively. 2DEM investigation of angle of repose for super-ellipsoidal particles显示文摘We explore the effect of particle shape on the angle of repose (AoR) in granular packing using a three-dimensional discrete element method.Non-spherical particles were modeled using super-ellipsoids characterized by aspect ratio and blockiness.The relationship between AoR and particle shape was examined,followed by a series of analyses on the origin of AoR from a microscopic perspective.Results show that,with blockiness deviating from unity,AoR has an approximate 'M' shape that exhibits a strong to weak trend with aspect ratio,matching results of previous reports.Another finding suggests a parabolic relationship between normalized AoR and normalized coordination number,AoR increases with anisotropy related more with the anisotropy of particle orientation than with the anisotropy of contact normal.Particle shape is more likely to affect AoR by affecting the tangential force than the normal contact force.An analysis based on traction indicates that dips in stress associated with the tangential force (compared with the normal force) and non-spherical particles (compared with spheres) are more significant.For various particle shapes,AoR is positively correlated with friction mobilization but is negatively correlated with friction mobilization for various coefficient of friction.Hao Chen Shiwei Zhao Xiaowen Zhou 2020Particuology2020,18,3:6
3The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. 4Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation attenuates axonal injury in stroke rats显示文摘Previous studies have shown that transplantation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells promotes neural functional recovery after stroke, but the neurorestorative mechanisms remain largely unknown. We hypothesized that functional recovery of myelinated axons may be one of underlying mechanisms. In this study, an ischemia/reperfusion rat model was established using the middle cerebral artery occlusion method. Rats were used to test the hypothesis that intravenous transplantation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells through the femoral vein could exert neuroprotective effects against cerebral ischemia via a mechanism associated with the ability to attenuate axonal injury. The results of behavioral tests, infarction volume analysis and immunohistochemistry showed that cerebral ischemia caused severe damage to the myelin sheath and axons. After rats were intravenously transplanted with human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, the levels of axon and myelin sheath-related proteins, including microtubule-associated protein 2, myelin basic protein, and growth-associated protein 43, were elevated, infarct volume was decreased and neural function was improved in cerebral ischemic rats. These findings suggest that intravenously transplanted human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells promote neural function. 5A screening analysis of the GJB2 c.176 del 16 mutation responsible for hereditary deafness in a Chinese family显示文摘Objective:To determine whether a new-born child from a family carrying a deafness gene needs cochlear implantation to avoid dysphonia by screening and sequencing a deafness-related gene.Results:Both screening and sequencing results confirmed that the new born child had a normal GJB2 gene despite the fact that she has a brother suffering from hearing loss triggered by an allelic GJB2 c.176 del 16 mutation.We cloned the GJB2 genes derived from their respective blood genomic DNA into GFP fused plasmids and transfected those plasmids into the 293 T cell line to test for gene function.While the mutated GJB2gene(GJB2 c.176 del 16) of her deaf brother was found to be unable to form the gap junction structure between two adjacent cells,the baby girl's GJB2 gene ran into no such problems.Conclusion:The screening and sequencing as well as the GJB2 gene function tests invariably showed results consistent with the ABR tested hearing phenotype,which means that the child,with a normal wild type GJB2 gene,does not need early intervention to prevent her from developing hearing loss and dysphonia at a later stage in life.Hao Jiang Xi Shi Shiwei Qiu Yanfen Dong Yuehua Qiao Dongzhi Wei 2016Journal of Otology2016,11,3:2
6Fabrication and optical properties of a highly transparent Nd:YAG ceramic显示文摘A neodymium doped yttrium aluminum garnet(Nd:YAG) transparent ceramic was fabricated by a solid state reaction method using commercial α-Al2O3,Y2O3,and Nd2O3 powders as starting materials and tetraethyl orthosilicate(TEOS) as sintering aid.The morphology and microstructure of the nanopowders and the Nd:YAG transparent ceramic were investigated.The fully dense Nd:YAG ceramic with an average grain size of ~20 μm was obtained by vacuum sintering at 1720°C for 12 h.Few pores and grain-boundary phases were observed.The in-line transmittance of the ceramic was 81.5% at 1064 nm.YANG Hao QIN Xianpeng WANG Shiwei ZHANG Qitu 2010Rare Metals2010,29,5:2
7Upregulation of GLT25D1 in Hepatic Stellate Cells Promotes Liver Fibrosis via the TGF-β1/SMAD3 Pathway In Vivo and In vitro显示文摘Background and Aims:Collagenβ(1-O)galactosyltransferase 25 domain 1(GLT25D1)is associated with collagen production and glycosylation,and its knockout in mice results in embryonic death.However,its role in liver fibrosis remains elusive,particularly in hepatic stellate cells(HSCs),the primary collagen-producing cells associated with liver fibrogenesis.Herein,we aimed to elucidate the role of GLT25D1 in HSCs.Methods:Bile duct ligation(BDL)-induced mouse liver fibrosis models,primary mouse HSCs(mHSCs),and transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)-stimulated LX-2 human hepatic stellate cells were used in in vivo and in vitro studies.Stable LX-2 cell lines with either GLT25D1 overexpression or knockdown were established using lentiviral transfection.RNA-seq was performed to investigate the genomic differences.HPLCMS/MS were used to identify glycosylation sites.Scanning electronic microscopy(SEM)and second-harmonic generation/two-photon excited fluorescence(SHG/TPEF)were used to image collagen fibril morphology.Results:GLT25D1 expression was upregulated in nonparenchymal cells in human cirrhotic liver tissues.Meanwhile,its knockdown attenuated collagen deposition in BDL-induced mouse liver fibrosis and inhibited mHSC activation.GLT25D1 was overexpressed in activated versus quiescence LX-2 cells and regulated in vitro LX-2 cell activation,including proliferation,contraction,and migration.GLT25D1 also significantly increased liver fibrogenic gene and protein expression.GLT25D1 upregulation promoted HSC activation and enhanced collagen expression through the TGF-β1/SMAD signaling pathway.Mass spectrometry showed that GLT25D1 regulated the glycosylation of collagen in HSCs,affecting the diameter of collagen fibers.Conclusions:Collectively,the upregulation of GLT25D1 in HSCs promoted the progression of liver fibrosis by affecting HSCs activation and collagen stability.Shiwei Wang Lingling He Fan Xiao Meixin Gao Herui Wei Junru Yang Yang Shu Fuyang Zhang Xiaohui Ye Ping Li Xiaohua Hao Xingang Zhou Hongshan Wei 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,1:1

9Hierarchical NiMoP_(2)-Ni_(2)P with amorphous interface as superior bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting显示文摘Producing highly efficient bifunctional catalyst for the generation of hydrogen and oxygen through overall water splitting is an emerging direction in electrocatalysis.Herein,a dandelion-like hierarchical NiMoP_(2)-Ni_(2)P(nanowire/nanoparticle)heterostructure was synthesized for efficient electrochemical water splitting.The NiMoP_(2)-Ni_(2)P heterostructures grown on carbon cloth as a freestanding integrated electrode exhibited excellent oxygen evolution reaction(OER)activity and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activities with low overpotentials(258 mV and 53 mV to reach 10 mA cm~(-2)for the OER and HER,respectively),and small Tafel slope(45 mV dec^(-1)and 58 mV dec^(-1)for the OER and HER,respectively).Moreover,the NiMoP_(2)-Ni_(2)P heterostructure can act as both anode and cathode catalysts for overall water splitting with low overall potential of 1.48 V at 10 mA cm~(-2).Density functional theory(DFT)combined with structural probes suggests that the amorphous heterogeneous interfaces play an essential role in enhanced catalytic performance.Gaoqi Tian Songrui Wei Zhangtao Guo Shiwei Wu Zhongli Chen Fuming Xu Yang Cao Zheng Liu Jieqiong Wang Lei Ding Jinchun Tu Hao Zeng 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,18:1
10Metagenomic insights into responses of microbial population and key functional genes to fulvic acid during partial nitritation显示文摘The long-term impact of fulvic acid(FA)on partial nitritation(PN)systemwas initially examined in this study.The obtained results revealed that the FA lower than 50 mg/L had negligible effect on the nitrite accumulation rate(NAR nearly 100%)and ammonium removal rate(ARR 56.85%),while FA over 50 mg/L decreased ARR from 56.85%to 0.7%.Sludge characteristics analysis found that appropriate FA(<50 mg/L)exposure promoted the settling performance and granulation of PN sludge by removing Bacteroidetes and accumulating Chloroflexi.The analysis of metagenomics suggested that the presence of limited FA(0-50 mg/L)stimulated the generation of NADH,which favors the denitrification and nitrite reduction.The negative impact of FA on the PN system could be divided into two stages.Initially,limited FA(50-120 mg/L)was decomposed by Anaerolineae to stimulate the growth and propagation of heterotrophic bacteria(Thauera).Increasing heterotrophs competed with AOB(Nitrosomonas)for dissolved oxygen,causing AOB to be eliminated and ARR to declined.Subsequently,when FA dosage was over 120 mg/L,Anaerolineae were inhibited and heterotrophic bacteria reduced,resulting in the abundance of AOB recovered.Nevertheless,the ammonium transformation pathway was suppressed because genes amoABC and hao were obviously reduced,leading to the deterioration of reactor performance.Overall,these results provide theoretical guidance for the practical application of PN for the treatment of FA-containing sewage.Li Zhang Shuang Lan Quanhao Dou Shiwei Hao Yueping Wang Xiaoxuan Wang Ruoyan Zhang Yongzhen Peng Jiachun Yang 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,2:1

15Influence of spiral anchor composite foundation on seismic vulnerability of raw soil structure显示文摘A typical single-layer raw soil structure in villages and towns in China is taken as the research object.In the probabilistic seismic demand analysis,the seismic demand model is obtained by the incremental dynamic time history analysis method.The seismic vulnerability analysis is carried out for the raw soil structure of nonfoundation,strip foundation,and spiral anchor composite foundation,respectively.The spiral anchor composite foundation can reduce the seismic response and failure state of raw soil structure,and the performance level of the structure is significantly improved.Structural requirements sample data with the same ground motion intensity are analyzed by linear regression statistics.Compared with the probabilistic seismic demand model under various working conditions,the seismic demand increases gradually with the increase of intensity.The seismic vulnerability curve is summarized for comparative analysis.With the gradual deepening of the limit state,the reduction effect of spiral anchor composite foundation on the exceedance probability becomes more and more obvious,which can reduce the probability of structural failure to a certain extent.Shiwei Hou Guangliang Gao Hao Zhang Zhanwen Lai Junyan Han 2022Earthquake Research Advances2022,2,4:0
16Composite structure Al_(2)O_(3)/Al_(2)O_(3)-YAG:Ce/YAG ceramics with high color spatial uniformity for white laser lighting显示文摘Composite ceramic phosphor(CCP)is a candidate light-conversion material to obtain the high-quality laser lighting source.Phosphors based on the transmissive configuration model could not simultaneously meet the requirements of angular color uniformity and high thermal stability.In this study,a novel composite structure ceramic was designed,including Al_(2)O_(3)-YAG:Ce/YAG layered ceramic with a size of 1 mm×1 mm for lighting,and Al_(2)O_(3) ceramic(φ=16.0 mm)was used as the wrapping material due to its outstanding thermal stability.The prepared ceramics exhibited excellent thermal performance and no yellow ring phenomenon.Through this design,we achieved the match of the intensity distribution of the blue and yellow lights,resulting in a high angular color uniformity of 0.9 with a view angle of±80°.All ceramics showed no luminous saturation phenomenon,even the laser power density was increased up to 47.51 W/mm^(2).A high-brightness white-light source with a luminous flux of 618 lm,a luminous efficiency of 126 lm/W,a CCT of 6615 K,and a CRI of 69.9 was obtained in the transmissive configuration.In particular,the surface temperature of the ceramic was as low as 74.1℃ under a high laser radiation(47.51 W/mm^(2)).These results indicate that Al_(2)O_(3)/Al_(2)O_(3)-YAG:Ce/YAG composite structure ceramic is a promising luminescent material in the high-power laser lighting applications.Pengfei Sang Le Zhang Jian Kang Mingzhou Li Shiwei Chen Peng Yang Bingheng Sun Yang Li Wieslaw Strek Hao Chen 2024Journal of Advanced Ceramics2024,13,2:0
17Correlated evolution of dual-phase microstructures,mutual solubilities and oxygen vacancies in transparent La2-xLuxZr2O7 ceramics显示文摘The A2B2O7 series of ternary oxides are derivatives of fluorite structure over a wide range of rA/rB.Competing by two rare-earths the A-site,La2-xLuxZr2O7 ceramics were found transparent only in pore-free microstructures with similar grain sizes of pyrochlore(PY)and defective fluorite(DF)phases.Mutual solubilities of Lu and La in both phases were found by imaging and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis in scanning electron microscope.The dual-phase microstructures were developed with liquid-phase resulted from the exothermal reactions,creating a miscibility gap between two structures to moderate their competing grain growth.Change in grain growth behaviors in liquid-phase is described by a nucleation line in La2Zr2O7-Lu2Zr2O7 phase diagram.Variations of solution levels in DF grains and co-existing of dual-phase grain clusters in common orientation were revealed in transparent ceramics by electron backscattered diffraction,resulted by epitaxial relation of two phases promoted by the liquid-phase.Oxygen vacancies and various hole states common in both phases were revealed by characteristic cathodoluminescence peaks.The collective effects of pores,phase and grain boundaries,oxygen vacancies on scattering or absorption of visible light enables to establish a hierarchical microstructure-transparency relationship in such complex oxide ceramics,which could be tailored or further optimized by controllable sintering.Hao Chen Hui Gu Juanjuan Xing Zhengjuan Wang Guohong Zhou Shiwei Wang 2021Journal of Materiomics2021,7,1:0
18Role of BraRGL1 in regulation of Brassica rapa bolting and flowering显示文摘Gibberellin(GA)plays a major role in controlling Brassica rapa stalk development.As an essential negative regulator of GA signal transduction,DELLA proteins may exert significant effects on stalk development.However,the regulatory mechanisms underlying this regulation remain unclear.In this study,we report highly efficient and inheritable mutagenesis using the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system in BraPDS(phytoene desaturase)and BraRGL1(key DELLA protein)genes.We observed a loss-of-function mutation in BraRGL1 due to two amino acids in GRAS domain.The flower bud differentiation and bolting time of BraRGL1 mutants were significantly advanced.The expression of GA-regulatory protein(BraGASA6),flowering related genes(BraSOC1,BraLFY),expansion protein(BraEXPA11)and xyloglucan endotransferase(BraXTH3)genes was also significantly upregulated in these mutants.BraRGL1-overexpressing plants displayed the contrasting phenotypes.BraRGL1 mutants were more sensitive to GA signaling.BraRGL1 interacted with BraSOC1,and the interaction intensity decreased after GA3 treatment.In addition,BraRGL1 inhibited the transcription-activation ability of BraSOC1 for BraXTH3 and BraLFY genes,but the presence of GA3 enhanced the activation ability of BraSOC1,suggesting that the BraRGL1-BraSOC1 module regulates bolting and flowering of B.rapa through GA signal transduction.Thus,we hypothesized that BraRGL1 is degraded,and BraSOC1 is released in the presence of GA3,which promotes the expression of BraXTH3 and BraLFY,thereby inducing stalk development in B.rapa.Further,the BraRGL1-M mutant promoted the flower bud differentiation without affecting the stalk quality.Thus,BraRGL1 can serve as a valuable target for the molecular breeding of early maturing varieties.Yudan Wang Shiwei Song Yanwei Hao Changming Chen Xi Ou Bin He Jiewen Zhang Zhehao Jiang Chengming Li Shuaiwei Zhang Wei Su Riyuan Chen 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,8:0

20Alterations in gut microbiota and physiological factors associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm显示文摘Abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)is a progressive focal dilatation and weakening of the abdominal aorta,causing 1.3%of all deaths among men aged 65–85 years worldwide.The formation of AAA is a complex process with multiple risk factors.Therefore,this study aimed to determine the relationship of disease severity and physiological factors,and gut microbiota structures in AAA patients.Physiological indicators and fecal 16S rRNA gene sequences from healthy controls and patients with AAA were collected.The correlations between the diameter of the AAA and clinical parameters,and gut microbiota composition were then analyzed separately using multivariable analysis.The diameter of AAA was extremely positively correlated with smoking index,alkaline phosphatase,blood glucose,and blood triglycerides and negatively correlated with prealbumin and Cystatin C.As the diameter of AAA increased,the α-diversity,including Chao 1,Shannon,and Simpson indices,of the gut microbiota decreased and presented a negative linear relationship.Patients with AAA with more severe disease had significantly increased relative abundance of Enterobacteriaceae and decreased relative abundance of Veillonellaceae.A strong correlation was observed between the diameter and physiological data,as well as between diameter and gut microbiota composition.This study could improve the understanding of AAA,and gut microbiota may be a potential target to prevent and treat this deadly disease.Kun Zhang Shiwei Yang Yingchun Huang Xian Qin Kai Qu Yidan Chen Lizhao Chen Juhui Qiu Yingxue Hao Guixue Wang 2022Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2022,,2:0
