| 1 | Research on the slope spectrum of the Loess Plateau显示文摘A new concept dealing with digital analysis of loess terrain,slope spectrum,is presented and discussed in this paper,by introducing its characteristic,represen-tation and extracting method from DEMs. Using 48 geomorphological units in dif-ferent parts of the loess as test areas and 5 m-resolution DEMs as original test data,the quantitative depiction and spatial distribution of slope spectrum in China's Loess Plateau have been studied on the basis of a series of carefully-designed experiments. In addition,initial experiment indicates a strong relationship between the slope spectrum and the loess landform types,displaying a potential importance of the slope spectrum in geomorphological studies. Based on the slope spectrums derived from the 25 m-resolution DEM data in whole loess terrain in northern part of Shaanxi,13 slope spectrum indices were extracted and integrated into a compre-hensive layer with image integration method. Based on that,a series of unsuper-vised classifications was applied in order to make a landform classification in northern Shaanxi Loess Plateau. Experimental results show that the slope spec-trum analysis is an effective method in revealing the macro landform features. A continuous change of slope spectrum from south to north in northern Shaanxi Loess Plateau shows an obvious spatial distribution of different loess landforms. | 3 | Extraction and Analysis of Gully Head of Loess Plateau in China Based on Digital Elevation Model显示文摘In China′s Loess Plateau area, gully head is the most active zone of a drainage system in gully areas. The differentiation of loess gully head follows geospatial patterns and reflects the process of the loess landform development and evolution of its drainage system to some extent. In this study, the geomorphic meaning, basic characteristics, morphological structure and the basic types of loess gully heads were systematically analysed. Then, the loess gully head′s conceptual model was established, and an extraction method based on Digital Elevation Model(DEM) for loess gully head features and elements was proposed. Through analysing the achieved statistics of loess gully head features, loess gully heads have apparently similar and different characteristics depending on the different loess landforms where they are found. The loess head characteristics reflect their growth period and evolution tendency to a certain degree, and they indirectly represent evolutionary mechanisms. In addition, the loess gully developmental stages and the evolutionary processes can be deduced by using loess gully head characteristics. | 4 | Geomorphological inheritance for loess landform evolution in a severe soil erosion region of Loess Plateau of China based on digital elevation models显示文摘The influence of pre-quaternary underlying terrain on the formation of loess landforms, i.e., the geomorphological inheritance issue, is a focus in studies of loess landforms. On the basis of multi-source information, we used GIS spatial analysis methods to construct a simulated digital elevation model of a pre-quaternary paleotopographic surface in a severe soil erosion area of the Loess Plateau. To reveal the spatial relationship between underlying paleotopography and modern terrain, an XY scatter diagram, hypsometric curve, gradient and concavity of terrain profiles are used in the experiments. The experiments show that the altitude, gradient and concavity results have significant linear positive correlation between both terrains, which shows a relatively strong landform inheritance relationship, particularly in the intact and complete loess deposit areas. Despite the current surface appearing somewhat changed from the original shape of the underlying terrain under different erosion forces, we reveal that the modern terrain generally smoothes the topographic relief of underlying terrain in the loess deposition process. | 7 | Paleotopographic controls on modern gully evolution in the loess landforms of China显示文摘The inhomogeneous and non-flat paleotopography in a depositional landform area profoundly controls the process of modern gully evolution and shapes the structure of a gully network.However,this controlling effect of paleotopography on modern gully evolution is mostly ignored because of the difficulties in paleotopography reconstruction.In this study,loess area in China is selected as case area for its typical depositional landform area and inhomogeneous and non-flat paleotopography during the Quaternary.The paleotopography underlying loess is considered while evaluating its controlling effects on the gully evolutionary process.On the basis of the geophysical prospecting,detailed geological information,and high-resolution digital elevation model,we reconstruct the pre-Quaternary paleotopographic surface in the case area.Comparative analysis is conducted to reveal the modern gully evolution in relation to the paleotopography.Results show that the concave area of the paleotopography acts as the basement of the high-order modern gully evolution in the hilly-gully area,although this concave area can be covered and buried by the loess depositional process during the Quaternary.A significant controlling effect of paleotopography on high-order modern gully evolution can be observed in a depositional landform with a hilly-gully underlying topography,whereas a relatively weak controlling effect exists in a flat underlying topographical area because of the strong horizontal shift effect of gully formation process.Several low-order modern gullies also exist and limit the controlling effect of paleotopography.These results reveal a controlled high-order modern gully evolutionary process and a rather dynamic low-order modern gully evolutionary process in the hilly-gully area.These results also help us understand the variations in different modern gully evolution in relation to paleotopography and the different management schemes for soil conservation and ecological restoration during the gully evolutionary process. | XIONG LiYang TANG GuoAn ZHU A-Xing YUAN BaoYin LU BinYing DANG TianMin | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,3: | 11 |
| 8 | An Object-based Approach for Two-level Gully Feature Mapping Using High-resolution DEM and Imagery: A Case Study on Hilly Loess Plateau Region, China显示文摘Gully feature mapping is an indispensable prerequisite for the motioning and control of gully erosion which is a widespread natural hazard. The increasing availability of high-resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and remote sensing imagery, combined with developed object-based methods enables automatic gully feature mapping. But still few studies have specifically focused on gully feature mapping on different scales. In this study, an object-based approach to two-level gully feature mapping, including gully-affected areas and bank gullies, was developed and tested on 1-m DEM and Worldview-3 imagery of a catchment in the Chinese Loess Plateau. The methodology includes a sequence of data preparation, image segmentation, metric calculation, and random forest based classification. The results of the two-level mapping were based on a random forest model after investigating the effects of feature selection and class-imbalance problem. Results show that the segmentation strategy adopted in this paper which considers the topographic information and optimal parameter combination can improve the segmentation results. The distribution of the gully-affected area is closely related to topographic information, however, the spectral features are more dominant for bank gully mapping. The highest overall accuracy of the gully-affected area mapping was 93.06% with four topographic features. The highest overall accuracy of bank gully mapping is 78.5% when all features are adopted. | 10 | Terrain revised model for air temperature in mountainous area based on DEMs: A case study in Yaoxian county显示文摘In mountainous area, spatial interpolation is the traditional method to calculate air temperature by use of observed temperature data. Due to lack of sufficient observation data in mountainous areas many precise interpolation methods could give only coarse result which could not meet the demand of precision agriculture and local climate exploration. Based on DEMs of 25 m resolution, a reversed model is constructed, with which temperature is simulated to the corresponding slope unit from the solar radiation. Taking Yaoxian county as a test area, and mean monthly temperature data as basic information sources, which are collected from 15 weather stations around Yaoxian county in Shaanxi province from the year of 1970 to 2000, a simulation for the solar radiation cell by cell is completed. By simulating solar radiation at each slope and flat cell unit, the terrain revised temperature model could be realized. A comparison between the simulated temperature and the radiation temperature from TM6 thermal infrared image shows that the terrain improved model gets a finer temperature distribution at local level. | 12 | An applied research on remote sensing classification in the Loess Plateau显示文摘Due to complex terrain of the Loess Plateau, the classification accuracy is unsatisfactory when a single supervised classification is used in the remote sensing investigation of the sloping field. Taking the loess hill and gully area of northern Shaanxi Province as a test area, a research was conducted to extract sloping field and other land use categories by applying an integrated classification. Based on an integration of supervised classification and unsupervised classification, sampling method is remarkably improved. The results show that the classification accuracy is satisfactory by the method and is of critical significance in obtaining up-to-date information of the sloping field, which should be helpful in the state key project of converting fiumland to forest and grassland on slope land in this area. | 13 | Terrain relief periods of loess landforms based on terrain profiles of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province,China显示文摘The Loess Plateau is densely covered by numerous types of gullies which represent different soil erosion intensities.Therefore,research on topographic variation features of the loess gullies is of great significance to environmental protection and ecological management.Using a5 m digital elevation model and data from a national geographic database,this paper studies different topographical areas of the Loess Plateau,including Shenmu,Suide,Yanchuan,Ganquan,Yijun,and Chunhua,to derive representative gully terrain profile data of the sampled areas.First,the profile data are standardized in MATLAB and then decomposed using the ensemble empirical mode decomposition method.Then,a significance test is performed on the results;the test confidence is 95% to 99%.The most reliable decomposition component is then used to calculate the relief period and size of the gullies.The results showed that relief periods of the Chunhua,Shenmu,Yijun,Yuanchuan,Ganquan,and Suide gullies are 1110.14 m,1096.85 m,1002.49 m,523.48 m,498.12 m,and 270.83 m,respectively.In terms of gully size,the loess landforms are sorted as loess fragmented tableland,aeolian and dune,loess tableland,loess ridge,loess hill and loess ridge,and loess hill,in descending order.Taken together,the gully terrain features of the sample areas and the results of the study are approximately consistent with the actual terrain profiles.Thus,we conclude that ensemble empirical mode decomposition is a reliable method for the study of the relief and topography of loess gullies. | Jianjun CAO Guoan TANG Xuan FANG Jilong LI Yongjuan LIU Yiting ZHANG Ying ZHU Fayuan LI | 2019 | Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,2: | 4 |
| 14 | Landform Planation Index Extracted from DEMs: A Case Study in Ordos Platform of China显示文摘Planation surface, a surface that is almost flat, is a kind of low-relief landforms. Planation surface is the consequence of the denudation and planation processes under a tectonic stable condition. The quantitative expression of the characteristics of planation surface plays a key role in reconstructing and describing the evolutionary process of landforms. In this study, Landform Planation Index(LPI), a new terrain derivative, was proposed to quantify the characteristics of planation surface. The LPIs were calculated based on the summit surfaces formed according to the clustering results of peaks. Ten typical areas in the Ordos Platform located in the central part of the Loess Plateau of China are chosen as the test areas for investigating their planation characteristics with the LPI. The experimental results indicate that the LPI can be effectively used to quantify the characteristics of planation surfaces. In addition, the LPI can be further used to depict the patterns of spatial differentiation in the Ordos Platform. Although the present Ordos Platform area is full of the high-density gullies, its planation characteristics is found to be well preserved. Furthermore, the characteristics of the planation surfaces can also reflect the original morphology of the Ordos Platform before the loess dusts deposition process evolved in this area. The statistical results of the LPI show that there is a gradually increasing tendency along with the increasing of slope gradient of summit surface. It indicates that the characteristics of planation surfaces vary among test areas with different landforms. These findings help to deepen the understanding of planation characteristics of the loess landform and its underlying paleotopography. | 18 | Bank gully extraction from DEMs utilizing the geomorphologic features of a loess hilly area in China显示文摘As one of most active gully types in the Chinese Loess Plateau,bank gullies generally indicate soil loss and land degradation.This study addressed the lack of detailed,large scale monitoring of bank gullies and proposed a semi-automatic method for extracting bank gullies,given typical topographic features based on 5 m resolution DEMs.First,channel networks,including bank gullies,are extracted through an iterative channel bum-in algorithm.Second,gully heads are correctly positioned based on the spatial relationship between gully heads and their corresponding gully shoulder lines.Third,bank gullies are distinguished from other gullies using the newly proposed topographic measurement of 'relative gully depth (RGD).'The experimental results from the loess hilly area of the Linjiajian watershed in the Chinese Loess Plateau show that the producer accuracy reaches 87.5%. | 19 | Comparison of Visual Function after Multifocal and Accommodative IOL Implantation显示文摘Purpose:.To compare early visual function between patients undergoing phacoemulsification combined with multifocal and accommodative intraocular lens implantation.Methods: A total of 112 patients with age-related cataract undergoing phacoemulsification in our hospital were recruited for this study and randomly assigned into multifocal(56 eyes;ZAM00 group) and accommodative(56 eyes; FLEX group)intraocular lens groups. Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were statistically compared between the two groups.Results:.No significant difference was found in uncorrected distant visual acuity between the ZMA00 and FLEX groups at1 week, or 1, 3, and 6 months after operation(all P>0.05).At postoperative 6 months, no statistical significance was noted in distant and intermediate best-corrected visual acuity or in contrast sensitivity between the two groups(all P>0.05). Patients in the ZMA00 group were superior to their counterparts in the FLEX group regarding near best corrected visual acuity, reading speed, and spectacle independence(all P<0.05).Conclusion: ZMA00 and FLEX IOL implantation can provide excellent distant and intermediate visual acuity for patients with age-related cataract.
