| 1 | Association between high cystatin C levels and carotid atherosclerosis显示文摘AIM To investigate the association between carotid atherosclerosis and cystatin C(CysC) and to determine the optimal CysC cut-off value.METHODS One hundred twenty-eight subjects were included in this study. Atherosclerosis was defined as a maximum carotid plaque thickness(MCPT) of greater than 2 mm. A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to determine the diagnostic value of serum CysC for atherosclerosis. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the CysC cut-off value. We screenedfor diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking status, alcohol consumption, and exercise behavior. The association between atherosclerosis and CysC levels was assessed using multivariate analysis.RESULTS The subjects were then divided into two groups according to the CysC cut-off value(0.73 mg/L). The median age of the high CysC group was 72 years(85% males), whereas that of the low CysC group was 61 years(63% males). The CysC levels were significantly correlated with Cr and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) values. Bodymass index, visceral fat area, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and MCPT were significantly higher in the high CysC group than in the low CysC group. Furthermore, the eG FR was significantly lower in the high CysC group. Regarding lifestyle habits, only the exercise level was lower in the high CysC group than in the low CysC group. Multivariate analysis, adjusted for age and sex, revealed that high CysC levels were significantly associated with an MCPT of ≥ 2 mm(odds ratio: 2.92; 95%CI: 1.13-7.99).CONCLUSION Higher CysC levels were associated with an MCPT of ≥ 2 mm. | 4 | Design of Bridge Expansion Joints with Perforated Dowels Under Impact Loading显示文摘The expansion joints are expected to have movement capacity, bearing capacity for static and dynamic loading, water-tightness, low noise emission and traffic safety. In particular, the failure due to impact loading is the main reason for the observed damages. The problem of dynamic behavior of the expansion joints is so complex that we shall focus our attention on the impact factor for vehicle load that is governed by traffic impact. In order to overcome this difficulty, the cantilever-toothed aluminum joint (finger joint) is one of the promising joints under impact loading. In this study, from the viewpoint of design methodology, numerical studies for impact behavior were conducted for aluminum alloy expansion joints with perforated dowels. | 6 | Effect of acupuncture at acupoint of Shenshu (BL 23) on the bones of ovariectomized rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture at acupoint of Shenshu(BL 23) in ovariectomized rats and sham-operated rats.METHODS: Female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the following four groups(n = 12 each):sham operation only(Sham), sham operation with acupuncture(Sham + ACP), ovariectomy only(OVX), and ovariectomy with acupuncture(OVX +ACP). Operations were performed at the 9 th week of age. Acupuncture of Shenshu(BL 23) was started at the 11 th week of age and conducted 3 times per week until the 26 th week of age.RESULTS: Among ovariectomized rats, the acupuncture-treated rats had significantly lower bodyweights and cross-linked N-telopeptide of type 1 collagen levels in the urine after 3 weeks of acupuncture treatment, higher bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebra after 7 weeks, and smaller trabecular separation of the sixth lumbar vertebra,measured by micro-computed tomography, after17 weeks than control rats. These effects were not observed in sham-operated rats. Blood concentrations of estradiol were significantly higher in the OVX + ACP group than in the untreated group. | 8 | Self-care practices and health-seeking behavior among older persons in a developing country:Theories-based research显示文摘Purpose:The aim of this study was to examine the self-care practices and health-seeking behaviours of older adults in urban Indonesia.Methods:The cross-sectional study was performed from January to March 2014 in the Tammua sub-district of Indonesia.At the time of the study,273 older adults resided in Tammua,and half of them(51.2%)participated in this study.Data collection was carried out including self-care practices,health literacy,self-efficacy and basic conditioning factors.Results:It was found that most respondents(124;88.6%)always ate various protein sources daily.However,many participants never limited consumption of sugar(55;39.3%)or salt(40;28.6%),and more than half of respondents(96;68.6%)did not regularly visit MHCs.Health status(p<0.05),health maintenance(p<0.01)and salt limitation(p<0.05)were all significantly associated with salt limitation.It was found that respondents with higher selfefficacy,those who did not want to get information,and those of younger ages are less likely to visit MHCs regularly.Conclusion:An understanding of self-care practices and self-efficacy is needed to improve health care in developing countries.High self-efficacy should be promoted along with adequate health literacy.Older persons should learn the importance of regular health examinations to promote health,prevent diseases,and slow the progress of chronic diseases.The number of respondents who never limit their sugar and salt intake was especially surprising.An intervention program should be developed to limit salt and sugar intake of Indonesian elderly and to motivate older persons to use primary health services. | Andi Masyitha Irwan Mayumi Kato Kazuyo Kitaoka Teruhiko Kido Yoshimi Taniguchi Miho Shogenji | 2016 | International Journal of Nursing Sciences2016，3，1： | 2 |
